"My body, my choice" only makes sense when someone else’s life isn’t at stake.
Fun fact: If my younger sister was in a car accident and desperately needed a blood transfusion to live, and I was the only person on Earth who could donate blood to save her, and even though donating blood is a relatively easy, safe, and quick procedure no one can force me to give blood. Yes, even to save the life of a fully grown person, it would be ILLEGAL to FORCE me to donate blood if I didn’t want to.
See, we have this concept called “bodily autonomy.” It’s this….cultural notion that a person’s control over their own body is above all important and must not be infringed upon.
Like, we can’t even take LIFE SAVING organs from CORPSES unless the person whose corpse it is gave consent before their death. Even corpses get bodily autonomy.
To tell people that they MUST sacrifice their bodily autonomy for 9 months against their will in an incredibly expensive, invasive, difficult process to save what YOU view as another human life (a debatable claim in the early stages of pregnancy when the VAST majority of abortions are performed) is desperately unethical. You can’t even ask people to sacrifice bodily autonomy to give up organs they aren’t using anymore after they have died.
You’re asking people who can become pregnant to accept less bodily autonomy than we grant to dead bodies.
reblogging for commentary
But, assuming the mother wasn’t raped, the choice to HAVE a baby and risk sacrificing their “bodily autonomy” is a choice that the mother made. YOu don’t have to have sex with someone. Cases of rape aside, it isn’t ethical to say abortion is justified. The unborn baby has rights, too.
First point: Bodily autonomy can be preserved, even if another life is dependent on it. See again the example about the blood donation.
And here’s another point: When you say that “rape is the exception” you betray something FUNDAMENTALLY BROKEN about your own argument.
Because a fetus produced from sexual assault is biologically NO DIFFERENT than a fetus produced from consensual sex. No difference at all.
If one is alive, so is the other. If one is a person, so is the other. If one has a soul, then so does the other. If one is a little blessing that happened for a reason and must be protected, then so is the other.
When you say that “Rape is the exception” what you betray is this: It isn’t about a life. This isn’t about the little soul sitting inside some person’s womb, because if it was you wouldn’t care about HOW it got there, only that it is a little life that needs protecting.
When you say “rape is the exception” what you say is this: You are treating pregnancy as a punishment. You are PUNISHING people who have had CONSENSUAL SEX but don’t want to go through a pregnancy. People who DARED to have consensual sex without the goal of procreation in mind, and this is their “consequence.”
And that is gross.
This has been added to since I last saw it, so reblogging again.

Okay, they actually dressed up a ninja and did ninja moves. That makes this a billion times more awesome than it already was.
THIS IS NIGA HIGA ON YOUTUBE. AT LEAST GIVE HIM THE CREDIT FOR ITS NIGA HIGA. RYAN HIGA.
Adorable. Imagine the detailed work of the hair movement which is on point.
Somebody put so much love into the animation of those curls.
don’t they usually animate hair like this with physics rather than actually animate it by hand?
Correct, hair is usually done using a physics simulation because to individually animate every strand (or even just every cluster) would take months or years.
CG hair actually has a pretty amazing history. If we go back to 2004, the time of The Incredibles (which notably features the long-haired character of Violet) long hair was basically impossible. The physics calculations would make it wrap against itself and stick in place or violently fly around haphazardly. The Incredibles had to engineer the technology to simulate Violet’s hair mid-production to get it to work as well as it looks in the final release (they also did great work with wet hair too).
Prior to that, the best example is 2001’s Shrek, where hair simulation had to be done wholesale for the character of Donkey and for Princess Fiona’s braid. Having the hair be short or restricted in its movement made it a lot easier to simulate, but Shrek was still very pivotal in how fabric simulation progressed (a whole other can of worms, to say the least).
Now we have movies like Monsters Inc. and How to Train Your Dragon, where not only is hair varied in style, length, and volume, but it’s all simulated with physics rather than animated in the traditional fashion. Characters like Sully or Stoic the Vast would have been utterly impossible only 10 years ago.
So yeah, it’s maybe a little bit of a let-down to find out that hair such as in these gifs isn’t hand-crafted on a frame-by-frame basis, but that doesn’t really make it any less impressive I think.
trans people taking testosterone need to drink orange juice cause testosterone weakens your immune system!! trans people taking estrogen need to drink milk cause estrogen causes calcium to be absorbed less
If you’re lactose intolerant you can eat nuts and if you’re allergic to oranges, most other fruits have vitamin c. If fruits aren’t an option, there’s also vitamin c supplements.
Good info. Pass it on.
So a friend of mine told me how her girlfriends' students (who's a primary teacher, this convo is with a bunch of 11 year olds) found out how she was gay.
BEFORE:
students: *had been asking before if her partner/lover was going to be at the school dinner* (note: the actual word used was "lief", which is dutch word that is like boyfriend of girlfriend but does not have a gender)
students: Miss, is he going to come? Is he?
teacher: You'll see.
AT THE SCHOOL DINNER:
students: Miss, miss! He's not here! Why is he not here?
the teachers' mom and girlfriend: *laughing so ridiculously hard*
students: Really miss, why isn't he here?
teacher: What do you mean? She's here!
students: Oh!
students: Are you two going to get married? Can we be the bridesmaids?
FOR REAL. Those kids did not even pause, all they wanted to know was if they could be the bridesmaids at the wedding. And they were really said when the teacher and her girlfriend shake their heads meaning no. That's how much kids care about sexuality.:

By all means, normalize, aspire, study, work, seek acceptance. But do know that this is not the only successful way of living a queer life
Dhamini Ratnam on the Satyameva Jayate episode.
You can also visit us at http://www.satyamevjayate.in Episode 3 of Satyamev Jayate looks at the unfounded perceptions and biases that the LGBT – Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender – community in India have to battle.
Here is the link to the widely spoken about episode of Satyameva jayate on accepting alternative sexualities and gender preferences. It was quite a decent episode, I thought, though not without critique of course. Speaking about queer people and rights on a popular television show in India is still a big step, and what more, even Doordarshan aired it! But it is important to remember that this is just that, a step, in the direction of change. It is important to remember that most queer people in India are not as lucky as the once who so bravely come on the show. So make sure that you don’t just stop with call the hotline number or spouting about the episode to others and actually take action to reduce the ever prevalent homophobia and conservatism present in the society. Stop using ‘gay’ as an insult. Stop calling people a 'faggot’ or 'lesbo’ or 'chakka’ derogatorily. If a friend comes out to you, support her or him truly. If you are uncomfortable then clearly state that you’re uncomfortable. Don’t leave them guessing or, worse, pretend that everything is hunky dory. Tell your kids that it’s okay if they are gay or lesbian or bisexual or if they are not okay with their assigned gender and MEAN IT. Please please please don’t try to “cure” them or “change” them or “help” them.
Do let me know what you thought about the episode.
