Hey guys so today's poems is shorter then the others ones and at first glance it kinda seems really simple and it is but it's also really emotional. This poem is beautiful because of the emotion it portrays, we have a girl not just wanting but craving love and acceptance in the poem she says "whoever I am whoever I become love me"  And I love that the writer decided to but that in there because it just makes everything more real. I think the vulnerability of the poem is something we can all relate to. Let me know what you guys think, did you like it, did you interpret it in a different way?

Leave Me Alone, I've Tried

My stitched heart is wide open, Can you see what I went through, All the pain and suffering I've been, Coping and no one even knew, These scars are a symbol, To remind me of who, I never want to be again. I'm drowning under high waters, And I'm high from my tragedies, Stop making things harder, And just get further away from me, My soul can't get any darker, If that's all you wanted to see, I'm sorry but... My stitched heart is wide open, Can you see what I went through, All the pain and suffering I've been, Coping and no one even knew, These scars are a symbol, To remind me of who, I never want to be again. I've tried to give you my hand, But betrayal is your middle name, I'm not a simple man, A kiss wasn't enough to stop this pain, You simply turned away and ran, I'm not the blame, But... I asked God to take my pain away.God said, No.It is not for me to take away,but for you to give it up. I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.God said, No.Her spirit was whole,her body was only temporary. I asked God to grant me patience.God said, No.Patience is a by-product of tribulations,it isn't granted, it is earned. I asked God to give me happiness.God said, No.I give you blessings,Happiness is up to you. I asked God to spare me pain.God said, No.Suffering draws you apart from worldly caresand brings you closer to me. I asked God to make my spirit grow.God said, No.You must grow on your own,but I will prune you to make you fruitful. I asked for all things that I might enjoy life.God said, No.I will give you lifeso that you may enjoy all things. I ask God to help me LOVE others, as much as he loves me.God said... Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.

I debated picking this as my next poem to share with you guys because I know not everyone believes in God but the many messages in the poem I believe are something everyone needs to see and understand. I don't think the poem is hard to understand therefore I'm not gonna explain it but I will give you guys this: •Pain isn't going to be taken away magically, give it up. •Your body is TEMPORARY your spirit is what matters and WILL last FOREVER•The trials and tribulations you will experience will benefit you at the end of the day•Remain in touch with whatever higher power you believe in •Life is hard, life is fun, life is complicated.. Life is a lot of things but there's a reason for that everything teaches you something (which is actually what the firsts poem I did touched on  "Did I miss anything")

Nothing is ever handed to you that's life.

News, Updates, Love!

Hey everyone! Thank you for the ongoing support of all the branches (Indigo Scribes, Indigo School, Indigo Poets). I just wanted to brush everyone up on some news and updates, since I’m sure you all have noticed the changes. 

1. Indigo Poets launched! If you write poetry, please join @indigopoets! There are a lot of fun activities within the group, including sharing your poetry, sharing videos of you performing your poetry, interacting with other poets, and more! Go over to their blog if you have any questions.

2. Indigo School’s meetups have, unfortunately, been postponed. They were supposed to be happening at around this time of the month, but a little more organizing needs to happen before we can do it. The year is not over and we can still do some any time, but as for right now we are making no promises. 

3. We are no longer using the name “The Indigo Branch”! As you’ve noticed, we are now called On the Indigo Tree, Indigo Tree for short, OTIT for an acronym. The name-change took place for several reasons; because of those reasons, it just works better. Each group is now called a Branch. You can find us on Twitter with this name, @ontheindigotree. (Note: this organization is in its very early stages, so don’t be surprised if/when more changes occur.)

4. There is a new branch coming! I won’t give too many details about it, but all I can say is that it is the brainchild of Indigo School’s members. It won’t function exactly like the other branches will, but more like a partner of Indigo School itself. 

5. This is something that will be happening further in the future, but: we will be launching an online publication! I could say online magazine or newspaper, but I don’t want to limit your expectations of it too much. The idea is still in development stages and I don’t want to give everything away. For now, all I’ll say is that each branch and things relating to that branch will have their own section in it, plus things that won’t be featured on that branch’s Tumblr/website. It’ll be fun :)

6. Each branch is STILL looking for administrators/helpers! If you want more information about that, just go to our ask page and tell us you’re interested.

