Can we start trusting disabled people to know their own limits? By this I mean if a disabled person says they can’t do something it’s not up to you to say “but you can! You just have to try harder!”

Here’s the thing. Sometimes we can force ourselves but it’s at the expense of our well-being. Just because I am physically capable of walking doesn’t mean my pain level isn’t severe. When I say “I can’t walk right now”, I’m not saying “I am physically incapable of walking” I am saying “walking at this moment will cause me excruciating pain, so I can’t do it right now”. And that’s equally as valid.

We shouldn’t need to constantly push our limits at our own expense to satisfy anyone else because we just need to “try harder”. Believe us and take us at our word.
