ed, incognito mode is not your friend
bonus:
thinking about how the world would be better if more people understood the differences between 'the author failed to tell the story they wanted to tell' and 'the author told the story they wanted to tell, but they told it badly' and 'the author told the story they wanted to, and they told it well, but it wasn't the story I wanted to read'
I am actually so serious I think it really messes with a childs creativity and joy to tell them to never make a mary sue OC. Like that unbridaled form of joy where you make a self insert OC who super cool and everyone loves them and they have every superpower in the world SHOULD be something a kid makes, it nourishes their ability to create things for fun and not be stifled by "oh but what if my character is too overpowered and cringey...". whatever

just so it shows up in the notes: this is an extremely good thing, which is why you will see the internet/cell companies revolt against it-- it will prevent them from selling your data to spamcall companies and selectively throttling their competitor's sites, among other things.
also remember that the internet has basically replaced phone service entirely now, with most phones now simply operating via VOIP. legislating the internet the same way as landlines were is really a no-brainer, it's the same service in a slightly different form.
For anyone who needs it. Use in good health.
"alas" is a truly S tier english word. fantastic mouthfeel, makes me sound like a world-weary wizard, looks cool when written out. good job to whoever created this word.
so glad this one resonated
Whenever people try to tell me to ship "moral ships" I like to think about how inherently immoral it is to flirt with service workers at coffee shops where they're obliged to be nice to you so... many coffee shop AUs are like. Immoral. But given that they are a fantasy where this is instant romance without the fear of trapping a service worker in an uncomfortable situation that's tantamount to workplace sexual harassment, I enjoy the cutesy coffee shop AUs immensely.
And that's basically my attitude towards all fantasy. There's lots of things I enjoy in fantasy that wouldn't work IRL. Enemies to lovers. Sudden kisses. Miscommunications in relationships. Codependency. Fight sluts who physically assault each other while emotionally connecting.
Once you start ascribing your morals to the fiction you consume, you tend to miss the issues in even the most innocuous, innocent seeming scenarios. It's easy to judge other people's fictional enjoyment until someone points out your innocent coffee shop AU is romanticised workplace harassment.
But it's all fiction. It's a fantasy. That's why it's fine.
A lack of education around things like consent, healthy relationships, self respect and respect of others, bodily autonomy, etc, has made people think they can rely only on fiction to tell them what right - but that's dangerous. And unsustainable.
Tips to help you describe love and attraction in your novel:
1. Show, don't tell: Instead of directly stating that a character is in love or attracted to another, demonstrate their emotions through their actions, thoughts, and interactions. Describe their reactions, gestures, and expressions to convey the depth of their feelings.
Example: "Her heart raced as he entered the room, a smile spreading across her face that she couldn't contain. In that moment, she knew she was helplessly in love.
///////
2. Engage the senses: Use sensory details to immerse readers in the experience of love and attraction. Describe the sights, sounds, scents, tastes, and textures associated with the characters and their interactions to create a rich and immersive atmosphere.
Example: "As they danced, the soft melody filled the air, intertwining with the sound of their laughter. She caught a whiff of his cologne, a mix of warmth and familiarity that sent a shiver down her spine. The touch of his hand against hers was electric, igniting a flame of desire she couldn't ignore."
///////
3. Use metaphor and symbolism: Employ metaphorical language and symbolism to convey the intensity and depth of love and attraction. Compare the characters to natural elements, use imagery to describe their connection, or associate their emotions with colors, seasons, or other evocative symbols.
Example: "Their love blossomed like a garden in spring, vibrant and full of life. Each touch was a brushstroke on the canvas of their hearts, painting a masterpiece of desire and longing."
///////
4. Explore internal thoughts and emotions: Provide insights into the characters' internal dialogue, thoughts, and emotions to convey the complexity and nuances of their love and attraction. Show their vulnerability, doubts, and the transformative power of their connection.
Example: "Her mind was filled with his presence, his voice echoing in her thoughts. Doubts melted away as her heart whispered, 'This is love, undeniable and all-consuming.'"
///////
5. Highlight the unique qualities and chemistry: Describe the unique qualities and characteristics that draw the characters to each other. Focus on their shared interests, intellectual connection, shared values, or the sparks that fly between them to emphasize their compatibility and chemistry.
Example: "Their conversations flowed effortlessly, their minds dancing in perfect sync. They understood each other in ways no one else could, their connection a magnetic force that pulled them closer with each passing moment."
///////
6. Capture the range of emotions: Love and attraction encompass a wide range of emotions, from joy and passion to longing and vulnerability. Capture the various emotional states the characters experience, both the highs and lows, to create a multidimensional portrayal of their relationship.
Example: "In his arms, she felt a sense of belonging she had never known. The world melted away, leaving only the euphoria of their love. But as the distance grew, an ache settled in her chest, a yearning for his touch that consumed her thoughts."
write fanfic that three people in the world will read, because those three people are going to be fucking pleased that it exists
Because why write the actual story when I can spend HOURS writing lore for it......I need help. XD
one of my favourite fun facts is the knowledge that in medieval islamic arabia, lesbianism was thought to be an illness which can only be treated with a regular prescription of rubbing one's vulva against another woman's. they really said "you're sick with lesbianism, please have lesbian sex to treat it. and if your lesbianism is acting up again, have more lesbian sex"
Things I do as a Writer
• Not write
• Daydream
• Cry
•Complain
• Wait for inspiration
• Write
• Not write
Once again here to remind you that everything you write has value regardless of how many comments you get.
I know it can be discouraging and you deserve recognition but lack of it does not diminish your worth as a writer nor does it define your skills as one.
pls write oc x canon character fiction I don't understand how that's cringe or why cringe is even a word we've affixed to fanfic in the first place
also sometimes the canon character needs a perfect partner written for them bc canon refuses to so yes write away
