Amanita muscaria, commonly known as the fly agaric or fly amanita, is a poisonous and psychoactive basidiomycete fungus, one of many in the genus Amanita. The fly agaric is larger and more colourful than the other “'shrooms.” It is very common in Nova Scotian forests, especially beneath evergreen. Although it is generally considered poisonous, deaths from its consumption are extremely rare, Amanita muscaria is noted for its hallucinogenic properties.
