Dragon Pro Wrestling Live! Results: October 5th, 2014
I had the pleasure of attending my first ever professional wrestling event recently, which is somewhat difficult for me to do since I either don’t have the money to attend any of the big ones or there just aren’t enough events going on near my local area. However this is not one of those times as I managed to attend the recent Dragon Pro Wrestling live event which was held at the Rodney Palace in Newport, Wales on Sunday 5th October 2014.
During this show there were two women’s matches that held, both of which were semi-finals matches to crown the first ever All Wales Women’s Champion. These matches had the “Fighting Irish” Rhia O’Reily facing against Welsh Valley’s girl, or “Wrestle-Girl” as the Facebook event page seems to call her, Nixon Newell. The second featured the “All-American Canadian” Addy Starr facing against the “Mother of Dragons”, Pollyanna.
Nixon Newell defeated Rhia O’Reily via Superkick.
While this took place during the first half of the show being billed as Ireland vs. Wales, this match was a decent bought between the two, which shown that Rhia was the more experienced of two as Nixon may have had one or two mishaps during the match, however I wasn’t having the best view so I could be totally wrong on that. However she still looked strong in the match with some nice offense, and Rhia bringing more of a hard-hitting offense though most of it. Nixon pulled out the win with a well placed Boobkick, sorry, Superkick. Maybe it’s just the angle from where I sat, I don’t know. For the record I was cheering for Nixon to win so don’t go saying I hate the woman, wrote that article about her for the Diva-Dirt site may I remind you.
Pollyanna defeated Addy Starr via Samoan Driver.
During the second half of the show being billed as America VS England, this in my opinion was the better of the two matches which made me a fan of both women, particularly Addy who played the heel during this. Both had hard hitting styles with a few flashy moves, more so Pollyanna using an Angel’s Wings which looked gorgeous. Addy had the spot of the match when her and Polly brawled to the outside where she had Polly laying on top of some railing, and proceeded to drive her knees into Polly’s stomach. Even from my view, it looked absolutely sick. In the end, Pollyanna pulled out a Samoan Driver to get the victory.
After the match however was a post-match segment where Polly praised the fact the show held two women’s matches and had the likes of Rhia and Addy participating. She then brings up Dragon Pro Wrestling trainee Shannon to the ring, who looks absolutely adorable. During this she basically gives the girl some genuine advice, as Polly herself is Dragon Pro’s first ever female graduate, to get far in the wrestling business and to take the world for her own in a typical face fashion.
However as she raises the hand of the newbie and the crowd cheered in delight for this moment, she turns on everyone by clotheslining the head off the poor girl while I proceeded to loudly clap, being the only one might I add (I’ll explain why in a moment). So Polly attacks the girl some more before her finalist challenger Nixon stops her from doing so, standing up to her as her English opponent leaves the scene and Nixon helps Shannon up and them both leaving.
Now onto why I clapped during the Pollyanna turn. I didn’t do it because ‘oh haha, I don’t like new people, kill them all!’ If anything I was upset someone as adorable looking like Shannon was being beaten up for no real reason. I cheered because I could see the turn coming and it actually gives more of a story to the Finals for the All Wales Women’s Championship match that it would have been if it was Face vs. Face.
Overall, a show with solid to really good women’s action that got more people involved than expected, but then again the show as a whole was very enjoyable. And as a side note, managed to briefly talk to Nixon and take a picture with her after the show and she was very down to earth friendly. I even mentioned the article I wrote on her for the site, which she ended up seeing, and she seemed super grateful that I talked about her in such a positive light.
The Finals will take place on their next show on the February 22nd 2015 I believe, but more will be said about that in the future.
