I love SotR* but one big thing about it is that it included so many random elements that I had in my personal fanfictions/AUs and I’m not even kidding.
The biggest one being a birthday on the Reaping and around The Hunger Games season. One of my main OCs has a birthday during the Game’s duration, and it was literally a decently large plot point/focus of the early storyline drafts 😭😭😭 now it’s gonna seem like it was inspired from SotR (which is fine ig) even though I’ve had this AU/OC timeline since at least 2023
That’s so real. We’ve had all this time to come up with possible plot lines in the hunger games universe ofc Suzanne landed on some of the same ones 🥲 The reaping in a story I’m working on (I’ve had the idea floating around in my brain for years) is pretty similar to the one in sotr, but I don’t think similarities are a huge deal. The ideas are gonna stand on their own because they are original ideas, people can usually tell the difference between something’s copied/heavily inspired and something you genuinely put a lot of thought into.

It might sound silly but I just realized Ao3 doesn’t allow non fanwork content on their platform. Good to know because I was literally planning on making a work that unintentionally would’ve violated the content policy!!
My rarepair that kinda got an unexpected chance to shine in Sunrise on the Reaping: Wiress x Haymitch.
I’m a Peeta Mellark-Everdeen truther
Me when I associate Lavender with Haymitch and remember my favorite HG OC is named Lav[…]
I love Haydove (at least in concept) but something about a Lenore Dove lives au where they break up (for one reason or another) and Lenore Dove still somehow haunts him…
They grow older together in the districts, become strangers and different people, Haymitch mostly being the one to push LD away.
And if Lenore Dove doesn’t die from her own rebellious actions (which she realistically would, which in it of itself is a tragedy of an AU to imagine Haymitch grappling with that after a sour and angsty breakup), she would likely have to change part of herself, dim her fire and “conform.” I don’t think she would marry. If she does, she’d likely lose her lover(s) over the years.
And after the 74th games, after Haymitch brings home two victors, that’s when Lenore Dove and Haymitch start to reconnect. Maybe from a distance at first. Her seeing how he acted when Gale was whipped, her utter heartbreak at the announcement of the Quarter Quell’s rule to pull from the victors. The thought of losing him, someone she still cared about even after all this time…
And then, when the bombs hit 12, Haymitch would have no idea if Lenore Dove made it out for quite some time. Even if they hadn’t gotten (back) together at that point, I’d still imagine that’d be terrible to think about. If she does survive the bombings and make it to 13, then she’d make it past the war.
I can only imagine them after Mockingjay, after the war ends, really reconnecting. Lenore Dove, now free from the borders of District 12, chooses to draw closer to Haymitch. She keeps him company. They’re different people now, they get to learn about each other all over again. She travels, but comes back to 12.
Maybe, years after, they get to do the toasting, and/or the covey’s own traditions when it comes to “marriage.”
Their own happily ever after.
One thing I think I will still accept as canon for the Capitol is Borzoi dogs as pets.
This, by the way

I'M SO FUNNY
Girl what the actual fuck were you writing 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Struggling once again with deciding whether the stylists in my au/fanfic world(s) are going to be helpful or Opps to my victor/tribute OCs. Because on the one hand…I do actually want to incorporate interesting fashion pieces and explore sympathetic Capitol characters, but on the other they could act as sources of conflict and tension.
Ik I could have a mixture of both, but I’m mainly trying to figure out for my main OCs (victors). Sigh.
I do lean more into them as antagonist or realistically neutral forces, though. But still. Especially long career stylists that work alongside victors for years; it would probably be a cordial relationship for some people—more specifically career districts who probably do have less qualms with the system.
Damn I’m gonna have to take “Clanker” off my D3 name list 😭
Random stock photos to describe a fanfic concept I have (out of context edition)
You can’t write OOC if all the characters are OCs…
