-----------
The floor was hard when you were dropped on to it, your knees cracking at the landing. You tried to keep your back straight, to look visibly strong even if you didn’t feel it, but the impact sent a wave of discomfort ricocheting through your nerves and you wobbled.
Your bound hands reached out and kept you from dropping face first into the mat. You grit your teeth through any sounds of pain. The noises you make are just as much as victory for the enemy. Seungcheol - Captain Choi, you corrected yourself - had told you that.
The same man who was now staring down at you from the war table, expression blank, eyes dark and unreadable. It was strange to think that he was the enemy now, enjoying your pain in the way he’d warned you about. It hurt in that uncomfortable way when you knew you were the reason for a betrayal and just had to live with the guilt.
You couldn’t say you hadn’t intended to lie. You’d come here already rewriting the story of your life - your name, your history, your future. All reworked and conveyed to every person you met.
You broke their trust and, in the imperial army, trust was paramount.
Around the captain were his generals, the privates and petty officers that you had trained with, laughed with, fought with. They were a lot easier to read than their leader - eyebrows furrowed, watching you like a wild animal, lips pursed.
You could have laughed - it was like they’d never seen a woman before.
You felt more than watched Mingyu crouch at your side. His hands hovered but didn’t quite touch the bandage he’d wrapped around your chest. He murmured a curse to Jun and Vernon, the two who dragged you in. “If you ripped open her stitches, we’re going to have a problem.”
Jun averted his gaze, embarrassed, and Vernon’s jaw tightened.
“It’s fine,” you whispered and cursed yourself for how your voice trembled.
It was strange how in one moment, you were brave, strong and full of adrenaline. The you from before would never have jumped in front of an arrow, would never have been quick enough to get there anyway, but the way you were now, you think you’d do it again in a heartbeat. Without it, your Captain wouldn’t be looking down at you now and you couldn’t bear the thought.
Maybe it was better your battalion looked at you with disgust and hurt than in grief and devastation. You think you could take that.
It was Mingyu who had found out first, the battalion’s lead medic. He’d stripped you with the efficiency of a skilled doctor and then flushed to the tips of his toes at the sight of your tits. You’re pretty sure they all got a good look, before Seungkwan had swung into action, ordering privacy with threat of testicle removal.
When you’d cried - in pain from the embedded arrow head in your right side, heartbroken at the truth and terrified of the consequences - Seungkwan had held your hand against his chest. You’d called him “pretty boy” and he’d given you a wet smile.
You almost wished for that Seungkwan now, the one who could actually look at you.
In the end, it was Jeonghan that spoke to you first. “So it’s true, you really are a woman.” He didn’t say it like an insult, like you were something less than, but still you bristled.
“Was it the tits that gave it away?” You snapped. Like old times, like you were allowed that kind of familiarity.
You weren’t, not anymore. Wonwoo tensed, hand flexing around the handle of his sword. Jeonghan though, he just grinned in wryly amusement. “Are you saying that as Hyunjin or the real you?”
Hyunjin. The name you had given yourself to match your male identity, the name your parents would have given you if you were born masculine.
“Can’t it be both,” you challenged.
“What’s your birth name?” Joshua asked. He stood further in the group, looking every bit like the ideal soldier despite the fighting they’d all barely recovered from. You’d resent him for it if he wasn’t so sweet.
You hesitated and then gave your name, the one you hadn’t spoken to yourself or others in 4 months. It felt wrong to say, clumsy on your tongue.
“Pretty,” Chan said, mild and perfunctory, “it suits you.”
You winced. “Please, don’t.”
The soft words weren’t ones they had ever shared with you but now that your true gender was revealed, it was like talking to a distant suitor. It made your skin crawl and chest ache.
Seungcheol shifted in his chair and eyes snapped to him instinctively. It was a show of how well trained you all were and how respected the captain was.
“Why did you come here?” he asked quietly. He didn’t have to shout for you to know he was angry.
“I was conscripted,” you stated. The same as them all.
Seungcheol’s eyebrows knitted together. “The eldest son was conscripted.”
“And my father has no son, only me,” you pushed. “He... he barely survived the last war and I couldn’t let that happen. Not if I could help.”
“So you became a man,” Jeonghan said.
You sighed. “I became Hyunjin. Hyunjin is me.”
“But he’s not, is he?” Soonyoung interjected, shoulders tense, “Hyunjin is - was, the eldest son, ready to die for his country and you - if you’d died, you’d be someone’s daughter that would be devastated that you died in their place.”
You swallowed. You tried not to think about your mother and father, holding the secret of your disappearance to hide the shame, to stop the punishment that no doubt would come for you. It was illegal for women to fight in the imperial army and it was treason to infiltrate the military. You’d known that at the time you cut your hair short, stole your father’s horse and galloped off to meet the recruiters.
“I’d do it again,” you said, unexpectedly honest. For your father, you’d do anything to keep him safe just as he had your entire life. For your mother, you’d do anything to ensure that the love of her life was always there for her - you remembered how much it had broken her during the first war. And, selfishly, you think you’d do it again for the power you didn’t know you could hold and for them. Each and every one of those soldiers you’d met and cared for. You couldn’t imagine a world where you didn’t know them, even if they would come to regret your presence here.
It was Jihoon who said the quiet part aloud. “You should be executed for this.”
Your heart leaped fearfully in your chest before you could control it. You watched the uneasy shuffle of legs, the eyes that widened and looked away, the slow closing of fists. You watched Jihoon’s expression and how his eyes seemed so sad. You didn’t like him looking at you like this.
Minghao was the first to object. “Hyung, Captain,” he corrected himself, “you can’t-”
“It’s the law,” Jun interjected.
“The emperor would destroy us if he found out,” Seokmin pointed out, the first thing he’d said in your presence since he found out. He still wouldn’t look at you, even now. You’d shared a tent with him, spent the most amount of time with him as they marched in formation, and maybe that was why he was taking it the hardest. To see the usually so happy man like this was painful.
“I didn’t patch her up just for you to end her,” Mingyu said.
“What are we supposed to do?” Soonyoung challenged, “She’s not a pet.”
You looked at Seungcheol, at the man you respected more than you ever thought possible. “I’ll accept your judgment, Captain Choi.”
His lips twisted into a bitter smile. “You haven’t called me that in months.” You didn’t answer. You weren’t sure if you were supposed to. His eyes flickered to Mingyu, “How long is recovery expected?”
“Another three weeks at least for me to feel comfortable,” the medic explained.
Seungcheol looked back at you. “Consider this a debt paid. A life for a life,” he murmured, “Hyunjin will stay with us on the march to the capital until Medic Kim says that you’re well. Then you’ll leave and never come back.”
It was the best scenario and yet the mercy only made disappointment curl in the pit of your stomach. “Yes Captain.”
“We don’t speak of this,” Seungcheol’s eyes landed on each in his battalion, men he trusted more than anything.
The room saluted. “Yes Captain.”
-
On the nights where the negative thoughts become too much, you think living like this might be a bigger punishment than execution. You hadn’t been alone in months and now the sudden absence felt like missing a limb.
You still had your tent, the same one you’d been assigned to that first day but Seokmin had left it almost as soon as the decision to keep you around had been made - you’d caught him as he left, canvas bag thrown over his shoulder. He’d avoided looking at you as he scurried to Seungkwan and Mingyu’s tent. It shouldn’t have hurt as much as it did, shouldn’t have brought a lump to your throat or had tears burning the corner of your eyes. You didn’t sleep that night, trying desperately not to cry.
The next day, he still came to help you put down the tent after breakfast, preparing for the next day of marching. You murmured your thank you but got no response in turn, just the swing of the rolled up tent onto his broad shoulders.
You still had your meals given to you by Chan but now you were the last one to eat, just on the outskirts of the warmth of the fire. Your fingers accidentally brushed the younger officers when you took the bowl and he nearly dropped it in the dirt in his eagerness to get away from you.
You couldn’t do basic training. You’d tried but Jihoon had stopped you with a tightness in his expression. “I think it’s best if you ask if Mingyu has something you can do.” Mingyu had given you a list of herbs to organise so it wasn’t that you were bored, but it was another line of separation that highlighted just how little they wanted to do with you.
You hated that it hurt you so much. As the only child of a great family, you were alone a lot of the time, time taken up by ceremonies and responsibilities that were suitable for a daughter. You did them with a smile because you had to. Running about to join the army might have been the first thing you’d actually done for yourself. You hadn’t expected to love it, to love the routine and the power it gave you, to love watching the sun rise and set as you marched through landscapes you never thought you’d see in your lifetime.
And the people. You adored them in a way you didn’t think it was possible to love those who weren’t in your family line.
You missed Seokmin’s laugh, how it shook his whole body and he had to lean on you for support. You missed Seungkwan’s singing at the most inopportune times, especially during the night watch. You missed Soonyoung’s jokes and Jihoon’s tired acceptance of them.
You missed Vernon’s quiet correction of how you hold your sword and how Jun seemed to know exactly what you were feeling before you could even formulate the words yourself. You missed Jeonghan’s teasing and how Joshua fell into the trap every single time.
You missed drinking tea in the early morning with Minghao after a long night patrol and joining Chan to hunt whatever animal was available to eat in the mountains. You missed Mingyu getting just a little too drunk on moonshine and spilling one too many secrets of his own secrets. You missed the shy way that Wonwoo smiled when his battalion teased him before cutting them down with the driest comments. You missed the way Seungcheol used to watch over you all, softness in his eyes.
You’d never get that again, you thought, but you couldn’t bring yourself to regret it. No, the pain of what you had lost would just stay with you for the rest of the life your Captain had determined you got to keep. A lifetime of punishment indeed.
-
It’s on the fifth day of your social isolation that the camp was ambushed. You were in your tent when the noises started, familiar enough that they scratched down the back of your mind like a physical wound. You were up, moving instinctively. You grabbed at your sword - you still sharpened it daily, like you’d be taught, even if you weren’t being actively trained anymore - and pushed open the tent flaps to carnage.
Hun. A unit like yours, likely on their way to the battle front as you had been, and now reconvening further into the country. An attack of opportunity because how could anyone resist their enemy so unsuspectedly waiting for them?
Adrenaline thrummed through you and you were taking a step forward, ready to jump in, before you were blocked.
“Stay behind me,” Wonwoo insisted, already using his broad form to shove you where he wanted.
“I can fight,” you reminded, already skirting around, before the firm hand of Joshua pushed you back.
“Stay back,” he ordered firmly. “We can’t let you get hurt again.”
“Hurt saving your sorry arses,” you reminded him. There was something about the way he said it that stunk of ‘man protects woman’ and you wanted to scream. “I’m fine.”
“Would you just listen for once?” Soonyoung complained.
You pushed through again, back into formation. “You would never have let me sit out of a fight.”
“That was before,” Joshua murmured bitterly. His body was already moving to block you again, so you shoved him hard in the right shoulder.
“Your sudden realisation that I have tits does not determine whether I can stab someone,” you snapped. “You guys trained me. Do you have no faith in your skills?”
Wonwoo’s jaw tightened. Soonyoung looked like he wanted to strangle you. Joshua’s gaze danced around your face before sighing in defeat. “Just...stick close, okay?”
You tried not to let the relief thumping through your body show on your face. “Yes sir.”
Soonyoung spluttered. “Are you crazy?”
“She’ll follow us anyway,” Joshua sighed, “At least this way we won’t be distracted.”
“Speak for yourself,” Wonwoo grumbled but you ignored him.
It was strange how, when fighting, you felt more at peace than you had all week. Your side pulled uncomfortably around your stitches and you had no doubt that you might have opened it again but you didn’t care. How could you when you could almost pretend that things were back to normal?
If you dodged, another swung their sword to cut down the enemy. When Soonyoung ducked, you were swinging over his head, a clean cut across the jugular. An axe head clipped you before you could put more distance between you but Wonwoo was already there, delivering a pommel blow to the side of the attacker’s head. Joshua made formation calls and you all slipped into them instinctively, muscle memory.
Around you, you could see the others of your battalion, weapons blurring at the speed they are moving. You watched a Hun soldier kick Jun in the chest and Minghao jump in from the side, diverting attention to himself. You caught Chan using nearby branches as offensive weaponry so Jeonghan could cut at the tendons on the back of a heel.
It was bloody. It was exhausting.
You felt like you could breathe easier.
You didn’t move fast enough.
Oxygen was punched out of your chest by an arm, the owner shoving you until your back slammed against the trunk of a tree. You gripped at his hand, suddenly so aware of how much bigger the Hun were than you, and tried to use your legs to kick out. He took the blow with a wince and pressed down harder.
“A pretty boy,” he breathed, words twisting in an insult, “ever taken Mongolian cock before?”
He tightened his grip enough that you could see spots. Over the fur covered shoulder, you see your captain barrelling closer. “You ever,” you wheezed, “had your throat cut before?”
You could see the confusion flash through his eyes before they were replaced by shock and the sharp end of a blade through the side of his neck. The grip on you tightened and then loosened as he was shoved away, heavy body dropping like lead on the dirt floor. You landed unsteadily on your feet and coughed through sharp inhales.
“What are you doing here?” Seungcheol snapped.
“What I was trained to do, Captain Choi,” you rasped.
You could see the vein in his forehead pulsing, but he couldn’t comment any further because there was another sword being thrust at him.
The fight continued until Mingyu put an axe head into the back of the last member of the Hun unit. Post-fight silence rose up to surround them and you couldn’t hear anything except your own heartbeat. Your eyes scanned over each of them, taking a mental stock of bruises and cuts and ultimately the fact that each one was still on two feet. A momentary relief, of familiarity, before eyes snapped to you and an irate captain was storming across the bloody ground towards you.
You straightened up instinctively, falling to attention.
“What the fuck were you thinking?” Seungcheol demanded, “you should have stayed inside.”
“And let you fight the Hun without me?” you retorted, “Not a chance of that in hell, captain.”
“Do you have a death wish?”
“My death would bring honour to my family name,” you said firmly.
Seungcheol pinched the bridge of his nose. “And what exactly would happen to my name if I brought home your father’s daughter in a body bag?”
It hurt you to think about them, so you tried not to. “They would know I died for my country.”
Somewhere over his shoulder, you heard Seungkwan’s long groan of “we’re terrible influences.”
The captain clearly heard it too, his lips twitching upward in the corner before he could stop himself. It had been so long since you’d been on the receiving end of such a look and you held on to it greedily. You tried not to tremble at the way Seungcheol’s eyes dragged down you, assessing, heavier than they had been before.
“We should leave you at the next village,” he mused.
You retorted quickly, “You can’t.”
Seungcheol arched an eyebrow. “And why is that?”
“A life for a life,” you whispered. “I have a life debt. I will not be dishonoured.”
Seungcheol looked at you incredulously before laughing, this breathy and full body thing that made you feel warm all over. You hadn’t heard him laugh like that before. “You’re the strangest woman I’ve ever met,” he commented, “to willingly stay in a warzone.”
“It is my honour,” you explained.
“And mine too, I suppose,” Seungcheol sighed and then groaned, rubbing a hand down his face. “This is insane. You’re insane. I’m insane.”
“So we really are going to keep her as a pet,” Soonyoung commented and then yelped when Jihoon elbowed him in the side. “Fuck, hyung, that hurt.”
“Do you have any idea how to talk to women?” Jihoon hissed.
“Only his mother,” Chan teased and let himself get pulled into a headlock by Soonyoung.
Seungcheol was still watching you. He didn’t quite look like your commander any more, expression softened at the edges. It was enough to make you feel breathless. “Don’t think you’re going to get out of clean up duty,” he commented.
“Seokmin is the one who keeps taking the tent roll,” you challenged.
The man in question squeaked, eyes wide as if caught under cannon fire, and a flush crossed the bridge of his nose. “I can’t just let her carry it,” he insisted, “it’s not right.”
“I did before,” you reminded me.
“My father would be so disappointed, I can’t,” Seokmin shook his head.
“Wait until he finds out that you slept next to an unmarried woman for 3 months,” Jeonghan joked. His words were light but the implication was clear.
“Nothing happened!” Seokmin insisted.
“I wouldn’t,” you said at the same time.
Your old tent mate looked offended. “What do you mean, wouldn’t? I’m a handsome guy!”
It was true. In your life before, everything about Seokmin - about any of them really - would have been positive in the list the matchmaker gave you. He’s from a good family, too genes, pretty smile, would treat you right. The thought had occurred to you that if you brought any one of these men home with the promise of grandchildren, your parents might forgive your transgressions that lead to this moment.
You forced your thoughts away from there immediately. “Do you want me to want to fuck you?”
Seokmin looked like a fish out of water, gapping at you. Mingyu looked a mixture of delighted and disgusted. Jun had pushed his lips together to try not to laugh so obviously.
Seungcheol rubbed his temple. “No one is fucking anyone.”
Minghao booed. Jihoon cuffed the back of his neck.
“You’d be so lucky,” you said and rolled your eyes to the heavens so you didn’t collapse into a ball of embarrassment.
“Mingyu, check her stitches,” Seungcheol ordered, raising his voice in a very pointed change of subject, “and then we’re moving on before another unit tries to corner us. We move in 10.”
“Yes captain.”
-
Even before the truth came out, there was something about you that Mingyu found powerfully attractive.
It made sense, he thought, that you weren’t who you originally claimed to be. It was in the way that you spoke, your view of the world and those around you. It was how you held everything with such gentleness, except for your sword. It was in how you smiled and he felt like his heart was going to beat out of his chest.
Mingyu had known for a long time that he liked pretty things and you just happened to be one of the prettiest in this dark time.
You sat on the edge of his sleeping mat, undershirt tugged up so that he could reexamine your injury. He tried not to touch you too much - he’s never bandaged a woman until you, and there was some rule about decorum shouting at the back of his mind that sounded suspiciously like his old teacher. Seungkwan rested against his own, back to you, taking the privacy as a time to rest before they start their march again - “and to keep you honest,” he had teased, making Wonwoo flush and demand that Mingyu explain himself.
You’d laughed, another pretty thing, at his embarrassment.
Now, adrenaline slipping through your fingers and the confidence you’d had in front of their captain was disappearing, you had only anxious sadness.
“Do you think it’ll go back to normal?” You muttered, a sweet confession that made Mingyu’s chest hurt.
He had been in a unique position of straddling the line between you, the woman they didn’t know, and the others, the men who didn’t know how to handle the lie. He’d had to, being the only medic in the unit and, in all honesty, he thought he liked you too much by then to actually keep his distance.
You’d not said it but it was easy to tell how the last days had cut at you. When Jihoon had removed you from basic training, you’d come to him, as ordered, and sat in gloomy silence as you organised herb packets and lotions at his request.
Mingyu didn’t want to lie. “Maybe,” he answered, “but I do know what it didn’t feel right until we were fighting with you at our side.”
Seungkwan snorted. “That's so cheesy Gyu.”
Mingyu flushed in embarrassment but you laughed. “I love the cheese,” you promised. Your hand reached for his and squeezed, and he tried not to focus on how much bigger he was compared to you. Looking at you this close, he wondered how many one ever thought you were the eldest son at all.
“Just keep a few ingredients unstocked for me, just in case,” you said. It was hard to tell if you were joking or not but Mingyu answered with all honesty.
“Of course. Always.”
Seongkwan coughed as if that could cover the giggle he let out. The back of Mingyu’s neck warmed. You grinned at him and released your grip. He shouldn’t have missed it as much as he did. “So how’s the stitches looking?”
Mingyu’s eyes flickered down and back again. “In tact but barely.”
You winced. “Sorry to ruin your hard work.”
“It’ll scar if you don’t let it heal properly,” he pointed out.
“You all have scars, I should get a few of my own,” you commented. Mingyu bit down the urge to say it’s different when it’s you, the eldest daughter of a noble family. Instead, he cleaned the weeping edges of the wound and redressed it quietly. You thanked him, said you were going to repack and disappeared beyond the tent flaps.
Across the tent, Seungkwan tied the string on his bag. “You could be less obvious,” he teased.
Mingyu whipped his head around to his old friend with wide eyes. “Do you think she noticed?”
“I think she’s too polite to say anything, but she isn’t stupid,” he commented, “neither is anyone else.”
“Do you think the others,” Mingyu paused, as a thought occurred to him. “wait, do you -”
Seungkwan groaned when he stretched, slipping the drawstring back onto his back. “I think,” he said, choosing his words carefully, “Lady Jin doesn’t realise how much power she has over us. All of us.”
Mingyu thought about your smile again, the way it brightened every facet of your face, and the startling truth that he’d spill blood willingly to keep you happy. He pressed down on his knuckles, working out the cramp rising there. “All of us huh?” He mused.
Seungkwan’s lips stretched into a bashful smile and gave a one armed shrug. “What can I say? That’s a girl worth fighting for.”
Mingyu barked out a laugh. “Now who’s being cheesy?”
-
“Are you sure about this?” Jihoon murmured.
Seungcheol sighed. “What choice do I have? You heard the lady.”
It still felt strange to say. When you had stumbled into the camp, imperial summons in your hand, Soonyoung had thought you did not look like a solider. But then, that’s the problem with conscription - boys with luxuries and those without food in their bellies showed up in equal measure, and it was part of his job as a General to make them war ready. It wasn’t something Soonyoung enjoyed but it was something he was proud of.
Hyunjin had been weak. Makes sense now, he thought, because no noble family would have their eldest daughter doing any activity to build muscle or stamina. You were smart though, he’d recognised, could reroute the unit in a moments notice, and determined. You picked up the sword when you dropped it. You walked on shaking legs. You fell over tree roots and got back up.
Soonyoung respected you.
“That lady shouldn’t be here,” he said, firm.
The Kwon family was one of nobility and as the second son, a career in the military was expected. As a child, he’d grown up with all the rules and expectations and social agreements drilled into him. “Your honour,” his father had said, “is everything.”
Soonyoung had never felt so dishonourable than when you were dragged before them, a wound in the side of your torso and the damning truth that you weren’t Hyunjin after all.
Lady Jin.
We should have protected her, he thought with a tight jaw. He knew he wasn’t the only one who thought so. They had all been dealing with the new truth in some way - the reality that bumped up against their previous understanding, the closeness they had gained, the feeling of betrayal at being lied to by someone who they considered family.
“But she’s here now,” Jihoon reminded. His lips flickered into a fond smile, only recognisable to those who knew him well. “With a life debt.”
“So she stays,” Seungcheol repeated, “until we get to the imperial city and can send her home.”
It was what he wanted and yet it still struck him uncomfortably. Home meant not here, not with them. Soonyoung shook the thought away - he was not ready to follow it to an unfortunate conclusion.
“Lady Jin is Hyunjin to whoever asks,” Seungcheol added, “if someone were to find out…”
“They won’t,” Jihoon was confident, “this unit wouldn’t do anything to put her at risk.”
“How can you be sure?” Soonyoung asked.
The shorter General laughed, his grin stretching wide. “Haven’t you seen how they look at her? Everyone thinks they’re being so sly.”
“Everyone?” Seungcheol arched an eyebrow. He didn’t sound upset, only surprised by the revelation.
“Not me,” Soonyoung was quick to refuse.
Jihoon’s eyes flickered to him and gave a small shrug. “Whatever you say, Soonie.”

A/N : This is my first time writing, so advice, tips and critics are helpful :). English isn't my first language so I used tools to help me write.
Hi, Everyone! I want to apologize for the long wait. I hope you all still enjoy the story :) For the next couples of chapters are going to be about their vacation, so don't worry about the angst for now :]
and for @foreveralistener1 , thank you for asking if they all dating or what. Well I didn't think of it before, but yes (?) they are in a poly relationship. In this story straykids didn't want y/n as a pet, but want her as a their lover. Let's say it's more of a pack dynamic.
The afternoon sun hung comfortably above the coastline, warm enough to brighten the ocean into sparkling shades of turquoise but softened by a steady sea breeze that kept everyone comfortable. Waves rolled rhythmically onto the shore while distant laughter from children and families blended naturally with music drifting from nearby beach cafés.
After finishing the seashell painting session and carefully setting the finished shell art aside to dry, you and Hyunjin carefully cleaned the long wooden table together.
"Hold this side."
"I got it."
The two of you lifted the newspaper covered in tiny paint stains before folding it neatly. Hyunjin gathered the brushes while you sealed the paint tubes, making sure every cap was tightly closed.
"You really packed everything."
"I told you I came prepared."
"You packed enough supplies for an entire art class."
You laughed proudly.
"What if everyone suddenly wanted to paint?"
"...Fair point."
He bumped his shoulder lightly against yours.
"I'm glad you did."
You smiled before pulling a large picnic cloth from your beach bag.
"Oh!"
"Can you help me spread this?"
Hyunjin grabbed the opposite corner.
Together you snapped the cloth through the air.
It floated gently before settling perfectly across the long wooden table.
One by one, containers began appearing across the table.
Cold fried chicken.
Kimbap.
Fruit.
Sandwiches.
Rice balls.
Snacks.
Bottled drinks.
Fresh fruit juice.
You arranged everything neatly while Hyunjin lined up paper cups and napkins.
When everything was finally ready, he cupped both hands around his mouth.
"Everyone!"
"Lunch!"
Immediately heads turned.
Han was the loudest, as usual, he practically sprinted
“Why do I have sand in places I didn’t even know existed?”
“You threw yourself onto the ground four times,” Seungmin replied, not even looking up from the bag of snacks he was unpacking. “That is a consequence of your own choices.”
“I was saving the volleyball.”
“You missed the volleyball.” Changbin laughed so loudly while carried the cooler closer to the table. Jeongin tucked the volleyball beneath one arm. Minho casually folded his hammock before joining everyone. Chan smiled watching everyone naturally gather around the table.
The table filled quickly. Chairs scraped against the sand. Someone claimed the seat closest to the shade. Someone else complained that they were sitting too close to the sun. Felix happily passed drinks around.
You sat between Hyunjin and Minho, and for a while, everything slowed down.
The conversation was softer now.
The kind that came after laughter had tired everyone out a little.
The sea rolled behind you in steady waves. The wind carried salt through the air, cooling the warmth of the sun against your skin. White clouds drifted lazily through the sky, soft and slow, as if the entire afternoon had nowhere else to be.
Minho handed you a piece of fruit without saying anything.
You accepted it automatically.
“Thank you.”
“You need to eat too,” he said simply.
“I am eating.”
“You’ve been feeding everyone else.”
You smiled sheepishly.
Hyunjin leaned closer from your other side.
“She does that.”
“I do not.”
“You do.”
“You both are exaggerating.”
Chan looked up from across the table, his expression warm.
“You take care of us before you take care of yourself.”
“I just like doing things for you guys.” You replied smiling widely.
“We know,” Chan said gently. “But let us take care of you too.”
You nodded. “Okay.”
Time moved quickly after lunch.
One moment, the table was full of food and chatter. The next, it was already past noon, the sky bright and open above the water. More people had started arriving at the beach. Families laid out towels across the sand. Couples walked along the shore. Children ran past with buckets and plastic shovels. You heard different languages around you, laughter blending with music from the nearby bar and the distant sound of waves.
The beach felt alive.
The weather was perfect.
Not too hot.
Not too cold.
Just warm enough that the breeze felt like a gift every time it brushed across your skin.
After everyone finished eating, the members helped clean up. Changbin gathered empty containers while Felix folded the tablecloth. Seungmin wiped down the wooden surface with a wet cloth, complaining that everyone had somehow managed to spill something.
Jeongin stretched his arms above his head, looking toward the ocean.
“We should swim soon.”
Felix immediately brightened. “Yes! The weather is perfect for swimming now.”
"Finally!" Hyunjin shout excitedly. "I've been waiting!"
Everyone hurried toward the beach bags.
Everyone began reapplying sunscreen, passing bottles around, helping one another reach the backs of their shoulders. The smell of coconut and aloe filled the air. Felix squeezed too much onto Han's shoulder.
