He is very good with his words and often is talking or rather negotiating his way out of things. He can clone himself like his mother as well as regenerate parts of his body but to a slower degree then his father.

The Problem with Marco Diaz

Don’t get me wrong, I love Marco. Well, season 1 and 2 Marco.. season 3 Marco… has less to be desired.

So I have quiet a few problems with Marco’s character this season, him leaving his home and just forcing himself back into Star’s life and expecting everything to be the way it was, him acting superior as if he understands mewmin politics and everything that is going on around him, not to mention bis treatment of Tom in monster bash.

Now I know this opinion will not be popular but to me Marco has… regressed, as a character rather than grown. 

I may seem too mad about all of this but it’s because I LOVED Marco in the first two seasons, and I hate how the show is treating his character in the third. 

Now let me explain.

Him leaving his home and just coming to mewni without even talking to Star… not okay. 

The worst is Star never even asked anything of him he’s just forcing this on her. Personally if someone did that for me I’d feel so guilty and torn up about it like I don’t want you doing this for me??? I don’t want to giving up your life to live for mine? But hey that’s just me.

Also he just expected her to have room for him there? Like it’s not earth Marco where she just goofs off and fights monsters, where you guys go on fun little dimensional hopping adventures, she’s a princess training to be queen. She had a big wake up call and now wants to really focus on herself and her kingdom.  She has this terrifying strong power and the weight of worlds on her shoulders, she’s playing in this endless political chess mind game where she has to find a way to make everyone happy which isn’t possible and she’s setting herself up to be hurt and ridiculed. She has so much going on for her right now…  but nah let her drop everything so you can move in and play fucking hero. 

I’ve seen so many posts about Star treating Marco so dismissively when he got to Mewni and how that’s not ‘in character’ for her at all.I see people saying she was being so mean to Marco but like… her frustration is so valid? She left Marco where he would be safe because let’s be honest, at this point she’s fighting something much more powerful than monsters and his karate isn’t going to help him much here. She does not have the time to worry about him

Another thing is his treatment of the other royals, and the entire political situation going on right now. Season one he pointed out the mewni battle wasn’t fair (which I give you points for Marco but at the same time here on mewni amongst the political chaos you are really out of your depth here). Honestly he doesn’t understand mewnin politics at all (I don’t expect him to either) but the way he treated rich pigeon in ‘Death Peck’ was uncalled for. Especially since Star was trying to create a treaty and you can see Marco’s attitude towards her allied kingdom, is stressing her out. She’s trying to be a good queen and set up a treaty for a new life with equality between monsters and mewmins and he just breaks the prince’s leg and insults hi and his kingdom. (like wtf). 

Then there is his bitter salty treatment of Tom in monster bash, beyond his crap and his apathy towards his supposed friend Tom when he see’s Tom and Star are having problems. But I want to talk about his entitled speech about what Star is trying to do, talking to Tom, the prince of the underworld. Who we’ve seen (in starfari) get confused as a monster and mistreated until they realized who he is, and yet here Marco is trying to lecture him about equality and politics. 

Marco is right about one thing, Tom’s entire life is politics, so is Star’s. So excuse Tom for wanting one night to not be future rulers, for wanting one night to be kids at a party. To have a night with his girlfriend. 

 Fucking sit down Marco you have no idea what you are talking about. You are so far out of your element here.

“That’s really neat.” She said while listening to him explain how he found it, she carefully continued to flip through it, her eyes scanning over every inch of it, reading over what she knew and what she didn’t. She had been taught to read and learn the different languages of the realm before she had been given the position she now held.

Hekapoo was surprisingly able to read most of it, even a bit of the more ancient texts as well. “…that’s quite incredible… this part here.” She said while gesturing to the slightly ancient text that she was looking over. Despite being the new forgess, she had been learning quite a bit from Glossaryck when she saw him and he wasn’t busy, and from Omnitraxius Prime and the Chancellor. Both who had been helping her adjust to her new life and job.

He glanced down at where she gestured, smiling slightly at the ancient pictures there, some of which had to be restored by hand. “Ah yes, the supposed ‘Origin of Septarians’...” Personally he didn’t believe it--creatures made from the deceased loved one of a Goddess, blessed with the ability to regenerate and thus never die--but it was certainly an interesting tale to fascinate young ones with. “Feel free to read through if you wish. Just be careful with it, of course.”

The demoness groaned softly as she slowly opened her eyes, wincing slightly at the light that filled her vision for a moment. She looked towards the Septarian, still slightly dazed from what had happened. What had happened was that she had been caught off guard and took quite the hit to the back of her head by someone, she didn’t quite catch who it was before they ran off. 

She winces in pain slightly as she gently rubs the back of her head. “Where… where am I?”

