So my hubby and I have been together for upwards of 11 years now, we have a 7 year old daughter together, and we've been living together as spouses for years now. But we've finally decided to tie the knot officially with a simple courthouse ceremony. We hoped to have it done by the end of the month, so we can keep our insurance policy.

You know what I love about Carver? He's doing it because he loves you. He's a bitch yeah, and he complains constantly, and getting approval with him is like pulling teeth but you know the reason he gives you rivalry? It's when you put yourself in danger. I mean, come on, Carver Hawke is hardly pro-Circle, he literally grew up in a family full to the brim with apostates and he watched them control themselves just fine without it. But that boy is terrified, literally terrified that you will end end being taken by the templars. He's terrified that you are being too blatant, that by helping mages and shouting at templars you are going to end up in the Gallows. And of course he is. Carver lost his twin. Carver lost Bethany. Carver watched her die. He talks big game about being in Hawkes shadow, but he doesn't want to loose them. He doesn't want to watch his mother go through losing Hawke. He fucking gives you rivalry because he cares. When you meet Fenris he immediately is like 'you got a problem with my sibling take it up with me'. He's never like 'ugh just let the templars take you Hawke the circle is fine'. He's just. He's traumatised. He wants to protect his sibling. And that sentiment is coming out wrong, but that doesn't mean its not coming from a place of love.

Very much this. Carver is an onion. The boy has got layers and if you’re not careful he’ll make your eyes sting. But handled with care he will make a good addition to your meal, I mean team. Definitely meant team.

My affection for him has always been a bit of a point of contention between me and the friend that got me into DA. **waves at friend who will surely read this.*

See, she doesn’t like him. Finds him an annoying brat that gets entirely on her nerves and she much prefers Bethany. And subsequently never played to the points where I think his characterisation really starts to click. I on the other hand have always had a soft spot for the boy. Now I used to think this was because he reminded me of my own rather turbulent relationship with my sibling, but I’ve come to realise that it is actually the other way round. Carver is what I’d always hoped my sibling was like, deep, deeeeep down. Yeah he might act like an ass and get on your nerves and slapping him may at times seem like such a nice, rewarding idea. But at the end of the day Carver cares and Carver has got your back. Even if he might snark while doing so. Early signs of this are after you talk to Betram. If you choose the purple options (family of snarkers) you can point out to him he called it “your” templar problem and he instantly backtracks and goes, did I sound that bad? I’m turning into Gamlen. Then there is the part as pointed out where if Fenris gives you grief he’s all, if you want to get at my sibling you’ll have to go through me first, no matter the status of rivalry or friendship I believe. When arguing about getting your house back he initially starts kneejerk blaming you, but if given the chance will again try mend bridges. In the deep roads when dying he’ll be all you did a lot for me I really looked up to you sentiments. And at the climax he will side with you, no questions asked, no convincing needed. You’re in this together. The boy is hurt and traumatised. As are they all. He feels lost, scared, out of place. Lost his home, lost the girl he had a crush on (and if Hawke is male preferred his brother), lost his twin. And he has an inferiority complex the size of the waking sea. But above all, he’s a kid. The face models can make you forget he’s supposed to be 18 at the start of the game. So yeah he is as prickly as a cactus with a bad needle day, puts his foot in, doesn’t know how to really express what he’s feeling, but when it comes down to it. When shit hits the fan. Carver is there, come what may.
