“Well…” Ayla trailed off, thinking about it. The other girl - despite being a stranger - had a good point, when would she use electron configuration as a queen? The only reason she was in chemistry at all was because it was a requirement for the school. “I guess I probably won’t use it in the future, but I still need to make a good grade in the class,” the smaller blonde explained.
“That’s understandable. But why waste your energy when someone else can do it for you?” Ingrid sat next to the other princess, and closed the textbook. “I’ve got lists of names who can take care of this so you can take care of what you want. Like your hair. Personally, I think it looks great, but wouldn’t you love to feel that mini massage they do when they shampoo your hair? All your stress can go away. You just have to say ‘yes.’”
“I expressly told Dad I was spending Christmas with you, and I didn’t care who would try to stop me. Nothing could prevent me from being with my little sister on Christmas. I even got you a gift, but you’ll have to wait for that.”
Immediately reining it in, Ingrid matched his sobriety, “Oh, I had no idea...I’m so sorry. Maybe it wasn’t your father. I must have you confused with someone else. Unless...there’s a possibility of him being in Buena Vista."
this is the first in a continuing series about creepy ghost guy. enjoy!
“What the fuck are you doing?” Her voice was icy as Ingrid bore her eyes into the ghost that sat on the edge of her bathtub. He was more attractive than most of them that she’d seen so far, but still. Was now really a great time for a visit? Was anytime a great time for a visit? Ingrid groaned. There was nothing she hated more than spirits showing up unexpectedly, especially when she was attempting to relax. First of all, why should she give a damn about them? It didn’t make any sense for those annoying souls to come to her instead of someone who could possibly care. Secondly, it was rude. Rude as hell. They had no right to interrupt her life just because they needed help–or whatever. “I need to find my daughter.” The amount of times Ingrid had heard those words was enough for her to sink down into the glittering water of her bath. Maybe he’d go away if she stayed down there long enough.
One…two…three…four…
“Boo!”
The abrupt voice caused the medium to open her mouth in shock. Water quickly rushed into her body, forcing Ingrid to tear through the barrier between her and the air above. A violent cough soon followed as her lungs attempted to reject the unwelcome fluid. Along with her hacking, all she could hear was hyena-like laughter coming from the spirit. Not only had he ruined the only quiet time she was going to get that week, but he almost caused her death. Who knows? If enough water had gotten in, she very well could have died. Still building up to a solid breath, Ingrid fed the ghost a fierce stare she reserved for people like Anna Bjorgman. But somehow, he didn’t seem fazed. The shit-eating grin that accompanied his laughter remained smacked upon his face. Either this guy was deranged or idiotic. Ingrid’s vote was on both.
Finally able to speak, the blonde spat the words out, praying the reply wouldn’t require effort, “What do you want from me?” Surprisingly, the spirit didn’t say anything. He just kept on looking at her with that stupid smile of his. It was like he was in a movie and she’d pressed pause. His stillness was starting to get too eerie, causing Ingrid to look away and focus on the swirling colors that her bathbomb had made. She wasn’t usually one to back down from a confrontation, but the chills running down her spine were an anomaly. Something she’d felt maybe once before in her life.
Suddenly, a cool breeze pierced her cheek, similar to the sensation of someone blowing a kiss. An even cooler voice accompanied the feeling. It was the same spirit, but his tone was pointed…sinister. “They’re wrong. You a r e fun. I’m not looking for my daughter, sweetheart. But I’m glad I found you.” The remark stripped Ingrid of any warmth that radiated from the bath and left her frozen. This was different from the interactions she’d previously had with the other side. Most of the time, souls were lost and confused. Annoying, obviously. But never like this. He knew exactly what he was doing and exactly who he was talking to. She wasn’t some random presence he managed to find. No, he was searching for her.