Hekapoo let the other help her sit down before letting out a soft sigh of relief as she relaxed a tiny bit, if she was bleeding, she didn’t notice nor did she care at the moment. “Alright… I’ll give you my number later then.” She said while brushing her bangs out of her eyes, a cut was on her forehead, probably from when she conked out after being hit in the back of the head.

He nodded, more focused on mending the cut now visible on her forehead.

“Hold still, this may sting,” he warned as he gently applied disinfectant (crushed aloe if he remembered correctly) to the cut, his tail wrapping around a roll of bandages and tossing it up, the Septarian putting down the used cotton wad to catch the roll without looking up. Hm… perhaps I should put something there as well… maybe there’s some healing pads, or do those not work on demons…?

Hekapoo blinks in surprise as she feels him move her bangs to apply the disinfectant to her cut. She had to keep all her attention on trying not to flush. Her flame glowing a bit brighter as he started to clean the cut.

“Y-you don’t have to… it’s really no big deal..”

“No no, I insist.” He picked up an unused healing pad, tearing a large enough portion to cover the injury, pulling off a good length of bandage and applying it.

“I understand Demons are hardier than Mewmen, but that doesn’t mean you can’t catch disease.”

Hekapoo huffed slightly, letting him tend to her. She wouldn’t admit it, but she was grateful that he cared… she didn’t have that many people in her life that did until she became the forger of the dimension scissors and part of the magic Commission. “…we’re less likely to catch diseases since they stem from us so they say.”

He gave a snort at that. “I highly doubt it. The same thing is often said of Rat Monsters, yet they get sick just as frequently as non-rodent monsters.”

He checked one last time before nodding in satisfaction and putting things away. “That’s the best I can do for now, but hopefully it will work.”

Hekapoo lightly put her bangs back over the wound once the other was done. “Despite my protests… uh thank you Toffee, I really appreciate your help..” she said while pushing a stray strand behind her ear before glancing around as she heard something. “…uh oh.. we better get moving.”

He nodded, finishing up on putting the medical supplies away. “What direction do you hear them from?”

Demons were said to have a better sense of hearing (or senses in general) than most creatures, so it wasn’t too surprising she heard something before him.

Many of them are old stories that eventually became the backbones for most of Monster society’s laws,” he explained, not certain how much of it she could read. “It’s quite fascinating to see what my ancestors based their laws off of, and why. They did what they could to make their laws fair to each species it governed, and used these stories instead of prejudice or anything overly complicated to explain--you have to remember that not many Monsters knew how to read at that time.”

Not that many Monsters knew now, but it was a substantial number in that it was a positive number...

Hekapoo smiles a bit as she shrugs slightly. “I don’t mind, besides it’s not like I have anything planned for today aside from enjoying my time with you.” She said while looking at them, lacing her hands behind her back with an amused look. She really didn’t have any duties today, so she had plenty of time to listen to him talk about what he wanted.

… that was never going to cease in effectively making him freeze for a few seconds.

“Well let’s see…” he muttered once his brain unfroze, looking to the closest shelf (anywhere but her, he’d freeze up again and twice in a row would probably make him die from embarrassment) and plucking a shabby-looking book from between two rather large volumes.

“Good, the maids hadn’t found it,” he remarked in relief, handing Heckapoo the aged book. “I’ve had to restore parts of it myself, what with how old it is, but this is the oldest record of Monster history. It was originally a scroll, but in order to better hide it when the Mewmen invaded, which is around where the records stop, it was hurriedly cut into pieces and made into a book. As such unfortunately, some pieces are still missing. Still, it’s one of the oldest artifacts we have of Monster history,” he added, grinning at being able to tell this to someone (well, aside from Moon who already knew this), “and as many Monster stories were told through word-of-mouth, it’s possible some of the elder Monsters could help fill in the blanks!” … if they weren’t killed due to unlawful discrimination or starvation, but he was trying to be optimistic for his guest’s sake.

Her gaze was wide as she carefully placed it on a table before starting to flip through it. “Wow… Toffee this is incredible. How did you manage to find such a thing?” She said while casting the other a look, she was clearly impressed as well as astounded. This could help her understand monster culture even more and maybe help Mewmans see that Monsters aren’t that bad… but maybe not right now since it was clear that there views weren’t the best…

“I was scavenging with a small party of Monsters,” he explained. “Looking through ruins of what used to be Monster villages and towns, when we found it among the remnants of a burned-down house. I hid it among my gear when we neared the castle and told Mo--the Princess about it, since she is mostly merciful towards Monsters, and she instructed me to hide it among the thicker tomes of the Royal Library here during one of our tutoring sessions. We change the location during every lesson to keep it out of the staff’s hands lest it be lost. So far we have been successful, as you can see.”