Han complained.
"You trying to marinate me?"
"You'll thank me later."
Changbin groaned.
"Someone do my back."
"You have hands."
"They don't reach."
You laughed while rubbing sunscreen across your own shoulders.
You finished applying sunscreen to your arms, then looked toward the small hut bar near the edge of the private beach.
“I’ll get ice cream while we wait for this to set.”
Eight heads turned toward you immediately.
“Ice cream?” Han repeated.
“Yes.”
“What flavors?”
"I already know."
Han pointed dramatically.
"I love you."
"I know."
Felix’s eyes widened.
“You remembered?”
“Of course I remembered.”
Your tail swished happily behind you as everyone began listing their choices at once. You laughed as you memorized the orders.
“I’ll be back.”
“Be careful,” Chan called automatically.
You waved. “I will.”
The members shouted their thanks as you slipped your oversized white shirt off, folding it neatly onto your chair before heading toward the small beachside hut
The hut bar was only a short walk away. You left your loose white shirt draped over the back of your chair and made your way across the sand, the black halter swimsuit and wrap skirt moving lightly with each step. The sun warmed your shoulders. The sound of the beach softened the farther you moved from the others.
The little beach bar bustled with customers. Colorful menus hung overhead. The scent of waffles, coffee, and vanilla drifted through the air. You waited patiently beside the counter while the staff finished another order. Leaning lightly against the wooden bar, you glanced out toward the ocean.
At first, you didn’t notice the attention.
You were too focused on remembering everyone’s orders.
One chocolate.
One strawberry.
One mint chocolate.
One cookies and cream.
One vanilla.
One coffee.
Maybe an extra one for whoever complained later.
You leaned against the counter while the staff served the people ahead of you.
Then you felt it.
That uncomfortable awareness.
Someone watching.
You glanced to your right.
Two men stood nearby, both hybrids.
One had black panther ears and a sleek tail that flicked slowly behind him. The other had tawny puma ears and a bright, easy smile. They looked around your age, maybe a little older.
The puma hybrid noticed you looking.
“Hi,” he said cheerfully. “Vacation?”
You gave him a polite smile.
“Yeah.”
“Us too,” he replied. “How’s it been? Hopefully a great vacation”
“It’s been nice.”
Your answer was short, but you kept your tone friendly.
He seemed harmless at first.
Too friendly, maybe.
But harmless.
“I’m Joon,” he said, offering a hand. “This is my cousin, Dojin.”
The black panther hybrid nodded politely with a small smile.
“Nice to meet you.”
You noticed the way their scents layered over one another.
Not just their own scents.
Other people’s scents too.
Strong perfume. Different pheromones. Traces of multiple women, human and hybrid alike.
Your nose twitched and your instincts tightened.
You didn’t take Joon’s hand.
Instead, you bowed politely.
“Nice to meet you too.”
Joon’s smile twitched for half a second, irritation small enough written on it.
“So, what are you getting?”
“Ice cream.”
“For yourself?”
“For my friends.”
“Oh,” Dojin said, moving a little closer. “We can join you.”
You blinked.
“No, thank you.”
The staff finally looked ready to take your order, so you stepped forward and ordered.
“Come on,” Joon interrupted lightly, still trying to make the conversation going. “We’re just being friendly.”
You kept your eyes on the staff.
“I’m here with people already.”
“Still,” Dojin said, now standing closer on your other side. “It’s a shame for a pretty hybrid to be alone.”
Your ears flattened.
“I’m not alone, I told you I’m with a group.”
Joon leaned in.
Too close.
His fingers reached toward a strand of your hair on your shoulder.
You recoiled immediately.
“Please don’t touch me.”
The smile on his face changed.
Not disappearing.
Just becoming less friendly. His tail brushed against the back of your knee.
You flinched.
Taking another step away.
The movement only encouraged him.
"You're really pretty. You know that?"
The staff handed over the bag of ice creams, and relief rushed through you.
You grabbed it quickly.
“I have to go.”
You tried to step around them.
Dojin lifted an arm, blocking your path.
Your body stiffened.
“Move.”
“Why are you in such a rush?” he asked. “We just want to talk.”
Joon’s hand caught your wrist.
Not painfully at first.
But firm.
Too firm.
“Let go.” Your voice lost every ounce of politeness and became more venomous with irritation. His grip tightened when you pulled back. He only tugged your wrist slightly closer. Trying to shorten the distance. A faint wave of his pheromones drifted toward you. Enough to make you grimace and hissed at him.
The plastic bag crinkled in your other hand.
Your tail puffed slightly behind you.
“Let go,” you repeated, sharper this time.
Then—
“You heard her.”
The voice cut through everything.
Calm.
Cold.
Low.
Controlled.
Cold enough that both men froze.
“Let her go.”
You turned your head.
Chan stood a few steps away.
Changbin and Hyunjin were behind him.
None of them were smiling. Chan took one measured step forward.
"Let."
"Her."
"Go."
Each word landed heavier than the last.
The air seemed to shift.
Chan’s eyes were dark, jaw clenched tightly, scowling at them both. Now you understand why some other fandom thought that Bang Chan is scary. Changbin’s shoulders were tense, his entire posture protective. Hyunjin looked calm at first glance, but the scent coming from him was sharp and sour with anger.
The two hybrids noticed it too.
Their confidence faded quickly.
“She’s not alone,” Hyunjin said quietly. “She’s with us.”
Joon let go of your wrist immediately.
Dojin stepped aside.
Both bowed quickly.
“Sorry.”
“We didn’t mean anything.”
Chan didn’t move.
His eyes stayed on them.
“You need to leave.”
They nodded again, more urgently this time. Then walked away.
Only when they disappeared into the crowd did your shoulders finally loosen.
Changbin came to you first.
His hands gently cupped your face, checking you over like he needed to make sure you were truly alright.
“Are you okay?”
You nodded.
Your voice came out quieter than you expected.
“Yeah.”
Chan looked at your wrist.
A faint red mark had started to appear.
His expression tightened.
Hyunjin took the ice cream bag from your hand so you didn’t have to hold it anymore.
“That was unpleasant,” you complained.
Chan’s hand rested lightly against your shoulder.
“You did the right thing.”
“I didn’t even know what to do.”
“You told them no,” he said. “That was enough.”
Changbin looked like he wanted to say more.
Like he wanted to chase after them.
But instead, he took a slow breath.
“We’re here now.”
You looked at the three of them.
Your chest felt warm and shaky at the same time.
“Thank you.”
Hyunjin brushed a loose strand of hair away from your face.
“Always.”
When you returned to the table, everyone noticed immediately.
Han’s smile faded the second he saw your expression.
“What happened?”
Felix stood up from his chair.
“Are you okay?”
You handed out the ice creams first because it felt easier than speaking.
Chocolate to Han.
Strawberry to Felix.
Mint chocolate to Seungmin.
Vanilla to Jeongin.
Then you finally explained.
“Two hybrids at the bar tried to talk to me.”
Everyone went quiet.
“They kept flirting and getting closer,” you continued. “I told them no, but they wouldn’t move. One of them grabbed my wrist. They didn’t really listen.” You rubbed your wrist unconsciously.
"I could smell several different female pheromones on both of them."
Your nose scrunched.
"It honestly made me uncomfortable."
Han’s face fell completely.
Felix looked upset in a quiet way, his brows drawing together.
Minho reached for your wrist carefully, turning it over just enough to see the red mark. His voice stayed calm. But his eyes did not.
“They touched you after you told them not to?”
You nodded.
Chan answered before you could.
“We handled it.”
Han suddenly stepped forward and wrapped both arms around you.
Tight.
Protective.
His chin rested against your shoulder. "Aww..."
"My poor kitten."
He hugged you dramatically.
"I'm okay."
"I know."
"But still."
He squeezed you once more before finally letting go.
Han suddenly stepped back.
Looking at you from head to toe.
He dramatically placed both hands against his own chest.
"...Well."
"No wonder."
You blinked.
"What?"
He pointed at you with complete seriousness.
"Look at you!"
"You look gorgeous today! It’s because you look too pretty today,” he complained softly, voice muffled against you. “Too pretty. Too cute. Too everything.”
You blinked.
“Jisung.”
“I’m serious.”
He pulled back just enough to look at you.
“You’re wearing this swimsuit and your hair looks like that and you’re smiling all day and—”
“Han,” Seungmin warned, amused despite the tension.
Han ignored him.
“I mean, look at her!”
He gently turned you toward the others, hands resting at your waist as if presenting evidence.
“This outfit is dangerous.”
“Jisung,” you groaned, cheeks burning.
“And this part—”
He motioned toward the side of your swimsuit, touching both your waist, where the fabric curved naturally along your waist and dig a little to the flesh. Swaying you a little, making you giggle.
“You look so good !”
“Okay,” you said quickly. “Okay. You do not need to shout.”
Everyone laughed softly.
Even Chan.
Even Minho.
The tension eased just enough for you to breathe again.
Han hugged you from behind this time, his voice quieter.
“Sorry.”
“For what?”
“For making jokes.”
You turned your head slightly.
He looked genuinely worried.
“I’m okay,” you told him. “Really.”
“I know, and it’s not your fault that they behave like that. It’s not because how you look but it’s their fault for having a bad intention.”
You nodded slowly. “I know.”
Felix slipped his hand into yours. "If someone looked at our Y/N...of course they'd think she's beautiful."
He smiled warmly. "But they should also know when 'no' means 'no.'" His fingers squeezed gently. “Stay close today?”
You smiled at him. “Okay.”
Chan reached over, gently patting the top of your head.
"You handled it well. You stayed calm. I'm proud of you."
The ocean stretched wide and endless before you.
The sun shone brightly overhead. The beach was still full of laughter, music, and strangers passing by. But your wrist still tingled faintly where Joon had grabbed you, and it didn’t stop you to continued enjoy the rest of the day.
The afternoon sunlight had softened into a warm golden hue, laying ribbons of shimmering light across the ocean. The tide rose and fell with a patient rhythm, washing over ankles and retreating with a hiss that sounded almost like quiet laughter.
The beach felt alive. And somewhere in the middle of all of it...
Lee Minho was very seriously trying not to drown in water that barely reached his chest. It's cute that a cat accompanied and apparently teaching Minho basic swimming skill right now.
“Come on! You can do it! You can do it!”, you cheered on him.
"I can't believe this." His deadpan expression alone made you burst into another fit of laughter.
"I'm serious!" you wheezed, one hand clutching your stomach while the other still held tightly onto his forearm. "You're kicking so aggressively!"
"I have to."
"You don't."
"I do."
"You don't!"
"I absolutely do."
The water splashed wildly every time he kicked.
His legs were moving with enough force to probably scare every fish within twenty meters.
"You look like an octopus fighting for its life."
"I'm a cat."
"No, I’m the cat here literally and you look like an octopus right now. Your pouting lips supported the looks hehe."
Minho sighed dramatically. "...You're being very unsupportive for a swimming instructor."
"I've been encouraging you for fifteen minutes!"
"You've been laughing nonstop."
"I can do both."
"You really can't."
Another laugh escaped you.
Your fluffy ears twitched happily while your tail floated lazily behind you in the seawater. "Come on," you smiled, moving behind him. "Relax your shoulders more."
"I am relaxed."
"You are literally as stiff as a wooden board."
"I'm trying not to die."
"You won't die, I promise you."
"Easy for you to say."
You placed both hands carefully beneath his forearms again.
"I don't trust this." Minho still denying to continued trying.
"I've got you." You encouraged him once again.
"..."
He looked at you for a long second.
Your smile stayed gentle.
Patient.
Exactly the same smile you always wore whenever one of them needed help.
Finally...
"...Okay."
Very carefully...
Minho leaned forward a little.
Immediately—
"I'M FALLING."
"You are NOT!"
"I'M SINKING."
"You are not sinking!"
He flailed dramatically.
Water splashed everywhere.
You laughed so hard your own knees nearly gave out.
"Kick slower!"
"I AM."
"Not like you're trying to escape prison!"
"I'm trying to survive!"
"You ARE surviving! Geez!"
A tiny smile betrayed Minho's composed face.
"...You're enjoying this way too much."
"I really am."
He rolled his eyes.
"...Brat."
"You love me."
"I tolerate you."
"Liar."
"..."
"...Maybe."
You grinned victoriously.
"There!"
"You floated for ten whole seconds!"
"...Really?"
"Mhm!" You nodded happily.
His eyes actually brightened. "...I did?"
"You did."
"..."
"...Again."
Something warm bloomed inside your chest.
It was such a tiny request. But hearing the usually prideful Minho quietly ask to try again...
It made your heart melt. He’s literally such a cute softie.
"Okay."
"We'll do it again."
"As many times you want."
Not too far away—
"YAH!"
"I.N!"
Bang Chan had found today's entertainment.
Specifically...
Jeongin.
Chan wrapped one arm around the younger's shoulders before slowly—very slowly—beginning to drag him toward deeper water.
"Hyung."
"No."
"Hyung."
"No."
"I'm warning you."
Chan's dimples appeared.
"You swim well."
"I know."
"So, you'll be fine."
"No."
"Come on."
"No."
"Trust me."
"I don't."
"You should."
"I absolutely shouldn't."
Chan laughed so loudly nearby families actually turned to look.
Jeongin dug his heels into the sand.
"STOP DRAGGING ME!"
"One more step."
"No."
"One."
"No."
"Two—"
"HYUNG!"
Chan finally reached water deep enough that little waves bumped against both of them. Jeongin immediately broke free from Chan and shoved him away.
"I SAID STOP!"
Chan stumbled backward dramatically.
"Oh no."
"I've been betrayed."
"You deserved it."
Before Chan could lunge again—
Splash!
A wall of seawater exploded across his face.
Chan blinked.
"..."
Slowly...
He turned.
Seungmin stood a few meters away with both hands already cupping another pile of water.
His smile was innocent.
Far too innocent.
"Don't come near."
Splash!
Another wave of water hit Chan square in the chest.
"Hey!"
Another splash.
Chan shielded himself with both forearms while laughing so hard he could barely breathe.
"STOP!"
"No."
"Seungmin!"
"No."
Hyunjin wandered over just in time to witness the chaos.
"..."
Without asking a single question...
He crouched.
Scooped up both hands full of seawater.
Then—
Splash.
Chan stared at him in betrayal.
"...Hyunjin?"
Hyunjin smiled angelically.
"I support justice."
Chan gasped dramatically.
"Et tu?"
"I don't even know what that means."
"But yes."
Another splash.
Chan staggered backward again.
"YAH!"
Then...
Like a ray of sunshine running directly into battle—
Felix appeared.
Except...
He wasn't carrying handfuls of water.
He was carrying—
"..."
"A bucket?"
Everyone stopped.
Even Chan.
"...Where did you get a bucket?"
Felix looked down.
"Oh."
"I found it."
"..."
"...You FOUND IT?"
"Mhm!"
Then—
Without another word—
Felix lifted it over his head.
And dumped the entire bucket onto Chan.
WHOOOSH!
A waterfall crashed over the leader.
His soaked curls completely flattened against his forehead.
His oversized beach shirt clung to him pitifully. Looking like a big wet puppy.
For one second...
There was absolute silence.
Then—
Everyone burst into uncontrollable laughter.
Han had already collapsed into the shallow water.
Hyunjin doubled over clutching his stomach.
Jeongin couldn't even stand anymore.
Seungmin was clapping between laughs.
Chan slowly pushed dripping hair out of his eyes. Defeated by his loving members. "...I'm surrounded by traitors."
Felix looked genuinely proud. "It was teamwork."
"It was more of bullying, mate."
Meanwhile—
You were laughing so hard tears gathered at the corners of your eyes. You had one arm wrapped around Minho to steady him while he floated with the help of a bright yellow swim ring. His expression remained perfectly calm. Unlike Chan's complete disaster, Minho looking like a calm cat. He looked toward the soaked leader. "...He deserves it."
You snorted.
"You didn't even hesitate."
"I saw the evidence."
"The evidence?"
"He started it."
"...Fair."
Minho looked back at you.
"...You laugh a lot today."
"...Do I?"
"Mhm."
"You've laughed all morning."
You blinked.
Had you?
Thinking back...
Collecting shells.
Painting with Hyunjin.
Volleyball.
The brunch.
Swimming lessons.
Watching Chan get bullied.
Your chest suddenly felt strangely warm full with contentment.
"...yeah, I guess... I've been really happy." The words escaped before you could stop them.
Minho looked at you quietly. There wasn't teasing in his eyes anymore. Just something soft. Something almost relieved.
"...Good."
"..."
"...You've smiled more today than you have in weeks."
The laughter around you suddenly sounded farther away.
"...Have I?"
"Mhm."
"..."
"...I missed seeing that smile."
His voice was so quiet it almost disappeared beneath the waves.
Your ears lowered slightly.
"..."
"...I'm sorry."
He frowned.
"What for?"
"I made everyone worry."
Minho immediately flicked your forehead.
"Ow."
"Don't apologize."
"But—"
"I said don't."
"..."
"...Just keep smiling. Okay?"
"...Okay."
He reached over.
Very naturally...
Very gently...
He tucked one damp strand of hair behind your ear.
"There."
You helped pulling Minho to the shallow water, “Okay, big cat, let’s take a break.” The two of you slowly walked back toward the shore once your feet touch sand. The warm sand squished beneath your feet. Water dripped from your clothes with every step. Your fluffy tail looked heavier now that it was soaked, swaying lazily behind you.
"Wow... You really are good at swimming, kitten."
Minho's voice carried genuine admiration.
You smiled shyly. "Thank you. I guess we should swim together more often."
Minho looked toward the ocean. Then back toward you.
A tiny smirk appeared. “No, thank you”.
You blinked. "Huh?"
"No. Thank You."
"What?"
"I barely survived today."
"That's not true." You burst into laughter again. "You floated for ten seconds just then!"
"I choose peace, thank you." He wrapped his hand on your shoulder pulling you closer.
"You don't even want another lesson?" You asked again with a teasing tone.
"...Only if you teach me somewhere without witnesses."
Your eyebrows lifted.
"So, pride does matter."
"A little."
"I knew it."
By the time both of you reached the beach towels—
Jeongin and Seungmin had already collapsed onto the sand beside them.
Jeongin dramatically spread himself like a starfish.
"Ahhhh..."
"So tiring..."
Seungmin leaned back on both elbows.
"My arms are dead."
"You barely did anything tho."
Nearby—
Chan finally trudged back toward the group.
Still dripping.
Still looking like the saddest wet puppy on Earth.
Felix waved enthusiastically.
"Hyung!"
"Want another bucket?"
Chan narrowed his eyes.
"..."
"...I'm revoking your dessert privileges."
Felix gasped.
"You wouldn't."
"I would."
Han immediately stood up.
"Hyung, that's crossing the line."
"It was just a bucket."
"It was emotional damage."
"It was funny."
"It wasn't."
"It absolutely was, hyung!"
The argument dissolved into overlapping laughter once more.
You sat down beside Minho, hugging your knees against your chest as the sea breeze dried your damp hair.
Your gaze wandered across every familiar face.
Chan, still dramatically complaining.
Felix apologizing while laughing.
Han nearly falling over from the tide pulling.
Hyunjin smiling quietly at everyone.
Changbin tossing a small towel onto Chan's head.
Minho pretending not to smile.
Seungmin making dry comments.
Jeongin whining about being hungry again.
And without realizing it— Your fluffy tail curled lazily against the warm sand, letting small giggle free from your own mouth.
Chan was still muttering dramatic complaints under his breath as he walked toward the group, rubbing the towel vigorously through his soaked curls.
Felix immediately held his hand out. "I said sorry!"
"After attacking me."
Chan sighed as though carrying the weight of the entire world before finally pulling his soaked shirt over his head. The wet fabric peeled away from his torso with a quiet sound before he tossed it over one shoulder.
"Much better..."
He began drying himself with the towel Changbin had thrown him earlier.
You weren't really paying attention.
At least...
Not intentionally.
Your eyes simply followed the movement.
The sunlight reflected across the droplets still clinging to his shoulders. His arms flexed naturally as he rubbed the towel through his hair, defined muscles shifting beneath sun-kissed skin. Like he was sculptured right out of the Gods and Goddesses hands
For a second...
Your brain simply stopped working.
Wait.
Since when...
...was Channie...
...that big?
Your eyes blinked once.
Twice.
The realization slowly settled in.
The Bang Chan who always let you cling to him.
Who carried groceries with one arm while holding your hand.
Who cuddled you to sleep.
Who constantly let you sit on his lap.
He'd always been strong.
But...
Had he always looked like...
that?
Your gaze wandered lower before your own thoughts caught up with you.
Immediately—
You snapped your eyes away.
Nope.
Don't look.
Respectfully.
You turned your head—
Only to accidentally land on Changbin.
...
That wasn't any better.
He was standing beside Chan, wringing seawater from his hair with both hands.
The movement made every muscle across his shoulders and arms shift naturally beneath his skin.
The sunlight only made everything more obvious.
You stared.
...
Since when did Bin...
...become built like a mountain?
Your ears twitched.
Heat slowly climbed into your cheeks.
"N-No..."
You quietly turned away again.
Only—
Hyunjin had just taken off the loose beach shirt he'd been wearing.
His broad shoulders stretched lazily as he folded it over one arm.
Felix stood beside him, abs showing proudly to the world, laughing about something Han had said. Han too without you knowing had become so buff too.
All of them...
Were somehow...
Ridiculously fit.
"..."
You blinked.
Slowly.
Your eyes wandered from one member...
To another...
To another one.
Years of endless dance practices.
Gym sessions.
Concerts.
Schedules.
Workout routines.
You had watched all of it.
Every day.
Every single year.
Yet somehow...
You had never really...
Looked.
Not like this. Growing up together all those year with them, seeing them every single day, you didn’t notice how gown of a men they are now.
You swallowed.
"..."
How...
...did I not notice this...?
Your gaze drifted downward again.
Then...
Almost against your own will...
It stopped beside you.
Minho.
He was still sitting comfortably on the sand beside you, drying his damp hands with a small towel.
Unlike Chan and the others, he still wore his swim shirt.
But...
The soaked fabric clung naturally against him.
Broad shoulders.
Defined arms.
Firm chest outlined beneath the material.
Even his forearms looked stronger than you remembered.
Your eyes slowly traced downward before—
Your brain finally screamed.
STOP STARING.
You whipped your head away so quickly one of your fluffy ears folded backward.
"..."
Oh my God.
You immediately looked toward the youngest members instead.
Surely—
Surely they'd save you.
...
No.
Not really.
Jeongin was adjusting the hem of his jersey while laughing with Seungmin. Even through the loose material...
His physique had matured noticeably.
Not as bulky as Chan or Changbin.
But athletic.
Strong.
Seungmin stood beside him, equally relaxed. His frame remained slimmer than most of the others, but his shoulders had broadened over the years, and the damp jersey outlined toned muscles earned from years of performing.
Your heart skipped.
When...
...did everyone grow up...?
You stared blankly.
Somewhere in the distance...
A wave crashed softly against the shore. The breeze lifted strands of everyone's damp hair. Your thoughts completely short-circuited.
Meanwhile...
The members had already begun walking back toward you.
Chan in front.
Changbin beside him.
Hyunjin lazily stretching.
Felix talking excitedly.
Han carrying two towels over one shoulder.
You simply...
Watched them.
Like you were seeing them from a completely different perspective for the first time. Until they were only a few steps away. Without thinking—
The question escaped your mouth.
"...When did you guys get so big?"
Silence.
Chan froze mid-step.
"...What?" His eyebrows lifted.
Changbin stopped beside him.
Han looked between both of you.
"...Huh?"
You blinked, still looking completely dazed.
Your gaze slowly stayed on Chan... Looked at him from below, your cheeks grew pink. How can someone be so hot ?
"When..."
"...did you guys get so big?"
Your voice sounded genuinely confused.
Almost fascinated.
"..."
"...And..."
You tilted your head innocently.
"...hot?"
Han's mouth slowly fell open.
Felix blinked.
Once.
Twice.
Hyunjin looked like someone had unplugged his brain.
Changbin's ears immediately turned bright red.
Seungmin coughed into his fist.
Jeongin's eyes grew comically wide.
Minho quietly looked away toward the ocean, one corner of his lips already lifting.
Chan...
Actually choked.
"W-what?"
He stared at you.
"...What did you just say?"
You frowned slightly.
"Hm?"
"I asked when you guys became so..."
You gestured vaguely toward all eight of them.
"...big."
"...And hot."
Another beat of silence.
Then—
Han dramatically grabbed his own chest.
"Oh my God."
"Did everybody hear that?"
"I think I just ascended."
Felix covered his entire face with both hands.
"She called us hot..."
His voice came out muffled.
"...She called us hot."
Hyunjin slowly looked toward Changbin.
"..."
"...Did she just compliment all of us?"
Changbin scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.
"I..."
"...I don't know what to do."
Jeongin immediately puffed his chest out.
"I've been going to the gym."
Han pointed accusingly.
"Don't ruin the moment!"
"I worked hard too!"
"You all did," you answered honestly.
Your eyes wandered over them again.
"I just..."
"I suddenly realized."
"You all looked so different."
"You've always been handsome."
"...But now..."
You scratched your cheek shyly.
"You guys really look like grown men."
"..."
"...Really attractive grown men."
Felix let out the tiniest squeak.
Changbin hid his face behind the towel.
Hyunjin laughed quietly, cheeks turning pink.
Even Seungmin rubbed the back of his neck to hide the smile creeping across his face.
Chan simply stood there.
Looking at you.
Then at the others.
Then back at you again.
A slow smirk spread across his face.
"...Well."
He folded his arms proudly.
"I guess all those gym memberships finally paid off."
That broke the silence.
Everyone burst into laughter.
"Hyung!"
Han groaned.
"You're supposed to act humble!"
"I was humble for years."
"My time has come."
Felix laughed so hard he leaned against Hyunjin.
Hyunjin shook his head, smiling.
"One compliment..."
"...and our leader becomes unbearable."
Chan only laughed, dimples showing deeply.
He reached over and affectionately ruffled your hair between your fluffy ears.
"I'm glad you finally noticed." His smirk turned into a proud grin.
Your face immediately heated more. "...I think I noticed a little too much." The boys laughed even harder. The easy teasing blended into the sound of the surf, and for a while, the beach was filled with nothing but warm laughter, playful embarrassment, and the comfortable closeness.

you don't remember the exact moment you decided that love was something that existed for other people.
maybe it was when you stopped checking your phone for messages that never came. maybe it was the hundredth time you walked past the canes on campus and felt something sharp in your chest. maybe it was just the slow realization that you had spent so long loving people who never chose you back that you forgot what it felt like to be chosen at all.
whatever it was, by the time you moved into your dorm room sophomore year, you had become very good at being alone.
you had your routine down. classes, library, coffee from the place on third that always burnt their espresso just a little, bed by midnight.
you didn't join clubs. you didn't go to parties. you kept your head down and your heart guarded and you told yourself you were fine.
you were fine.
you were fine until your roommate sooyeon came home one tuesday with a boy trailing behind her, carrying a box of textbooks that looked too heavy for his frame.
"y/n!" she called out, kicking the door shut with her foot. "this is sunghoon. he's my childhood friend from vancouver, he's transferring in this semester."
you looked up from your laptop.
the boy standing in your doorway was tall in a way that seemed almost unfair, all long limbs and elegant posture. he had the kind of face that belonged in a magazine, sharp and ethereal and slightly intimidating. he was looking at you with dark, serious eyes that softened almost immediately when you made eye contact.
"hi," you said, closing your laptop.
"hi," he said back. his voice was gentle, unexpectedly soft for someone who looked like he should be scowling on a runway somewhere. "i'm sunghoon."
"y/n," you said.
