The Skilled & The Lucky
There are two types of people in this world:
The Skilled & The Lucky
And you can always tell the difference between them, because you will always get corrected when you call a skillful person “lucky”.
“Wow, youre so lucky you got that promotion”. No, I put in 70+ hours a week and lived, breathed, and fought my way to get to that promotion. Luck has nothing to do with skill and determination.
This past year has been a tornado of events. For the first time in a long time, I felt this overwhelming sensation of being absolutely lost—shut in the dark—in the belly of the beast. Where did my passions go? Where was my adventure? What were my goals? Is anybody listening? Was this mental abuse? Am I overthinking? Who am I? Why do I do this to myself? What is life? What is death? But a conversation where death only speaks once, so you better listen carefully. Why am I so sad and so angry? Why do I want to watch the world burn? Why have I stopped helping the world? What do I want? WHAT DO I WANT?
What does depression look like? Does it wear sheets over our bodies like ghosts?
you know what i’ve never seen. one of those really big trees. like the massive ones in california. i feel like if i saw one i’d start crying immediately
trust me when i say i would be going absolutely apeshit if i was this kid
tell me this doesn’t fill you with some latent animal urge to scuttle your way to the canopy and check for predators
We went there last summer.
The scale of these trees just…breaks your brain. Cameras cannot convey what it is like to stand at the base of one of these things. Each tree is the biggest fucking tree you’ve ever seen and theres just….an entire forest of the fucking things. Hundreds of years old, hundreds of feet high.

Not exactly entirely psychology-related, but I thought this was interesting to put this here since it does deal with the mind.

DNA Reveals an Early American Dynasty Centered on Women
When U.S. Army Lt. James H. Simpson and his guide Carravahal first entered Chaco Canyon, New Mexico, during an 1849 military expedition, they were so awed by the remains of one enormous structure that they named it Pueblo Bonito, meaning “Beautiful Town.” Subsequent excavations revealed around 650 rooms within Pueblo Bonito, including burials packed with thousands of pieces of jewelry.
New DNA analysis of human remains within the burials reveals a prehistoric matrilineal dynasty, where lineage, birthright and social status were traced through the mother’s ancestry rather than the father’s, as is common in patriarchal societies. Researchers believe the elite women-centered dynasty lasted for 330 years, from 800 to 1130 A.D.
The findings, published in the journal Nature Communications, represent the first time that DNA and archaeological analysis have documented hereditary relationships among individuals within an elite lineage in the absence of a written record. Read more.
Psychology is a beautiful thing.
