STORY TIME KIDS. Lucas Grabeel who played Ryan Evans was 100% for making Ryan canonically gay, and spoke to Kenny Ortega at length to get Ryan to at least hold hands with a male student in the final scene. Grabeel is straight but thought it was so important for Disney viewers to see gay characters on TV, knowing that the HSM3 viewership was age 11+, when kids may start thinking about who they’re attracted to a bit more. basically Disney gave Lucas a flat out no and as a response wrote in Ryan’s relationship with Kelsi last minute (as speculation was already flying around about Kelsi being a lesbian). so even though disney screwed them over ortega told grabeel that he could do whatever he liked in the blooper reel and they’d include it in the DVD. hence above.

Hello everyone! I’ve seen a couple of posts about this before, but none recently, so just a reminder!

Please use “Latine” instead of “Latinx” or “Latin@” when refering to nonbinary Latines or groups of Latines. Here are a few reasons why!

In general, we nonbinary Latines have been trying to find an alternative to the gendered -a/-o endings in many Spanish words for a long time. The -e ending is our solution that the nonbinary Latine community widely agrees on, and wants to gain traction.

Using the @ symbol merely fuses the two binary gendered endings. It isn’t inclusive of nonbinary identities.

While an X is not gendered, it also is not easy for Latines to pronounce. It is not a naturally occuring ending in our languages, and due to its placement there is no agreed upon way to pronounce it.

Additionally, the @ symbol and X endings are hard if not impossible for screenreaders to recognize. We want to make sure to keep accessibility in mind!

There are already many words in our languages that end in E. It is an ending that flows naturally and is easy for us to pronounce.

Hey OP here to remind everyone:

If you aren’t latine, you don’t get speak on this issue, especially not over actual latines.

If an individual still wants to use the labels latinx or latin@ for themselves you’d better respect that or we’re gonna have an issue.

If you’re not latine / latino / latina - especially if you are not native or part native - you do NOT get to say “yeah the X ending doesn’t make sense/is too weird/etc.” It exists for a reason. The main reason I mentioned it at all in this post is because it is not an accessible word, and as a disabled nonbinary latine all forms of accessibility are VERY important to me.