"she's quiet," sooyeon said, dropping her bag on her bed. "but she's the best roommate ever. doesn't snore, doesn't steal my food, doesn't bring weird guys over."
"sounds perfect," sunghoon said, and there was something in his tone that made your cheeks warm.
you looked away quickly, opening your laptop again. "i'm going to the library."
"it's eight pm," sooyeon said.
"i have a paper."
you didn't have a paper. you just needed to get out of the room before your heart did something stupid like start hoping.
you had learned your lesson about hoping.
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
the problem with park sunghoon was that he didn't go away.
you expected him to be a one time thing, a childhood friend who helped sooyeon move some boxes and then vanished into the vast ocean of campus life. but he kept appearing.
first it was the coffee shop on third. you were waiting for your burnt espresso when someone stepped up beside you and you looked over to see him there, wearing a black turtleneck that made him look like he belonged in an art museum.
"hey," he said.
"hey," you said back.
"sooyeon told me you come here every morning."
"she did?"
"she tells me everything," he said, and then smiled. it was a small smile, careful and sincere. "she's worried about you. she says you don't have any friends here."
you felt your defenses rise immediately, sharp and automatic. "i have friends."
"really?"
"yes."
"when's the last time you hung out with them?"
you opened your mouth to answer and then realized you couldn't. your high school friends were gone, scattered by time and betrayal and your own inability to hold onto them. ava had stopped texting back. mia and jungwon were a closed chapter you couldn't bear to open.
"i'm fine," you said instead.
"i didn't say you weren't," sunghoon replied, stepping forward to order when the barista called next. "but if you ever want to not be fine with someone else, sooyeon and i are getting dinner tonight. you should come."
he didn't push. he didn't try to convince you. he just paid for his coffee, gave you one last look that felt like he could see straight through every wall you had built, and walked away.
you didn't go to dinner.
but you thought about it.
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
he kept inviting you.
that was the thing that confused you the most. every time you saw him, which was somehow becoming more frequent despite your best efforts to avoid him, he would find some reason to extend an invitation.
"we're getting boba after class."
"sooyeon found this new study spot."
"i'm making ramen at our place, i always make too much."
you said no every time. you said no because you were busy, because you were tired, because you had learned that the only way to keep your heart safe was to keep it far away from anyone who might break it.
but sunghoon just kept smiling and saying "maybe next time" like he genuinely believed there would be a next time.
"why does he keep asking?" you asked sooyeon one night, staring at the ceiling from your bed.
"who? sunghoon?"
"yeah. i keep saying no."
sooyeon was quiet for a moment. "can i be honest with you?"
"no."
she laughed. "too bad. sunghoon is... he's careful with people. he doesn't open up easily. but he told me he thinks you're sad, and he doesn't like seeing sad people be alone."
your chest tightened. "i'm not sad."
"y/n," sooyeon said softly. "you're the saddest person i've ever met. and i don't mean that in a bad way. i just mean... you carry it really well, but you don't have to carry it alone."
you rolled over to face the wall so she couldn't see your face. "i'm fine."
"okay," she said. "but if you ever want to not be fine, sunghoon makes really good kimchi fried rice. just saying."
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
the first time you said yes was a tuesday in october.
you had spent the morning in a lecture hall that smelled like wet carpet, listening to a professor drone on about theories you didn't care about, and when you walked out into the gray afternoon you felt so heavy you could barely breathe.
your phone buzzed.
sunghoon
convenience store run. i'm buying. you in?
you stared at the message for a long time. you thought about your empty dorm room, the silence that would greet you when you got back, the way your own thoughts got louder when there was no one else around to drown them out.
you
okay.
he replied immediately: really?
you
don't make me change my mind.
sunghoon
too late. i'm already outside your building.
you looked out the window and there he was, standing on the sidewalk with his hands in his pockets, looking up at your floor like he knew exactly where to find you.
your heart did something dangerous.
you grabbed your jacket and ran downstairs.
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
"you're different than i expected," sunghoon said, handing you a strawberry milk from the convenience store cooler.
"what did you expect?"
"someone colder."
you took the milk and didn't know what to say to that. you had spent so long building walls that you forgot people could still see over them.
"i'm not cold," you said finally. "i'm just... careful."
"i get that," he said, selecting a banana milk for himself. "can i tell you something?"
"no."
he smiled. "i'm going to anyway. when i first moved to vancouver, i didn't speak any english. i was so scared of saying something wrong that i didn't say anything at all for like, three months. my mom thought i was broken."
"were you?"
"maybe a little," he admitted. "but mostly i was just trying to protect myself. i thought if i didn't say anything, no one could make fun of how i said it."
he paid for the drinks and handed you yours, his fingers brushing against yours for just a second. you pulled back like you'd been burned.
"what changed?" you asked.
sunghoon held the door open for you, waiting until you were both outside in the crisp autumn air before answering.
"i met sooyeon. she didn't care that my english was bad. she just kept talking to me until i talked back." he took a sip of his milk. "sometimes the right people make it safe to stop protecting yourself so much."
you looked down at your strawberry milk, at the way your hands were wrapped around the bottle like it was something precious.
"i don't think i'm very good at letting people in," you admitted quietly.
"that's okay," sunghoon said. "i'm very patient."
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
the second time you hung out was his fault too.
you were in the library until midnight, hunched over a textbook that was starting to blur together, when someone slid into the chair across from you and you looked up to find sunghoon there with two cups of coffee.
"you look like you need this," he said, pushing one toward you.
"how did you know i was here?"
"sooyeon has a very big mouth."
you took the coffee. it was from the good place, not the burnt espresso place, and it was exactly how you liked it.
"you didn't have to do this," you said.
"i know," he said, opening his own laptop. "i'm not doing it because i have to. i'm doing it because i want to."
"why?"
he looked at you then, really looked at you, and you felt seen in a way that made you want to run away and stay exactly where you were all at once.
"because you always look like you're waiting for everyone to leave," he said softly. "and i don't want to be another person who leaves."
your throat tightened. "people always leave."
"not everyone."
"most people."
sunghoon was quiet for a moment, then he reached across the table and tapped your textbook. "what are you studying?"
you let him change the subject because it was easier than explaining that you had already lost everyone you ever loved, that your heart was held together with tape and denial, that you didn't know how to believe in forever anymore.
"psychology," you said.
"trying to figure yourself out?"
"trying to figure out why people do the things they do."
"like what?"
"like..." you paused, staring at the coffee cup. "like how you can know someone for years and they can still surprise you by being cruel. or how you can love someone and they can still choose someone else."
sunghoon's expression shifted, something careful and knowing in his eyes. "you're talking about your friends. from high school."
your head snapped up. "sooyeon told you?"
"she mentioned it. not the details, just that something happened. that you lost people you trusted."
you looked down at your hands. "i don't really talk about it."
"you don't have to," he said quickly. "i just want you to know that you can. if you ever want to."
you didn't say anything. but you didn't get up and leave either, and sunghoon seemed to take that as a victory because he opened his laptop and started working on his own assignments, sitting across from you in comfortable silence until the library closed.
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
november came with cold rain and shorter days.
you started expecting him.
that was the dangerous part. you started looking for him in the coffee shop, listening for his voice in the hallway, feeling disappointed when you opened your phone and there were no messages from him.
you were falling into old patterns, and you knew it, but you couldn't seem to stop yourself.
"you like him," sooyeon said one night, grinning at you from her bed.
"shut up."
"you do! you light up when he texts you."
"i don't light up."
"y/n, you literally smiled at your phone yesterday when he sent you a picture of a cat."
"it was a cute cat."
"the cat was ugly."
you threw your pillow at her.
but she wasn't wrong, and that was the problem. you were starting to feel things again, starting to hope again, and every instinct you had was screaming at you to run before you got hurt.
the thing about park sunghoon was that he made it hard to run.
he remembered everything. he remembered that you hated mushrooms but loved bell peppers. he remembered that you preferred cold weather to hot. he remembered that you got quiet when you were upset and that you laughed with your whole body when something was actually funny.
he remembered that you had been hurt, and he was so careful with you because of it.
"you're too nice to me," you told him one night in december.
you were walking back from a late dinner, your shoulders brushing as you navigated the icy sidewalks, and he was carrying your bag because he insisted it was too heavy for you even though you had carried it yourself a thousand times before.
"i'm not being nice," he said. "i'm being normal. you just haven't had enough normal to recognize it."
you stopped walking. he took two more steps before realizing and turning back to look at you.
"sunghoon," you said, and your voice was smaller than you wanted it to be. "why are you doing this?"
"doing what?"
"this. all of this. the coffee and the dinners and the walking me home and the remembering things. why are you doing all of this for me?"
he looked at you for a long moment, snow starting to fall around you, and you saw something vulnerable in his expression that mirrored your own.
"because you look at me like you're waiting for me to disappoint you," he said quietly. "and i keep hoping that if i don't, maybe you'll start looking at me like i won't."
your heart cracked open.
"sunghoon..."
"i know you're scared," he said, stepping closer. "i know you think everyone leaves eventually. and maybe i'm being presumptuous, assuming i could be different. but y/n, i want to be different. i want to be someone who stays."
you felt tears prick at your eyes and you hated yourself for it. "you don't even know me."
"i know enough," he said.
"i know you take your coffee with two sugars. i know you get quiet when you're sad instead of loud. i know you pretend you don't care about things because caring has hurt you before." he reached out, hesitated, then gently brushed a snowflake from your hair.
"i know you're worth knowing more. if you'll let me."
you stood there in the snow, looking at this boy who had somehow found his way past every defense you had built, and you felt terrified and hopeful and alive in a way you hadn't felt in years.
"okay," you whispered.
"okay?"
"okay," you said again, stronger this time. "you can... you can try. to know me more."
his smile was worth every risk you were taking.
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
january brought a new semester and a new routine that included sunghoon in all the spaces he had been missing before.
he walked you to class. he saved you a seat in the dining hall. he texted you good morning every day without fail, not because he had to, but because he wanted to be the first person you heard from.
you started to believe him.
that was the terrifying part. you started to actually believe that maybe, possibly, he meant what he said. that he wasn't going to vanish. that he wasn't going to wake up one day and realize you weren't worth the effort.
"you're different," sooyeon observed one night when sunghoon had walked you home and you were lying in bed with your heart still beating too fast.
"what do you mean?"
"you smile more. you actually leave the room. you don't look like you're waiting for the other shoe to drop all the time."
"i'm still waiting," you admitted. "i'm just... trying not to."
sooyeon was quiet for a moment. "he really likes you, you know."
"he likes me as a friend."
"no," sooyeon said, and there was something knowing in her voice. "he likes you as more. he's just waiting for you to be ready to hear it."
you rolled over to face the wall, your heart hammering against your ribs. "i'm not ready."
"okay," sooyeon said softly. "but when you are, he's going to be there. that boy has been crazy about you since the day he met you."
you closed your eyes and tried not to hope too hard.
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
the panic attack happened in february.
you had been doing so well. you had gone two whole months without thinking about jungwon or mia or the caniac combo or any of the ghosts that still haunted your late nights. you had started to believe that maybe, just maybe, you were healing.
and then you saw them.
you were at the mall with sooyeon and sunghoon, wandering through the crowds while sooyeon looked for a birthday gift for her sister, when you turned a corner and there they were.
jungwon and mia.
they were holding hands. they were laughing at something on her phone. they looked happy in a way that made your chest constrict with something sharp and bitter and old.
you stopped walking.
sooyeon kept going, chattering about something, but sunghoon noticed. he always noticed.
"y/n?" he asked, following your gaze.
you couldn't breathe. you couldn't move. you were suddenly back in high school, back in that bathroom stall crying until your throat was raw, back in that moment when you realized you had lost everything.
"hey," sunghoon said, stepping in front of you, blocking your view. "hey, look at me."
you couldn't. your vision was tunneling, your hands were shaking, and you could hear your heartbeat in your ears like a drum.
"breathe," sunghoon said, and his voice was calm and steady and right there. "you're okay. you're safe. just breathe with me."
he took your hands in his, grounding you with the warmth of his skin against yours.
"in," he said, breathing in slowly. "and out."
you tried to follow him, tried to match your breathing to his, but your chest felt too tight, like there was a weight pressing down on you that you couldn't shake.
"in," he said again, and his thumbs were rubbing circles into your palms, gentle and rhythmic. "and out. i've got you. i'm right here."
sooyeon had noticed now, had come back to stand beside you, but sunghoon didn't move. he stayed right there, holding your hands, breathing with you, until slowly, slowly, the panic started to recede.
"there you go," he said softly. "that's it. you're doing great."
your vision cleared. you could breathe again. you realized you were crying, tears streaming down your face in the middle of the mall, and you felt mortified.
"sorry," you choked out, trying to pull your hands away. "i'm sorry, i'm so sorry..."
"don't apologize," sunghoon said, not letting go. "don't you dare apologize. you didn't do anything wrong."
"i ruined our day," you said, your voice breaking. "i'm so embarrassing..."
"you're not embarrassing," he said firmly. "you're human. and you had a human moment. that's allowed."
you looked up at him then, at this boy who had seen you at your most vulnerable and was still standing there holding your hands like you were something precious, and you broke.
"i loved him," you whispered, the words tumbling out before you could stop them. "jungwon. i loved him for years, and he chose her. my best friend. they both knew how i felt and they chose each other anyway. and i lost everything. everyone. they all left me."
sunghoon's expression softened into something unbearably gentle.
"come here," he said, and he pulled you into his arms right there in the middle of the mall, holding you against his chest while you cried.
you buried your face in his sweater and sobbed, all the grief you had been carrying for years finally spilling out. you cried for jungwon, for mia, for ava, for the person you used to be before you learned that love was something that could be taken away.
sunghoon just held you. he didn't tell you to stop crying. he didn't tell you it wasn't that bad. he just held you and let you feel everything you had been trying not to feel.
when you finally stopped, when your breathing evened out and the tears slowed, he pulled back just enough to look at your face.
"they were stupid," he said quietly. "whoever they were, they were so stupid. because you..." he reached up, wiping a tear from your cheek with his thumb. "you are the kind of person people should fight to keep. not leave."
you shook your head. "i'm not. i'm too much. i'm too sensitive, too anxious, too..."
"too human?" he finished. "y/n, you're not too much. you were just loved by people who didn't have enough capacity to hold all of you."
your breath caught.
"you think you're unlovable because they couldn't love you right," sunghoon continued, his voice gentle but sure. "but that was about them, not you. you were always worthy of being chosen. they just weren't brave enough to choose you."
you stared at him, this boy who had somehow seen straight to the core of every fear you had, and you realized with startling clarity that you were falling in love with him.
"how do you know?" you whispered.
"because i'm looking at you right now," he said, "and i see everything. i see how hard you try, how much you care, how deeply you love even after being hurt. and i think..." he paused, his own voice getting unsteady. "i think i would be the luckiest person in the world if you ever looked at me the way you used to look at him. because i would never make you feel like you were waiting for me to leave. i would stay. i would choose you, every single time."
your heart stopped.
"sunghoon..."
"i know you're not ready," he said quickly. "i know you need time, and that's okay. i'll wait. i'll wait as long as you need me to. but i couldn't stand there and watch you think you were unlovable for one more second, because it's not true. it's never been true."
you reached for him then, your hands finding the front of his sweater, and you pulled him down until your forehead rested against his.
"thank you," you whispered. "for not leaving."
"never," he promised. "i'm not going anywhere."
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
the weeks after the panic attack were tender in a way you didn't know how to handle.
sunghoon didn't push. he didn't expect anything from you. he just kept showing up, kept being kind, kept proving with every action that he meant what he said about staying.
but something had shifted between you.
you started letting him in more. you told him about the caniac combo, about the late nights and the inside jokes and the way it had all fallen apart. you told him about mia, about jungwon, about the way you had learned to make yourself smaller so you wouldn't be too much for people.
and he listened. he listened like your words mattered, like your pain was real, like you were worth the time it took to understand.
"can i ask you something?" he said one night in march.
you were sitting on the roof of his apartment building, your legs dangling over the edge, sharing a blanket because the spring air still had a bite to it.
"okay."
"do you think you'll ever be ready?"
you knew what he was asking. you had been asking yourself the same question for weeks, ever since the mall, ever since he had held you while you cried and told you that you were worth choosing.
"i think..." you started, then stopped. you took a breath and tried again. "i think i'm scared that if i let myself love you, you'll leave too. and i don't think i could survive losing someone again."
sunghoon was quiet for a long moment. then he reached over and took your hand, lacing his fingers through yours.
"what if i promised?" he asked. "what if i promised that i'm not going anywhere? would you believe me?"
"people break promises."
"i know," he said. "but i'm asking you to trust me anyway. i'm asking you to let me prove that i'm different."
you looked at your joined hands, at the way his thumb was tracing slow patterns against your skin, and you thought about how safe you felt with him. how seen. how loved, even though he had never said the words.
"i believe you," you whispered. "i'm scared, but i believe you."
he turned to look at you then, his eyes dark and soft and full of something that made your heart ache with hope.
"can i kiss you?" he asked.
your breath caught. "yes."
he leaned in slowly, giving you every chance to pull away, and when his lips finally touched yours it was gentle and sweet and exactly what you had been waiting for without knowing you were waiting.
he kissed you like you were something precious. he kissed you like he had been waiting his whole life to do it. he kissed you like he meant every promise he had ever made.
when you pulled apart, he rested his forehead against yours, smiling in a way that made your chest feel too full.
"hi," he whispered.
you laughed, breathless and giddy. "hi."
"is this okay?"
"this is perfect," you said, and you meant it.
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
april was for learning each other.
you learned that sunghoon was ticklish behind his knees. you learned that he hummed when he cooked and that he was terrible at making decisions before noon. you learned that he kept every photo you sent him, even the blurry ones, even the ones where you thought you looked bad.
he learned that you liked being the little spoon but would never admit it. he learned that you got cranky when you were hungry and that your love language was acts of service, even though you would never ask for help out loud. he learned that you still had nightmares sometimes about being left behind, and he learned how to hold you through them until morning came.
"you're easy to love," he told you one morning, tracing patterns on your back while you lay in bed together.
"no i'm not," you said, your voice muffled against his chest.
"you are," he insisted. "you're easy to love because you love so hard. you just needed someone who could match that."
you lifted your head to look at him. "is that what you're doing? matching me?"
"i'm trying," he said, tucking a piece of hair behind your ear. "i want to love you in all the ways you deserve. i want to be someone who makes you feel safe."
you felt tears prick at your eyes, but this time they were happy tears. "you already are."
he kissed your forehead, then your nose, then your lips, soft and lingering.
"i love you," he said, the words falling easily between you like they had always belonged there. "i know it's soon, and i know you're still scared, but i love you. and i'm going to keep loving you for as long as you'll let me."
your heart felt like it might burst.
"i love you too," you whispered. "i'm scared, but i love you. i love you so much."
his smile was the sun coming up.
"that's all i need," he said. "your love and your trust. i'll earn both every day for the rest of my life if i have to."
"you don't have to earn it," you said, realizing it was true. "you already have it. you've had it for a while now."
he pulled you closer, burying his face in your hair, and you held him back with everything you had.
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
may brought warmer weather and the end of the semester.
you were sitting on the quad with sunghoon, watching students bustle past with coffee and textbooks, when your phone buzzed.
you looked down and felt your stomach drop.
it was a text from a number you didn't recognize, but the message made it clear who it was from.
hey, it's mia. i know you probably don't want to hear from me, but i'm sorry. for everything. i hope you're doing well.
you stared at the screen for a long moment, feeling old wounds ache with phantom pain.
"everything okay?" sunghoon asked.
you showed him the phone. he read the message, his expression unreadable.
"what do you want to do?" he asked.
you thought about it. you thought about the years of hurt, the bathroom crying, the slow healing that had brought you to this moment with this boy who loved you right.
"i think," you said slowly, "i think i'm going to say thank you."
"thank you?"
"yeah," you said, typing out a response. "because if she hadn't hurt me, i wouldn't have ended up here. with you. learning what real love feels like."
you hit send before you could second guess yourself.
thank you for the apology. i'm happy now. i hope you are too.
you put your phone away and turned to look at sunghoon, at this beautiful boy who had chosen you every single day since the moment you met.
"you know what the worst part was?" you said. "feeling like i was unlovable. like there was something wrong with me that made everyone leave."
"and now?"
you smiled, taking his hand in yours. "now i know that wasn't true. i just needed to find someone who knew how to stay."
he brought your hand to his lips, pressing a kiss to your knuckles.
"i'm not going anywhere," he promised, like he had a hundred times before, like he would a thousand times more.
"i know," you said, and for the first time in years, you actually believed it.
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
the first time you brought him home to meet your parents, your mom pulled you aside in the kitchen.
"he's different," she said.
"what do you mean?"
"he looks at you like you're the only person in the room," she said, smiling. "like you're something precious. i've never seen anyone look at you like that before."
you felt your heart swell with something warm and bright. "he's the best person i know, mom."
"i can tell," she said, squeezing your hand. "he's a keeper, that one."
you looked through the doorway at sunghoon, who was helping your dad set the table and looking completely at ease despite your dad's terrible jokes.
"yeah," you said softly. "he is."
₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊
the night before summer break, you and sunghoon were lying on the roof of his apartment building again, looking up at the stars.
"are you going to miss me?" you asked, tracing patterns on his chest.
"every second," he said. "but it's only two months. and then we're back here, together, for another whole year."
"and after that?"
"and after that," he said, turning his head to look at you, "however long you want. forever, if you'll let me."
you propped yourself up on your elbow, looking down at him in the moonlight. "you really mean that?"
"i really mean that," he said, reaching up to cup your face. "you're it for me, y/n. you're my person. i knew it the first time i saw you, sitting on your bed with your laptop, trying so hard to convince everyone you didn't need anyone."
"i didn't need anyone," you said, smiling.
"and now?"
"now i need you," you admitted. "but not in a desperate way. in a... you make my life better way. in a i choose you every day way."
his eyes went soft and fond. "that's all i've ever wanted. to be chosen by you."
you leaned down and kissed him, slow and sweet and full of everything you had learned to feel again.
love wasn't supposed to hurt. that was the lesson sunghoon had taught you. love was supposed to feel like safety, like home, like someone seeing all your broken pieces and deciding to stay anyway.
"thank you," you whispered against his lips. "for teaching me how to be loved."
"thank you," he whispered back. "for letting me."
you lay back down against his chest, listening to his heartbeat, and you thought about how far you had come. from the girl crying in a bathroom stall, convinced she was unlovable, to this: lying under the stars with a boy who looked at you like you were the whole universe.
you were chosen.
you were loved.
and for the first time in your life, you actually believed you deserved it.

𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐈𝐍 ✴︎ Your fantasy to tie a ribbon on your husband's cock, took you to him where he gave you the permission to do it, but also made the ribbon tied on him hit your nose every time you deepthroated him.
Warning : 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒕 𝒔𝒆𝒙𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕 : oral [m rec] ribbon tying on dick teasing blowjob deepthroating gagging cum eating rough sunghoon face fucking praises size kink
🪷° Haze' notes : Yall- don't judge me after reading this- I just love a rough hubby Sunghoon. Happy reading!!
You had always loved ribbons. They were the one thing you were completely obsessed with. Ribbons on your hair, on your wrist, on your dresses, and sometimes when you dress up like a doll for Sunghoon, you like wearing ribbons on your neck too.
You have had that obsession since you were little. Finding them incredibly fascinating. In your eyes, ribbons could be transformed into anything you like. Ties, bows, laces, ropes, and so many more things.
So when you started dating Sunghoon, it was no secret that you loved ribbons. Your entire apartment was decorated with them. Sunghoon loved them of course. Finding them to be uniquely you. And after the both of you got married a year ago, his house was now transformed and decorated with ribbons everywhere.
What you loved the most about ribbons was how you could tie them up on Sunghoon's biceps. It had been a little fantasy of yours that came to light a few months after you both had started dating. When you shyly asked him if he would let you tie ribbons on his bicep.
Sunghoon was delighted with the idea, having no problem with it. Since that day, it had become a little ritual between the two of you. But at times, your mind wandered to images of how his cock would look like with a soft pink ribbon.
About how it would feel when you would deepthroat him. Your nose rubbing against your own ribbon which you tied on him. Your ribbon. Your mark. “Hoon?” You slowly open the door to his study, peeking your head inside to look at him.
He was working on his laptop, eyebrows frowned with focus. He was wearing a simple black tee with gray pants, your favourite combination on him. “Hmm?” He didn't look up from the screen, fingers flying on the keyboard as he replied to you.
“Can you.. take a rest for a while?” You slowly walked in, shutting the door behind you gently to not disturb the peace of the room. “Doll, I have to finish this ‘mkay?” He gave you a quick smile, his eyes darting to the small link ribbon bows on your hair. “You look pretty.”
The compliment bloomed warmth inside you but the husk in his voice shot pleasure straight to your core. You slightly squirm on the spot before walking beside his desk, placing your hand on top of his on the keyboard to stop him from typing.
“Please hoon? I miss you..” You pout, your fingers curling in his. You knew he could never deny when you plead with him, always giving into your cuteness. “I want to tie a ribbon on your cock..” As soon as those words left your lips, your husband choked on air uncontrollably. “What?!”
“Doll you can't say things like that if you won't follow through.”
“Who says I won't? I really want to..” You felt Sunghoon freeze under your touch, his breath hitched. He looked up to read your face, making sure you weren't joking and actually wanted to do it. “Ok.. do it.” You squeak and hug him tightly, murmuring quick thank yous before you push his desk chair back slightly so you get enough space to kneel before him.
Sunghoon's fingers tightened on the hand of the chair, his heart pounding. He had dreamt of this for so long, wondering how you would look with his cock deep in your mouth. Your lips parted to their maximum at his size and your nose nuzzling with the base of his shaft, where your ribbon would reside.
“Baby lift your hips,” You squeak excitedly, your hands trembling with pure joy as you pull the pink ribbon from your back pocket and tug his pants down till it hits the floor. Your mouth watered at the sight of his bulge. “May I?” You whisper, not taking your eyes off his bulge. With a single hum from him, you pull his boxers down enough so his cock springs out.
You gasp looking at its size. He was honestly very big and that at times has left you feeling extremely nervous about taking him. But he has trained you enough so you could wrap your mouth around him without choking. You gently play with the base of his skin, feeling it twitch by your touch.
“Are you excited, hoon?” You smile eerily, looking up to meet his eyes. He groaned at the view in front of him. You are on your knees, between his thighs with his massive shaft right in your face. It was too much for him. “Yes, baby—” You chuckle and bring the ribbon forward to play with his cock, rubbing it at the base. He let out a low groan, throwing his head back.
His eyes squeezed shut as his cock twitched at the touch and friction of your ribbon. “Fuck—you are so cute—” You giggle playfully and press a teasing kiss on the tip, tasting the salty precum. His hands twitched to grab your head, force your mouth open and just shove his cock down your throat but held back so you could do what you wanted to do.
You wrap the silk around the base of his shaft, lining it up perfectly as you tied the ribbon into a bow. Wrapping your fingers around his cock while teasing him with light brushes of your fingertips. “Baby, stop teasin’” You hear Sunghoon hiss, his hips jerking into your face.
“I’m just making this bow look pretty~ Look hubby,” He simply didn’t care anymore. He had his angry cock right in your face, red and throbbing while all you thought about was the bow? “Open your mouth.” The low vibration from his voice sent electricity straight down your core, making you squirm uncomfortably.
You obediently opened your mouth, sticking out your tongue just like how he likes it. You lick the base of his cock, his hands wrapping around the base of his dick, playing with your ribbon as he slaps it on your tongue. “Fuck, just like that—” You wrap your lips around the head, looking up to make eye contact with him. His face was flushed and needy, pupils blown out with his thick eyebrow frowned.