“She Didn’t Mean To Do It” by Daisy Fried

Oh, she was sad, oh, she was sad. She didn’t mean to do it.

Certain thrills stay tucked in your limbs, go no further than your fingers, move your legs through their paces, but no more. Certain thrills knock you flat on your sheets on your bed in your room and you fade and they fade. You falter and they’re gone, gone, gone. Certain thrills puff off you like smoke rings, some like bell rings growing out, out, turning brass, steel, gold, till the whole world’s filled with the gonging of your thrills.

But oh, she was sad, she was just sad, sad, and she didn’t mean to do it.

The poem is about a girl who made a mistake that's not specified, her sadness being the main cause of whatever she did then it just talks very metaphorically  about sadness and how it takes over.

I really like this poem because it explains pain how you don't wanna be in pain but it's there its nuclear it takes over. I also really like it because it gets me thinking things aren't written straight forward in the poem it's very metaphorical and I love that.

POC Youth: Showcase your Talents!

Okay so you may remember me from this post, where I announced that I’d be starting a magazine geared toward people of color. Now that I’ve organized things, my friend Cynthia and I are ready to showcase the talent of all POC youth!

The magazine, called Jaded Magazine, will have an entire column dedicated to highlighting all the creative things POC do. If you aren’t sure whether to submit: POC means a person who is not white, or not of full European descent. If that applies, submit to us!

Send your submissions to [email protected]. Please only send your email ONCE. You can only submit for at most two different sections, and you must include in the subject line of your email that you’re applying for two (i.e. Art - Illustration and Writing - Poetry). Please note that you’re submitting for our consideration, this does not mean you will be automatically featured in the magazine.

Every submission should:

Tell us a little about yourself (name, pronouns, race/ethnicity, where you live, etc.)

Tell us your experience with whatever section you’re submitting for, and your motivation or explanation for the specific submission

art (illustration/animation/drawing/painting)

When sending your email, in the subject line, write Art - [whichever kind of art you do]. For example, the subject line could be Art - Painting if you’re a painter!

Please include working links to your art or attach clear images of your art.

#POTD: Prisca’s Poem of the Day

“DID I MISS ANYTHING”

Nothing. When we realized you weren’t here we sat with our hands folded on our desks in silence, for the full two hours

Everything. I gave an exam worth 40 percent of the grade for this term and assigned some reading due today on which I’m about to hand out a quiz worth 50 percent

Nothing. None of the content of this course has value or meaning Take as many days off as you like: any activities we undertake as a class I assure you will not matter either to you or me and are without purpose

Everything. A few minutes after we began last time a shaft of light suddenly descended and an angel or other heavenly being appeared and revealed to us what each woman or man must do to attain divine wisdom in this life and the hereafter This is the last time the class will meet before we disperse to bring the good news to all people on earth.

Nothing. When you are not present how could something significant occur?

Everything. Contained in this classroom is a microcosm of human experience assembled for you to query and examine and ponder

This poem is really interesting to me as you can probably tell it's written in two different point of views. For those who don't understand it there's a person asking "did I miss anything" the poem is the teacher and the student answering those are the two point of views. The student represents "nothing". I think we can all relate to having being asked this and answering nothing cause we don't find school to important which is what he goes into later on in the poem. Now the teacher is represented by the word "everything" she's stating that the student that didn't attend class missed a lot which is also what most teachers will always say or have said. Now going into the poem an angel comes in to tell everyone what they needed to do to attend divine wisdom the teacher then tells the class that it's the last time the class will be together before spreading their wisdom. The way I interpret this is I think the author really just meant that the teacher gave the students a different point of view on school classes. The last time we hear the teacher talk so the last time we see the word "everything" the teacher explains why the class is really important she explain that the class is really filled with experiences waiting for you to examine/interpret/look into. The two last sentences I'm not sure who's talking perhaps it's just someone summarizing the story everything and everywhere in life is an experience and is knowledge ready for you to grasp. Next time you attend class investigate and you never know!

