Part of a new backdrop for my Halloween Village. Up next is the waterfall.
What are the names of the horses Utena and Anthy ride in the OP?
Anthy: Epona (a goddess for a goddess)
Utena: Macha (outraces the horses of all other princes)
also a homura doodle. understand her deeply
The Second Maxim: Respect Your Elders, They Know More Than You
My elders, or Elder Selves, have been me and more. I will show them every courtesy, and set aside anything I am engaged in to fulfill their requests. I will speak to them only when spoken to, like the well-mannered child of parents' dreams.
It's prime time!
Putting away the 40k stuff and starting up the pipeline for the holiday villages.
"If it can run DOOM the Chinese can hack it" is the new "Told you so" for those of us who've carefully maintained ancient Apple II hardware.
We shall arise from the ashes like the phoenix to greatness as we save America with a total lack of blitters, GPUs, and frame buffers.

I hate rgu fan's refusal to accept the idea that the show is racist. anthy is a south-asian coded racialized character who unfortunately plays into a lot of stereotypes associated with south asians. the only reason we know she is south asian is because of the bindi on her forehead. akio as the representative of the patriarchy is south asian and plays into the "brown rapist" stereotype. the only reason anthy and akio were racialized was to Other them. to say that the show is a thoughtful depiction of racism and colonialism is to give the show far more credit than it deserves. to say that race is a blind spot in the show is doing much the same. that's not to say that any analysis of utena through the lense of race is worthless, it actually adds to the show's critique of the structures of oppression. especially since racism is kind of inseparable to them. but that analysis can go hand in hand with acknowledging the show's inherent racism. a lot of south asians, including me identify with anthy as a character and they have given a lot of excellent meta that enriches the show but i don't want anyone to use that fact as a card to deny her orientalized depiction.
to add to this, a lot of rgu fans who try to analyse the show through a racial lense will impose western ideas of race onto the characters, this feels like ignorance of the very idea that racism can exist beyond the white/poc dichotomy and it's racism within itself. every character in the show is japanese in a japanese setting, anthy and akio are racialized due to being the only south asians in a majorly japanese setting. any analysis of utena that doesn't take this fact into account is worthless.
It only took three decades, but my Exodite Guardians defending the Maiden World of Kallinda are finally finished. Plastic box and blister I bought in '94, plus some metals picked up over the years.
Since everyone wears their original armor, I added the cloaks (from The Printing Goes Ever On) for a visual link on the battlefield, green glitter paint to give them the look of holo-camo.
Hopefully the Heavy Weapons squads won't take anywhere near as long.
Before you make fun of Lindsey Grahamâs death, ask yourself if Donald Trump would mock the death of somebody he disagreed with and whether Lindsey would make excuses for that mockery.
Then⊠go right ahead and make fun of Lindsey Grahamâs death.
With shared themes of limerence, objectivizing control, and possession as a perversion of love, Happy Sugar Life is the 21st-Century update/successor to John Fowles' The Collector. In this essay I will
tumblr pisses me off so fucking bad why does no one ever wants to talk about WHO is working in the slaughter houses and under what conditions. everyone is always like âoh you care more about cows and pigs than the exploited farmers having to produce your quinoaâ (as if only vegetarians and vegans eat quinoa but w/e) and its like girl who the fuck do you think is slaughtering these animals? Slaughter houses are shady & dangerous places w/ a long history of failed regulatory oversight. not to mention the mental aspect of having to slaughter animals on industrial scale every single day. These workers are mostly immigrants and refugees and theyâre being exploited. Fourteen year old children were found working in slaughterhouses in California like lollll yeah and you paid for that. calling yourself a âleftistâ and defending the industrial breeding and killing of animals is hypocritical it just is. and thats fine like weâre all hypocrites but letâs get off that high horse and get a bit real okay?
The biggest labor dispute right now in the US is over meat packing plants enslaving immigrants and segregating people based on their language so they can't ask for help
Makes you realize why Upton Sinclair's The Jungle is rarely assigned at the high school level in the US anymore. Every situation mentioned above was investigated and called out in 1906.
Americans used to have outrage.
When I talk to someone whoâs just started RGU, it can be difficult to articulate the purpose of certain scenes without giving later plot points away. Nothing encapsulates this dilemma more than Anthy getting slapped.
Throughout the first arc, Anthy is slapped at least once per episode, often more. With the synopsis I give people about RGU as a master of subtle manipulation, theyâre usually like, âSubtle???â (because this show cannot be recommended without discussing that aspect. âOh, but spoilersââ nope. Ensuring people arenât triggered comes first). This is also coming from someone who nearly dropped the show because I was tired of seeing a brown girl get physically abused every thirty seconds. The student body (mainly Saionji) slap Anthy, say sheâs worthless and publicly humiliate her, to which Utena steps in as her prince on a white horse to defend her honor. Anthy is treated like shit, Utena saves her, repeat.
Then she loses the dual to Touga, and the vibe completely shifts. Thereâs sort of a running bit amongst live-bloggers where they keep tally of the number of times Anthy is slapped, but that only really happens in the first arc. Anthy accepts Utenaâs kindness not because she believes she deserves it, but because Utena tells her to accept it. Even the cathartic moment where Anthy slaps back is revealed to actually be Utena. With this revelation, Utena wins back Anthy, and though the episode most definitely marks a turning point in their relationship, Utena still, and I cannot stress this enough, wins back Anthy to regain her own confidence.
The second arc begins, and Akio enters the stage. Saionji, the showâs biggest encapsulation of Anthyâs overt physical abuse, is expelled. Touga, the big bad of arc one, is completely absent. Utena thinks she finally has a handle on the situation, that her and Anthy are now on equal footing, but that couldnât be further from the truth. This big, heroic, âI know exactly who I amâ moment against Touga only marks the end of the first of four arcs.
The first arc sets up a type of abuse you clearly see and object to, only to pull the wool over your eyes with Akio. Akio, who never publically mistreats Anthy. Akio, who invites the engaged into his home, into the trap heâs spent years setting up. Remember when Anthy used to stay up late in the dorms watching infomercials and eating chips? I do.
So, yeah, when I tell people to stick with the show, I donât mean because it gets better. It gets far, far worse, in both covert and realistic ways, and thatâs precisely the point.
"We want a traditional Tridentine Mass in Latin!"
That's cool. It's not forbidden. All your priest has to do is ask his bishop for permission to say it.
"We want strictly gendered conservative clothing at Mass! Veils! Long dresses! Suits!"
That's cool too. Implement a dress code. Lots of parishes have them.
"Well, what we really want is to go back to saying 'Pérfidis JudÊis' after Communion and blaming the Jews for killing Jesus!"
That's not cool. Get your heretical asses out of here before we call the Inquisition.
"Woke up like this, feeling burny, idk might delete later."
Guardians who join the Exodites retain the armor of their original Craftworlds, some lost for millennia.
