I’ve uploaded my fan comic “Steps Within Hell” to the site below.
"Steps Within Hell"
If you’re interested, I’d be delighted if you gave it a read.
I handle the English translations and the editing HTML on this site with only amateur skills — and of course, the comic as well. I would be grateful if you could look upon my work with kindness. If you happen to notice any issues, I’d really appreciate it if you could let me know discreetly.
Well then, Have a Happy Day in Hell!!
Hello again! 🪂
I've just read your doujinshi and apparently my commentary got even longer than usual 😅. I didn't know where else to post it, so I'll leave it here. Fair warning that it does go on interminably😶🌫️.
However, if I shouldn't have posted it here, or if you'd like me to remove it for any reason whatsoever, please let me know and I will do just that 🫡.
Alrighty, so:
✨I like how it's made clear [from the 4st panel of the doujinshi, even] that Alastor's often watching Charlie 💯
✨ Page 3, 3rd panel- Husk and Cherry's subtle movements/expressions when they hear that Charlie was worrying over Angel = great way of showing they completely shared that worry.
✨ Page 4 - I liked the quick montage of Charlie spreading herself too thin, as usual - and the chibi faces of her were both cute and funny 😄
✨ Great job on the hotel guests' character designs 🙌
✨The plot point of Charlie wanting to learn more about Sinners will always be fascinating to me💯
✨ Page 6- Alastor sensing an opportunity and jumping in to spend some alone time with Charlie made me grin. I loved how excited Charlie was by his offer [page 7] - so endearing 🥰
✨Page 8 - 3rd panel - loved the perspective, as well as the panel layout there - the diagonal lines conveyed the sense of speed needed for the montage of Alastor and Charlie going through hotel rooms [the next panel was pretty funny, too ]
✨Page 9- the shared reading area looked wonderful - talk about a complex background!😵💫
✨ Page 10, 1st panel - loved Alastor's fondly amused look there
✨Page 11, last panel - loved it for the way it made the fact that Charlie was still worried/distressed over Angel crystal-clear. And how she then immediately tried to hide it behind her usual bubbly smile. But of course Alastor would notice.
✨ Page 14, first panel - the height difference😍! And, again, Alastor's lightly amused look - both adorable and very funny
✨Page 15 - very impressive use of perspective there [Baxter's control panel] and Niffty doing her thing was hilarious and fun, as always
✨Page 16- loved how Alastor used Charlie's usual gesticulating as an opportunity to get into her personal space.
That middle panel of Charlie and Alastor sitting together on the elevator floor [a position that one would think would feel a little immature to Alastor? But of course he'd also think it would be worth it for Charlie] was so quietly lovely🌸. It conveyed a sense of peace and rightness to me.
✨Page 18, top left panel - just thought Charlie looked particularly lovely there. And, of course, I was happy to see her open up to Alastor and let him see behind her own mask [+Alastor's flimsy pretext that he wanted to know just out of some sense of professional responsibility, lol]
✨Page 20 - those two joined panels of Charlie were among my favourites. The frontal pose and her expression - perfect for her choosing to share such a vulnerable truth [her own insecurities/inferiority complex when it came to her mother]. It contextualised her earlier frantic need to talk about the smallest details with as many guests as possible in such an artful way
✨Page 21 - you illustrated one of the reasons why I firmly believe that Alastor is the best at getting through to Charlie when she really needs it - his mischief, his playfulness, his teasing - they all work to pull Charlie out of her spiralling/self-flagellating/overthinking. Alastor's attitude either intrigues her or galvanises her, even just to prove him wrong. He doesn't coddle or stifle her like basically everyone else around her. He stirs her to action, which is exactly what she needs. Gets her to truly focus.