You smile and push deeper, hollowing your cheeks to suck him, your mouth already aching at the size. “Fuckk—you look s’ good baby.” You picked up your pace at his praises, your pussy already drenched with need. You place your hands on his thigh as you bob your head faster, swirling your tongue around this throbbing shaft, driving him insane.
Without warning, he grabbed your hair in his fist and started thrusting in your mouth, throwing his head back with deep grunts, chasing his pleasure. Your throat burned at the friction he was using you with, your eyes tearing up. But determined to please him, you take him even deeper, relaxing your throat until your nose nuzzled with the ribbon you had tied.
He picked up pace, using you like a plastic toy, hitting the back of your throat repeatedly while spewing praises towards you, a complete contrast to how his cock pistoned in and out of your warm mouth. You gagged around his length, gripping his thighs so you could be balanced while your own wetness leaked down your thigh.
“Fuc—honey ‘m close. Don’t you dare pull back,” Not like you could even if you wanted to. He had his hands on your hair, trapping you between his knees. Your eyes rolled to the back of your mind, saliva leaking down the corner of your lips as you tried to take breaths from your nose.
You felt him tense up under your fingertips, his moans getting louder and his movements getting sloppier. “Fuck—‘m comin’!” Before you could realize, his body tensed under your fingertips as he exploded inside your mouth. Hot spurts of cum filled your mouth as he kept pumping, pushing his release to the back of your throat as you gag violently around him.
Few drops escaped your mouth, leaking from the side of your lips as he slumped back on the chair of his desk, pulling out his now softening cock out your mouth. “Such a good mouth.. Always ready to be filled” You swallowed it all down, your tears falling from the abuse your mouth just went through.
“My wife.. Come here, love.” He picked you up from the floor and placed you on his lap, wiping his cum off your lips with his thumb before he pushed it back in your mouth. “Don’t waste anythin’, you look so pretty being cock drunk, love..” You moan and clean his finger, his thumb leaving your mouth with a pop.
His cock rested on your stomach and you whimpered and leaned in to kiss him, “My wish is complete..” he smiled and kissed you back, his thighs flexing beneath you. “I’m glad, love.. I will always give in to your fantasies.” He gave you a wink, making you shy. “Now come on, I have to take care of my beautiful wife now, I need to make her watch as my cock enters her pussy, even the ribbon she tied.”
Hi, can I request ateez 9th member poly? One reader gets injured on stage? Maybe one when reader is rehearsing her solo for the concert and the crew didn’t check her stage as she gets on the platform she tells the stage crew it’s wobbly but they insist it’s fine but reader ends up getting injured but the boys get upset when they found out what happened and postpones the concert to take care of reader?
thank you so much for the request!!! i hope you like it!

when you stepped on the platform during the initial walk through, it shook just enough for you to notice. you remember how you'd paused and called over your shoulder to your manager, "i think this needs tightening or something" before you'd continued onto the next part of the planning stage.
the second time, during a rehearsal, when it shook more, you'd frowned and said it again. your manager had furrowed her eyebrows and assured you that she had passed it on to the stadium’s production team and it should have been done by now. you watched her speak to someone with an ear piece and assumed it was handled.
This should have been fixed.
That was your thought when the ground collapsed underneath you with a bang. one moment you were preparing for your solo and the next you were looking at the ceiling. there was a ringing in your ears that seemed to match a pulsing at the back of your head and when you blinked, the light above you went fuzzy.
there were voices, muffled as if they were underwater, and then blurry faces appeared. yeosang, eyes furrowed and mouth moving but you couldn't quite hear what he said. then seonghwa's face appeared next to him, pretty eyes widened in terror.
why are you looking at me like that? you tried to ask but you weren't sure if you did. you tried to reach out, hands rising to touch the curve of their faces, to touch their bottom lips and tug away the frown, but your arms wouldn't cooperate.
when you turned your head, the world came rushing back and it hurt. you choked on a sob, a pained noise as the feeling spread, wrapping itself along your head, your neck, your back.
Somewhere beyond, Jongho and Wooyoung were shouting for medics and Yunho - angry in a way you hadn't heard before - was shouting about that fucking platform.
San was above you now, hands hovering like he wanted to touch but was too scared to. His voice stumbled over your name. "Don't move, okay baby? Just keep still - help is coming."
Mingi had nearly crashed into Seonghwa, shoulders bumping, eyes already wet. "fuck, fuck, fuck."
"My head hurts," you rasped, voice thick even to your own ears.
it was a bit of a blur after that, you'd admit. your boys were pushed aside for unfamiliar faces, equally terrified, and lights and voices sounding orders. it was hard to concentrate on anything for too long, painful to focus and making you feel nauseous.
"don't fall asleep, okay?" one of the medics told you but with each passing second, you were finding it hard to keep. Surely it would be fine for you to close your eyes, just for a moment.
-
Hongjoong had been angry before. he argued with his brother growing up. He'd been endlessly frustrated with his group members, especially as they learnt to be around each other. he'd argued with producers and show runners to ensure that ATEEZ, as an increasingly popular group, got the respect they had earned.
he didn't think he'd been this angry before.
no, it wasn't quite angry. that was the wrong word.
infuriated. bloodthirsty.
devastated.
every time he closed his eyes, Hongjoong was watching you fall in slow motion. you were laughing with one of the back up dancers, in the middle of the staging walk through, your eyes sparkling happy and full of joy at whatever the dancer had said.
and then the ground was gone from underneath you, and the dancer was gripping on to the bannisters to stop herself from falling on top of you.
it wasn't a high drop, a few meters but enough. enough that you landed with a sickening crack. enough that you couldn't move at first, frozen in shock by the impact. enough that the stadium medics had made the call for the ambulance.
He wanted to be with you but as far as the world was concerned, he wasn’t the one you were dating. None of them were, the secret kept tightly amongst those well trusted. So your manager had gripped your hand and followed the paramedics, promising to call as soon as she heard anything from the doctor.
Which left the eight of them tense, adrift and full of uncontainable rage because -
“I thought that platform was supposed to be fixed,” Hongjoong said, turning his dark gaze to the first of the venue staff around him. The poor guy was clearly an intern and in his right mind, he would have recognised that any promised maintenance wasn’t the man’s responsibility. But he wasn’t in his right mind and anyone wearing a blue lanyard was in the firing range for his ire.
The kid stumbled over excuses, slowly raising the clipboard in front of them like a shield. “I...I... it was on the repair list.”
Mingi stepped forward this time, eyes still wet, jaw tense and words even tighter as he bit out, “so you let us step on there knowing it was broken? She could fucking die.”
Yunho’s arm slid around Mingi’s chest when he took a step forward, a physical barrier to stop him from closing the gap between them and the intern, and getting on the news for beating someone into the floor. He didn’t look pleased about it though, the expression of the usually happy man descended into darkness as he stared forward.
“Fuck this,” Wooyoung said, voice wet from inside San’s protective hold. His face was blanketed in painful rage. “I’m not performing here tonight.”
“Or ever again,” San added in agreement, tense, barely holding back.
One of the producers, who had been white with shock, hidden at the back of the gathering crowd, jerked forward. “W-wait, you can’t do that! We have a contract.”
Jiyeun, their group management, pinned the man to the spot. His voice was calm, uncomfortably so, and laced with ice. “I don’t think you’re in the position to discuss contracts right now.”
“But the fans,” they tried to say. Hongjoong knew what the producers was thinking of - the refunding of tickets that would affect their budget, the anger of fans who has been cancelled on last minute, the future contracts with different musicians that no doubt would go up in smoke if this event came to light.
And it would come to light, if he had anything to say about it.
“We’ll handle our fans,” he said, sharp, unrelenting, “and you can point us to the exit.”
-
You opened your eyes and flinched at the invasive press of fluorescent lights. You jerked back into pillows and whined at the sharp pain that latticed its way through your body.
Hands reached for you, long fingers curling around your shoulder. “Whoa, don’t move baby,” the voice urged. “Don’t hurt yourself.”
You squinted one eye. “...Yu?”
The tall man offered you a watery smile. “Yeah baby, it’s me.”
Next to him, San’s head popped up, eyes red rimmed but smile blinding. “Hey pretty girl.”
“What happened?” you asked and then immediately were stuck with a fuzzy memory. Laughing, walking up the stairs, to performance - then staring up at the ceiling and the bright stage lights blurred in front of you. You fell, you recalled.
“Fuck,” you jerked. Large hands smoothed across your stomach, held onto your hips and your name fell from familiar lips.
“If you move too much,” Jongho said, “they’ll kick us out.”
“You don’t know how many strings we had to pull to get in here,” Wooyoung added, a joke delivered with such shakiness that you knew he must have been worried sick.
You made yourself still, muscles tensing as your mind whirled. “I can’t believe I actually fell.”
“Believe it,” Seonghwa spoke this time, voice a horrible mess of relief and anguish.
You turned your head to them, to all of them and took in the state of them. They were still dressed in their first stage outfits but half their make up was done. Mingi was completely bare faced, hair slicked away from his face, while Yunho had a soft blush blended across the bridge of his nose. Jongho had yanked the tight collar away from his neck, letting it fall open haphazardly. You noticed how wet their eyes were, red in the corners. Yeosang’s bottom lip was bitten raw, the red hue in the centre noticeable.
“Are...you okay?” you asked hesitantly.
Hongjoong huffed a laugh, disbelieving. “Are we okay? Are you okay? You’re the one who got hurt.”
“Well, I’m awake,” you pointed out, “Unless I’m dreaming?”
“You dream about us?” Mingi teased, tired and more out of reflex than anything else.
“In my nightmares,” you retorted, just as instinctively.
San let out a strangled noise. “Oh, she’s fine.” yet when he reached out to touch your cheek, his fingers pressed into your skin so gently you could have cried.
“What did the doctors say?” you asked and then added, “wait, are they even allowed to talk to you?”
“They spoke to the managers,” Hongjoong said, “and he told us. No brain swelling or skull fracturing, but you’ve got a hairline fracture in your spine.”
You winced. “That...sounds bad.”
“We’re lucky it's not worse,” Yunho murmured. We because you’ve always been a team.
You blinked and tears flooded your vision. Realisation of how close you came to something permanent and frustration for the future you settled heavy in your chest. All because of some stupid error, a memo that didn’t get prioritised, a warning that didn’t get listened to. A back with a fractured spine that you’ll need to rehab for a long while before you can take the stage again. Months of practice all up in smoke.
You wanted to scream but no doubt that would hurt you more.
You didn’t realise you were all out weeping until gentle hands brushed through the tear streaks. “Shush, baby, are you hurting? Do you need more painkillers?” Yeosang asked, so soft, so careful.
You hiccuped through a sob and then a wince when it pulled uncomfortably. “Yes please.”
Later, after the doctors had spoken to you, after your recovery schedule had been presented, after the boys and your managers had nodded in acceptance, already dedicated to helping you, Hongjoong pressed his forehead to your knuckles.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered. His breath was hot against your skin.
You wished you could reach across to slide your fingers into his hair, to seek and give comfort, but the doctor had warned against twisting your body in that kind of way. “It wasn’t you,” you said, firm, certain, “you don’t have to apologise.”
“I should have checked,” he insisted.
“I could have too,” you reminded, “I’m just sorry that all our hard work has gone to waste. I won’t be on stage with you for a while.” Your voice felt thick and you swallowed around the lump in your throat.
Hongjoong scoffed and shook his head. “What stage? There won’t be any until you can step on there with us.”
You know that isn’t true. You know that, even if the boys tried to push it, there would be a time where the CEO began to insist. Too many moving parts, too many expectations and consequences for broken contracts. At some time soon, your boys would board planes without you, perform without you, and you’d be home, alone, with your broken body and spiralling thoughts for company.
But for now, you let Hongjoong be right. “I love you,” your voice hitched as you said it and you shuddered, trying to breath through the ache in your chest.
Hongjoong pressed a hard kiss to the back of your hand, as if he could push all his pain and regrets into a single touch. “I love you too. We love you.”

a/n: this idea popped into my head as i was about to get in the shower so i had to write it down before i forgot 😭 as always, every like & reblog is very much appreciated and i hope you enjoy! 🩵
your boyfriend, Sunghoon, was usually very gentle with you during sex. however, he’d never deny getting a little too excited at times.
last night, you were both laying in bed getting ready to go to sleep. Sunghoon had other ideas, though.
he pulled you closer and positioned himself on top of you as he placed gentle kisses down your jaw and neck.
eventually, his and your clothes came off and he positioned himself between your legs.
Sunghoon pushed himself inside of you slowly, making sure he felt every part of you squeezing him. pulling him in.
he started off slowly - as usual. but when your whines became louder and more desperate, he couldn’t hold himself back anymore.
he flipped you over and entered you from behind. his hands gripped your hips as he pulled you back against his.
his fingers dug into your skin but not hard enough to mark you. or so you thought.
Sunghoon woke up before you the next morning and headed into the kitchen to make you both some breakfast. he didn’t wake you up. he let you sleep in after he tired you out last night.
when you woke up to the soft sizzling of bacon coming from the kitchen, you rolled out of bed and headed into the bathroom.
between your legs ached and you could still feel his hands on your hips as you turned on the tap to brush your teeth.
out of curiosity, you lifted your tank top to see if there were any marks.
surely not, though.
right?
“holy shit…” you muttered as your eyes locked onto the red and purple lines on your hips.
you dropped your toothbrush into the sink and ran your fingertips over the dark lines, almost wincing when you pressed down a little too hard.
what you didn’t notice was your boyfriend standing speechless in the doorway of the bathroom.
“did i do that?” he asked quietly and you span around to face him.
he looked like he was about to cry. his lips were pressed together into a thin line and his hands were shaking at his sides.
“Hoon, it’s fine. really.” you quickly pulled your tank top down and walked towards him but before you could take more than two steps, he reached out and lifted it up again.
“did i hurt you?”
“it doesn’t hurt-“
“yes, it does.” his voice shook and your heart sank.
you reached up and placed your hands on his shoulders. “i promise i’m okay.”
he peeled his gaze off the marks on your hips and looked down into your eyes. his were glossy and full of guilt. “i’m so sorry… i didn’t know-“
“it’s okay.” you smiled up at him softly before pulling him into a hug.
he wrapped his arms tightly around your waist, higher up than usual so he doesn’t hurt your bruises, and buried his face into the crook of your neck. “i didn’t mean to.”
“i know.” you whisper. one hand was rubbing up and down his back, and one was gently raking through his hair.
usernames in bold means for whatever reason i couldn’t tag them! lmk if you wanna be added or removed :)

𝄞: pictures of you by the cure
The sun glittered through the swaying willow tree, the spindly arms arching in gorgeous, bespoke spirals above the head. The scene was picturesque, sprawling green in all directions, blossoming botanicals clustering the field, and a dozen or so rows of perfectly dressed chairs.
Familiar faces from all the paths your life had taken looked back, real and genuine smiles beaming towards you, chins held high in appreciation.
At the other end of the grassy aisle, the figure of a suit clad man snapped his head up, his body overwhelmed with adoration as he watched you walk slowly.
With each step, your heart became fuller and fuller, your shy smile evolving into a wide grin as you finally let your eyes meet those soft chocolate orbs that never quite left your mind. Those eyes you see in your dreams and in almost every picture you take, those warm coffee-brown eyes that beheld you like you were an angel on earth, descending upon them like a blessing.
If there wasn’t a delicately designed bouquet between your hands, you may’ve covered the flush that was intruding on your cheeks from his adoring gaze. But alas, you reveal the effect Wonwoo has on you to your friends, your family and even the perpetrator, your fiancée, about to be husband.
As the pace slowed and you neared the altar, you felt tears begin to well up in your own eyes, the sight of your beautiful fiancée smiling so tenderly plucking your heartstrings like a harp. However, before he can reach out to take his big hand in your smaller one, you notice the small brown stool sat politely in the middle, wonwoo’s vintage film camera patiently waiting on the surface.
It all started the day that you met, seven years ago, on a snowy university quadrangle. The weather had gotten unforgivingly bitter in a matter of days, and it had most students grunting and groaning at the biting, icy wind — Including Wonwoo, who swore the cloudy sky would singlehandedly fail his photography assignment for him.
The once vivid green of the colossal oak trees was dimmed under grey skies, the camera capturing sullen shadows and blurry undertones instead of the striking light beams and glowing leaves. Wonwoo let his arms slack beside him as he looked up at the colourless clouds, irritation stiffening him grossly.
As if things couldn’t worsen, tiny specks of white began to tumble lightly from above, settling graciously between his feet. Great, now it’s snowing.
A loud and excitement-fuelled squeal pulled Wonwoo from his self-induced strop and forced him to snap his head to the source of the heinous invasion of noise in his ears. Between two of the ancient oaks, you were jumping with an untameable smile on your face, eyes glowing in delight as you flapped your arms gleefully in the snow.
Wonwoo froze, mouth slacking as he watched you — like a vision of pure euphoria, you squealed in the snow like it was the most mind-blowing thing to ever occur. And for some reason, he was enticed, heart pounding as he watched you closely. Like perfect wingmen, his feet led him to you, stopping a few feet away as you held your arm above your head, letting the cool snowflakes land on your palm.
‘Hi.’ Wonwoo said, mentally cringing at his lax greeting.
‘Oh, hey!’ You turned your head to face him briefly, unable to keep his eye contact as the flourishes of snow wisped past. ‘Isn’t this amazing!’
Wonwoo laughed lightly, his heart screeching within him as he continued to watch your fascination.
‘Do you think I can take a photo of you?’ He asks gingerly, worry consuming him. ‘Sorry, if that seems creepy, I study here, and I’m trying to complete a project about natural-occurring beauty.’
Maybe you were playing dumb, but you let him believe you thought he was talking about the snow.
‘Sure.’ You agree, ‘on one condition.’
Wonwoo furrowed his brows, letting his camera lower as you look at him closely. ‘Okay.’
‘If you let me take a picture of you too.’
Those first two photos developed in time for your first date. Two snowy pictures of wide smiles and anticipation — anticipation for something unknown, something unawaited and new, something that would unknowingly change both of your lives.
It was an icy evening in late November when Wonwoo showed up at your door with hand-wrapped flowers, offering you his arm to take you out on a first date. Between his hands were a bunch of gorgeous lilies, close to blooming, wrapped carefully in newspaper — which were delicately placed in a vase before he whisked you off to dinner.
Somehow, he’d located the most perfect and intimate restaurant within walking distance of your dorm. The abode was decorated in dark colours and lit dimly to foster closeness between its customers, tiny candlelights flickering on the varnished wooden tables, illuminating faces with golden warmth.
Wonwoo did everything right — took your coat, pulled out your chair, called you beautiful, tucked your hair behind your ear. And your heart felt like butterflies were gearing up to flutter it away.
‘I hate to be cliché.’ He speaks fondly, reaching beneath the table.
You hung your head in confusion as he manoeuvred himself back up. ‘What are you talking about, Wonwoo?’ You say with a questioning smile.
‘Can I take a photo of you?’
He materialises the same camera that captured your blissful snowy moment and places it on the table between you.
‘Well…’ You pretend to think, tapping your chin for exaggeration, Wonwoo’s soft laugh ringing from opposite you. ‘On one condition.’
‘Oh really?’ He plays into the joke, a smile bit into his cheeks as he pretends. Inside, his heart is practically singing, the sight of your eyes glowing under candlelight enough to almost render him speechless.
‘If you let me take a photo of you too.’
The second couple of pictures developed in time for Wonwoo to tack them to his wall. The photos under subdued light radiated warmth, from the shy smiles dancing on both of your faces to the subtle knowing looks you both possessed — this was meant to be.
On a grassy spring plain, Wonwoo presented a spread of your favourite foods, a soft plush blanket beneath your legs as you sat peacefully, letting the breeze tickle your cheeks lightly. Wonwoo was beside you, stealing sly glances at your side profile as the early-spring sun made your skin glow.
‘Hey,’ He said softly, making you turn and hum in response, leaning onto his shoulder on instinct, the closeness familiar over the months of developing feelings.
‘What’s up?’ You say as he wraps an arm around your waist, resting his head on yours comfortably. Throughout the months of dating, small touches had flowered slowly, shy pinky-holding evolving into strong arms wrapped around one another.
‘Want to be my girlfriend?’ Wonwoo asked not-so smoothly, letting the biting anxiety slip through his relaxed facade and muddle the beginning of his sentence.
‘Want to be your girlfriend?’ You repeat back to him, with a baited smile, turning to look at him. ‘Jeon Wonwoo, you can do better than that.’
‘Do you want to be my girlfriend?’ He rolls his eyes playfully and meets your gaze — your eyes are glistening and as soft as ever, love penetrating as you nod bashfully at him.
With a light touch, Wonwoo cups your cheek, running the pad of his thumb across your smooth skin as he drinks your pretty face in. Slowly, his plush lips meet yours, electricity jolting through you as they mould together like two pieces of the same heart. Heat rises through your body as he pecks your lips lovingly, continuing to memorise the texture of your skin beneath his fingertips.
‘Sorry to ruin the moment but,’ Wonwoo speaks, his breath still mingling with yours. ‘Can I take a photo of you?’
With a flushed complexion, you lean your forehead on his shoulder in embarrassment. ‘You know my condition, boyfriend.’
Over the years, Wonwoo had collected hundreds of these photos. Each in neat pairs, bright expressions of delight dancing on your faces, backgrounds differing from rural beauty to urban simplicity, some taken in extravagant cities across continents and some in your and Wonwoo’s bed, white covers concealing your naked figures.
The photographs were famous in your close circle, many of the most important people in your lives witnessing the innocent flash of the camera and the small giggle as you passed it between each other.
Photos from family holidays and photos from mundane work-from-home afternoons, photos from the day Wonwoo got down on one knee and photos from dates gone wrong. Every photo displays a precious memory that you both held close to your hearts.
As you behold the film camera between you both, the audience watching knowingly as Wonwoo leans down to pick it up, just like he did on your first date, and a small, joyful tear slips down your cheek.
‘You already know what I’m going to ask.’ He says quietly, the rows of friends in front of you silently listening along.
Without a word, you nod, a grateful smile on your features as he lifts his hand to wipe the tear from your cheek.
‘Can I take a picture of you?’ This time Wonwoo’s eyes are beginning to get glassy, the audience swooning calmly as they watch.
‘Of course you can,’ you answer with a sniffle, ‘on one condition.’
He nods, just as he has many times in the past, your hand meeting his on your cheek to intertwine your fingers.

“look at her jake, such a pretty mess for us already..” heeseung mumbles before pressing a soft kiss against your neck. his hands slid down your bare waist, knee in between your thighs and pressed against your soaked core, making you mewl against jake’s lips.
you then decide that shopping with these two will be your favorite part of the week from now on.

HOUSE RULES M. LIST | MAIN M. LIST | ASK
YOUR HEAT BURNS THROUGH YOU LIKE A LIVING THING, TURNING YOUR INSIDES INTO LIVING HELL. Your skin feels too tight, pulling at the edges and cleaning to the sheets beneath you, the sticky surface of your body covered in a thin sheen of perpetual sweat. The only source of relief is Junhui's callused hand moving down your side, his light touch grounding. You shiver as his fingers graze your ribs, your stomach, your thighs, each point of contact only ramping up the furnace under your skin.
You whimper, unable to stop the sound from crawling up the back of your throat. You squeeze your thighs together, the ache so intense that you feel like the room is spinning - or maybe it is, you can't be sure, though it doesn't seem entirely likely.
"I know," Junhui coos, squeezing your thigh a little. "I've got you, baby."
Junhui’s face is close to yours - close enough that you can count each one of his dark, silky eye lashes. He’s pretty like this, his blonde hair falling across his forehead, slightly damp from the shower he’d taken with you earlier that morning. Your eyes trace the careful curve of his lips, landing on your favorite mole just above his pink upper lip.
Junhui's scent wraps around you then, purposeful and warm to steady your pounding heart and elevated anxiety. He smells like cedar and the black tea he likes to drink in the morning, your brain fracturing a little through the haze of your heat at the familiarity of it.
The bed dips slightly and you glance toward the new weight, suddenly aware of Joshua. He sits with his legs folded beneath him, his dark eyes wide as saucers, bottom lip tucked between his teeth as his gaze darts between you and Junhui. He’s pretty even when he’s nervous, the softness of his face easing you with the sharpness of Junhui. His fingers twist in the sheets like he's unsure what to do with his hands, dark hair a little disheveled from running his hands through it too many times.
Junhui notices it too. Of course he does - he's an alpha. Though he's not the head alpha of this pack, there is very little that Junhui doesn't notice, and right now he's reaching for Joshua gently, an encouraging smile on his face.
"Shua," he murmurs. "Come here."
The beta only hesitates for a moment. You watch him with heavy eyes as he slides closer, the mattress shifting. It jostles you a little and you whine, but Junhui tuts at you gently, his other hand reaching to help Joshua settle near you. You immediately lean toward him, sliding your head across the bed to press it near his knee.
"She needs you," Junhui tells him. His hand restarts tracing patterns on your thigh and you nod, agreeing with him. You do need Joshua - desperately. "I'll show you, yeah?"
"I don't want to hurt her."
"You won't," Junhui assures him. "Like this."
Junhui slides his hand from your leg back up your body until he's cupping the back of your neck, his thumb brushing the sensitive skin of your scent gland. You shudder, feeling your heart flutter as your eyes go unfocused for a second. For a moment, all you can sense is Junhui's thumb against you, not quite scenting you but enough contact to make you press your forehead to Joshua's knee, panting.
"Touch her like this on the other side," Junhui murmurs. "She likes a thumb on her scent gland. You don't have to press. Just put some light pressure."
Joshua follows Junhui's lead, reading a hand to cup the back of your neck and tilt your head up. You look up at him, the light coming in from the window blinding you for a second until his face swims into focus. Joshua is pretty, the slope of his nose perfect and his full lips curling into a smile as his thumb swipes back and forth against your scent gland, making you trill.
It feels good, cedar and juniper twisting together as they settle on either side of you, the weight of them on the mattress making you sink further, their knees brushing your sides. You turn toward Joshua, seeking the calm balance of his cool palm and juniper scent while Junhui's warm cedar presses in.
"You're so warm," Joshua whispers.
"Heat," you croak. "Very hot."
Junhui chuckles. "Everything will be more intense for her right now." His fingers leave your neck to card through your hair, his nails scratching bluntly against your scalp. You melt into it with a soft sound and Joshua smiles down at you. "See? She reacts well. She'll tell you what she needs."
"Touch me," you beg, looking at Joshua through your lashes. "Please."
Joshua complies, his hand sliding down your arm slowly. The slow drag of his fingers over your skin feels like heaven, your eyes rolling back as you lose yourself to the touch. You feel yourself melt into the bed, his touch growing more confident until he's lacing his fingers with yours. You immediately give them a squeeze and he squeezes back, and when you glance at him again, you see the way he's softened a little, happy to be close to you.
"Kiss her," Junhui hums. "She likes that."
Joshua glances down at you and you nod eagerly, sliding up the bed a little to give him room. Hand still wrapped in yours, he leans down to brush his lips against yours. They're soft and questioning at first, barely more than a brush of lips until you make a desperate sound against him and surge forward, kissing him properly.
He complies, deepening the kiss as he lets go of your hand to cradle your head, angling your face toward him. His tongue presses the seam of your lips and you open up for him immediately, the warmth of his mouth and tongue inviting. He tastes like honey and something else sweet and addicting, your own hands coming up to pull him closer.
Kissing Joshua is different from kissing Junhui. Despite Junhui's steady and calm nature, he can be demanding, his kisses severe and consuming. This isn't that. This a languid press of mouths, the soft sweeping of Joshua's tongue along the ridge of your teeth, the bumping of his nose into yours until he's pulling away to catch his breath.