Daring herself to face him, Ingrid turned slowly, only to find emptiness in the space the ghost had just occupied. Perhaps he’d gotten his thrill and was ready to move on. Or perhaps…
“I’m so tired of studying. I’ve been reading about chemistry all day but I still couldn’t tell you what electron configuration is,” Ayla sighed, contemplating dropping out of school to join a circus.
“There’s no use in studying so hard for something that isn’t worth it. When will you use that while you’re ruling a kingdom?” Ingrid offered a sympathetic grin. Of course she knew who Ayla was. Ingrid knew who all the royals were. And she knew that this one would be an easy buy.
Glaring at the other when Stormie got no reaction for pulling the blanket, she waited a moment before turning her attention to the people around her. It wasn’t difficult for her to spot the person that Ingrid was talking about, however Stormie had no intentions of hexing him. “I could still very easily put a curse on you.” she hummed, turning her attention back to the other girl.
Keeping her eyes glued on the brunette, Ingrid gathered intel such as the way she watched others. She appeared to be smart, not only from the way she talked, but by the way she looked at their surroundings. Again, these were initial observations, but Ingrid was good at first impressions. Her gaze was focused at the girl’s mouth when she turned back, watching the movement of her lips and seeing if there were any notable patterns. “But do you really want to?”
Tempted to push the girl off the bench, Stormie chose to sit up instead and take the blanket with her. She was making room for the blonde, showing that she was tolerating her presence. “Which kid did you say I should hex instead of you? Since you seem to think you have control over what I do.”
Cool air slapped against Ingrid’s legs as the blanket was completely pulled from her. No bother. She had great legs, and the sun was shining just right to emphasize their shimmer. Crossing them, Ingrid placed her hands atop her knees, drawing attention to her long limbs. “The one with the hair that looks like his mother cut it.” Pleased, she smiled, a cat purring under the warmth of the sun. “I have control over what everyone does.”
She was more than shocked when the other girl not only approached her, but actually dared to crawl under her blanket. Staring at the other, Stormie wasn’t sure if she should be impressed or pissed. “What makes you think I won’t curse you, hm?” Watching the other closely, Stormie tugged the blanket closer to herself. “What makes you think you’re allowed to do this?”
Ingrid held in a chuckle. She had a feeling that making fun of the dark-haired girl wouldn’t get her anywhere. Definitely too serious for that. “I’m not a good target, so you wouldn’t get much return on your investment. Besides, something tells me you’d rather not exert more energy than necessary right now.” Ingrid mused based on the way she was clinging to that blanket. “Because I can.”
drakkar didn’t like lunchtime. he often headed to bed just after he was done there. and it made him act grumpy whenever the place was crowded. he just wanted to go back to his room. he wished he could use his powers to just move to the first place in line but he couldn’t do that without people noticing. he just coped and waited a while. every table had a little group formed except for one in the corner. He sat there with another person and almost instantly started speaking “don’t you hate that this place is always crowded? i’ve tried coming in at different hours but it’s still the same. i wish they could make it bigger or something.”
The chance of seeing Ingrid in the cafeteria was typically 0%. It was disgusting, noisy (not in a good way), and overly crowded with obnoxious teenagers. However, she was completely out of food, and if she were going to work out that afternoon, she’d need some nourishment. Halfway through her banana, a companion suddenly appeared by her side. This wasn’t too surprising. Since people were naturally drawn to her, it happened all the time. “You could always try not coming at all. That’s what I do most of the time.”
she was sprawled out on one of the benches on the commons, making it impossible for anyone else to sit there. there was a blanket draped over her as she glared at any student that tried to give her a curious look for taking up so much space. anyone that dared to approach, stormie would threaten with a hex. “get closer, i dare you. i’ll make your fingers turn into worms.”
I dare you. Those words were crack to Ingrid. She could never stay away from a challenge, especially one given by a person she considered close to her own league. Keyword: close. Lifting the blanket, Ingrid slipped underneath, “No, you won’t. Save your powers for someone else. Someone like that kid over there.” Ingrid nodded towards an idiotic soccer player whose ball was headed their way.
