Demographic info: Mid 40s white fat queer poly pagan genderfluid transmasc human living in the wet corner of North America. The genderfluid thing is newly realized and shiny and I’m sure I’ll be talking about it often over the next... while.

Personal (public facing): I'm an Aziraphale-coded hobbit. Like, so cozy and wholesome you might want to puke. I rewatch just the first disc of the LOTR extended edition because I love the Shire so much. I drink Earl Grey with milk and one sugar. (Or a good scotch, cause every Aziraphale needs a little bit of Crowley inside them, right Sheenie?) Outside of fic, I read mainly historical fiction, especially anything set in (actual, not fantasy) medieval Europe and I was at one point a medieval music history nerd. I wear cozy sweaters. I love rain on ferns and April flowers. I make soup with things I've tended and harvested. I work a Wholesome AF job. I unironically hug trees. I'm in love with the world.

Personal (in private): I'm kinky and loving it. I'm primarily a Sensual Sadist with a significant Dominant streak. I often play as a Panther. I love consensual violence, and get great joy from hurting people who want me to hurt them.

Fandoms: I fell in love with Good Omens in 2000 when a college roommate gave it to me. It was genuinely the funniest, greatest thing I had ever read, and I evangelized about it to anyone who would listen. S1 of the show immediately became a comfort show, and it got me through a time of massive loss and upheaval. I put it on when everything was too hard and I needed something that made me feel like it would be OK. S2 - well we're all here still, aren't we? It dropped when I desperately needed One Good Thing for my brain to latch on to as I got through some intense pressure, and boy howdy did it lodge itself in me. (I’m deeply upset about NG’s actions, but I’m also not about to throw away something so personally meaningful because one asshole involved made some really shitty choices.)

Other fandoms in roughly chronological order: Star Wars (original trilogy made me a child nerd), X-Files (first real social fandom, and intro to fanfic!), Buffy/Angel/Firefly, LOTR, Doctor Who, Torchwood (the only other show I've been driven to write fic for). OFMD and WWDITS are great fun, though not obsessions. Any of these and more might show up.

My Writing: Writing Index Here I’ve written nearly 100K of fic in the past year! My writing signatures are vivid sensory descriptions and kinky smut. Some angst, some fluff, some really dark stuff. My Ineffables tend to be deeply in love but also kinda fucked up in their own special ways. I’m still writing, a bit slowly at the moment due to Life, but there’s some great stuff in my docs I can’t wait to share when it’s ready.

What I post/don’t post: This is my fun space filled with things that I find interesting and/or bring me joy. Expect lots of Good Omens, GO Extended Universe (aka anything Tennant and/or Sheen), queer and kink-related content, other fandom things, my writing including NSFW snippets (below a cut if I remember), fat/body positivity, cats, nature awesomeness, things that make me laugh. Posts I write off the cuff as I wake up in the morning seem to be the ones that get shared, for some reason. I almost never post about current events unless it’s good news. The world is full of fear and despair; I try to keep this space one of hope and joy. There will be NSFW content on the regular (because kink, sex, and other such adult activities are a joy for me), so if you’re uncomfortable with that, I’m not the person to follow.

Hello Good Omens fandom! I had the pleasure to be commissioned by my good friend @janeway-lover to do a huge illustration of the archangel Uriel in their true angelic form. This piece took a total of 23+ hours in total (many many days of work). I think this is one of the biggest pieces I’ve done in 5 years!! I hope you all enjoy it.

More GO Metaverse/AU Musings

Many people have written eloquently about how, since the book/radio drama/S1 all end happily with character arcs wrapped up, there is plenty of justification for taking them as one's personal canon. This is probably going to be my approach.

However, I do think there is justification in the structure of the show to consider each season as its own AU. I'm not saying you have to interpret it this way, just offering the possibility.

Season 1 begins with the OG wall meet-cute, which establishes A&C as a pair of slightly befuddled agents from opposing sides who have more in common with each other than head office. Of the three seasons, this one retains the most of the Cold War spy setting from the book, with them meeting in public places and expressing fear about getting into trouble with their head offices. Also, this is the only season that mentions the Arrangement, which is a concept that only makes sense if they both know that angels and demons are the same.

Season 2 introduces a new meet-cute that, to me, can be read as resetting the story into an AU about religious institutional trauma. The two angels are more like church friends, with one about to be ex-churched, and while the fear of their institutions persists, the conflicts between them throughout S2 seem more philosophical than S1's more practical and obvious emergency. In addition, among a number of moments that I find contradictory to S1, there is no hint of the Arrangement and generally A&C seem to lack the common knowledge and experience that I read them as having in S1.

