like i will defend the self-inserting aspect of x reader with my life because it really is just a straightforward manifestation of imagining "what would i do in x scenario" which is literally The foundational aspect of how people enjoy media and empathize with characters like almost all fancontent relies on self-inserting. "i hate x reader i would not fucking say that" yes you would because this fic was born from a dream where an angel delivered a prophecy to me and i saw that you would say that exact line. for your information. but also i hate x reader circles so much because they're so unbearably white and in so many cases the act of inserting the self is accomplished by cutting black women out of the story or by disregarding the character's ethnicity. they're also so rife w the cishetero male dom/female submissive fantasy that it feels comparable to the way that fujoshis use omegaverse to get off to repackaged heterosexual romance tropes. it's a microcosm of fandom racism
