said novel also appears in the hands of a character on the tv show riverdale
shortly before this iconic exchange
i’m not making any point with this it’s just that the connection from jensen ackles being homophobic to “the gargoyle king wants us to be a ship” are making me go completely insane goodbye
Black Family Headcanons
Here are 50 headcanons about the various members of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black throughout the years …
Sirius Black I spent much of his short life in St. Mungo’s due to his ill health. Many of the healers who attended him where Muggle-born and little Sirius was struck by their kindness and generosity. Had he survived, the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black might have been a more tolerant clan.
Phineas Nigellus Black was Headmaster of Hogwarts from 1893-1922, whilst his wife Ursula served as Matron. They did not love each other, but they did hold a grudging respect for the other.
Elladora Black first started beheading house-elves when one particularly ancient servant stumbled and scalded her with tea.
Iola Black is the only one of her siblings to live a long life. She passed away at the age of 122 surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild – all of them Squibs and Half-Bloods.
It was Elladora who blasted Phineas Black II off the family tree, much to Ursula’s fury. She would walk with a cane for the rest of her life because of what her sister-in-law did to her.
Sirius Black II and Henry Potter were frequently at loggerheads with each other over their views on World War One. Privately, each would admit to their wives that the other was a rather great wizard – if irritating.
Phineas Black II was born in 1881 and was a great friend of Albus Dumbledore. He even joined the Order of the Phoenix and fought in the First Wizarding War before being killed by Evan Rosier in combat.
Belvina Burke’s husband, Herbert, was the grandson of Cantankerous Burke, co-founder of Borgin and Burke’s. Her greatest shame was that she produced a Squib for a son – Nigellus.
Arcturus Black II’s favourite daughter was Cedrella. When she ran away to marry Septimus Weasley, Arcturus blasted her off the family tree to stop her from coming back – because he knew she’d be happier with Septimus.
Cygnus Black II died in 1943 quite suddenly and without any previous indication that he had been ill. The day before, his wife Violetta had discovered that their Squib son Marius’ “accidental” death aged 8 was not as accidental as Cygnus had led her to believe.
When their husbands died, Hesper Gamp-Black, Lysandra Yaxley-Black and Violetta Bulstrode-Black retired to Crete to live out their years bickering with each other and tempering with ancient magic.
Arcturus Black III despised Albus Dumbledore with a passion because he was amongst his first students and hated the serene superiority that the professor held over him.
Melania Macmillan-Black once hexed Lycoris Black for slapping a house-elf in front of her. It was very discreet and no-one other than an amused Arcturus ever found out it was her.
Lycoris had a long-time affair with Vinda Rosier, until her death in combat.
Regulus Black I was the only one of his cousins to attend Durmstrang rather than Hogwarts. He ended up becoming their greatest duelling champion.
Callidora and Cassiopeia Black were often mistaken for sisters because of how inseparable they were in their Hogwarts days.
Cedrella Black was supposed to marry Abraxas Malfoy but spurned him when she eloped with Septimus Weasley. Much of the hostility between their sons stems from this slight.
Charis Black was the mother of Bartemius Crouch Sr. She doted on him and tried to shield him from the worst of his father’s rages.
Pollux Black was the interim Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot before Albus Dumbledore was elected into the position in 1979 – a position which he made sure nobody forgot.
Pollux was seduced by Irma Crabbe into conceiving their daughter Walburga. He had wanted to marry the much kinder and gentler Martha Orpington but, as Irma was pregnant, he did the honourable thing and married her. Their sham of a marriage never recovered.
Cassiopeia had an illicit affair when she was 15 that resulted in the birth of her bastard daughter Araminta Meliflua Black. She never revealed the identity of the father and it was only because her grandmother Ursula defended her that she was not disowned.
Marius Black was found face-down in the pond behind his father’s estate when he was 8 years’ old. Cassiopeia had to fish his corpse out of the water because Dorea couldn’t swim and Pollux didn’t want to.
Dorea Black was a skilled mediwitch during the Global Wizarding War and, whilst her husband Charlus Potter fought on the front lines with the other Aurors, she healed the casualties in the tents. She never forgot the horrors she witnessed till her dying day.
Lucretia and Walburga Black were best friends during their time at Hogwarts. They would sneak out of History of Magic to smoke in the girl’s lavatory on the 2nd Floor – where they sometimes ran into the mysterious Tom Riddle.
