harry didnāt grow up with stories of james potter, the indian boy who ran through hogwarts, loud and proud and full of life. he didnāt know that his fatherās voice would fill the great hall with laughter, or that james would argue passionately in defense of his culture, unafraid to bring the fire of his heritage into every room he walked into.
but as harry gets older, he starts piecing things together, collecting fragments of a man who left echoes behind him. he learns from professors that james would use his wand to create vibrant garlands during festivals, brightening the gryffindor common room with colors his classmates had never seen. heād coax sirius into trying spicy food theyād never even heard of, laughing as they both coughed and spluttered but insisted on more. and when they celebrated deepavali, james would tell them, grinning with pride, about how it wasnāt just a festival of lights, but a reminder of resilience, of the light within that never dims. he'd shown that same resilience during the war.
harry hears whispers from people who knew his fatherāthe way james insisted on using tamil compliments because they āsounded much better,ā the way he would answer teachers in tamil just to remind everyone where he came from. the way heād refer to remus as ānanbaaā (friend), that special affection saved for the people who shared your burdens. how he called lily his āthangamā (gold) because of the colour her hair shone in the sunlight.
and slowly, harry begins to reclaim pieces of his father. he learns how to wrap a veshti, stubbornly practicing until he gets it right, because he knows itās something james wouldāve worn proudly. he finds comfort in the smell of his dadās favorite spices, brings them with him to work as his own quiet rebellion, and teaches ron and hermione how to roll up chapatis late at night in grimmauld place.
I absolutely love Indian harry potter head cannons with my whole heart. There's some definite hate for them and people liking those HCs for the wrong reasons, but I think they add a new layer to prejudice he faces, explains why the dursleys and their neighbours hate a child so much and it also distances him from J*Rs books. (Sorry if any of that is offensive, I'm willing to listen to actual poc opinions on it but those are just my thoughts rn)
I know I said Steve is more math smart than english smart and that he'd have a hard time in history as well... but he should also be very political and know what the fuck he's talking about.
Punk Steve is rather popular, yet the ideologies and politics that are associated with the punk movement seem to be forgotten whenever he's brought up, which is a real shame cause I think he'd really agree with it. Like, let's say before he discovers punk, the clothes or the music, or the hair, he reads a lot of books.
This is such a good take, and I agree so much with him forming these opinions and beliefs before leaning into the look. I think that the upside down should've affected him more than st showed. I think during his character arc he would start to be a lot more 'fuck the government' and your HC works well with that. Though I do think he would be more vocal about it, especially with robbin and Eddie, I personally don't think they would dismiss his opinions.
But Punk!Steve has my heart, he's been so screwed over by the government he deserves to rebel and be vocal and be the opposite of what people expect him to be, because he's tired of trying to fulfill the expectations others have for him.
