So many people on this website (and wider society) treat misogyny as something that woman can 'run away' from or just avoid if she's smart enough. That if she just dates the right men, chooses the right job, the right friends, the correct hobbies, and consumes the correct media, then she can free herself from patriarchy or atleast the worse of its effects.

Not only does this set up patriarchy as something individual and nebulous (therefore able to avoided with correct individual actions) rather than something systematic and wide reaching, but it also sets up misogyny experienced by women as being that women's personal failing. And therefore, somewhat deserved. After all, what did you expect when you married a man Like That? When you went into one of those kind of jobs, when you picked up That hobby? When you read that kind of book?

At its core it gives women no room for complaint (after all if YOU chose better YOU wouldn't be in this situation), diminishes the importance of organising (why organise when misogyny is experienced due to ~life style choices~ rather than systems of oppression) and lastly obscures the very nature by which patriarchy functions, centering women in a way that implies they bring patriarchy upon themselves rather than have it inflicted on them BY men. But what can I say? Who doesn't love to blame women for it all.

#it also puts more stress onto an already unpleasant/ stressful situation #Because the woman is left with misplaced guilt and might try to analyse what she did or could’ve done in a situation #where she did nothing wrong. She was the receiving end of misogyny but now shame has traded places #Where the act of sexism is normalised and even blameless and the being a victim of sexism is something that could be avoided and thus-#could be your fault #I have a big mouth on me so im def guilty of being like ‘omg why didn’t you say this or this’ or thinking like how do u even get into this-#situation #And i do think there’s room to acknowledge safer ways to move through the world #but also in most cases even discussing what we should’ve done differently as women when we’re talking abt certain incidents #takes the blame away from the man and pushes it towards the woman #Giving the women discussing the situation a false sense of security and a feeling of superiority over the other woman/ victim #Which will then in turn make them feel even worse when inevitably sexism happens to them in their lives

I should be doing more to appreciate the lack of marvel movies in today's popular culture. I once yearned for marvel movies to have this level of irrelevance. They used to feel almost ozymandian, like an empire that had no beginning and no end. and now tony stark iron man is naught but two vast and trunkless legs of stone.

It's often the most male-catered to and even misogynistic media that feature some of the deepest and borderline homoerotic relationships between men. But that is to be expected. People think that patriarchy enabling homoaffectionate relationships between men is a bug, but it's actually a feature. True love can only come from a place of respect, and men often don't respect nor esteem women. They don't see women as capable of intellect, or strength, or imagination or even humanity. Those attributes are reserved to men. Which is why men's true love is often reserved for other men while women are just props to them. That's why it's easier for a lot of male writers to create stories about supposedly heterosexual male characters having the most world-shattering (accidentally romantic) bonds with other men, but not with women that they're canonically attracted to. It's because they can't fathom their male protagonist being so deeply affected by a woman's character, since women are to be lusted for and kept as props for their little domestic fantasies but never truly respected or admired as individuals. The ancient greeks were more honest about this stuff because they understood that patriarchy and male/male affection went hand in hand.
