halfway through alchemised and after some things I've seen online, I got some things to say
The entire discourse about the book being a dark romance or focusing only in the romance are complete bullshit. Do we have a relationship between two people? Yes, but it's not the story. They are only the channel in which the story is told.
We follow (with only one POV) two characters in opposite sides of a brutal war that changed not only the world in which they live, but also removed their free will, making them what said war needs them to be. And it's toxic, broken, cruel, raw, sad, vulnerable - just as a war is, despite the many glorifying stories we are told about war.
Was this so hard do understand?
Reading Alchemised while not being a dramione shipper is certainly ~an experience. Like, I don't ship dramione because it just doesn't make sense to me, but I am dying for Helena and Kaine.
NO ONE does I-would-burn-down-the-world-for-the-person-I-love better than kaine fucking ferron
God, I love Koen. ❤️🔥🫠
“You made me feel like the parts of me that aren’t useful still deserve to exist. Like I’m not just all the things I can do.” - Helena to Kaine

reading some of the top reviews of Alchemised on Goodreads and wow - the reading comprehension is so dead for some people. I guess this happens when books nowadays are mostly just aggressively advertised and summarized with tropes anymore and then comes one book that simply refuses to fit into those boring categories and no one knows how to handle it.
(he.threw.up.afterwards. the context of it all? what is so hard to understand??)
characters that wanted/meant to be doctors saving lives that ended up being soldiers taking lives are close to my heart.
“I always have to choose, and I never get to choose you. I’m so tired of not getting to choose you.” - @senlinyuwrites
As we erode with the passage of war under the ever present shadow of the reaper, what is there that’s left of us in the end?
ali hazelwood writes male romantic interests for girls with emotionally volatile fathers (ie dudes who are skilled in deescalating and can communicate how they feel)
He easily resigned himself to a lifetime without her, but… Simply put, he is unwilling to contemplate a universe in which she no longer exists.

“Every time you asked, I promised I was yours. Always. There aren’t any exemptions or expiration dates on always.”
— Alchemised, by SenLin Yu
Someone asked me if I would recommend Ali Hazelwood's books and instead of saying yes like a normal person I said
"Well if it were possible I'd snort her books into my skull and keep them forever."
So anyways. Read Ali Hazelwood.
I feel like the war in Alchemised makes so much more sense than it does in Mancaled and the reason why they’re losing like they’re all waiting on a miracle and divine intervention, Luc lost his dad and now everyone is looking at him waiting to see what miracle he’s going to bring and what the gods are going to bless him with, Helena finding out the gods don’t care and they never helped in the first war it was like oh they’re fighting a losing battle and poor Lucs trying to lead best he can and waiting and waiting thinking it’ll be any day now and she can’t tell him the truth :((
