nothing feels as good as starting to read again when you haven't held a book in your hand for such a long time and now the setting sun is in your room and there's paper under your fingers and you feel so good about letting the words float into you again

when brandon sanderson talks about villains in his famous free youtube writing class video lectures he'll say 'what's the difference between gollum and sauron' and of course he means the villain that's present in the narrative and characterized in a way the audience can potentially relate to or sympathize with vs. the looming threatening anonymous far-off force (among other things). but every time he asks that i think 'well one of those guys tracked down frodo and got his ring back'

Welcome to Novella November!

some dear friends encouraged me to run this event so here we are. it's one I've wanted to host for a few years but I was either too busy or just plain forgot until December 1st 🤣

the only goal is to read however many novellas you can manage in the month of November, with a novella being defined as a novel 200 pages long or shorter. we'll be using "#Novella November" as our event tag

you don't have to read every novella you have, you don't have to read a certain number to "win", I just want us to get together and read a bunch of short books and actually put the community spirit back in booklr <3

I can't wait to see what everyone reads -- if you're putting together a TBR, I'd love to see them! apart from that, I can't wait to see everyone on November 1st! 🧡
