Frederic & Christine:: Of passion and love for art
One is French and the other is Filipino, both in Canada and had collaborated for an interesting-cum-artistic photoshoot thatâs pleasing to the eyes, melancholic and dramatic one would think hard to decipher what it meansâŠ
The artist is Frederic and his canvass, Filipino-model Christine Muñozâs entire delicate back.
Frederic, 39, has always been into art, as stated in his Facebook default photo caption, âAs long as I can remember I always drew.â
I had to probe him and ask if that, âhis passion for drawingâ, is something he had inherited from his parents.
Frederic answered, âI always wondered about that. My father is a painter but when I think about it I donât think it came from a talent that transmitted from parents to child. Back then when I started drawing, my drawing wasnât particularly good, it was simply average. So I do not believe in inherited talent transfer. I loved art and especially drawing. I draw a lot, for hours and hours so I get better from persisting. Maybe I inherited my interest for art from my father after all.â
Christine, 27, on the other hand is a Pharmacy Technician but has started modeling in 2014.
Asked if modeling really was a dream, Christine said that it was not âinitiallyâ a dream as she is only 5â3âł, contrary to the âmodel stereotypesâ, i.e. tall, slim, perfect female, no flaws. But she was not discouraged and thanks to her boyfriend and a friend for pushing and encouraging her.
Christine shared, âmodeling was a goal, not a dream; something to strive for but not get my hopes up in case I did not find success or acceptance in the industry. But I guess the parts of it that I would attribute to be part of a dream are when people contact you to work together on opportunities that you thought were beyond your capabilities. I went into modeling knowing I had to humble myself and not to expect too much; I am a realist with modeling because of my setbacks from the standard requirements of a model. So I guess you can say any opportunity that I did not ever imagine I would have (like being interviewed for this magazine!) is a dream!! If I were 5â7âł or 5â8âł then sure modeling would definitely be a dream!!â
Not only was Christine on the petite side, she too has hypo-pigmentation, a skin problem where it loses its color, but as mentioned she was not discouraged, and thatâs evident.
Christine added, âI have actually wanted to do modeling since I was in high school, but did not have the confidence. I remember watching shows such as Americaâs Next Top Model and thinking âThese girls have their own struggles, flaws, and difficulties⊠but if they can do it then so can I!â After a while I realized that some girls are in-demand because of their uniqueness. Sometimes those unique qualities are seen as flaws or weird in the world we live in⊠But in the modeling industry, unique qualities are what sets you apart from other models and makes you stand out.â
So instead of hiding in the dark and fretting about her flaws, Christine did the opposite and used those âflawsâ as her strength, her uniqueness. Owe it to a good-positive mindset and attitude.
Christine, basically, is THE âATTAGIRL!â
Frederic is into minimalism. Shares that heâs learned to be a minimalist when he left France in 2001 and traveled for 10 years.
He owes his focus to the philosophy of minimalism. Adding, âBy suppressing what is not essential, Iâm able to do more what I love. I try to work with the fewest materials or products possible without sacrificing quality.â
Without sacrificing qualityâding! Ding! Ding! Music to the consumersâ ears and you better believe it.
On the designs of the temporary tattoos, Frederic said that the designs âdepends, sometimes I create original, sometimes I do what the client wants me to do, and sometimes I reproduce and adapt art from other artists. In that sense I am flexible. For my clients, I do not force them to get what I want; I do what they ask for.â
INK, his organization and/or a collective of artists was established in Vancouver in 2012 and it develops quality tattoo products and services.
Frederic added, âAt INK you will find make-up artists, photographers, hair stylists, and models. We all bring our skills to achieve a result. We want to make a difference by bringing temporary tattoos to the next level and for that reason we do not focus on profit, instead we try our best to deliver quality work.â

Frederic had told me that he discovered Christine ârandomlyâthrough a Face book group about models and photographers.
âAfter seeing her in some photoshoots, I was so impressed by her unique and natural beauty that I got in touch with her. I shared some Pinterest boards with reference pictures with her so she could have an idea about the theme. For that photoshoot I wanted to focus on simplicity, so I did those trees on her back, extremely basic, as I wanted to do something delicate and minimal to compliment her natural beauty.â
With the help of Sebastien, the photographer, and Elody, the make-up artist, their vision, imagination and peg were beautifully executed and made.
Frederic concluded, âChristine is easy to work with and [is] very professional.â
