The center of interest in both master shots is retained on the left side of the picture. The rest of the screen is darkened to stress the key, well-lit area.

Here a very small upper area of the screen is used to frame the dominant player in each reverse master shot.

A half area of the screen is blocked by the body of the player in the foreground, whose back is minimally lit, to emphasize the lighter figure in the background.

By dividing the screen into three equal sectors, the dominant player in each master shot can be placed in the center of the screen. This avoids jarring the audience when cutting between two shots: the attention is always retained in the center of the screen.
