It’s sooo funny that Fountain still pisses them off this much
Century strong universal fascist detector, Duchamp's Fountain.
I'm a leftie and I hate modern art. It's a money laundering scheme. It's art that substitutes meaningless or shock value pieces (which is to no danger to the system(s)) in the place of subversive art that can talk to the masses. Modern art is a form of business that's made for and at the service of the elites. If you respect the proletariat, you'll shit on modern art.
Shut up dork
genuinely, people who hate certain movements in art that are abstract or unconventional in some way just need to think about their own reactions to the art to get it. like, "what is a urinal doing in an art exhibit??": yeah, what IS a urinal doing in an art exhibit? could it be that the artist is intentionally communicating something with this creative choice? think about what the reasons could possibly be for that.
in the case of the fountain, you can even get the artist's direct statements about the work, the personal history of the artist, the artist's other body of work, and the historical context it was made in as reference for drawing your conclusions.
there is plenty to criticize about the ways that art museums commodify art and the way that "legitimate" art has become an industry backed by the wealthy, but none of that has anything to do with weird art. if anything, an acceptance of weird art and a broadened definition of what constitutes art makes it harder to put a price tag on and pokes holes in the very idea of art as an industry.
also... the fountain is not modern art... as has been pointed out, it's over 100 years old at this point... the year it was made in is clearly visible, written on it, in the photo... what the fuck...
I call it the Ukraine Game
Along with you died joy. All that remains is despair and a future of meaningless tomorrows
neither..
I told an AI to draw Donald Trump riding a dragon and I'm honestly impressed
The amount of limbs this dragon has is absolutely terrifying
Bruh, i haven't been on this account in years 👀
