A quick tutorial/cheat sheet on how I draw kisses!! I’m going to assume you already know how to draw a head and how to angle it, because that’s an entire procedure in itself. I’m going to focus on mainly the lips and also try and tackle some common mistakes when you’re first starting out.
Pursing the lips
So this is boring but crucial. If you don’t purse, their is no real kiss (take notes) bc placing your lips on top of someone else’s is not how you kiss… The most important part are the corners of the mouth, especially from the side view, because that’s what changes the most.
The actual kissing yeee
Let’s start do a basic side view kiss on the lips. And believe it or not, I think this one is the hardest!
Think about which parts of the face are going to be in front of the other! This can take some time to get the hang of, but once you get that down it’s easy. Also, focus on getting the heads at the right distance and angle. A common mistake is drawing them too close.
The Lightning Shape:
Still keeping in mind which part of the line is “Red’s” upper lip and which part is “Blue’s” lower lip, play around with the shape of the lightning. Very subtle changes can have a very strong impact! I usually go by feel, so take your time, but here are some things to look out for:
Details squishing etc.
So yeah once the lightning shape looks good, I usually add details and squish parts of the face that will touch. Which usually includes the noses, but from this angle they won’t squish unless you intend on making nice big noses <3. By now it should look something like this:
You don’t have to add the corners of the mouth! I usually do when I want to show that the character is smiling.
One technique used a lot in anime/manga + other cartoony art styles, is fading lines where two soft-ish objects press hard against each other. The picture above explains it.
Common mistakes
Getting down the crucial kissing part of fanart is hard and you will mess upp SO MANY TIIIIIIMES, but you learn from your mistakes, so don’t be discouraged. There are some things though that I frequently see when people draw kisses that makes it look awkward and stale, many of which I used to do myself. Here are some examples:
Try your best to avoid these. Most of the mistakes have little to do with the lips and more to do with the angle of the head. So getting that down before you move on to the lips is important.
¾ view Kissing
There are not a lot of angles where you actually see the lips meet (or at least not that I can draw…). Depending on how the heads are placed in relation to each other, you may or may not see the lips in a ¾ view. The way I have demonstrated is done in a way that the nose will bump into the other’s upper cheek.
Aaand that’s about it! These things will make more and more sense the more you draw them. At first it can seem very hard with so many things to keep track of, and it is, but practice makes perfect!
Rule of thumb: does the angle and position of the heads make sense? How are the lips going to align? What parts of the face are going to be in front of the other? How much will the lips purse? And finally, what is going to squish?

- Believed that Indian women who were raped lost their value as a human.
- During his time as a dissident in South Africa, he discovered that a young male was harassing two of his female followers. He responded by cutting the girls’ hair off to ensure the “sinner’s eye” was “sterilized.” He later boasted about the incident in his writings, pushing the message to all Indians that women should carry responsibility for sexual attacks upon them.
- Argued that fathers could be justified in killing daughters who had been sexually assaulted for the sake of family and community honor.
- Believed that menstruation was a manifestation of the distortion of a woman’s soul by her sexuality.
- Waged a war against contraceptives, labeling Indian women who used them as whores.
- Held the attitude that women were simply creatures that could bring either pride or shame to the men who own them.

i really wish platonic relationships were more important. i’m tired of losing friendships because i’m less important than their significant other. i hate that i’m automatically not as close to my friends because i’m not the person they’re dating/sleeping with. and i hate how whenever i complain about it the response is “you’ll find someone too someday!” like no I shouldn’t have to “find someone” to feel loved and important, maybe we should stop promoting investing all your time and effort and physical and emotional intimacy into one romantic/sexual partner idk
I wasn’t asked to a single dance in high school and didn’t have a serious romantic relationship until I was 22. And like, yeah that shit hurt when I was younger. I had a lot of fears that I was unlovable and that I didn’t deserve to be happy. And every time I would try to talk to anyone about it, the conversation became, “you’ll find someone”, when it should have been, “you don’t need a relationship or a date, you’re lovable & complete & beautiful on your own”.
So yeah, please normalize young people not dating, and please stop shaming them for it. There’s more to life than romance, despite what the media wants us to think.
How the Netflix-funded American 'Death Note' movie took the manga to new horror heights
The guys behind Netflix’s Death Note are scrambling to rebrand their product and it’s kinda gross.
First, let’s take note of Wingard’s poor hurt feelings uwu:
“It’s kind of annoying when they say, ‘This is the next ‘Dragonball: Evolution,’” he said on a recent afternoon in Hollywood, wincing at the notion of equating his “Death Note” to the cartoonish 2009 critical and commercial failure. “It’s just such a completely different thing.”
Still, he felt the pain of the fans who counted down to Friday’s streaming debut ready to scrawl his name into their own Death Notes.
“The anime community has just been beaten down so badly by so many bad adaptations that their immediate reaction is to lash out at you before you have a chance to hurt them,” he said with a sympathetic smile. “From the very get-go I found myself in a place where I was being told that I was ruining ‘Death Note,’ before anything had been decided.”
Wingard is now blaming fans for not liking his film by saying that we didn’t give him a chance. Except that this is totally not even true.
Fans started notably lashing out at Death Note after the decision to cast white actors, and the backlash was in relation to the whitewashing. And Wingard’s ongoing silence in regards to that, and how he handled interviews later (and what he chose to discuss in those interviews instead), shows that he was not being color-conscious about the decision. He had no idea what the implication of casting white actors in these roles even meant. Wingard is dismissing all of that by pretending he doesn’t know what we were criticizing.
His density is like a superpower.
On to the rebranding bullshit:
Fans online have decried the remake for delivering takes on “Death Note” characters that are different than the versions they know and love from the manga. But Wingard argues that a contemporary American context necessitates a different Light, especially in a post-election United States, where extreme violence by white nationalist groups is on the rise. The timing gives new dimension to the story’s ethical tug of war over moral gray areas and vigilante justice.
“He feels like he’s saving the world and has an overinflated sense of self-importance,” said Wingard, seated in a Hollywood coffee shop just days after a gathering of white nationalists and neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, Va., turned deadly. He was already in post-production on the film when Donald Trump was elected and notes that the subtext is accidental but present.
“I think that’s where the movie eventually went, and I think that’s why we ended up making [L] sort of the hero of the film. I do hope that people read it that way, because I think ultimately that’s what it became in the post-Trump America,” he said,
No. The thing is, the film isn’t morally grey, it’s morally absent. You can’t take a white boy who nonchalantly kills criminals to get laid, who then murders his girlfriend, whose cop father threatens a black man and knows son is guilty of murder and forgives him, and display his journey sympathetically and simply call that moral ambiguity.
Wingard depicted a typical white boy who uses violence for his own selfish ends and then forgives him in the story by blaming his victims. That’s not subtext, that’s not ambiguous, that’s what happened. The subtext is that Light is the real victim and should totally be forgiven by the audience.
Now he’s trying to say, in not so many words because he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, that the white privilege is an important part of the story. But you can’t just depict white privilege and call it a day. There’s no moral ambiguity because the film narrative doesn’t examine the structure of privilege or call it out. It’s just white privilege, and it’s lazy, and there’s nothing grey or moral about it. It’s a problem and it’s partly why Death Note is getting such negative reviews.