"Perfect," Junhui says quietly. "See how much she needs you?"
Joshua nods, resting his forehead against yours. His pupils are blown wide, nearly swallowing the warm brown of his irises. His lips are pretty and pink, a little swollen from kissing you and you smile, leaning forward to steal another kiss, nipping his bottom lip gently. He laughs into your mouth, letting you steal as much of him as you want, your hunger insatiable.
When you pull back again, his eyes are still closed, his breathing heavier. "Tell me what to do, baby. What do you want?"
The words get stuck in your throat. Cedar and juniper clash in your thoughts, your body locked in the heat so fully that Joshua's words turn to a tangled mess when you try to process them, a frustrated sound working its way up your throat.
"Touch her," Junhui answers for you, sensing the frustration. "Sometimes she struggles to communicate. Just go with the flow and don't worry about being wrong. Your instincts know what to do."
Nodding, Joshua slides his hand from your face down your neck, his fingers lingering over the rapid flutter of your pulse before he drags them to your collarbone, lightly tracing the indents of Soonyoung's teeth from the night before. You arch into his touch, chasing it - craving it - and he makes a small sound of surprise, like he can't believe you need him this much.
"Good." Junhui's hand settles on your waist, keeping you anchored to the bed. "See how she responds? Keep doing."
Joshua listens to the alpha, his touch growing bolder. He leans down and kisses you again, deeper and hungrier and you let it consume you. His hand traces the curves of your body, his fingers curling slightly to drag the blunt edge of his nails down your hips. You moan into his mouth and he moans back, the sound of his despair echoed so acutely that it makes your thoughts turn cottony and thick, sticking together as you shiver.
"Please," you beg, your voice wrecked. "Please."
"Easy, baby," Junhui soothes, bending down to kiss your temple. His own hand slides down to your thigh where he grips you and opens you up, cool air hitting your soaked cunt. "Shua's going to take care of you. Aren't you Shua?"
"Yes," Joshua says, and his voice has dropped, gone rough around the edges in a way you've never heard before.
He kisses down your jaw and your throat, his lips soft, tongue darting out to taste you. You squirm but Junhui keeps you pinned, his hand on your hip and tight as Joshua's mouth finds the sensitive spot where your neck meets your shoulder. He runs the flat of his tongue across the delicate skin there and you cry out as Junhui chuckles. You feel Joshua grin against your skin as he lingers there, sucking at your neck gently, the sensation shooting right through you and turning the pit of your stomach molten.
"Perfect," Junhui murmurs. He lifts the hand off your hip to press Joshua's shoulder. "Lower."
Joshua works his way down your body with his lips, tongue and teeth, each press of his mouth both a burn and balm. His mouth is hot against your sternum, your ribs, the soft skin of your stomach, each kiss like a brand. He's careful as he shifts down the bed and you feel your stomach flip when Junhui pries your legs wider while Joshua slides to his knees at the edge of the bed.
Junhui follows him down, moving to kneel behind Joshua. He wraps himself around Joshua's back, chest pressed close enough that he can hook his chin over Joshua's shoulder so he can murmur directly into the beta's ear. You can see the way Joshua relaxes slightly into Junhui's presence, leaning back into the alpha, turning to press his forehead against Junhui's neck briefly as he breathes him in.
"Start slow," Junhui murmurs, lips dragging against the shell of Joshua's ear. You stare at them between your legs, watching as Junhui's eyes drag up to yours, pupils blown and hungry. He reaches around Joshua, caging him in as he places his hands on your knees, spreading you wider. "She's sensitive, so anything you do will feel overwhelming. I recommend soft licks."
Nodding, Joshua leans forward, his breath ghosting across your inner thigh as he settles close. Your thighs twitch but his grip is firm, keeping you open for Joshua's hungry gaze.
You forget how to breathe, watching as your heart flutters like a humming bird trapped in a cage. Joshua follows Junhui's instructions exactly, dragging his tongue slowly and deliberately through your sticky folds. The sensation punches right through you, your back arching off the bed as a broken sound escapes you, voice cracking. Junhui's hands tighten on our knees, keeping you in place as Joshua's tongue circles your swollen clit.
"Take your time." Junhui nips Joshua's ear playfully and the beta moans, the sound vibrating through you. You twist your hips, the sensation overwhelming. "Hmm. She liked that."
Joshua nods, humming again. Your lashes flutter, heading pushing back into the mattress as his tongue works in long, slow strokes, occasionally using the tip of his tongue to circle your clit with just enough pressure to make you gasp before he dips back down to tease your aching hole. It makes the heat in your blood sing, his mouth soft and warm and wet and fuck.
"Suck gently," Junhui recommends. "That makes her lose it."
"Yeah?" Joshua asks, panting as he pulls away and looks up at you. His eyes are completely blown, lips glossy with your slick. He looks debauched, so different from the polished beta who likes to make you scones on Sundays. "Let me try."
Joshua's lips close around your clit and he sucks gently. The sensation is so intense you nearly sob, your hands coming up to hide your face as your entire body goes tight. He smiles against you, laughing a little as he fastens his mouth to your pussy, sucking in gentle tugs that make your entire bed spin on its axis while Junhui's thumbs stroke small circles on the inside of your knees.
"You're doing so good," Junhui whispers. "I bet she feels so good."
Joshua pulls back just enough to look up at you, his eyes dark and hazy, his lips and chin glistening. The sight of him on his knees with Junhui wrapped around him makes something in your chest crack open, your heart stopping and starting all over again as Joshua smirks and dives back in, confident and hungry.
"Tastes so fucking good," he mumbles, nose bumping your clit. "Could do this all the time."
"Let me taste," Junhui says and leans over Joshua's shoulder.
Joshua turns to face Junhui, letting the alpha steal a wet kiss that's all tongue. You stare, watching as Joshua submits easily to Junhui as the alpha sucks the taste of you right off Joshua's tongue. When they pull apart, Joshua is a little breathless as Junhui grins and glances at you, tongue swiping across the bottom of his lip.
"Delicious."
Junhui pushes Joshua's head forward then and the beta follows right back to your pussy, his tongue finding a rhythm that is slow and devastating, swapping back and forth between broad strokes and focused attention on your clit as he traces patterns that make you writhe.
You feel Joshua's hand slide up your thigh, guided by Junhui's grip on his wrist as he tentatively presses a finger into your wet heat. You gasp, feeling the stretch combined with the flutter of his tongue stealing the breath from your lungs. He curls his finger exactly as Junhui instructs, pressing against your front wall so that you see stars, cursing up at the ceiling as he drags you toward an orgasm.
His tongue works your clit in steady, rhythmic circles while his finger moves inside you, and the dual sensation builds and builds until you're lost in it, suspended in the feeling of an orgasm that waits and waits and waits until it finally breaks and rushes in.
You come hard, your pleasure suddenly having no start or end but a looping, endless twitching of thighs and clenching walls. You grit your teeth, unable to breathe for a few seconds until you finally gasp for air, body loosening slightly. Joshua's mouth is still on you but it's soft now, his tongue soothing and avoiding your clit, finger pressed deep as he sucks at you messily, making little sounds of enjoyment as he does.
"She's so fucking pretty when she comes," Junhui groans. "Fuck."
Joshua pulls back slowly, his lips and chin glistening, eyes dark and hazy as he looks up at you. His lips curl upward, pupils dilated as he presses slick-wet kisses to the sides of your thighs, leaving shiny marks as he goes. Junhui's hands leave your knees, your legs trembling a little as you let them fall open, your muscles turning to jelly.
Junhui reaches for Joshua. "Come here."
Joshua rises on shaky knees and Junhu catches him before he loses his balance, cupping the back of his neck to pull him to his feet and into a kiss. It's slow and deep, and you watch with your heart beating and fingers twisting into the sheets as Junhui gets a taste of you from Joshua's lips before pulling back. He wipes his thumb across Joshua's bottom lip and pops it into his mouth, humming.
"Tastes good." Junhui looks at you and his gaze darkens. "She needs more of you, Shua."
Joshua nods. "I want to give more."
"Slow," Junhui says, dropping his hands to the hem of Joshua's shirt to pull it over his head. The beta shivers and nods, a little dazed as Junhui's nibble fingers pull at the strings on Joshua's sweatpants next. "Slow and deep. She likes hard and fast the first day of heat - that's what Soonyoung took care of last night. Today we just need her to feel it."
Joshua nods, kicking off his sweatpants to crawl onto the bed, shuffling on his knees. You mouth waters at the sight of him, all tan and smooth from summer days spent at the pool, broad at the shoulder and perfectly tapered in the waist. His cock is heavy, the tip swollen with need as he makes a sound in the back of his throat when you reach for him.
He lets you grab his hands, pulling him down for a kiss that tastes like you. You don't mind, sliding your hands through his sweaty hair, nails dragging down the nape of his neck as he hums, pleased. The smell of him calms you down, pheromones soothing and making you sigh into the kiss, melting back into a state of calm as he settles between your legs.
Junhui shifts on the bed then, momentarily distracting you as you break away from Joshua's kiss. Junhui is kneeling on the bed, blonde hair disheveled in the low light. He's stripped down to his sweats, the hard planes of his stomach twitching as he crawls over, his dark eyes fixated on you. His shoulders are just as broad as the beta between your legs, but there's a predatory grace to the way that Junhui moves that makes him sharper.
Joshua makes room for him, sitting up on his knees as he pries you open further at the knees, your thighs stretching in protest. Cool air hits your cunt and you whine, but Joshua shuts you up as he rubs the fat head of his cock against your slick entrance, pressing just enough to stretch you but not enough to slide past. You let out a pathetic noise and he grins until Junhui growls.
"Don't tease her," the alpha warns.
Joshua goes pink in the cheeks, nodding. "Sorry."
Junhui huffs, bending down to cup your face and turn you toward him for a soft kiss. You preen under his affection, leaning toward him to kiss him back eagerly. He laughs, the sound buzzing through your lips and making your head spin as his tongue slides against yours just as Joshua grips your hips and presses his cock into your heat.
It's slow, but it steals your breath away anyway. You gasp against Junhui's mouth, breaking the kiss to glance at where Joshua is focused on sliding home, head ducked down to watch his cock disappear inside of you, his shoulders slick with sweat.
"Fuck," you hiss and Junhui smiles, placing wet kisses against your temple, teeth scraping lightly. "Feels so fucking good."
"Mhmm," Junhui agrees. His lips move to your jaw, sucking the skin there lightly before he licks down to your throat, tongue dancing around your scent gland. You go blank for a minute, vision whiting out until Joshua is pressed in to the hilt. "You're doing so good, baby. So perfect for Shua."
Joshua trembles slightly, tension thrumming through him as he fights to control himself. Where an alpha might start slamming into you, Joshua waits, the stretch and pressure of him pressing against your walls so good that you clench around him on instinct, making him let out a broken laugh.
"So tight, baby," he gasps. "So good."
Junhui hums in agreement, his kisses trailing to your collarbones. "Move now. Long, deep strokes."
Joshua listens, withdrawing slowly so that the drag of him against your walls makes you cry out. He pushes in just as deliberately, snapping his hips so the stroke is deep. It punches the breath from your lungs and you grab onto Junhui, who doesn't mind, letting you dig your nails into his arms and hands as he lavishes attention to the swells of your chest.
The rhythm Joshua sets is torturous, each stroke deep and measured that forces you to feel every inch of him, hitting that spot inside of you that has you mumbling his name, head falling to the side while your legs lock around his hip, keeping him going.
Junhui's hands on your body makes the pleasure spike, his palms sliding up your ribs, thumbs brushing the underside of your breasts before cupping them gently, thumbs flicking over your nipples. You arch into his touch, moaning brokenly, overwhelmed by the feeling of both of them, their skin warm and scents tangled.
Long gone is the ache in your stomach, replaced only by swelling heat and pressure. Long gone is the too-tight skin and the feverish need to be touched, replaced by Junhui's hands and his warm mouth closing around a nipple, sucking and flicking with his tongue until you're nearly sobbing, hands tangling in his damp hair.
"So pretty," he mumbles against your chest. "Look at you taking Joshua so well. Does it feel good, baby? Does he fill you up the way you need/"
"Yes," you whine. "Yes, yes, yes, yes."
Joshua's pace stays steady and unhurried, each thrust making you tighten around him. You can feel how wet you are, slick dripping down the curve of your ass as he picks up his pace a little, feeling the way your orgasm is building, knowing you need to reach it. He grinds into you at the end of each stroke, hitting it just right that your vision starts to blur.
Junhui kisses up your chest, along your throat, finding your mouth again. He kisses you like he has all the time in the world, tongue sliding against yours in a lazy rhythm that mirrors Joshua's strokes. Being between them is overwhelming - Junhui's mouth on yours, his hands on your skin, Joshua buried deep inside you, his hands gripping your waist.
"Shua." Joshua looks up, his hair sticking to his forehead as Junhui leans toward him. "Come here."
Joshua leans forward, still moving inside you, and Junhui catches him in a kiss. You watch through hazy eyes as they kiss above you, Junhui's hand cupping Joshua's jaw, guiding him. The sight of it makes you clench around Joshua and he moans into Junhui's mouth, making the alpha grin.
"She likes to watch," Junhui pants against Joshua's mouth. "Likes knowing how everyone belongs to one another." Junhui's hand slides down Joshua's chest to his hips where he squeezes. "Angle up. She needs it right here."
Joshua adjusts, his hands sliding under your thighs to lift them higher, and when he pushes in again the angle is devastating. He hits that spot inside you dead-on and you nearly scream, your whole body arching up off the bed.
"Dead on," Junhui says with a grin. He leans down again, his mouth finding your ear. "Feel that, baby? Feel how deep he is? He's going to take such good care of you. Going to fuck you slow and perfect until you come so hard."
"You're so wet," Joshua groans, his voice strained. "Fuck I don't know how to last."
"That's the heat," Junhui murmurs against your throat. "You can pick up pace. She's close. She's so good for you, yeah? Pretty little omega."
"Fuck yeah."
The praise makes you whimper, makes fresh slickness coat Joshua's cock in response, their approval making your body sing. Junhui kisses you again, deep and consuming, and you lose yourself in it until you feel Junhui's hands slide down between where Joshua fucks you, his fingers finding your clit. His touch is light, but combined with Joshua's relentless pace, it's enough to tilt you over.
Your orgasm hits you hard and you come with a strangled noise, body jerking upward as Junhui holds you down. Your hand clutch at Junhui's shoulders, nails digging into his skin and sliding down his arms. He doesn't mind, letting out a pleased sound as he and Joshua work you through your orgasm in tandem.
Joshua groans above you, his rhythm faltering as you clench around him. "Oh fuck- I can't-"
"Come for her," Junhui says softly, and it's permission and command all at once.
Joshua's hips stutter forward one more time, burying himself as deep as he can go, and then he's coming with a broken moan. You feel the pulse of him inside you, the warmth flooding your core, and it draws another aftershock from your own orgasm. His whole body trembles, his hands gripping your hips hard enough to bruise, and the sounds he makes send you soaring, your omega preening at the way your beta loses control for you.
The three of you collapse together in a tangle of limbs and sweat-slick skin, Joshua slumping forward and catching himself on his forearms to avoid crushing you, his face buried in the crook of your neck. His breath comes in hot, ragged pants against your throat as Junhui shifts beside you, one arm sliding you to the side so Joshua can pull out and collapse next to you.
Joshua stays glued to your side, his legs tangled with yours as your joint fluids drip down your thigh. You ignore it, knowing Junhui will deal with it later like he's supposed to. For now, Junhui flops down next to you so you're pinned between them, and reaches over to run his hand down the back of Joshua's neck.
You turn your head to nuzzle into Junhui's chest, breathing him in, while Joshua presses soft kisses to your shoulder. Your heat has quieted to a low simmer, temporarily sated, and in its absence you feel the bone-deep exhaustion and the overwhelming desire to sleep right here between the two of them.
"You did good," Junhui tells Joshua, voice rough.
You feel Joshua's smile against your shoulder. "She's incredible. Both of you."
Turning to face him, you reach up to thread your fingers through his hair, tugging him down for a slow, sweet kiss. When you pull back, Junhui is watching you both with dark, intent eyes. Something shifts in the air - a change in the sharpness to his scent and face that makes your pulse quicken.
Junhui leans in, his hand sliding into your hair to angle your face toward him, and when he kisses you, it's deep and possessive, his tongue claiming as he pulls away with a sharp bite to your lower lip that makes you whimper.

KIM MINGYU COULD VERY WELL BE THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE.
Sweet, thoughtful, and delicate. Fragile, even: in ego, in sex, in love.
Sometimes, you think he’s made for you. Like Eve was made for Adam, by the rib. Sometimes you feel an ache in your left side, and you wonder if it’s the lack of Mingyu’s lingering presence – only to see him a week later, shown up to your front door with a beautiful bouquet and a bottle of wine.
Kim Mingyu is the petals of every flower in all the bouquets he’s ever given you. Velvety soft, perfectly cared for and beautiful.
But just as he is all those things – he is your Achilles’ heel. You can never say no to Kim Mingyu, can never admit that he something more to you than you care to acknowledge beyond just that – something more.
And just as easily as those flowers of yours were picked, they were tossed. Once they died, they served no value. You’d watch the petals fall onto your desk for a while, dried and crisp; before inevitably swiping them into the trash can and dumping the dirty water into the sink. The vase waited, empty (like you,) to be refilled once Mingyu swung by for his bi-monthly fix.
It wasn’t always like this.
You used to save some of the petals, some of the flowers themselves. Press them in wax paper between heavy books and forget about them until you read the books again. You’d toy with the dried petals, before they eventually became littered around your apartment – in the form of coasters, framed on the walls, even a pair of earrings you once made at a crafts class.
Because in the beginning, in the very beginning – Mingyu was just your friend.
He was your very nice, very attentive friend that brought you gorgeous bouquets from his florist friend’s shop, always picked out by Mingyu himself – down to the colorful paper wrapping and satin bow. You’d rarely see him more than once or twice a month as it was, because Mingyu is a very busy man – so the flowers were always accompanied with an apologetic smile and a quick kiss to your cheek. You’d make dinner together, or he’d cook for the two of you; his presence warm and inviting even in your own home.
He’d serve you a glass of wine or three, plate your dinner like you’re at a nice restaurant and hand you extra silverware in case one of you fell victim to his butterfingers – and he knew your apartment like the back of his hand. He knew you like the back of his hand.
Then, you kissed.
One time. By complete and utter accident.
You had moved into his typical cheek kiss in greeting, the both of you springing away almost immediately when you felt each other’s lips. You both spewed apologies like geysers, talking over one another before you both laughed at the ridiculousness of it all.
“No more kisses, got it. Could’ve said something earlier, you know.” He joked, but finally greeted you with a warm hug paired with a mumbled it’s so nice to see you that made your stomach flutter for the first time ever. You were wide eyed as you allowed yourself to be enveloped in the warmth of his body, in the soft feeling of his cashmere sweater that you’d given him for his birthday many moons ago.
Unfortunately, the attempt to make dinner together was awkward. You were both anxiously trying to keep things level, trying to crack jokes and talk about your lives outside of each other when you just sighed; your hands on your hips as you glanced at him in your pink apron that was much too small.
And he kissed you – this time, with purpose. He held your face gently between his hands, your own fisting the stupidly expensive cashmere sweater that left you without eggs and bread that month.
Dinner wasn’t homemade, after all. He’d turned the stove off in your frenzy to pull his belt off, his hands holding you flush to him as he led you both to your bedroom – where he’d shown you exactly why his ex-girlfriend can’t leave him alone, and why your ex-boyfriend constantly felt inferior to him. He made it clear he wanted you, even if it was just for the night – and he wasn’t about to fuck up the only potential chance he’d gotten.
You both fell asleep before either of you could say anything about the missed dinner, and the morning after was full of shy stares and a silent agreement – after you asked him if he’d even wanted to be your friend, if this was his plan all along. He admitted honestly that he’d never anticipated something like this and he never secretly wanted you, either – that he’d been your friend because he loves you, because you’re sweet and funny, because you’re you.
Twice a month. Dinner. Sex. Repeat. Just to get the taste of each other off your tongues, to fill the void of feeling someone next to you while you’re sleeping.
Eventually, you realized that things between you and Mingyu had grown to be just that – a fix. A bi-monthly, sometimes tri-monthly, fix; where he came to your apartment and still yielded those beautiful flowers. He’d gotten more into making dinner on his own, and you’d choose somethnig to watch – and you’d spend an hour or so filling each other in about your time apart over the warm meal and some stupid movie, if not Gilmore Girls.
Until one of you leans in for the first kiss of the tumble, and the illusion of romance shatters at your fingertips.
Not because Mingyu isn’t romantic; if anything, the guy could drown you in romance. In soft touches, in mood lighting, in catering to your every need while still meeting his own with little intereference. He’s kind and gentle, with an edge that makes your skin prickle when he works you over with his tongue between your thighs after peeling your clothes off with needy hands. He’s a bitch when his teeth nip at the skin of your thighs, his fingers digging into the meat of them like he’s scared you’ll disappear if he makes the wrong move; and you can feel the way he smiles against you as he brings you to the first orgasm of the night.
He’s yours when he kisses you like you mean everything to him, when he holds your knees to your chest while you cry on his cock. He’s yours when he holds you close, massaging your hips and kissing the expanse of your bare shoulders.
And you are his.
You are absolutely, irrevocably his when he slips inside you for the second time that night – his teeth sinking lightly into your shoulder at how sensitive he is but he loves the way you feel. Shuddered whimpers will fill the room, murmurs of missing you when he’s gone as he nibbles on your earlobe; he leaves a mess between your thighs, snugly wrapped in your walls as you both drift to sleep.
Every. Single. Time.
Maybe it’s not all that romantic.
Maybe it’s just...sex. Casual sex that convinces you it’s more the moment you press your lips to his because you’re so certain Heaven is a place on Earth – and it’s in Kim Mingyu’s arms.
That’s where it all ends, anyway. He’s gone in the morning without much conversation; you’ll shower together like real couples do and he’s started keeping a few changes of clothes in your apartment. You’ll brush you teeth together like real couples do; he’ll even rub lotion on your back before kissing the back of your neck and asking if you want breakfast. If you say no, he leaves.
If you say yes...he’ll make breakfast, an entire spread. He’ll make coffee, and he’ll sit right next to you in the cute breakfast nook that sold you on your apartment three years ago – right after you’d broken up with that ex-boyfriend that never liked Mingyu. For who he was, what he stood for or what he could provide...you weren’t all that sure.
But you don’t really care, either.
Mingyu helped decorate your apartment. He helped you make it yours and even slept on the floor of your bedroom with you when you were too scared to be alone on the first night. He didn’t complain about his very obviously sore neck the next morning, only giving you a quick hug goodbye as he left to his apartment six blocks away for a shower – and returning within two hours to help you paint your bathroom.
They say that friends to lovers is the best way to go. Friends that know each other’s coffee orders by heart, turning into lovers that deliver said coffee with a kiss on the lips. Friends that help each other pick an outfit for a night out, becoming lovers who take said outfit off at the end of the night with their lips running down each other’s shoulders and other unnamed places.
Lovers, who mean it more than words can explain, and the warmth of a fire could never rival the true heat behind it – the three little words that linger on your tongue.
That stupid, stupid I love you.
But you are you, and Mingyu is...well, he’s Mingyu.
You’re not sure what you are. You’re certainly not friends, but you’re not lovers...you’re just Y/N and Mingyu, in limbo. No label, no questions and consequently, no answers.
And you want an answer. You want to know what it’s like for him to hold you closer when you move away to slip out of your bed in the morning. You want to know what it’s like for him to flip you onto your back and kiss you despite the morning breath, what it’s like to be Mingyu’s, eternally, and never have a way out.
But...you are you.
And you know better.
IT’S WEDNESDAY NIGHT WHEN YOUR PHONE PINGS ACROSS APARTMENT.
You move out of the kitchen, making your way to it and grabbing it off the coffee table before flopping onto your couch.
NEW! (3) Messages From: Mingyu ♡
[4:21 PM] hey, y/n
[4:21 PM] just a quick question, are you free this friday?
[4:21 PM] no pressure 💘
You’re aptly draped across the couch for a distressed sigh as you read the messages. You throw your arm over your eyes, your heart beating just a little faster – there's a pot of stew heating up on the stove, and the whole house smells delicious as you close your eyes, knowing exactly how this could go.
He’ll show up at your doorstep, ten minutes before he said he’d be there. He’ll be wearing one of his nice shirts – maybe it’ll be that baby blue one that you love – maybe it’ll be the dark red that he always tucks neatly into slacks. Maybe he’ll be dressed down, something you don’t to see all that often – sweatpants and a zip-up hoodie, but he’ll still be carrying that stupidly large bouquet of flowers and a bottle of your favorite wine. He’ll kiss you hello again, but it won’t be on your cheek – no, he’ll kiss your lips.
He’ll kiss your lips and hold your waist gently, pulling you into him. He’ll nip at your lower lip, inching his way into the apartment and shutting the door with his foot before setting the flowers down on the foyer table and pulling away. He’ll say it’s nice to see you, that he missed you, that he wants to hear about your day before kissing you breathless.
Because he’s Mingyu.
“And I’ll fall for it every damn time,” you sigh, staring at the screen. Your fingers move quickly, typing a singular ‘sure’, only to see his read receipt pop up before you can even sit up. Like he’s waiting for you to answer – sat at his desk, the one that’s shoved in the corner of his office and way too cramped for a guy his size. The one that’s piled high with confidential documents, that he eats his lunch at that he packs himself early in the mornings.
The one he’s sent you a few suggestive pieces of media from, the image of his silver watch moving up and down your screen still burned into your mind.

[4:26 PM] hm, don’t know if i liked the way you answered that.
[4:26 PM] are you okay?
Are you?
You don’t get much of a chance to reply before he’s calling you. You quickly decline it, texting back with the excuse that you’re in the shower.
NEW! (2) Messages from: Mingyu ♡
[4:27 PM] you’re literally laying on your couch. you don’t shower until six.
[4:28 PM] this is your ‘lazy girl’ time, you’ve told me. i know.
“Curse your memory, Kim Mingyu,” you grumble, fumbling around to call him on Facetime. He picks up on the second ring, putting his AirPod in – but he’s not dressed the way he usually is after work. Or rather, during: he’s still got thirty minutes to his workday.
But you’re not complaining at the sleeveless white shirt, feeling your cheeks hot as he raises a brow at you through the screen.
“What are you doing?” You prop yourself up on a throw pillow, only for Mingyu to flip the camera and show the inside of your favorite grocery store, “what are you doing there? It’s Wednesday, you should be at work.”
“And you should tell me what’s got you so pouty.” He says pointedly, propping you up in the cart as he grabbed a bag for tomatoes. You’re silent as you watch him pick them out carefully, gentle fingers you miss wrapped around your throat squeezing the fruit softly. You blink as the thought leaves your mind, your mouth dry as you shake it off while he ties the plastic bag expertly.
“So? What’s got you so iffy?”
“Nothing.”
“You’re a horrible liar.”
Mingyu gives you a stern look as he hunches over the cart, pursing his lips as his eyes dart around the store for the next item to take him. Maybe peppers. Maybe a tub of soybean paste.
Maybe someone else to fill his bed, his heart. His stomach, with delicious meals he never lets you cook for him anymore because, in his words – you're tired. You work so hard and you’ve had a long day, sweetheart. Just sit on the island and keep me company.
“Need an answer sooner rather than later, sweetheart.” His voice is gentle as he grabs your attention again, only making you scoff as you wave him off with your hand.
“Seriously, I’m fine.”
“I dunno. First, you give me a one-word answer. Never in our six-year friendship have you responded to me that way, even when you’re in a bad mood.”