Lucretia had a more tolerant view of Muggle-borns than her family but, like Dorea Potter, she was not disowned. Her marriage to Ignatius Prewett was deemed acceptable – even if she spent too much time in the pockets of his blood-traitor relations.
Orion Black was perhaps one of the most powerful wizards of his generation but was so reserved and stoic it was hard to tell. He never liked to draw attention to himself, unlike his show-off elder son and wife.
Orion was in love with Walburga for six years before he drummed up the courage to ask his mother if there was any chance a betrothal contract could be drawn up. She teased him for a week afterwards.
Orion never told anyone, not even his wife, that he was dying in 1979. His shock death two months before his son’s was a devastating blow to his family.
Walburga Black had a fierce rivalry with Minerva McGonagall during their time at Hogwarts together. They were always two of the last three standing in duelling competitions, the other being Augusta Fawcett (later Longbottom).
Walburga found it difficult to express emotions she felt made her feel weak – even around her beloved husband and sons. She would rather curse and shout than cry and embrace someone.
When Sirius ran away from home, Walburga cried for three days and never left her bedchamber. Orion and Regulus could hear her through the walls.
In the years after Regulus and Orion died and Sirius was incarcerated, Walburga was catatonic in grief. The once-proud matriarch of the House of Black became a recluse who drank too much and gave her house-elf ridiculous chores to do. Her death was a relief to her parents more than anything.
Alphard Black never married nor did he have children He did, however, take many lovers – wizard, witch, Muggle and Squib – over the period of his life.
A blood malediction on his mother’s side guaranteed Alphard around forty/fifty years live. He died aged 49.
Cygnus Black III was a serial cheat who had numerous affairs throughout his marriage to Druella. Most of them were kept quiet to avoid a scandal, though Druella was mortified.
Cygnus and Druella’s greatest shame was that they could not produce a son to carry on the Black family name. Cygnus was pleased by Bellatrix’s bloodlust but thought she should know her place more in the presence of wizards and Druella favoured Narcissa because of her great beauty and natural grace and decorum.
Druella Rosier-Black was the aunt of Death Eater Evan Rosier and the niece of Linda Rosier. An affinity for the darkest of arts was as much in her blood as Cygnus’.
Bellatrix Black spent much of her childhood pulling the wings off insects and terrorising her sisters and younger cousins.
Bellatrix never loved Rodolphus; her heart was always split between the Dark Lord – who allowed her to unleash the full fury of her rage and cruelty – and Rabastan – who she had been having an affair with since Hogwarts.
The result of their affair was Delphini – whom a jealous Rodolphus convinced was the daughter of the Dark Lord and Bella.
Andromeda Black is one of only three witches who have bested Bellatrix in a duel – the other two being Amelia Bones and Alice Longbottom.
Andromeda first met Ted Tonks in 6th Year Potions when Professor Slughorn paired them up; for the rest of her school career they carried out a clandestine romance.
Andromeda became a mother-figure to Harry Potter after the Second War, who helped her raise her orphaned grandson Teddy.
Narcissa Black was the most dangerous of her sisters – not hot-headed like Bella nor too wilful like Dromeda, Cissy was cunning, sly and had the potential for great cruelty.
Narcissa and Lucius never changed their beliefs after the Second War; both of them clung to the notion of pure-blood supremacy to the point that family gatherings with their son became somewhat tense.
Sirius Black III’s relationship with his parents was difficult and messy; on one hand he did genuinely love them but couldn’t understand them or their supremacist beliefs. He was too much of a Gryffindor to cope with their scheming and plotting amongst each other that he had enough and snapped.
Sirius never called Fleamont and Euphemia Potter “Dad” or “Mum.” He respectfully called them Mrs and Mrs Potter till their deaths.
Sirius spent some time on the run being tended to by his grandmother Melania in what he had thought was an abandoned chalet. She died two weeks after he left for Britain to help Harry during the Triwizard Tournament but he never forgot the kindness she bestowed upon him in her final weeks.
Regulus Black II was inducted into the Death Eaters by Evan Rosier along with Barty Crouch Jr. He only joined up with the Dark Lord because he thought he could make his parents happy following Sirius’ estrangement with them. He was wrong.
Quidditch offered Regulus a chance to relax at Hogwarts. There was something liberating for the quiet little Slytherin to be zooming about on the pitch without having to worry about family honour and tradition.