Season 3 doesn't have breathing room for much of this kind of analysis, but the third meet-cute seems to launch us into a war AU with A&C as soldiers on opposite sides of an unbridgeable divide, who will never find more than a moment's peace together, which leads into their final decision. This is a huge reversal from S1, which showed characters successfully building relationships across their differences.

Chronologically, the only way I can make all three meet-cute scenes make sense in order is by assuming external manipulation. Their memories and/or their Book of Life pages must have been altered, or we must be watching them in different timelines or universes.

This is not the only issue I have when trying to consider the story chronologically. To me, the S1 flashbacks show a slowly developing relationship, allies to friends to lovers, over the centuries. The S2 minisodes disrupt that flow, with the Job flashback getting very intimate, then whipping back to a more distanced tone at the Crucifixion. And how do we get from Bastille Aziraphale, who is experiencing in real time what a hungry and oppressed populace will do, to the Aziraphale of Edinburgh 1827?

I do think S2 and S3 have more connective tissue to each other than to S1, so again, a S1-only canon makes a ton of sense. But I think, if it helps, that you can also apply an AU lens to each season.

For me, the meaning is this: we, humans, from the smallest to the greatest, are capable of changing the world. We can refuse to be what others tell us we are. We can choose our own path. It doesn’t matter whether we are children or adults — everything is in our hands. Our destiny, and therefore the destiny of the world, is in our hands. What we are born as does not define us.

Unfortunately, I don’t know how this line originally looked in English, but in the Russian translation of the book there is a sentence like this:

“It’s just like expecting a tailless mouse to give birth to a tailless baby mouse.”

That is the essence of Good Omens. Those who think they mean nothing and have no influence are deeply mistaken. Every person matters; every voice matters. What we are born as does not determine who we truly are.

The Antichrist, whose purpose at birth was to destroy the planet, humanity, and claim his throne, is an ordinary eleven-year-old boy who rejects his predetermined role because he sees no point in ruling or power, he simply doesn’t need it. All he wants is to enjoy life on Earth, to enjoy playing with his friends, the small earthly joys, imagination, his imperfect but loving and loved parents, to go to school, to play with his dog in the garden, to steal apples from the neighbor’s tree, to grow up and love, to love, and love again this imperfect world.

We can change the world. We can do it by starting with ourselves, by refusing to accept what we are told we are by definition, by default. And it doesn’t matter whether it’s for good or for evil, our Aziraphale and Crowley, faithful (shitty, but still lol) protectors of Earth, humanity, and the small earthly pleasures that we created and that they came to love just as much as they love humanity itself, will always be with us, believing in us.

Good Omens is a Transformative Work

It has been since the very beginning.

NG (fuck NG) thought of a book plot where a demon finds himself in The Omen movie. But he screws up the baby switch. And the Antichrist grew up as a character in a Richmal Crompton novel. He didn't know what to do with it next. TP offered to buy the story. He changed the demon into a demon and an angel defying their bosses on the earth they both loved. He added his smart whimsy and gave the story a moral core far beyond a silly spoof. When the story was written, queer kids saw themselves in the angel and demon based on the subtext. Because they lived in subtext. Gender fluid and trans readers created stories about an angel and demon for whom gender was a choice depending on how or whether they decided to make an effort. The strangeness of fitting into a planet dominated by beings the angel and demon differed from spoke to neurodivergent readers.

Religious readers found healing after years of struggling to make sense of doctrine divorced from morality. Some ace and aro readers saw the deep and meaningful relationship beyond romance between a pair together over 6000 years. And tons of horny people from all walks of life poured their hearts into smut that made the most of beings whose bodies allowed for a range of sexual practice that would never be realistic for humans.

People who felt rejected or unloved because they were "too much" or "too little", took solace from an angel who didn't mind the gruffness of the demon who couldn't bear to be cruel. And the demon who liked the angel being a little bit of a bastard. If an angel and demon could care for and accept each other for themselves, perhaps it could happen for them too? This is why the Good Omens fandom is so special. Transformation has been baked into his story from the very beginning. Biblical fan fiction, a collaborative story by two authors, a tv show/movie brought to life by a team of actors, designers, writers... And now also entire worlds of fan fiction and art. Good Omens continues to transform itself and the people who love it. And it will always be ours as we continue to transform it for generations to come.
