Researching Italy to get a better grip on Lucretia’s backstory and personality and WOW Italians from different cities really do not seem to like each other.
assert your dominance. bite the vampire.
“Girl that ain’t a red flag, that’s a nuclear waste warning message.”
it’s a shame more vampire media doesn’t pull from vampire bat behavior because they’re such sweeties. they can only survive their incredibly specialized diet because bats will share blood with colony members that didn’t find a meal! there’s evidence that suggests the donors sometimes initiate this behavior themselves by approaching hungry bats! the colonies are mostly harems of females with a few males but they’ve been observed letting unrelated males in when it gets cold so they can all stay warm! cute little social critters!

Happy Pride!
She holds up her phone. “Read his profile and confirm to me that that’s what it says.”
The profile seems mundane enough…at first. But then…
‘Not interested in females over 25’. Said the man well into his 40s.
Technology certainly had a way of emboldening people…
“That’s. This is a red flag, right?”
He leaned down to see her phone screen, and his expression quickly soured.
"Not interested in women over t... yes, that's a red flag. And the site does nothing about people like this?"
“There’s no incentive to do anything about it. Guys like this weed themselves out; it’s the ones who pretend to be nice first that are the problem. And the apps don’t care; traffic is traffic, money is money.”
“Also he didn’t say women, he said FEMALES. Like we’re a different species—“
A message on her phone; someone has sent a photo to her. Looking at it, she let out an exasperated sigh.
“I’ll spare you this one, but let’s just say some men on these apps think they’re packing something special.” A pause. “I wonder if I can find his mother. Let her know how her son is behaving.”
“Don’t get excited, altar boy, I call everyone that.”
A pause.
“Unless…?”
Sighing, she shook her head. A ‘ping’ is heard, and she pulls her phone out. “I have a new match anyway, let’s see—NOPE. Nope, nope, a thousand times nope. Nevermind.”
Ah, one of those "all encompassing" terms of... endearment.
"There is no excitement and there is no "unless"," he said sternly, resisting the urge to lean over to see her phone screen.
"What, pray tell, is so bad about this newest one?"
She holds up her phone. “Read his profile and confirm to me that that’s what it says.”

“‘Only interested because we aren’t available’ Sweetie look in a mirror sometime.”
"I look in the mirror every morning. I already know what I look like."
He's also quite aware some people find him attractive.
"And did you really just call me "sweetie"?"
“Don’t get excited, altar boy, I call everyone that.”
A pause.

The moon hangs high in the sky, in its fullest phase and bathing the cemetery in a silver light. Lucretia stood in silence before a grave, worn by time.

Beloved Son. Beloved Brother.
A quiet sigh. No matter how many years went by, the pain still felt so raw…
Stiffening slightly, she sighed again, this time with a tinge of irritation, having sensed a presence. “Have you come to kill me, hunter? Do you actually have a crime pinned on me or is my mere existence a crime to you?”
Lucretia is actually remarkably compassionate and patient with newly-turned vampires; this can be attributed to the kindhearted group that found her in Florence long ago. Even if the transformation was willing, she understands how disorienting and frightening it can be, and does her best to offer guidance.
“This is what I get for trying to be cool…ow…”

“As a matter of fact, there is. I was told you’re good at finding things and people.”
Bowing with a flourish, she smiled. “Lucretia de Fialis. I’m afraid I’m quite new to Gotham so I don’t really know my way around yet. I’m looking for a man who took something from me, and I’m hoping that I can hire your expertise.”
Lucretia doesn’t seem bothered by the rats, but the same can’t be said for them…
Ohhh the rats did NOT like her. They were bristling like they would at the Joker's presence, only with added whispers calling her dead thing, blood scent.
… he was reminded of when the city had been infested with vampires several years ago. They'd picked up those same epithets then. Were they going to have to worry about that event repeating itself?
He realized he'd been distracted by the rat chatter and refocused on her. Warily.
“Sorry. You uh… said you wanted to hire me?”
Lucretia only smiled cordially at his distraction. “Yes. I’m searching for a man named Willis Barker.”
Pulling a photo out of her pocket, she handed it to Otis. The man was mostly unremarkable; middle-aged, balding, mean-looking face, the kind of sleazy that one would expect from a sketchy used car salesman. The sole exception was a horizontal scar just above his left eyebrow.
“Six months ago, Mr. Barker broke into my estate and stole a family heirloom; a sword, with red gemstones embedded in the hilt. I’ve only just tracked him to Gotham. He may be operating under a false name; the last I heard, he was claiming to be a man of the cloth, and was trying to establish a parish of sorts.”
Dark ruby eyes scanned Otis. “It’s very important to me that I find this man and retrieve the sword. I am willing to pay quite handsomely for your services. And if money is of no interest, then perhaps we can work something else out. My request is simple; please locate both him and the sword. You don’t have to do any retrieving or confronting; simply locate them and tell me where they are, and I shall do the rest myself.”