You tongue your cheek as he stops the cart in the snack aisle, your eyes floating immediately to the cinnamon biscuits right next to his head. He reaches for them, tossing the box into his cart without a second thought before reading the ingredients on a box of almond cookies, “next, you lie to me. A bold-faced lie, and to my face, at that.”
“I lied to your phone screen, dramatic ass.” You mutter, watching the way his fingers drum against the yellow box. He’s wearing the ring you’d given him for Christmas last year, the white gold snug on his thumb as he hums. He puts the box back, grabbing another with a click of his tongue.
“That I pay the bill on, mind you. So, you’re wasting time and money instead of just telling me what your deal is.”
“There is no deal, Mingyu. I’m not BOGO.” You snort, shifting on your couch and resting your arm under your head. He looks at the phone, tossing the cookies into his cart, “I should be glad, BOGO of you would kill me. You’re more like buy one, get one half off.”
“I think I’m more of a buy-two, get one free.”
“That’s even worse. One of you is more than enough. And that’s coming from me, someone who gets all of you regularly and happily, at that.”
“‘All of me’ is a technicality.” You roll your eyes, only watching the tips of his ears turn pink as he analyzes yet another box. Crackers this time, cheddar ones. Not your favorite, and infinitely inferior to the Parmesan ones.
“Be realistic, there’s no one but me. You’re just for me.” He murmurs, but the microphone catches it anyway. You tongue your cheek as he puts the box back, instead grabbing the Parmesan ones and throwing them in the cart. Your cheeks heat slightly as he nibbles on his lip, likely deep in thought as he looks over his cart.
“Even if that’s true, you could still be nice to me.”
“I’m so nice to you! I make you dinner, I buy you flowers, and I check in with you regularly. I get you gifts, I fixed your leaky faucet, and I rewired your entire gaming system after you moved into your apartment and didn’t want to figure it out. I’m the nicest guy ever, especially to you.” He huffs, and you let out a chuckle that makes his lips twitch. He masks it by sucking his teeth, and you shrug with an amused look on your face.
“You cook me dinner because you want to, you buy me flowers because you feel guilty and you check in with me because your job keeps you from actually seeing me more than once or twice a month. You get me gifts to make up for the fact that you’re not around as often, you fixed my leaky faucet because I practically begged you to, and you rewired my gaming system because you and Wonwoo wanted to play GTA for six hours.” You point your finger at him, watching the way he nods before picking up his phone. The camera pauses, the sound of Left Right by XG playing in the store the only sound coming from his end.
NEW! Message from: Mingyu ♡
[5:10 PM] i also go down on you because i want to, and i fuck you because i want to. but i don’t hear you complaining about that, hm?
“Because I want it, too.” You ignore the heart surging on your cheeks as you watch the message bubble pop up again.
NEW! Message from: Mingyu ♡
[5:11 PM] then be nice to me before i stop doing that for us, pillow princess.
“I am not a pillow princess! You just never let me do anything!”
The camera unpauses, showing Mingyu rolling his eyes and feigning disinterest before he sets the phone back down, “tell me what’s up or I’m coming over impromptu. I won’t give you time to tidy up, either.”
“You wouldn’t do that; you probably have a nice steak in your basket. You wanna go home and cook it and text me all about how I’m missing out because I live six blocks away and won’t walk to your place because those heels I wear make me too tired.” You snicker, watching the way he mimics you and moves his hand in a talking motion. You only laugh harder, “Mingyu!”
“Little louder, sweetheart. The neigbors know my name, anyway.”
“Kim Mingyu, I am a lady.”
“A loud one,” he snorts, sucking his teeth as he makes his way down the liquor aisle. “Are you free on Friday or not? Enthusiastically free, happy-to-see-your-Mingyu free. Not that sure shit, have some respect.”
“My Mingyu?” You smirk, but it’s a front. Your stomach is fluttering like crazy and you watch the way he bites back his smile to raise a brow at you.
“You know any other Mingyus?”
“Park Mingyu from the finance team that has had the hots for me since before you moved to the city.”
“He doesn’t count, he’s in finance. You’d get bored in two days.” He rolls his eyes again, “yes or no, sweetheart? My schedule fills up fast and I’m actively trying to get you in.”
“More like you’re trying to get in me.”
“That too, but all I’m hearing right now is that you hate me. That’s not all I have you around for, you know.”
You roll your eyes, sighing. He’s raking his eyes over you through the camera, grabbing a bottle of wine off the shelf as if it’s muscle memory. The label reads EISA Cabernet – your favorite. Particularly, when he makes you a thick steak with scalloped potatoes and asparagus that almost guarantees you fuck him within an inch of his life.
And he never complains.
“What’s wrong with you?”
“Nothing, Gyu. I promise.”
He crosses his arms, “I don’t believe you.”
“Then don’t.”
“You hate me.”
“Sometimes, when you make my steak too rare or you pull out.”
“Haha, so funny.” He sticks his tongue out at you, and you can tell by the signs on the ceiling that he’s moving to the checkout line. “You’re really not gonna tell me what’s up with you?”
“What do you want me to say, Mingyu? That I’m in distress? That I’m having a bad day?” You joke, before pouting exaggeratedly, “oh, please, Mingyu. I’ve had such a long, lonely day. Come over, I need you.”
“Stop that.” He huffs, crossing his arms as he leans on the cart. You laugh again, running your hand through your hair as you feel his eyes trailing you. You raise a brow as his eyes stop on your chest, and you dramatically cover the bit of cleavage your V-neck sweater shows. He scoffs, tonguing his cheek as he gets a register, carefully parking the cart. “Tilt the camera to your face, I don’t need strangers seeing your whole chest.”
“It’s not even my chest, dipshit. It’s my necklace at best.”
“Necklace I gave you.”
“Never pegged you to be a jealous, possessive man, Mr. Kim.”
“You don’t know a lot of things about me,” he shrugs, and you stick your tongue out at him as he scans his things. He shakes his head as you watch him, your eyes shamelessly trained on his arms as he moves about, before he snaps his fingers in front of the camera, “must you eye fuck me like that?”
“Listen, friends can admire one another’s beauty. That’s part of it.”
“Sure, sweetheart. Friends also tell each other what’s bothering them, but I guess we’re not all that of friends, hm?”
The double entendre makes you scoff as he swipes his card, his receipt printing loudly as he makes faces at you. You don’t speak as he takes the receipt and tucks it into his pocket, listening to him sweetly thank the aunties at the exit as he leaves with his cart. He whistles, “so? What’s wrong with you?”
You don’t reply, simply turning onto your belly and resting your cheek against the heel of your palm. You prop your phone up against the armrest of your couch, making a show of pulling your sweater down enough that it shows the white lace of your bra.
“Tease.” He chides as he pops the trunk, “come on, tell me. Because you’re gonna piss me off and then we’re both in a mood.”
“I’m really fine, Gyu. I’m tired, I’m gonna eat some leftovers...maybe watch a movie. It's just one of those days, you know?” You shrug, “it’s not like anything is particularly wrong. I just feel weird, and that’s okay.”
You’re lying through your teeth, but he doesn’t look all that convince anyway as you hear the timer in your kitchen start going off. You give him a quick smile, “my food’s ready, so I gotta go but I’ll see you on Friday, Gyu. I promise I’m excited to see you.”
“Well, you’d still need the context of what’s happening on Friday, but sure.” He shrugs, “just...are you sure you’re okay? I can cancel. I’ll work around you, honey, just let me know.”
You smile inwardly, pushing off the couch and taking your phone with you into the kitchen. You prop it up against your toaster as you reach for a bowl on your tiptoes, “I would say no if I didn’t want to see you, Mingyu.”
“I know, but—”
“Mingyu, baby, please.” You set the bowl down, putting your hands on your hips. He’s in his car now, pulling his seatbelt on as he balances you on the steering wheel. He’s pouting, “expect that impromptu visit anyway.”
“You never follow through with those, so I will not be cleaning my apartment tonight and I will be in my PJs by nine.” You respond, crossing your arms on your chest as you watch him roll his shoulders back – the fabric of his shirt taut against his chest. He catches you staring at him, his ears tinging pink once more as you smile cheekily, “I’ll see you on Friday. Drive safe, okay?”
“I will. I’ll see you later, baby.”
The call ends before he can see you process the petname. Your cheeks are hot as you stare at your home screen, a picture of you that Mingyu took at a burger joint after you and your ex-boyfriend broke up. You had a smear of ketchup on your cheek and Mingyu’s fingers pinching the other – he'd taken you out because you had been the one to break things off after yet another jealous fit about you being friends with Mingyu.
When you think about it, he ended up being right – just six months after the breakup, you’d slept with Mingyu for the first time.
Jaehyun had always been iffy about Mingyu, but you didn’t understand it then, or ever. The two of you had been dating for six months when he met Mingyu, your friend of two years at that point. They met at your birthday party, and Mingyu had been incredibly sweet – he'd greeted him with a firm handshake, complimented his shirt and watch, and asked what he was drinking. Jaehyun had stiffened slightly, likely at the way Mingyu towered over him; but his face soured when Mingyu greeted you next, the way he always had.
With that damn cheek kiss.
His aftershave was particularly minty that night, and it made something in your stomach lurch but you ignored it. Jaehyun was quiet that entire night, even later when you were both in bed together and he was on top of you – he murmured it, effectively killing your buzz and starting a fight.
“I don’t like that Mingyu guy.”
Your relationship was no more than two years of weird jealousy afterwards. Jaehyun, however, was worse than you were in the weird terms and conditions of dating these days – he still followed his ex-girlfriends on social media and frequently engaged with their posts (you didn’t care.) He still talked to his most recent ex-girlfriend's mother, who he claimed said that he was like a son to her (again, you didn’t give a shit.)
It seemed to bother Jaehyun that you did not care what he was doing with his ‘friends’ of the opposite sex. He seemed annoyed that you could frequently hang out with your friends without caring about what he thought – posing in photobooths for pictures with your life-long friends Kwon Soonyoung and Lee Seokmin, getting dinner with your old coworker (and BFF-by-proxy) Hansol Chwe, taking shots with said BFF Boo Seungkwan at your favorite bar to celebrate his birthday...
Posting pictures of you and Mingyu at a farmer’s market the autumn before the breakup, trying spiked apple cider and pumpkin soup that you ended up bringing home for him to try.
Jaehyun didn’t like that you had friends he didn’t like. He didnt like that you had male friends period, but you simply did not care and especially not when he went on and on about Mingyu like he had a crush on him. You listened to his jealous rants about Soonyoung, Seokmin, Seungkwan and Hansol silently, merely peering up at him through your lashes and sipping whatever drink was closest. However, he really amped it up when he met Mingyu – and went as far as saying he was sure Mingyu wanted to sleep with you.
Only for you to find out in two weeks time that Mingyu had been across town that same night, breaking up with his girlfriend for saying the exact same thing about you.
She was so sure you wanted Mingyu.
And the truth was, you’d never thought about it – ever. You’d met Mingyu in grad school, through Seokmin – and your first memory of one another was at a horrible group interview for an internship that neither of you got. You stayed in touch following the months after graduation, only getting closer as Mingyu moved to your city a year after and needed friends to hang out with.
You were almost always one of those friends. If you couldn’t make it, he still made it a point to swing by your place and bring you something from wherever it was that he’d gone. Sometimes it was a thick slice of chocolate cake, sometimes it was an entire baked potato that he’d ordered to-go so you’d have something for lunch the next day. Sometimes it was just a handful of butter mints he’d stolen from the register attendant along with a colorful toothpick.
Mingyu is just like that. Sweet and caring and he is a good man. A Good Man, even, with capital letters and capital claim on your heart.
You sigh, turning your phone off and leaving it on the counter as you limply serve yourself your dinner. The stew isn’t as filling as it would’ve been had Mingyu made it, but you don’t let your mind linger on him too much as you eat on your couch and watch a YouTube video dissecting Pretty Little Liars.
Because thinking about Mingyu is bad for your heart. You can’t close your eyes when you do it, either – or his body flashes in your mind, the sounds he makes when he’s got your hands pinned to the mattress, the way he calls you baby between kisses that make your skin feel like it’s on fire. You can’t close your eyes without remembering the smell of his aftershave filling your nostrils, his fingers tugging at your clothes or the way he coos when you beg him to touch you anywhere.
Or...it’s worse, and you remember how good a boyfriend he would be. How good of a husband he would be – always having a spare change of shoes for you in his trunk for those times you’d go out to dinner or to hang out. Always offering his jacket, always holding your hand when you cross the street, always pulling you close when someone thinks it’s okay to get too comfortable with you. How he smooths a hand over your hair out of nervous habit as you worm through farmer’s markets and malls, how he’s easily thrown you over his shoulder several times when you’re throwing an embarrassing fit at a pub or a bar.
When he kisses you slowly, in his car that smells like him and you before you both get down. How he thumbs at your earrings when you’re sitting next to him at a restaurant or the movies, and his arm is draped over your shoulders. How he speaks to you softly and listens to you intently – actively interested in everything you have to say and what it means to you.
How he cares.
It has to be torture, being involved with Kim Mingyu the way you are.
But is it torture, at hands so gentle? Lips so soft, words so sweet, a heart so full?
You don’t think so.
9:32 PM.
You’d finished dinner hours ago, and your television was quietly playing some random Spotify playlist. The Kill by Thirty Seconds To Mars is filling your ears as you trill your lips dramatically and scroll on your work laptop, finalizing a presentation while sprawled across your couch.
Against your better judgment, you’d cleaned your apartment haphazardly and you took a long shower – but like any girl awaiting potential company, you put on yet another sweater and a skirt (that you dug out of the back of your closet; one that you’d caught Mingyu staring at you in ages ago.) Your pajamas laid neatly folded on your pillowcase, and you told yourself you’d get in bed by 9:45.
It’s unlikely that Mingyu will come by. You checked his location ten minutes ago, and he was at his apartment – likely cuddled up in his bed with all six of his pillows. Mingyu rarely leaves the house after eight on weekdays, anyway...unless he’s seeing you.
The time barely ticks past 9:33 p.m. when you hear a soft knock at the door – making you jolt up so fast, you feel something pinch in your neck. You still – glimpsing at the time on your laptop before checking your phone for any potentially missed messages. Mingyu usually texts you if he’s actually coming over...so it can’t be him.
No lights are on in your apartment but your stove one, so it only makes the atmosphere more tense. You stand up quietly and set your laptop down on your coffee table before hearing another knock – louder this time, the clink of metal on glass making you jump.
“Y/N, open this damn door.”
Mingyu’s voice on the other side makes all fear in your body dissipate in favor of annoyance, and you make your way over; unlocking the door quickly and huffing as you open it. He’s leaning coolly against the frame, holding a bouquet as usual – but you put your hands on your hips as you look up at him.
You hate the way your cheeks grow hot at his soft smile.
“It’s not Friday, Kim Mingyu.”
“I can still bring you flowers, baby.”
“Blah, blah, blah.” You make a face at him, opening the door further to let him in and turning on your heel – only to feel his arm wrap around your waist and gently pull your back into his chest. He smells like that same aftershave, your skin prickling as you glance up at him.
“Is that how you greet your guests?”
“You’re hardly a guest, Mingyu. Guests don’t know where my silverware is.”
“Or that you keep lube in your nightstand.” He whispers, squeezing your hip as you swat at his arm. You scowl at him as he presses a kiss on your forehead, “I told you I was coming.”
“It’s damn near ten at night.”
“So? I can just stay over.”
“You just wanna fuck me.”
“Or I miss you, baby.” He murmurs, pressing another kiss to your temple. “I miss you a lot, actually.”
“Breaking news: Kim Mingyu admits he misses his dearest, smartest, prettiest friend ever. More at eleven.” You snort, letting him turn you around as he smiles. You let him fully wrap his arms around you, your nose filling with that damn aftershave as he smoothly picks you up; your legs wrapping around his waist and your arms around his neck as he kicks your door shut with a kiss to your cheek.
“Kim Mingyu does,” he replies gently, and you feel shy as he nuzzles his nose against your cheek before kissing it again. Once, twice, three times. “I stopped by Chan’s, but he only had these and a few others. You like?”
You can hardly see the flowers, and Mingyu seems to recognize that as he flicks on your dining room light. Warm yellow rays fill the area, your eyes blinking rapidly to adjust as you glance at the flowers between you. Large white daisies are mere centimeters from your face, and you stop yourself from smiling to raise a brow at him.
“These are your birth flower.”
“You’re supposed to like everything about me, and that includes my birth flower.”
You roll your eyes, thumbing at the petals as he presses another kiss to your jaw, “yeah, they’re cute. I like.”
“Good, because I fucked up and also ordered another one for next week when I’m not going to see you, so you’ll be getting this twice but as delivery. I might get another just to apologize but that’s a quest for Later Mingyu.” He speaks against your cheek, pressing kiss after kiss on the warm skin, “missed you, missed you, missed you.”
“You’re smothering me!” You whine, feeling him pepper the side of your face with kisses, “Mingyu!”
“You complain I don’t see you enough, and you complain when I do. You’re never satisfied,” he jokes, carefully setting the flowers down on your dining room table to hold you closer. His hands are gripping your thighs, the material of your skirt straining against them as you press a kiss on the column of his throat, “thank you for the flowers.”
He shivers, “you always say thank you. Don’t thank me for the bare minimum.”
“I don’t get you flowers, Mingyu.”
“You should start. I like flowers and being smothered and impromptu visits with at my apartment with my dearest, smartest, prettiest girl, Y/N.”
You roll your eyes, ignoring the fluttering in your belly as you shake your head, “you’re impossible, Kim Mingyu.”
“Yeah, well...you love me anyway.”
“That’s an incredible assumption.”
“Shut up.”
“Make me.” You scoff, limply shoving his shoulder. He sucks his teeth, kicking his shoes off and clearly choosing to ignore your bait as he tightens his hold on your thighs, “what are you doing here, Mingyu? You’re not making dinner, and you clearly don’t have a plan in mind...so what do you want?”
He raises a brow, “I want to see you. Ask about your day. Also, steal some of those almonds you have hidden in your nightstand, next to your lube.”
“You just want me for what I can provide.”
“I want you for lots of things and lots of reasons, but what can you provide that I won’t willingly give you, anyway?”
You can smell the mint on his breath, like he’d brushed his teeth before getting to your apartment. Your eyes trail him silently, taking in the soft fabric of his casual t-shirt against the inside of your knees. Your skirt is starting to ride up, snug against your midthighs as you click your tongue in defeat.
“Exactly.” He says pointedly, squeezing your thigh as he flicks the dining room light off again, making you tighten your grip around him as he moves to turn on the lamp in your living room. He looks over your head at the television with an amused look, “are you sure you’re not sad or something? What’s with the ambiance?”
“You insist something is wrong with me, but I promise you,” you lamely hit the side of your closed fist to his chest, “I am fine.”
He gives you a knowing look in the moody lighting, before leaning down slightly. He glances at your lips, silently begging for a kiss only for you to roll your eyes and do the same. He smiles shamelessly, kissing you gently before looking around once more.
“It’s so dark in here.”
“I was just finishing stuff for work.”
“What have I told you about working off the clock? Stop working for free, they pay you shit as it is.” He squeezes your thighs for emphasis, and you suck in a quick breath involuntarily. You scrunch your nose as he grins, before smacking his shoulder gently.
“You’re the last person who can tell me that, you’re a workaholic. I see you twice a damn month because you’re always holed up in that office.” You shove a finger in his chest, only for him to press another kiss to your lips as you pout, “Mingyu!”
“You are so annoying, baby.” He murmurs, nipping at your lips like he might die if he doesn’t. “You can’t even appreciate that I took time out of my very busy schedule to come see you. And let’s not forget you love my job when it means you get to see me in a suit.”
“I’m going to ignore that for the sake of my sanity. What is so important about having dinner and jerking off for an hour that you think you’re doing me a favor?”
“I do not jerk off for an hour.” He scoffs, "I merely think about you for forty minutes and then I—”
“Enough. The point is that you do it. Like a loser. You’ll get carpal tunnel, you know.” You say with a sniff, your lips twitching as he laughs. He makes his way to your couch, sitting on the chaise at the end of it. He leans back into the cushions, smoothly adjusting you on his lap as he stuffs a throw pillow under his head to look at you. “Tell me why you’re here, Mingyu.”
“If you need a reason, it’s that I genuinely missed you. If that wasn’t already obvious.” He speaks sincerely, raking his fingers gently through your hair and earning a shiver. He tugs at it lightly, smirking as you let out a quipped whine before smacking his hip, “I just wanted to see you.”
“You’re holding me hostage against you, Mingyu.”
“Because you’ll sit a mile away unless I do. It’s like you avoid me.”
“I don’t avoid you, idiot. You just radiate so much heat that it makes me wanna die, I hate sweating.” You remind him, lowering yourself so you’re chest-to-chest with him, but propping yourself on your elbows to still hover over him. He plucks at the hem of your sweater, dipping his fingertips beneath the fabric; cool against your hip as he tilts his head, “that is true.”
“I know.”
“Can you hurry up and say you missed me, too? I’m starting to feel a disconnect.”
You purse your lips as you hold back your laughter, his pouted lips making you cover your mouth as you swallow your cackle.
“I did, I missed you.” You admit wholeheartedly, shrugging your shoulders as he tugs at the necklace he gave you, “of course I missed my Mingyu.”
“Not Park Mingyu from finance, right?” He sulks, tucking his chin to his chest as you chuckle, pinching his cheek between your knuckles carefully.
“Not Park Mingyu from finance, no. Don’t you know? I’d be bored in two days.”
“Exactly,” he huffs, wrapping his fingers gingerly around your throat, “can I stay? Or do you want me to leave?”
“It’s always nice when you stay over. However, you’re late for dinner and lack of punctuality does knock ten points off for Kim Mingyu. Still in first place, but you’re pushing it.”
“I’m sorry,” he nods, squeezing the sides of your neck gently before his lips plant a soft kiss on your forehead, “should we go to your room?”
“That’s incredibly suggestive, Mr. Kim.”
“It’s only suggestive if you make it suggestive, baby.”
“You calling me baby only cements my point.”
“Okay, maybe. But you could have some mercy on me.” He mumbles, pressing another kiss to your nose. You raise a brow, “are you sure you’re not the one who has a problem? You’ve been in my face since you got here, I’m literally on top of you. The world won’t end if you’re not touching me, you know.”
“I’m just used to having you close.” He shrugs, “I missed you.”
“Mingyu, you’ve said that so much that the words don’t even sound real anymore. You’ve been here for ten minutes and you’ve said it six times.”
“So? Is there a problem?” He mumbles against your lips, your breath hitching as he bridges the gap. His hands move to your hips, fingertips digging into the fabric of your skirt as he sits up carefully. Your hands palm at his chest as he pulls you impossibly closer, your skin littering with goosebumps as he slides his hands down your thighs. Your own shoot out to grab his wrists, pulling his hands away and pinning them to the couch before pulling away with a soft pant. He tries to kiss your jaw, his lips brushing your skin as you crane your neck away.
“What on Earth has gotten into you? Did you finally give into those stupid honey packs that Soonyoung was talking about the last time we all hung out?”
He scoffs, “absolutely not. You know I like this skirt, don’t play coy.”
You snort, dropping his hands to cross your arms on your chest. His fingers trace tight circles into your left knee, before he glances at your sweater with an amused look. He leans back on one hand, his tongue darting out to wet his lips as he raises a brow.
“You knew I was coming.”
“No, I didn’t.”
“Then you were hoping I would, baby.”
“Shut up. You’re supposed to be at home, and I should be in my bed right now.” You mutter, tonguing your cheek as you see your laptop turn off due to inactivity out of the corner of your eye. You glance back at him, his eyes trailing the slope of your neck as you clear your throat and run a hand through your hair, “how was your day?”
“Funny you should ask. Kim Mingyu has had his first official bad day at the office.” He nods, pressing his lips into a thin line that makes you bite back a laugh. “People are entitled, and I usually get through it pretty well, but today was just off the damn charts. I was late to work this morning, and I had to push back a presentation because I fucking lost my thumb drive because I left it at home. An intern tried to tell me my numbers were wrong, when I checked the math not once, but three separate times. We got into a nasty argument, also something new for me.”
He shrugs, “I sent her home early and I left an hour after lunch. Bought groceries, made dinner...life goes on but today was actually such shit. So...it’s nice to see you.”
“I think you forgot ‘tried to flirt with Y/N’ somewhere in there. I think during the whole ‘brought groceries’ part.” You let your cheeks warm as you tilt your head at him, only to earn a devilish smile paired with a one-armed shrug as he taps your knee with his knuckle.
“I didn’t try to do anything.” He leans back on his elbow, sucking his teeth as you raise a brow at him, “I was merely stating facts. I’m nice to you, and you’re a pillow princess. One plus one has always been two, baby.”
“You are nice to me, that’s true. But you’re the one—”
“A lady like yourself mustn’t get her hands dirty for pleasure. That’s what I’m here for.”
His eyes are pointed, and you conjure an annoyed look as you poke a finger into his side. He squeals, grabbing your wrists and pulling you down on top of him, “stop that. Tell me about your day.”
“Nothing happened.” You shrug, pushing yourself up. Your hands are on either side of his head as you stick your tongue out at him, only for him to do the same and touch the tip of yours with his. You scrunch your nose as he snorts, before calling your bluff.
“You’re lying.”
“Hm...I broke my favorite pair of earrings. I tripped going up the stairs when I came back from getting lunch at that bistro we like in downtown. Park Mingyu from Finance asked me to dinner. Nothing insane.”
It’s not a lie.
But it’s been a few weeks since it happened. It was a rare day in the office for you, and you’d been in and out of meetings all mornings – but he caught you just as you got in the elevator to meet Soonyoung for lunch.
Park Mingyu wasn’t bad looking, and he was nice enough. He just...worked in finance, of all things, and had that same monotonous voice most finance men do. He didn’t slouch, but his tie was almost always haphazardly thrown on and you’d fixed it for him one time – but you figured one time was enough to get him hooked.
Kim Mingyu is looking up at you through his lashes, his hands seemingly now lost on what to do as he pulls them off your waist. His eyes are darting all over your face – likely looking for a hint at you kidding. A quirk of your lip, a twitch of your brow, something – but the silence between you only gets thicker as his jaw grows slightly tense.
“...did you give him an answer?”
“No. I said I’d think about it.”
Mingyu scoffs.
He actually scoffs, like how dare you have the audacity to tell someone else you’d think about giving them a positive answer to their dinner invitation? How dare you, when you know you’d likely not like your food? And then it’s awkward for weeks, before you get a paragraph to your work number about how Park Mingyu is such a nice guy – from Park Mingyu himself.
The man beneath you runs a hand through his hair, and you sit up to allow him to do the same. He does, unzipping his sweater and shrugging it off before he tosses it over the side of your couch.
You resist the urge to run your hands up his bare arms, cursing the way his shirt fits against his chest so snugly.
“When did he ask you? During lunch? Did you go to the office today?”
“Two weeks ago.”
You shift slightly in his lap, your cheeks hot as he stares at you. There’s a mix of emotions in his gaze – confusion, amusement...a bit of anger, you want to think.
A bit of jealousy.
“And you’re telling me this now?”
“I didn’t think I had to tell you. We’re not...dating.”
The word comes out choked. You feel it; he hears it, and your legs tighten subconsciously around his thighs. He glances down at them, his eyes catching a faded bite on your inner thigh from two weeks ago; his thumb pushing the hem of your skirt up high enough to make it visible to your eyes, should you look down.
“Are you gonna say yes?” His voice is level, but he’s not looking at you. In the low light, you can see the tightness in his jaw, the way he tongues his cheek before you feel his fingers tap your thigh, “are you?”
Your throat feels dry as you steal a glimpse of the flowers on your dining table.
