Bob Paulson told the Assembly of First Nations annual meeting that the Mounties pledge to 'put action to words'

This article directly speaks to the current state of relationship building, as it exists right now between the RCMP and the Federal Government, and Indigenous peoples. While relationship building is used as a “buzz word” in the article, it’s clear that many commitments have been made to improve relations by the RCMP and the Federal Government, but no action has been taken. Truth telling is at hand here, in the way in which guarantees are made, yet so far have not been upheld. This article is also significant, as it includes a direct quote from the RCMP commissioner Bob Paulson, directly stating that racism is a problem within the RCMP.

We continue to celebrate Columbus Day (in the United States), despite the implications that Columbus’ landing had for Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island (and the entire Americas). This directly hinders relationship building with a federal government, and a society, that continues to glorify the legacy of Columbus.

from what i’ve heard, the wauneita club was a club of white women who were fascinated by cree people, and engaged in all sorts of exotification and cooptation of their cultural practices while they lived in this building. this sign apparently doesn’t translate into cree well (nonsensical gibberish, is what i think i remember the cree elder/professor saying).

I am reblogging this in relation to our first day of class. The original post explains what is in the picture. However, subsequent commentary (by @fakemeet) is extremely illuminating and serves to historically contextualize something that could otherwise be easily misinterpreted. This truth-telling is an act of decolonizing our campus.

Briarpatch is in an urgent financial crunch.

I chose to post this article as it relates directly to problems faced by many independent new media sources. As we saw in the article by Leanne Simpson and also the piece by Ryan McMahon, dead hyperlinks are a recurring problem with independent news sources. This article on the Briar Patch Magazine demonstrates this issue, although due to the breadth of their audience it seems like they will reach their fundraising goal -- this is not always the case, as we see with the aforementioned sources.

I feel as though this really connects to truth-telling, relationship building and Indigenous ways of understanding. It truth-tells by saying that Indigenous culture is a way of life, something that is believe in. Not something that is done for the fun of it. It is building relationships and understanding through that truth-telling. Allowing viewers to become aware and more understanding of Indigenous culture.
