Hey!

We're Indigo, a system of (as far as we know) two. We're bodily around 30, read a lot, and study molecular biology while dealing with a few chronic health issues. Individually, we are S (he/him), chaotic good and lawful evil in one oversized nonhuman fictive, and L (she/her or they/them), an enthusiastic ace dork who is some kind of dragon-hearted/kin and would absolutely live in a library given the chance. We're both generally very friendly and talkative, especially about system things and comparing notes across different experiences of multiplicity. (Our own system origins aren't particularly straightforward, so for discourse or DNI purposes, consider us endogenic with an asterisk). This blog is intended to be SFW, and we'll do our best to tag content warnings appropriately, though we're new to using Tumblr and will almost certainly mess up occasionally.

Do you have any resources on how to color Black characters in gray scale? It’s for a comic done in inkwash so everything is shades of black and grey.

This question happens kind of often, I'm realizing. Just use grey. Differing amounts of grey depending on how dark the person is. And then use lighting as a way to highlight the features, so we can still see them. Less shadows, but some faint shadowing will help with that effect as well.

Like I can still tell that she's Black. Every regular rule still applies for her features! But for her skin, you can see the color in her skin without seeing the color, if that makes sense.

I would also seek out (and study!) Black artists and ask them this question. Particularly those that work in darker color palettes or even comic artists! Plenty of people who sketch on here. I'll leave this here for them to notice.

OP has moved blogs so I don't have the source on this anymore but they made some follow up posts explaining that they worded the final answer that way bcos they'd had some people complain about a previous poll they made on a different subject being insufficiently inclusive and they wanted to make sure all bases were covered. this is also presumably why it has an exasperated tone to it.

the Goncharov one does particularly annoy me bcos with the arguable exception of Goncharov himself all the characters people were memeing about (Katya, Andrey, Ice Pick Joe) were beelzeebub's OCs and yet most people don't seem to be aware of their influence.