It's exactly what he does here - he piques her curiosity by dangling the details of his human life in front of her, only to then: a) make her realise that her focus should be on Sinners, not on humans, and b) subtly express his devotion to [and special feelings for, I'd say 👀😁🥰] her : "Nowhere's as interesting as the Hell you're in. This Hell is where I belong." 😍 This is one of my favourite essential aspects of 🦌🌈, always.
✨Page 22- loved that panel of Alastor's pleased [and still enigmatic] smile when Charlie acknowledged that he was right. And, on a similar note to what I was saying before - I think it's pretty telling that Vaggie was unable to get Charlie to rest earlier. But here, with Alastor, after his words that made something fall into place for her, Charlie does allow herself to rest, her head sweetly against Alastor's shoulder. A sign of her trust, affection and comfort around him 💙
✨Page 33 - loved those parallel panels of demon!Alastor and human!Alastor. How Charlie got him to reminisce a bit about his past life. A wonderful metaphor for how she can connect him to his humanity- amplify the best parts of himself, even as she accepts all of him anyway💕. That's my ideal 🦌🌈 dynamic, really.
✨Page 35 - Alastor's wondering [understandably so] about Charlie's ability to move forward without losing too much of her light after all her friends are redeemed is THE question, and it lands so softly and compellingly in that sweet panel of her head resting against his shoulder and his face turned towards her.
Pages 36-37 - ...but then he, of course, catches himself and that tenderness turns deliciously dark and possessive 🔥🍽️🤤
Page 37 was my favourite page - I loved the way he held her face - both delicately and possessively. His other hand preparing to tangle in/ grip her hair brought to mind the visual of a hunter carefully, almost lovingly laying a trap. And, of course, the idea of Alastor's being the only one wanting to stay in Hell, with Charlie, will always be the best 👑💕
...especially since here, given the way he framed things, his words seemed to also carry an implicit vow: that he *would* stay by her side, making sure she'd never lose her smile 🥰. Beautifully done!
["Step with me" is also a wonderful way of articulating all these complex feelings of his: it emphasises partnership and -a veeeery longterm- commitment. Even a slight playfulness- step by step, forever ❣️]
✨The next page was hilarious 😂 - Alastor hitting his head against the elevator door and overall looking like a spooked cat made me chuckle.
["Your head's rock-hard"- there's that teasing I love 🤣]
✨ The final page is so intriguing. Charlie takes Alastor's offered hand and pulls him along with her usual bright smile. Their words seem to be in agreement, but, coupled with their respective expressions, suggest that these two mean different things. Charlie's words are to be taken at face value: she really is referring to *all* the Sinners. But Alastor seems to mean something else entirely: since earlier he'd described a future ["beautiful"] Hell empty of everyone but him and Charlie, not to mention his: "Nowhere's as interesting as the Hell you're in. This Hell is where I belong" line, I think that's what he's thinking of here ["For this very Hell"] too. Charlie is his chosen eternal home🥹. Which, again: is just the absolute best! 💪✨👑💗
Regarding your author's note, can I just say that I'm so happy you've given HH a chance and that you're now here 🥹🥰 And that you love 🌈🦌 so much💙 [I no longer care about the show itself, but I'll always love these two, too💍!]
Also, that little omake doodle was hilarious 😂
Thank you so much for all your hard work! It's amazing how this doujinshi was a one person-effort!💪 I thought it was a wonderful, heartwarming character and relationship study ✨ You treated Charlie [and her bond with Alastor] with infinitely more respect and love than S2 did, touching on her grief, her abandonment issues, her insecurities, her strength and her true motivation ["They're all my family, after all."]
Also, the cover art is delightful- your colouring is so vivid, I love 🦌 and 🌈's poses, Charlie's joyful expression and Alastor's slightly bewildered, intrigued one! And you came up with such a clever design for the title! Arranging the words on the stave is so evocative - it underlines their journey together, always against a musical backdrop. Just as it should be🥰.
Thank you! 👏🙏💙
PS - I also have a couple of translation suggestions, if that would be alright with you. If so, please let me know ☺️
