Today, I will explore the song "She Walks on Me."

"She Walks on Me" and several other demos from Live Through This were recorded during a Nirvana session in 1993. This song dates back to the Pretty on the Inside tour. It is about Kat Bjelland from Babes in Toyland and also references "Strange Love" (that Vanity Fair article).

Courtney calls this song her captured girl song.

This song was written by Courtney Love and Eric Erlandson. According to Patty Schemel, she and Courtney Love came up with the idea for the song in 1992 while in San Francisco.

It tells the gruesome story of a woman being kidnapped etc. the song was thought to be inspired by Jennie Boddy, a music publicist, Its lyrics appear to tell the narrative of a woman in captivity, being held "in a box by the bed."

"There was a girl that worked at SubPop named Jenny Boddy - she thinks the song is about her but its not - it’s about how Kurt had a crush on Julianna Hatfield, and I was hanging around with him and this Blake Babies song called - I cant remember what - Oh yeah - “Girl in A Box” I think was playing and he said “That’s a really good song” and I said “well I can write a good captured girl song” and so I wrote a captured girl song." - Courtney Love

Courtney has also said that “This song is about getting the sh*t beaten out of you and liking it.”

To me, this song could be about violence against women as it is also one of the themes in the Live Through This album.

The movie, Jennifer's body title could be inspired by the song, and the soundtrack features "Violet" since Diablo Cody is a huge fan of the band, but Love was disappointed that she wasn't credited or hole being mentioned.