“Y/N.”
You let out a forced chuckle, “c’mon, you know me, Gyu. He’s in finance. I really would get bored in two days. A few hours, even.”
He doesn’t seem convinced, “that’s not a no.”
“What do you want me to say, Mingyu?” You run a hand down the front of your sweater nervously, bunching the fabric in your palm as he leans forward slightly. Your tongue darts out to wet your lips, not managing to shake his focus like the action usually would.
“That you’ll say no.” He says plainly, before scoffing as a smile of disbelief crosses his lips. “In fact, I don’t even know why you’re entertaining the idea of it when we both know you’d never say yes unless something happened between us.”
For a moment, you dislike Mingyu. Your eyes narrow as you look down at him, tracing his features as he clicks his tongue.
“What is this ‘us’ you’re referring to?” You speak softly, but clearly – splaying your hands on your knees as you lean into his space. “What do you mean by ‘us,’ Mingyu? What does ‘us’ mean to you?”
“You and I.”
“What about you and I?”
His hand leaves your thigh, and he has the gall to roll his eyes as he runs it over his face.
“You’d never say yes to Park, because you have me. You don’t need anyone else.”
“What makes you think I even need you?”
“The fact that you melt in my hands the moment I walk through that door.” He’s in your face, his breath wafting against your lips as he maintains eye contact. “You forget the world exists when I’m with you, and it’s the only time I’ve ever seen you relax. You love having me around, and you love me. You don’t have to say it for me to know.”
You want to pretend that he can’t feel the way you freeze on top of him. His eyes widen slightly as you swallow carefully, “love...is a stretch, Kim.”
“We both know it’s not.”
“You’re insane.”
“Then what does that make you, hm?” His hands are back on you, massaging the tension in your thighs that only makes your back rigid. A shiver snakes down your spine as his thumb brushes the cotton of your underwear, “what does that make you, baby?”
“I hate it when you call me that,” you blurt, and he has an unimpressed look on his face when you double down, “I hate it, Mingyu.”
“Yet, you pout when I call you Y/N.”
“Well, just call me Y/N anyway.”
You huff, moving to get up but he holds you in place – his grip firm as he pulls you into him. Your chest hits his as you avoid his gaze, your arms stiff between your bodies as you give up on getting off him.
“Still wanna tell me nothing’s wrong?” He mumbles, his eyes soft as he wraps his arms around your waist. You don’t reply, tonguing your cheek as you feel the stupid burn in your throat as you focus your line of sight on the flowers he put on the table.
Cute. Soft. Delicate.
An extension of him.
You swallow hard, blinking rapidly as you speak quietly, “what are we doing?”
He sighs, resting his forehead against your shoulder, “I don’t know. I thought I’d have an answer by now.”
“You don’t know,” you repeat, “because you didn’t want to ask me or because you thought I’d ask first?”
“Both.”
“Coward.”
The word is bitter as it leaves your mouth, but you can’t move. You don’t want to move – the fear of him slipping through your fingers overpowering as your hands grip his shoulders like he’s going to disappear. He leans into your touch, burying his face into the crook of your neck and inhaling deeply. He doesn’t say anything, but you feel his lips brush against your skin as you wrap your arms around his neck. Your fingers card through the hair at the nape of his neck, the smell of his shampoo making you melt into his embrace.
“Tell me I’m yours.” His voice is muffled against your neck, “please. Please.”
“I don’t know if you are, Mingyu.” You can’t recognize the sound of your own voice, thick and uncertain. His grip on you tightens, and you feel a shaky breath against your neck as you pull back, trying to meet his eyes. He stares at the necklace around the base of your throat, the seashell-shaped locket glinting in the light.
“I can be. I want to be.” He’s barely speaking above a whisper as his fingertip taps the locket, hooking around the chain and giving a careful tug. “Do you know why I gave this to you?”
You glance down at it, “because you were in Bali and it was on sale?”
He snorts, the air around the two of you settling evenly on your shoulders, “no. Well, I was in Bali, but no it wasn’t on sale and that’s not why I got it.”
“All I’m getting is that you went to Bali without me.”
“Yeah, well. I couldn’t be around you in all those pretty dresses you wear when it’s hot out.” He sighs, “seashells are a symbol of love.”
“Doesn’t mean you’re in love with me.”
He shrugs slightly, popping the shell open to reveal it empty, “it’s said that seashells are associated with Aphrodite, the goddess of love. That they represent the warmth and care and security of love, because they protect the pearl that grows inside that shell.”
He clears his throat, closing the locket with a click.
“The point of the locket was to put a picture of us in there, someday. It’s been six months since I gave this to you, and I think about it everyday.” He ducks his head like he’s afraid of the truth spilling from his mouth, but he can’t stop talking. “Sometimes, I think you were made for me, as stupid as that might sound. Like Eve was made for Adam, from his rib, or something like that.”
You can feel your eyes burning as you watch him nibble on his lip, his hands restless as he moves them from around you to the hem of your skirt before gripping the cushion beneath you both.
“I don’t know much about falling in love,” he admits, “but...I know that you saved all the flowers I gave you, bits of them, even before we started doing whatever we’re doing. A part of me wants to believe that you saved them because you wanted to keep me around, even if it was just the flowers I gave you...because I’ve kept all the receipts from Chan’s shop when I’ve bought them. I always liked giving you flowers because you like them, but after the first time we kissed...it felt romantic and I just wanted to make your life even just a little brighter and, ugh, I don’t know. Tell me I’m ruining this and I’ll shut up.”
You blink at him silently, shaking your head before sliding your hands down his arms, “have I told you that you talk a lot?”
“Many times.”
“Have I ever told you to stop?”
You raise a brow as you find his hand, slotting your fingers with his and curling them around his palm. His rings dig into your skin but you don’t care, “continue, Mr. Kim.”
“I hate when you call me that.”
“I don’t care.”
“I know,” he rolls his eyes, but his cheeks are pink as you press your lips to them gingerly, “I’m not...it’s hard for me to make time for people. You’ve seen it, you know it’s true because I’ve only been able to get you in every couple weeks and trust me, it’s fucking torture. They say that distance makes the heart grow fonder but I truly cannot fathom ever wanting to be away from you. It makes my chest hurt when I wake up after seeing you and I have to leave.”
“You don’t have to.” You shrug, “leave, I mean. You can stay. Forever, if you wanted to.”
His chuckle is almost humorless, “I’d never get anything done.”
You nod silently, tracing circles into the back of his hand with your thumb before you glance up at him. You let go of his hand to cradle his cheek carefully, watching the way he leans into your touch. His arm wraps around your waist again, pulling you down with him as he lays back against the cushions once more.
“So...I can be yours. If you want me to be. If you’ll have me, rather.”
You don’t respond, chewing on your cheek while pinching his between your knuckles. A silence blankets over you both, even as he brushes a soft kiss to the tip of your nose. You scrunch it, before resting your head on his chest with a click of your tongue, feeling his hand push the hem of your shirt up – fingers drumming against the warm skin of your hip.
“Earlier, you said I needed context for Friday. What’s that about?”
“My parents are in town.” He blurts, and your eyes widen as you jerk away from him, “I wanted you to meet them.”
You scan his face, your lips parting as you sit up. Your knees dig into his hips as you run a hand through your hair, letting out a chuckle of disbelief.
“Surely they don’t know we’re in this entanglement.”
“...They think we’re together.”
“Mingyu!” You choke on his name, earning a wince as you give his shoulder a slight shove. He pouts, grabbing your wrists and pulling you back on top of him, “why would you tell them that?! Why do they even know about me?!”
“Because I love you.” His voice makes you still, his eyes serious as he bores them into you. A wavering uncertainty is laced in them, mixed with that same pure adoration that he always held in even a wayward glance your way. Your hands curl into fists, your nails digging into your palm before he forces them open and interlaces your fingers. His thumbs trace circles on the back of your hands, nervously nibbling on his lip before he clears his throat.
“I love you, and I’m a coward but I cannot imagine being without you. It makes my stomach hurt to think about it, it makes me nauseous when I think about someone else having you the way I do. Someone else bringing you flowers and making you dinner and kissing you stupid when they don’t deserve you to begin with is an atrocious thing to think about. I love you, and I want to be your emergency contact. I want to make you dinner and rub your feet and I want to put a shiny ring on your finger. I want to listen to you sing in the shower, I want you to tell me it’s not a duet when I join in and I want to make good on any and every promise I ever let fall into you. I love you, and I want you, only. For the rest of our lives.”
Your nose burns as tears prick at your eyes, and you tear your hands from his to dig the heels of your palms into your eyes – coating them in said hot tears. Your voice is thick, “God, you suck.”
“I just put my heart on a platter for you.”
“That’s exactly why you suck, because now I can’t tell Park Mingyu I’ll have dinner with him.”
Your joke is ill received as he scoffs, crossing his arms on his chest as you wipe at your face haphazardly before leaning over and pressing a chaste kiss to his forehead. Your hands cradle his face gently, thumbs rubbing his cheeks back and forth as he sulks, “I love you, Mingyu.”
“Kim Mingyu.”
“I love you, Kim Mingyu.”
He lets you kiss him, uncrossing his arms and pulling you close. His fingers dip beneath your sweater, squeezing your hips as he teases his tongue into your mouth – minty and gentle as your hands move to tug at his shirt. He stops you by abruptly sitting up, cupping your ass as he stands from the couch. Your legs wrap around his waist as his lips trail your jaw, nipping at your neck as he takes you to your bedroom, nudging the door closed with his foot.
“Wanna prove it?”
“Not a pillow princess, my ass.” Mingyu’s arm is tight around your waist, his hand holding your phone as your fingernails dig into his shoulders. “Pretty girl gave up a minute in.”
“I’m just used to a...certain lifestyle,” you whimper into his neck, before hearing the unmistakeable sound of a call dialing. You look over your shoulder wearily, watching Mingyu put the call on speaker. It picks up as he holds it to your face, pulling your head back gently by your hair, “tell him you’re having dinner with your in-laws.”
“Hello?”
“H-Hey, sorry for c-calling so late,” you stutter, your eyes squeezing shut as Mingyu’s hips rock up into you slowly. “A-are you busy?”
“Never too busy for you. Are you alright? You sound...choppy.”
Mingyu gives a hard thrust then, a whine tearing from your throat as you attempt to cough, “sorry, I’m g-good! I just w-wanted to let you know that I c-can't have dinner.”
“Oh...can I ask why? I mean, I’ve been pretty nice to you for as long as I’ve known you. Could warrant a date night.”
“She’s having dinner with her in-laws, bud. Tell him, baby.” Mingyu speaks clearly, an embarrassed moan falling from your lips as his grip on your waist tightens, “tell him.”
“I’m having d-dinner with m-my in-laws...” You pant out, your lips brushing his neck as your hand blindly reached around to hang up on the Finance Guy rambling about how you led him on. Mingyu tosses your phone to the side as his hand snakes between you to cup one of your breasts in his hand, “you might have to quit.”
You nod breathlessly as he sucks your nipple into his mouth, “they pay me shit anyway.”
“New position at my firm opened up.”
“God, shut up and fuck me.”
He chuckles, flipping you onto your back smoothly and pressing a kiss to the side of your face.
“Pillow. Princess.”
“THREE YEARS IS A LONG TIME WITH NO RING, MINGYU.”
Mrs. Kim’s eyes are pointed as her son tongues his cheek, and you bite back your smile as you tip your wine glass towards your lips.
He had mentioned they’d say something along these lines – of course, he only mentioned more details of the ‘relationship’ they knew on the car ride there. Everything in the storyline was essentially the same, if you ignored that Mingyu admitted he’d fallen head over heels in love with you after the first time you slept together and the two of you had only been officially in a relationship for the last thirty-six hours.
“Y/N just started a new job, Mom. It wouldn’t be wise to...take that step in this juncture of her career.” He’s spitballing, and his sister nearly spits her wine out across the table as Mr. Kim snorts. “It’s true! Babe, tell them!”
You fail at holding in your laughter, your shoulders shaking as you nod, “I did just get a new job. But I agree, three years is a long time without a ring.”
“Babe.”
“I’m just saying, you could put some pep in your step.”
He sulks in his chair, barely sinking down two inches as everyone at the table bursts into fits of giggling, “I’m trying to take your life into consideration, too!”
“Time is money, Mingyu.” You say, pinching his cheek between your knuckles. You lean over, pressing a soft kiss to the apple of his cheek – leaving a stamp of your lipstick on the skin as the waiter returns with the check. Mrs. Kim smiles as you reach for it instinctively, the grin only growing wider as Mingyu snatches it out of your hand and shoves his card inside the booklet before you can even protest.
“At least tell me he’s taking good care of you.” Mrs. Kim’s voice is soft as you all step out of the restaurant, and you feel your cheeks heat in the cool November air as you nod.
“Mingyu is a good man,” you start, patting his arm. He beams with pride, before sticking his tongue out at his sister that makes a gagging face. You snicker, squeezing his bicep gently, “if it were up to him, I wouldn’t lift a finger.”
“But it’s not.” He sighs dramatically, “she lets me make dinner and that’s it.”
“Let is the wrong word. He barges into my apartment with groceries and I feel bad for the guy,” you feign a pout, earning a scoff from your boyfriend as his parents share a warm look, “but...I love him. What can I do, say no to a nice steak and a foot massage?”
“Yes.” Minseo pipes up, before Mingyu scowls. You snort, checking the time on your watch before his parents lean in to hug him good night. You try to stand to the side, but his sister pulls you into the familial embrace.
“We’ll catch up with you both in two weeks. Mingyu, get the girl a ring!” Mr. Kim gives your shoulder a soft pat, and Mrs. Kim slips something into Mingyu’s pocket. She tries to be discreet, but your eyes dart to her hand as she waves goodbye. You do the same, your face hot at the idea of marrying into such a loving family.
Mingyu slides his hand in his pocket as you both walk to his car, his eyes widening as he pulls it back out. Two rings glimmer in the moonlight, ones you’d complimented on his mother’s hand at the beginning of dinner.
“Little soon for marriage, huh?” He thumbs at the diamonds, and you chew on your lip as you look at them. Your eyes flicker to his, a sparkle of excitement as you see him already looking at you. You clear your throat, holding your left hand up, “well...we can just see if they fit.”
“And if they do?”
“Then I guess we’re engaged, oh boyfriend of three-years.”
“I was nervous!”
Your laughter rings out in the nearly empty parking lot, “well, I love you, anyway. Three years or two days, you said forever and that you’d make good on that.”
“I did say that.” His hands are gentle against yours, trembling slightly as he slides both rings on. They fit snugly at the base of your finger, and you wiggle them with a little smile on your face.
“We can just be ‘engaged’ for like, two years. No one suspects anything then, wedding planning takes ages.”
“Or we can get married in six months. I have contacts everywhere and that’s when you’ll have enough PTO accrued for a honeymoon.”
“You’re crazy.” You scoff, “crazy and calculated, Kim Mingyu.”
“Crazy in love with you, but sure.” He rolls his eyes, opening the passenger door for you. “Mrs. Kim Y/N, in six months. Pencil me in, babe.”
“In your dreams.”
Kim Mingyu is the love of your life.
Sweet, thoughtful, and delicate. Fragile, even: in ego, in sex, in love.
You know he’s made for you. Like Adam was made for Eve. He still shows up with a bouquet every week, but your kitchen is now shared and nicely stocked with your favorite bottles of wine.
Kim Mingyu is the petals of every flower in all the bouquets he’s ever given you. Velvety soft, perfectly cared for and beautiful.
And just as he is all those things – he is your Achilles’ heel. You can never say no to Kim Mingyu, but you can finally admit that he is something more to you..perhaps, everything.
Friend, lover, soulmate – all in one. A BOGO deal, you’d say, and he’d argue he’s at least a buy two, get one.
But, no matter what – Mingyu knows exactly who he is in your life, and you in his. Glued together at the hip, working together (though you get to boss him around and he never thought he’d be into that, a thought penciled in for much, much later when you’re both working ‘overtime’ — read: his head between your thighs at your desk with your office door locked.)
Friends, lovers, soulmates – married (six months in, just like he’d said) and in love, two idiots held safely in the other’s ribcage.

DELUSIONAL Y/N FAN
There was a rule in the barracks. Well, an unspoken rule at that. Newbies have been warned, and seasoned soldiers are alert. The rule? If you left your phone unattended and it buzzes, everyone looks.
"Jeon."
Wonwoo didn't bother looking up from the novel in his hands. "Hm?"
"You've got a notification."
Across the room, Mingyu craned his neck dramatically toward Wonwoo's bunk before gasping loud enough for the entire platoon to hear.
"Oh, my god." Mingyu's jaw dropped.
Wonwoo sighed. "What?"
"It's her!" Mingyu exclaimed. That got everyone's attention.
Seungkwan sat up from where he'd been lying on his bed. "Y/N posted?"
Mingyu nodded solemnly. "Yup."
Wonwoo reached over for his phone. The movement was small. Casual, even.
"You have post notifications on?" Chan asked, genuinely horrified.
"...No," Wonwoo muttered.
"You picked up your phone before you even checked who it was." Chan pointed out.
Wonwoo unlocked his screen and opened Instagram. Just as Mingyu had confirmed, Y/N had posted. His thumb lingered over the screen. A smile tugged at the corner of his lips. Seungkwan saw the smile on his face, and he was amused.
Wonwoo ignored him. The first photo was exactly what he expected. Another stadium, another sea of lights, another sold-out show. The second was backstage. The third—his smile grew bigger without realizing it.
"Wonwoo!" Soonyoung called.
"What?" Wonwoo echoed.
"You smiled." Soonyoung teased. Wonwoo looked at him and said, "...Did I?"
"You did!" Soonyoung chuckled.
"Oh, he smiled," Chan confirmed, pointing accusingly. "I saw his teeth!"
Wonwoo looked back down at his phone. "It was funny."
"What was?"
He hesitated. "...Nothing."
Mingyu lunged across the space between their bunks. Wonwoo tilted the phone away just enough.
"Lemme see," Mingyu said.
"No," Wonwoo replied.
"Why not?" Mingyu pouted. "I just wanna see."
"It's my phone, Mingyu. Check your own phone." Wonwoo scoffed.
Mingyu squinted his eyes, "You're being suspicious."
"It's not suspicious."
"It is when you're guarding Y/N's Instagram like it's classified information." Mingyu rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.
Wonwoo locked his phone with a quiet click. "I'm going to finish my book."
"Oh, he's embarrassed." Mingyu snickered.
"He definitely left a thirsty comment." Soonyoung chortled. "I didn't know you were that kind of fan, Wonwoo."
"I didn't leave a nasty comment," Wonwoo said, busy reading his book.
"You thought about it," Soonyoung said.
"Nope."
"You've thought about marrying her," Jihoon said from his bed.
Wonwoo blinked. "Probably."
The room fell silent. Then, the room erupted in loud laughter. Chan nearly fell off his bunk laughing. Seungkwan slapped his knee. Even Vernon looked up from the crossword puzzle he'd been pretending to solve. Mingyu wiped imaginary tears from his eyes.
"Our boy is never beating the delusional allegations." Mingyu ruffled Wonwoo's hair.
-
Training that afternoon was merciless. By the time they were dismissed, Wonwoo's shoulders ached, his boots were caked in dirt, and the only thing he wanted was to shower. Unfortunately for him, he found himself cornered outside the barracks by the self-proclaimed biggest Y/N stan, Boo Seungkwan, who had his phone out.
"Look!" Seungkwan said giddily.
Wonwoo glanced over. It was another clip from Y/N's tour. Shaky. Blurry. Someone had clearly filmed it from halfway across the stadium.
"She changed the acoustic section tonight," Seungkwan said. "Nobody saw that coming."
Wonwoo watched the first few seconds. "She wasn't feeling it."
Seungkwan frowned. "What?"
"The other song," Wonwoo answered, looking at Seungkwan in the eyes. "She wasn't feeling it."
Seungkwan huffed. "And how do you know that, Jeon?"
Wonwoo shrugged. "She always switches when she's tired."
A pause. Then Seungkwan pursed his lips, "You always say 'she always'."
"What?" Wonwoo tilted his head.
"Like," Seungkwan sighed. "'she always switches songs', 'she always wears that color', 'she always laughs like that'. Bro, you talk like you've known her your whole life."
Wonwoo only shrugged. In fact, he never argued. Arguing never helped, anyway.
That night, after lights out, the barracks settled into silence. Or as close to silence as six grown men could manage. Someone snored. Someone muttered in their sleep. Mingyu rolled over with enough force to make his bunk squeak.
Wonwoo reached beneath his pillow for his phone. One earbud. Volume low. He opened a fan-uploaded video. The quality was terrible. The audio peaked every time the crowd screamed. Still, he watched.
The camera shook violently as Y/N ran across the stage, waving at eighty thousand people like she had enough love for every single one of them. Wonwoo smiled.
"Careful," he whispered to the screen before she jogged down a staircase.
The person filming nearly dropped their phone. The video ended. Suggested clips appeared. He clicked another. Then another. Then another. A knock sounded against the metal frame above him.
"Jeon."
Wonwoo paused the video. "Yeah?"
"Go to sleep," Seokmin said sleepily. "I can see light from your phone."
"In a minute," Wonwoo said quietly.
"You said that an hour ago." Seokmin yawned.
"Mm."
Seokmin sighed and eventually dozed off. Wonwoo stared at the paused frame. She was laughing at something someone off-camera had said.
He wondered what it was. He wondered what city she'd wake up in tomorrow. His thumb hovered over the message icon before stopping. The time difference. She'd be onstage by now. He locked his phone. Rolled onto his back. Closed his eyes.
"Good night, Mrs. Y/L/N Y/N." Mingyu teased while his eyes were closed.
"Good night," Wonwoo said softly.
I SWEAR I'M TELLING THE TRUTH
Military life had a funny way of making days blur together. Wake up. Train. Eat. Train again. Sleep. Repeat. Some days went by so quickly that Wonwoo barely had time to think. Those were the good days.
Then, there were days like today. The kind where his thoughts wandered despite himself, and he moved around half-dead like a zombie.
The cafeteria had run out of coffee that morning. 'She would've complained.' Wonwoo thought.
Training had been pushed back because of the rain. 'She hates getting caught in the rain.' Wonwoo stared out the window.
Seungkwan had nearly slipped face-first into the mud. 'She would've laughed until she cried.'
Wonwoo sighed quietly. It was exhausting. No, loving her is easy. Missing her was exhausting. His brain had become annoyingly predictable over the past year and a half. Everything somehow circled back to her: the weather, a song, coffee, a dumb joke, a bird that looked like one she'd once spent ten minutes trying to photograph.
Aside from turning rotten as days go by, what else could he do but think of her?
"Jeon!"
Wonwoo blinked. "Hm?"
"I've been calling your name." Mingyu frowned.
"Sorry."
"You zoning out again?" Mingyu huffed. Wonwoo shrugged. Mingyu grinned. "Were you thinking about your girlfriend?"
Laughter rippled through the room. Wonwoo didn't even bother correcting him anymore. "Yeah."
Another round of laughter.
"So honest," Chan wheezed. "Bro's embracing the delusion now."
Wonwoo simply shook his head and ate kimchi.
By afternoon, the rain had stopped. The sky was clear. Training had finally ended. Wonwoo had just started untying his boots when someone called his name.
"Private Jeon."
He looked up. A staff sergeant stood outside the barracks holding a medium-sized cardboard box.
"Package for you."
Wonwoo frowned. He definitely wasn't expecting anything. "For me? Are you sure?"
The sergeant nodded. "Sign here."
He did. By the time he turned back around, seven heads were already at him. Mingyu pointed dramatically.
"Who's sending you packages?" Mingyu lifted an eyebrow.
"No idea." Wonwoo shrugged.
"Liar." Mingyu crossed his arms.
"I'm genuinely not," Wonwoo said.
Chan leaned forward. "Your parents?"
"Maybe." Wonwoo sighed as he sat on his bed.
"Open it." Vernon piped up.
"I'm tired," Wonwoo said, putting the box next to him as he continued to untie his boots.
"Open it." Seungkwan clapped.
"I'm showering first."
"OPEN IT!!" Soonyoung exclaimed excitedly. Wonwoo stared at him, then at everyone else, before sighing, "Fine."
Soonyoung, Jihoon, Seokmin, Mingyu, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Chan gathered around Wonwoo curiously. Wonwoo never received packages before. He barely got any visitors, too.
The tape peeled away with a soft rip. Inside, there was nothing flashy. Just neatly packed things. Coffee, instant ramen, protein bars, a new pair of insoles, and a small tube of hand cream from Yves Rocher that he loved.
Seungkwan tilted his head and pursed his lips, "Your family knows you too well. I mean, even my eomma doesn't know the hand cream I love."
Everyone nodded in agreement with their own anecdotes of how their parents don't know small things about them, too.
Wonwoo reached deeper into the box. His fingers brushed against thick paper. He pulled out a stack of Polaroids. His expression softened. Mingyu noticed.
"Aha!" Mingyu exclaimed.
"What?" Wonwoo asked.
"You did the smile." Mingyu teased.
"What smile?" Wonwoo played dumb.
"You know," Mingyu said. "The smile."
"I don't know what you're talking about." Wonwoo shook his head.
"But you DID." Mingyu huffed.
Wonwoo ignored him. The first Polaroid showed a sunrise over an empty stadium. The second is a blurry picture of a stray cat. The third, a paper coffee cup with her messy handwriting that read: Too bitter. 2/10.
The corners of his mouth twitched upward. "She still hates black coffee." He mumbled.
Silence. Wonwoo froze. 'Oops...' Wonwoo thought.
Seungkwan looked up. "What did you just say?"
"Nothing."
"No, you definitely said something." Seungkwan eyed him suspisciously. "You said, 'she still hates black coffee'..."
Jihoon folded his arms, "You talk like you know her."
Wonwoo looked at the Polaroid for another second before placing it gently on his blanket. On a normal day, he'd let those comments slide. Today was different. He was missing Y/N more than usual. All the colors around him are dull, and his tasks are mundane. Against his better judgment, he said, "I do."
The room erupted into laughter. Chan laughed so hard, he had to sit down. Mingyu pointed at Wonwoo while laughing.
"Wow, he actually thinks he knows her!"
"Bro actually committed THAT hard!"
"You know what? Respect."
Seungkwan shook his head, grinning. "You're unbelievable."
Wonwoo didn't argue. He never argued. He simply reached back into the box. At the very bottom, a folded envelope. No sender's name. Just his. He unfolded the letter. The handwriting made his chest ache immediately.
My Dearest, Wonwoo,
Paris was loud. Portugal was louder. I still think Tokyo had the best crowd, but if you were here, you'd probably disagree.
He chuckled lightly.
I'm sending you stuff that I've picked up for you along the way. I hope you like them! I also hope you like the Polaroids :>
The coffee was insanely bad istg. The cat followed me for three blocks. The sunrise reminded me of you. We used to watch them all the time. I miss you so much, my love. I hope giving you this package can ease the pain of missing me too.
His grip tightened on the paper.
I love you, Wonwoo.
P.S. Please, please, please send me anecdotes of ur life in the barracks!! I hope they're feeding you enough bc I'll fight them lol jk. I'll see you soon (hopefully).
P.P.S I'm taking a hiatus after this long-ass tour. I'll travel the world with you... or maybe just chill at home with your buldak addiction. Maybe get married in secret and start a family? I don't know, but the possibilities are endless. I love you!
Yours always,
Y/N, writing from Amsterdam <3
For a moment, the barracks disappeared.
A private terminal. One week before enistment. The engines of her private jet hummed in the distance. She hadn't let go of his hand once.
"You know, I should stay." Y/N said to him. "I mean, I can wait until I send you off to your military service."
Wonwoo smiled. "No."
"I can postpone the first show fr you, love!"