IMPORTANT PSA

Hello all!

Today is September 8th. Tomorrow, Wednesday, I go back to school. Things are going to be a little bit different now, given that my days aren’t free like they were during my summer vacation. I have to actually attend school, and then after school I’ll have to do homework/studying. 

For Indigo Poets, Indigo School, and Indigo Scribes: anyone who sent in any questions, applications and emails, I apologize for the delay in response. I usually keep a 24-hour reply policy, but in preparation for school I wasn’t able to keep up with it. I’m actually going to adjust it to 48 hours (with a 12 hour grace period), so that way you all understand that my responsibilities prevent me from being as prompt as I used to. 

Now that school is starting I’ve been working out how I’m going to manage my time. Indigo Branch was born in the summer so this will be my first time having to balance it and my academic career. Things can go two ways: one, having so many responsibilities will force me to manage my time better and make a precise and detailed plan as to how I’m going to go about this, thus having everything flow smoothly. Or two, it could all collapse on me. 

We all don’t want the latter to happen, so please send me positive energy and love! Thank you, and I’ll be sure to keep you all updated. :)

Poetry Blog Admins

Hey! Indigo Poets is a poetry network where people who write poetry can connect with others, learn, and share their work. We are looking for administrators to help us run things. Keep reading to see if there’s anything you can help out with!

General Co-Manager - The co-manager will be sharing all of my responsibilities. They will help me make sure the other admins are doing their jobs, help me pick the best poetry submissions, help me manage the Poetry Triangles and Poetry Slam, help me make Muse posts almost daily (Muse posts are when we post a picture, quote, song or word and tell our followers to write a poem about it and tag #indigopoetsmuse). They’re going to help me run everything, in a nutshell.

Music Manager - The music manager will use Soundcloud or Spotify to make music playlists for poets. They will also be partially in charge of what songs we use for our Muse posts.

General Journalists - The general journalist will post news on our Tumblr page. They can write about anything, from op-eds to politics. They will be responsible for reporting about current events of all kinds, both within the US and international.

The Advertiser - The advertiser is responsible for spreading the word about Indigo Poets. They will print out posters to put up around their neighborhood and school, they will tell their followers on social media about us, they will reach out to writers and ask them to join/promote us.

Graphics Designer - The graphics designer is responsible for being on-call when we need flyers/posters made for anything. They just need to have experience in graphics design and examples of their work.

Poetry Spy - The poetry spy will be responsible for sharing the poetry of famous poets on our blog. Many people can hold this position, because we will be doing Poem of the Day (#POTD) posts. The poem of the day won’t have to be posted daily, but at least every two days. The Poetry Spies, when they post their #POTD, can even give a little background of why they like the poem or what the poem means to them, and they should always close with the question ‘What does this poem mean to you?’ or ‘What do you think?’.

Social Media Manager - The social media manager is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the Indigo Poets’ Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and more.

To apply to any of these positions, all you have to do is 1. join Indigo Poets and 2. include in your joining application which position you’re applying for! Thank you for your interest, and even if you won’t apply, please reblog so that one of your followers can see it. :)

The Indigo Poets

You probably know me from Indigo Scribes and Indigo School. The next installment of the Indigo Branch networks is here: Indigo Poets! Just like the others, Indigo Poets is a network/family where people who enjoy writing poetry can come together, talk, meet each other, share their poetry, and learn more about their passion. 

If you enjoy writing poetry, this is the place for you. The pages on our blog all explain what we are and what we do. But in a nutshell, you will:  

- submit your poetry to be shared with all of our followers

- submit videos of you reciting/performing your poetry to be shared with all of our followers 

- join monthly poetry groups where you share your poetry with two other people and then write a group poem with them

- have access to “muse” posts where we post inspiring pictures, quotes, and words to spark inspiration

- meet up with other poets in your city to make friends and share poetry

- join poetry clubs to socialize with other poets
