Hi! This is my space for all things book-related. You can call me Mina or Luminary. I don't have as much time as I'd like, so I'm hoping this blog can motivate me to continue clearing through my TBR pile.

I read just about anything that is tossed in my general direction, but I tend to favor low fantasy or dark romance novels. Sometimes, I read political or generally heavy-topic books; it helps slow me down and makes me think about what I am consuming. Changes my reading pace.

My reading goals for 2023:

Read 5,000 pages

Outside of reading, I greatly enjoy heavy metal and hard rock, as well as discovering new and different tea. For each book review I do, I will do my best to pair a custom metal and/or rock playlist & a tea to compliment the book as you read.

Why am I just realizing that fantasy and scifi are more of settings than genres. Please someone should correct me if I'm wrong but a genre is more about what you as the readers/audience expect, right? Like mystery, romance or horror. But you can't really expect anything from fantasy and scifi? Like, sure, you expect a magic system or/and advanced technology but that's about it. A fantasy story can be mystery, romance or horror. A scifi story can be mystery, romance or horror. Am I making sense?

In a way, they're both a setting and a genre. They determine the backdrop, but also some genre elements. Genre helps people understand what to expect the story to contain. For instance, I see a book advertised as an epic fantasy I can expect multiple POVs, a long thought out world full of magic and knights of some sort, perhaps even dragons or some other mythical creature. That doesn't go into full detail of the setting. We don't know what the landscape or politics might be, but we have the overarching basics already mapped out.

I had to DNF Haunting Adeline because I couldn't get past all the typos. I don't believe an editor was hired for this book, and if there was I would like names for future reference so I may avoid them.

the problem with reading 3 books at once is that I feel like I've abandoned them if I don't read a little bit of each every day.

I cap out at 2 books at a time for that reason. I can easily rotate between two books a day, but I cannot juggle. I do not know how to juggle. And that translates into my reading, figuratively and literally.