"You won't do that." Wonwoo said softly.
"I would."
"You shouldn't," Wonwoo said, cupping her face with both hands. Tears brimmed in her eyes.
"I hate this."
"Me, too." Wonwoo smiled sadly.
She laughed weakly. "You're supposed to make this easier."
"I'm trying." Wonwoo chuckled lightly.
"You suck at it."
"Probably."
She hit his arm lightly. Just enough to make him smile. Then, she stepped closer and wrapped both arms around him, held him like she was trying to memorize every part of him. "I'll be back before you know it."
Wonwoo closed his eyes. "I know."
Neither of them believed it. A voice called her name. Five minutes. She looked toward the jet. Then back at him. Then back again. She kissed him. Once, twice. A third time after, she'd already started pulling away. The security staff politely looked everywhere else.
"Okay." She laughed through her tears.
"This time?"
"Yeah."
She made it halfway up the stairs before turning around one last time. Wonwoo lifted his hand. She mirrored the gesture. Then she disappeared inside. He didn't leave, not until the jet became nothing more than a white speck against the sky.
"Jeon?"
Wonwoo blinked. The barracks came back into focus. Mingyu was waving a hand in front of his face.
"Dude, you've been staring at that letter for, like, five minutes," Mingyu said.
"Sorry," Wonwoo said.
"So?" Seungkwan leaned forward. "Who sent it?"
Wonwoo carefully folded the letter. Placed it back inside the envelope, then looked at the six men staring at him.
"She's busy," was all Wonwoo said, completely disregarding Seungkwan's question.
HONORABLY DISCHARGED
The morning of Jeon Wonwoo's discharge was surprisingly... anticlimactic. No dramatic music. No grand farewell. Just paperwork. Sign here, initial there. Return your equipment. The military had a funny way of reducing nearly two years of someone's life into a stack of forms and a firm handshake.
"Congratulations."
Wonwoo bowed politely. "Thank you.
"Dismissed."
Wonwoo bowed one last time before heading back toward the barracks. His duffel bag sat neatly on the edge of his bunk, packed the night before. Wonwoo checked his stuff before he zipped his duffel bag shut and slung it over his shoulder.
"Well," Seokmin said, breaking the silence. "I guess this is it."
"So sentimental," Soonyoung teased, nudging Seokmin with an elbow. "You gonna cry?"
"I might," Seokmin said.
"You absolutely are."
"I'm definitely not crying because I'm gonna miss Wonwoo-hyung." Seokmin huffed.
"Oh, now you call me 'hyung'." Wonwoo laughed. A quiet laugh rippled through the room.
Wonwoo smiled. "Take care of yourselves."
"Look who's acting like a dad now," Mingyu snorted.
Chan crossed his arms. "Don't forget us when Y/N notices your comments."
"She notices," Wonwoo said. "Sometimes, I tell her in person."
The room erupted in laughter.
"There he goes!"
"Last delusion before discharge!"
"Never change, Jeon!"
Wonwoo chuckled. "I won't." He reached into his duffel bag and pulled out a small paper bag. "I almost forgot." He handed it to Seungkwan.
"What's this?" Seungkwan eyed the bag suspiciously.
"Snacks." Wonwoo shrugged.
Seungkwan peeked inside. His eyes widened. "Wait... these are imported!"
"They're your favorite," Wonwoo said casually.
"Hyung-" Seungkwan said.
"I wasn't going to finish them."
Seungkwan looked strangely touched. "Thank you."
Wonwoo nodded once. He pulled out another bag. "Mingyu."
The tall man pointed at himself, "For me?"
"You kept stealing my instant coffee."
"Allegedly..." Mingyu said.
"I bought you your own." Wonwoo handed the bag to him. Mingyu opened the bag.
"You actually remembered?"
"Mm."
For a second, nobody joked. They just looked at him.
Jihoon cleared his throat. "You're annoyingly thoughtful."
"So I've been told."
Vernon finally spoke up from the corner. "You know..."
Everyone looked at him.
"If you ever somehow meet Y/N..."
Mingyu laughed. "Here we go."
"...Can you ask her for a video message?"
Seungkwan immediately pointed at Vernon. "You're not even sure if Sofia's a fan!"
"...Who said it was for Sofia?"
The room dissolved into chaos. Wonwoo shook his head, unable to stop smiling. "I'll see what I can do."
"Screw all of you," Seungkwan said. "I believe he'll meet her, and I'd also like a video. I also want to meet her."
"Seriously though," Mingyu said, "if you somehow meet Y/N... tell her hottest soldier from the military, Kim Mingyu, says hi."
Wonwoo could only stare at him. How could he tell his lovely girlfriend that the 'hottest soldier' says hi? Wonwoo can manage.
"And tell her Boo Seungkwan is her biggest fan, and I can do all the dances."
"Okay..."
"And get us signed albums." Chan chimed in.
"We each want video messages!" Seokmin shouted excitedly.
"Can I get a hug?" Soonyoung asked.
Wonwoo looked at him. "...No, I don't think so, buddy."
Wonwoo simply adjusted the strap of his duffel. "I'll see what I can do as well. Bye, everyone. It was nice knowing all of you."
"Take care, hyung!"
"We love you!"
"Stay healthy!"
"Don't marry Y/N without us."
Wonwoo paused with one hand on the door. "I'll keep that in mind."
The laughter followed him all the way down the hallway. It lingered even after the voices faded into the distance. Wonwoo glanced back only once.
The barracks looked exactly as they had the day he'd first stepped inside—rows of bunks, neatly folded blankets, and seven men who'd somehow turned into family over the course of nearly two years.
He shook his head with a quiet smile. They were loud. Annoying. Unnecessarily invested in his love life. But somewhere between endless drills, sleepless nights, and terrible cafeteria food, they'd made the days a little easier to get through. They just... didn't know it.
Adjusting the strap of his duffel bag, Wonwoo walked toward the front gate. One step. Then another. The weight on his shoulders felt different now. Lighter. Not because the bag weighed any less. Because he no longer had to count down the days. The guard at the gate gave him a polite nod before handing over his identification.
Wonwoo stepped through the gate without looking back. On the other side, his family was already waiting.
His father pulled him into a tight hug before he could even say hello. His brother gave him a firm pat on the shoulder, smiling in that awkward way brothers often did.
"Welcome home, son," he said.
"It's good to be back."
As they walked toward the car, Wonwoo's phone buzzed.
[Y/N my love ♥️] good morning over there, soldier. congratulations ♥️ i'm sorry i couldn't be there, but just know i'm in your heart all the time.
A smile found its way onto his face. After nearly two years, he finally got to type the words he'd been waiting to say.
[my wonwoo ♥️] Good morning, love. Thank you. I love you so much. See you soon :)
A typing bubble appeared. Then disappeared. Then appeared again.
"So," His father smiled knowingly, "when's your flight?"
"Tomorrow." Wonwoo smiled.
His father nodded once. "Go ahead."
"What? That's it?" His brother blinked. "He just got out!"
"Well, she's waited long enough." His father laughed.
"We both have."
-
The flight felt longer than military service. Not literally. Just emotionally. He barely slept. Watched clouds drift by instead. Every few hours, he'd unlock his phone. Not to text her. Just to check where she was. London.
Tonight's show. The last stop. He smiled. Perfect.
-
Meanwhile, backstage was chaos.
"Five minutes!"
"Mic check!"
"Where's wardrobe?"
"I need someone on stage left!"
Y/N sat quietly in front of the mirror while her stylist adjusted the last few details. "You okay?"
She nodded. "Yeah. I'm just tired."
"Sure?"
She laughed weakly. "It's just..." She looked down at the bracelet around her wrist. The one Wonwoo had given her before enlistment. "Today's our anniversary."
Her stylist's expression softened. "I'm sorry."
"Eight years and going strong." She smiled. "I miss him so much. He's the reason why I keep going on every show. I keep thinking that the better I do on stage, the quicker I come back to him."
"That's sweet."
"Wonwoo's my everything, Jia." She said softly. "He's amazing. He inspired me to write and perform."
"How did you meet?" Jia asked.
"We were nineteen..." She smiled.
Y/N was already a household name, juggling interviews between college classes, while Wonwoo was just another university student who happened to be paired with her for a group project. He never treated her like a celebrity, and she loved him for it.
What started as shared notes, late-night study sessions, and coffee runs slowly turned into movie nights, bookstore dates, and a friendship neither of them realized had become something more. One evening, after walking her back to her apartment, Wonwoo stopped her before she could head inside.
"I don't think I'll ever stop liking you," he admitted with a nervous laugh. "Would... would you let me be your boyfriend?"
She smiled so brightly that he forgot every word he'd rehearsed. Instead of answering, she stepped forward, kissed him, and whispered, "I thought you'd never ask."
-
The concert was everything the internet expected. Fireworks. Costume changes. Surprise songs from her very first album. A sold-out stadium with fans singing every word. Y/N gave them everything she had because she always did. Then, the final song. The last note echoed through the stadium.
Confetti exploded. She bowed. "Thank you for coming tonight! Thank you for supporting me throughout my career, ever since I was a young teen until now. I'm so blessed and grateful to have fans like you. I love you all and good night!"
The crowd roared. She looked around with the biggest, most genuine grin and gave a final wave before disappearing behind the curtain.
Backstage erupted into cheers.
"You did amazing!"
"Last show!"
"We survived!"
Managers hugged each other. Dancers cheered. Someone popped open a bottle of champagne. Y/N laughed as people congratulated her. Then she saw him standing quietly in the hallway, hands tucked into the pockets of a hoodie she'd stolen years ago and never given back. For a moment, neither of them moved.
"Wonwoo?"
He smiled and waved.
She didn't think. She ran straight into him, hard enough that he stumbled back a step before catching her. "You idiot."
"Mm." He wrapped his arms around her tightly.
"You said you were staying home."
"You are my home," Wonwoo said.
"That's too cheesy, even for you."
"There's a first for everything."
She buried her face against his neck. "I hate you."
"No, you don't."
"I don't." Her voice cracked. She pulled away just enough to cup his face. "Your hair is shorter."
"Military things."
"I like it." She smiled. "But I missed your long hair."
"Me too."
She laughed through fresh tears. "I've cried enough over you."
"Sorry," Wonwoo said sheepishly.
"You better be." She kissed him before he could answer.
The crew, to their credit, became incredibly interested in literally everything else. The floor. The ceiling. A stack of road cases. One lighting technician suddenly discovered a deep passion for checking cables. Nobody interrupted.
-
The hotel room was unusually quiet. Not because there was nothing to say. Because after nearly two years apart, silence no longer felt empty. Y/N lay beside him, lazily tracing circles across his bare arm while the city lights spilled through the curtains. Somewhere below, traffic hummed, people laughed, and life carried on as if nothing monumental had happened. Wonwoo watched her for a long moment.
"What?" she asked, catching him staring.
"You still do that."
"Do what?"
He glanced down at her hand. "The circles."
She smiled. "It's very comforting, and I know you like it."
"True."
Another comfortable silence settled between them. Y/N shifted closer until her head rested against his shoulder. "I still can't believe you're here."
"I'm here." Wonwoo smiled, and kissed the top of her head.
"If this were a dream, I never want to wake up."
"I'd say 'don't', but," Wonwoo said. "I would never want to experience a time when you never wake up."
She looked up at him. "I fucking love you."
"That's intense." Wonwoo grinned. "I fucking love you, darling."
She laughed softly. Wonwoo brushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Can I tell you something?"
"Anything, my love."
He looked toward the ceiling for a moment, choosing his words carefully. "There were days when training was so exhausting that I forgot to miss you."
She looked up.
"And there were days when," he smiled to himself. "I'd see coffee, or it would rain, or someone would say something stupid."
A tiny chuckle escaped her.
"And I'd think..." he paused. "'Y/N would've complained about the coffee.' or 'Y/N would've forgotten her umbrella.' or 'Y/N would've laughed at that.' I couldn't stop."
Her expression softened. "Wonwoo..."
"I was going crazy." Wonwoo shook his head as he laughed quietly. "The guys thought I was obsessed with you."
"You kind of are."
"I am." He nodded without shame. He reached for her hand, intertwining their fingers. "But I had nothing to do except think of you the whole time."
His thumb brushed over her knuckles. "I had maggots for brains, my love. I was like a zombie out there."
For a second, neither of them spoke.
Then Y/N laughed. Not because it was funny. Because it was so painfully him. She leaned forward and kissed his forehead. "I know."
"You do?"
"I had that feeling, too."
He smiled. "You?"
She nodded. "I'd finish a show and immediately wonder what you would've thought. I'd see a bookstore and think about dragging you inside. I'd order room service and accidentally ask enough for two."
Her voice grew quieter. "I kept forgetting you weren't there."
Wonwoo closed the distance between them, resting his forehead aginst hers. "We're making up for lost time."
"We are."
"No more fan cams." Wonwoo said and she laughed.
"No more grainy livestreams." He added.
"No more letters." She said.
"I liked your letters." Wonwoo said.
"I liked yours better." She smiled.
"I only sent three."
She nodded. "And I re-read all three."
His heart skipped a beat. "You kept them?"
She looked at him as if the answer should've been obvious. "They're in my suitcase."
A beat.
"Your Polaroids are in my suitcase." Wonwoo said, then he laughed—a full, warm laugh she hadn't heard in far too long. "I guess we're both a little crazy."
"No." She cupped his face. "We're just in love."
He kissed her gently. This time, there was no departure gate waiting for them. No boarding call. No countdown. No wondering what city she'd wake up in tomorrow. Tomorrow, when the sun rose, he'd be there to see it with her.
BONUS
The hotel room was still half-asleep. Sunlight filtered through the curtains while the shower ran somewhere in the background. Y/N sat cross-legged on the bed, scrolling through her phone when Wonwoo's voice carried out from the bathroom.
"My phone's on the nightstand."
"Mhm?"
"Can you call Seungkwan for me?"
She blinked. "Seungkwan?"
"I promised them a video message."
Y/N grabbed his phone and marched towards the bathroom, not caring about him showering. Hey, they've been together for eight years. They've seen everything.
"Are you serious?"
Wonwoo glanced at her through the foggy glass of the shower. "Yes."
"Okay, okay." She laughed to herself. "What will I say?"
"Just... say hi or something. Oh, and Mingyu says hi. Vernon would also like a video message. Seungkwan is also your biggest fan and he's so bummed that he's not able to go to your show because he's in the military. He's always watching the reels of your surprise songs." Wonwoo said.
"Really? Well, I'll be sure to give them all a special pass when I have my concert in Korea."
"But you don't have a Korean stop."
"I do now." She chuckled before exiting the bathroom.
Meanwhile, back in Korea, it was nearly lights out. Seungkwan had just finished brushing his teeth when his phone lit up.
Wonwoo Hyung is calling...
His eyebrows shot up. "Wonwoo hyung is calling!"
Within seconds, the rest of the guys popped up from around the barracks.
"Put it on speaker!"
"No, it's a video!" Seungkwan said.
"Oh my god. Video?" Seokmin asked.
"Yah, answer it!" Jihoon said impatiently.
Seungkwan accepted the call. "Hyung!"
The screen flickered.
"Hi!"
Seven of them froze. Y/N waved cheerfully from the hotel room somewhere in London.
"So, um," she laughed awkwardly. "I know you guys asked for a video message, but I figured a video call would be more fun and interactive? Maybe even more memorable."
Silence. Complete utter silence. Behind Seungkwan, Mingyu slowly lowered the cup of instant noodles he'd been holding. Chan's jaw physically dropped. Vernon blinked once. Twice.
Soonyoung whispered, "No, way..."
Y/N tilted her head. "Anyway, Wonwoo's in the shower. He told me to call..." she glanced down at the phone. "Seungkwan?"
Mingyu moved to the side, off-camera, and shouted, "Oh my god, it's actually her!"
Y/N burst into laughter. "You must be Mingyu."
His eyes widened and walked back in frame. "You know my name?"
"Wonwoo may have talked about you guys when he got here." She chuckled.
"So he wasn't lying." Chan said and Vernon nodded.
"So you're..." Soonyoung scratched the back of his neck. "his girlfriend?"
Y/N proudly nodded. "Yes. For eight years."
"Eight years?!" Jihoon shrieked.
She nodded and smiled sweetly. "In fact, it was our eighth anniversary yesterday, and he surprised me here in London."
"You guys are practically married at this point." Vernon said.
She laughed. "Yeah."
Mingyu covered his face with both hands. "We've been bullying Y/N's boyfriend for two years."
"You called him delusional," Jihoon reminded him.
"I know!"
Seungkwan suddenly remembered something. "Wait..." He pointed accusingly at the screen. "So all those times he said, 'she doesn't like black coffee', 'she changes the acoustic set when she's tired', 'she notices my comments'..."
"All true." She confirmed.
The bathroom door opened. Wonwoo stepped out wearing a bathrobe. He smiled and waved at the guys. "Morning."
Y/N turned the phone toward him. "They have questions."
Wonwoo looked at the seven dumbfounded faces on the screen. No one spoke. Finally, Mingyu sighed dramatically. "Hyung..."
"Very much together." Wonwoo nodded, putting on his glasses. "Eight years is no joke."
"I won't be getting that hug, then." Soonyoung said quietly.
"I can still hug you!" Y/N exclaimed. "Wonwoo's not the jealous type, and he's not immature. I really got lucky."
Wonwoo blushed, causing a round of teasing from the guys. Y/N looked completely amused. "I like you guys."
Seungkwan shook his head, "I can't believe we spent two years making fun of your boyfriend."
"Now you know it's real and he's not delusional." She smirked. "Oh, before we hang up, I want to say hi to Mingyu and I want to tell Vernon that I promise to make a video greeting right after."
"Can we all get one?" Seokmin asked shyly. She chuckled and nodded. "Sure."
"Oh, and Seungkwan?" She called.
"Yes?" Seungkwan smiled excitedly.
"I know you know all of my dance steps and Wonwoo may have told me in passing that you do TikTok challenges of my songs. I'll happily do a TikTok with you when I have my concert in Korea." Y/N smiled.
"But... you don't have a concert here. It's done." Seungkwan said.
"I'm Y/L/N Y/N, Seungkwannie. I can make it happen, and I'm giving you all special passes and seats." She smirked as the guys cheered. She glanced at Wonwoo and he only shook his head with a small smile on his face.
The call ended a few minutes later. One by one, the guys climbed back onto their bunks, still trying to process everything that had just happened.
No one spoke. No one really knew what to say. Finally, Mingyu broke the silence. "We've been calling Y/N's boyfriend delusional for two years!"
"We really have," Chan muttered. "I even laughed the loudest, for fuck's sake."
"So..." Seokmin said. "are we terrible people?"
Jihoon didn't even look up from his book. "A little."
"I apologized!" Mingyu pouted as he defended himself.
"After two years." Jihoon answered back.
"I still said I was sorry!" Mingyu frowned. "Doesn't that matter?"
Before anyone could tease him further, a buzz came from Seungkwan's phone. He looked down and his eyes widened.
"Guys..."
No one answered.
"Guys!" Seungkwan said a little louder.
"What?" Vernon said.
"She followed me on Instagram."
Six heads whipped towards him.
"What?" Soonyoung asked.
Seungkwan turned his phone around.
@yn started following you.
"No way..." Soonyoung's jaw dropped. His phone buzzed, too. He quickly checked. True enough, he received the same notification as Seungkwan. "Yah! She followed me, too!"
Chan looked down at his screen. @yn started following you.
Vernon frowned at his own notification. @yn started following you.
Soon, every phone in the barracks buzzed one after another. Mingyu stared at his screen like it had personally offended him. "She's real."
"She's not AI, Mingyu-ya." Jihoon retorted.
Seungkwan scrolled through Instagram and refreshed the app. Y/N posted a few seconds ago. He quickly gave it a like before swiping through the photos.
The first few photos were from the final show. The confetti. The crowd. The dancers.
He swiped again and stopped. It was a more intimate, yet private photo. It was Wonwoo on what he assumed was their date after the call.
Wonwoo was across Y/N, and his face was strategically hidden by the cup he was drinking from. To the rest of the world, that's how Wonwoo was shown on her profile for the past eight years. Always protected, but never hidden.
The caption read: the last concert day was a blast! now, I'll be spending my days with my man. happy 8th anniversary, my love. you're the best surprise I've ever gotten.
Seungkwan bit back a squeal. He was too happy. The other guys had seen the post, too.
"No," Chan smiled as he looked around the room. "He just has someone worth going crazy for."

Seungcheol - Seungcheol sleeps on his back most of the time, usually with an unopened book in the middle of his chest, and one hand displayed over his stomach. His lips are parted, his eyelashes brushing the tops of his cheeks as his fluffy hair sweeps over his forehead in the middle.
He also usually has you pressed against his side, with your leg hooked over one of his, while his free arm serves as your pillow. He likes you flushed against him, both of you sharing body heat with a blanket coming up to his waist.
He claims he can't fall asleep any other way. When you try to move, he moves, following you like a moth to the flame. And if you try to leave? His eyes squint open, a familiar pout forming on his lips, ready to ask, " Where do you think you're going?"
Jeonghan - Jeonghan doesn't let go of your hand when he falls asleep. His fingers are interlocked with yours, holding you softly but firmly as you two face each other.
In the dark, he whispers sleepily, asking you to tell him about your day, your plans, to tell him everything he missed when he was away from you for work. His thumb caresses your knuckles while you talk, rubbing softly and other times, pulling your hand to him so he can place a kiss over your fingers.
Eventually, he'll get too tired, and he'll pull both your hands to his chest. He keeps both of your hands right over his heart, letting you feel his heart beat steadily as you speak, his eyes fluttering close as he listens.
Joshua - Joshua sleeps with his hand up your shirt.
His chest is pressed into your back, his arm slung over your waist as his hand cups your breast under the oversized t-shirt you wear to bed. It used to be his, but now you've claimed it as yours, finding comfort in the worn shirt like it's a security blanket. And if you can't wear it, laundry day takes your favorite shirt from you, you'll easily demand Joshua to take the one he wears right now off for you.
When he does what you've asked without hesitation, it never fails to make you grin, warmed by his shirt and his gesture. You're wrapped up in the scent of soft florals and something distinctly him. It makes him hold you closer, his head lowered onto the back of your shoulder as he curls around you, happy to go to sleep with you smiling sleepily because of him.
Jun - Jun falls asleep in whatever position you find comfortable. And that's even true regardless of whether he finds it comfortable too.
The moment you're cuddling into him, on top of him, behind him - he's not moving an inch. He would never dare disturb you the moment you melt into him, your cute face nuzzling into his arms, his chest, or his back until your breaths deepen and you're fast asleep.
He'll find a way to fall asleep, however you found him. Finding peace in your touch, even if it means his neck, his arm, his back, might be sore the following morning.
It's worth it, and he does it again each night you find your way to him.
Soonyoung - Soonyoung curves around your body when he sleeps. He's pulling you into his chest, your back against his front as he wraps around you.
His lips will barely brush the back of your neck, his nose nuzzling the curve of your neck as he sighs happily. With you in his arms, he can finally relax. Letting go of long days of work, muscles melting as his legs tangle with yours.
He sleepily tells you about his day like it's a bedtime story, words slurring towards the end, his lips imprinting the story against your skin before he finally exhales a long breath.
Then it's quiet, the even, deep breaths he huffs in his sleep lulling you to follow in his footsteps as he holds you close.
Wonwoo - Wonwoo sleeps on his side with his back facing you.
He doesn't mean to, it's just how it ends up going when he falls deeper asleep after you two cuddle. But it's okay, you actually prefer it because then it allows you to cuddle him from behind.
Your arms will wrap around his waist, and even in his sleep, his hand finds yours, interlocking your fingers as you press flush against him.
You can't explain it, but nothing feels better when you can hide behind Wonwoo's broad back, your face pressing into smooth skin after placing a quick kiss to his shoulder blade.
Woozi - Woozi sleeps on his stomach, preferably in between your legs.
His head rests on your stomach, moving up and down each time you take a breath. His arms wrap under your waist and back, hugging you to him or, better yet, him to you.
It's like he's hugging his favorite stuffed animal when he was a child. And it's the perfect position to feel your fingers card through his hair, your nails scratching his head just right to make him almost purr like a cat in your lap.
He loves that he can lay his weight onto you, grounding both you and him as he drifts off to sleep, your fingers threaded in his hair as his cheek smushes into your sternum.
Minghao - Somehow, you fell asleep on either side of your shared bed.
Maybe it has to do with it being too hot. You two have no issue cuddling, but then it's too much, and you're both throwing the blankets off to cool off. But then it's too cold, and his hands pull you close, and then the cycle repeats.
It's like when you have to stick one foot out of the blanket to be the perfect temperature, but then have to worry about the sleep monsters getting you.
So, you two stay apart, facing each other as you go to bed. But it's okay, because by the time morning comes, you're exactly where you started- in his arms with the blankets twisted at your feet.
Mingyu - Mingyu needs you practically on top of him for him to go to sleep.
He uses you like a weighted blanket, pulling you half on top of him or even fully on top of him as he lies on his back. Your head gets tucked under his chin, his large hand resting on the middle part of your back, keeping you flush against him.
You can actually feel his muscles relax, a deep, satisfied sigh slipping from his lips as he keeps you on him. Your leg hooks over his hip, your other leg spreads out, while your arm wraps around his. It's like you're a koala bear and he's the tree with the way he wraps you around him.
And you wouldn't be lying if you said it's one of the comfiest positions you get to fall asleep in. Your cheek smushed into his chest as he holds you.
Dokyeom - Dokyeom ends up following you into your side of the bed when you two fall asleep.
He starts on his side of the bed, like normal, cuddling you until you roll onto your back subconsciously. Then he follows you. It ends up with him lying on his stomach, his feet on his side of the bed, with his upper body on you. His head is on your stomach, his arm wrapped around your leg.
Dokyeom sleeps diagonally, taking up all the space so he can wrap his arm around you like you're his personal pillow. He holds you like that, his head rising up and down with each breath you take, his cheek smushed into your tummy, his other hand tucked under your back. He traps you between the bed and him, refusing to let you go.
You'll literally have to wake him up for him to free you from his grasp.
Seungkwan - Seungkwan sleeps with a leg hooked over yours.
His face rests right above your chest, both of you sleeping on your sides as you face each other. His leg tangles over yours to keep you close while his arm extends upwards to comb through your hair softly, listening as you tell him about your day. His other hand sneaks up your shirt, tracing shapes into your back as he slowly melts into you.
He needs to have you surround him, to let him get tangled up with you until he doesn't know where you start and he ends. The comfort of being in your arms after his long day of work never fails to bring a happy sigh from his lips.
And it ends with him falling asleep with his fingers resting on your head while his face presses between your breasts, keeping you flushed against him.
Vernon - Vernon falls asleep tangled with you.
Your face is pressed into his chest, his arms are wrapped around your back, and you're both lying on your sides. One of his hands is tangled in your hair, holding the back of your head softly, while his other hand rests on the lower part of your back.
He falls asleep knowing you're listening to his heartbeat, the steady rhythm mixed with his fingers drawing mindless circles across your skin, making you fall asleep before he does.
And it's while his legs are tangled with yours, his lips curve into a sleepy smile, happily falling asleep knowing you're in his arms.
Dino - Dino drapes half of his weight onto you like a weighted blanket.
It doesn't matter if you're lying on your back, your side, or on your stomach because soon enough, his arm is slung over your body, and so is half of his upper body.
It's the best, you get all of his warmth and the feeling of his body melting into yours as he tucks his face into your neck.
Sometimes, he will mumble slurred, sleepy words against your skin. He tells you his dreams, his day, his future that involves you. Other times, he is so exhausted he just presses one long kiss into the curve of your neck that shapes your shoulder, hoping you understand how he loves you deeply.
