three more “realistic” arena ideas, but these arenas are featured in my fic, fame is a gun! one of these are mentioned in the original trilogy, but the others are entirely original!
1. A barren, snowy wasteland (67th Games). the tributes start in a clearing in the middle of the arena, with various paths to make their escape after the bloodbath. it constantly snows, and while there are supplies to start fires in the cornucopia, it’s impossible to keep a fire going because of the conditions. most tributes die of the cold, rather than combat. the games end with a final, stiff showdown between the boys from seven and one. the boy from one is the eventual victor
2. A rocky mountain range (52nd Games). the tributes start in a clearing at the halfway point of the mountain. there are various caves and tunnels for the tributes to travel through and hide in, but the caves are infested with bat mutts. the only way to ward the bats off is with fire, which they are scared of. the boy from district five won the games after a final showdown with the boy from two
3. Open, grassy fields (66th Games). the only clearing in the arena is the small clearing the cornucopia sits in, everything else is covered in tall grass of varying colors and heights, ranging from 2 feet to well over 6 feet tall. there were holes for tributes to hide in, but they proved to be dangerous when tributes began to fall into them. rat mutts were a large feature, and the boy from district 4 was the first and most brutal mutt death of the year
i mentioned in my d4 wedding headcanons post that i rlly like the idea that the song sung at finnick and annie’s wedding is based off an an old folk story, which i just incorporated into the most recent chapter of fame is a gun!
below the cut is that short story, told from the perspective of the fics main character, angel lowery! i really love how this turned out and i hope whoever reads it likes it to!
chapter 8 of fame is a gun is officially out!!!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/88772416/chapters/239070286
this chapter has been SO fun to write between the interviews and the district four lore!! next chapter won’t be out until next week since i have to work, but our time in the capitol is officially over! next chapter marks the beginning of the games, which i am sososo excited for!!
chapter 7 of fame is a gun is officially out!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/88772416/chapters/239061571
its a little shorter than some of the other chapters, but its been fun to write! hopefully the next chapter (where things start to really pick up) will be out by tomorrow!
chapter 6 of fame is a gun is officially out!
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
this chapter took a little long to get out, but it was super fun to me! i love exploring the training sessions and how the tributes act with each other prior to the games! chapter 7 should hopefully be out either tomorrow or thursday!

a few “realistic” arena ideas bc i keep seeing the most ROTTED arena ideas online… guys the arenas are specified as an enclosed outdoor area they’re not throwing the tributes into a mall or dressing them up as clowns (both of these are real things ive seen suggested)
salt plains. a less disorienting/“improved” environment similar to wiress’ arena. the games start with a thin layer of water on the plains to further disorient tributes. water that lands on the ground generally becomes undrinkable since the ground is made of salt, forcing tributes to rely on what little rainwater they can collect or sponsor gifts. while the arena is nearly entirely flat, there are still pockets for tributes to hide in. mutts could potentially be some vicious mosquitos or frilled lizards
savannah featuring a small mountain. a large, grassy plains with sparse trees and plenty of mutts. while most are docile to an extent (zebras, birds, impala), there are still predators roaming around. the mountain provides shelter, but is still a risk. a few watering holes dot the landscape, but to drink from them would leave tributes in the open and at risk of being attacked.
tropical rainforest. tributes start in a small clearing surrounding the cornucopia to encourage a bloodbath, but everything past that clearing is a dense rainforest. when tributes stray too far from another tribute, snake or bird mutts are sent after them to encourage fights among the foliage. poisonous frogs are easy to find, though actual food is not. a river snakes through the arena to provide drinking water, but who knows what might be living in it?
these are just a handful that i’ve come up with at work while hammering out the next chapter of fame is a gun! these are free to use for thg ocs since i don’t think ill ever use them lol
