Idk, tumblr is just fun and writing is also fun and they seem to mix pretty well so...
Anyway, rn im hyperfixated on Wild Kratts and am losing it over all the AUs I'm seeing here. So much so that I'm writing a WK fic, (ignoring the other 3 fics I have that are WIPs hehe...)

Remember that post of mine where I mention that the Tortuga is a nightmare to navigate??? Yea, well now that I drew out a room of the ship for Call and Response, I decided to also just... make a blueprint of the whole ship as well.

The Tortuga - It will basically be broken into three separate levels. The lower level (garage), the middle level (main room), and the upper level (balcony). Starting from the top, the upper level is literally just a balcony that wraps around the inner circle of the main room and has a ladder to reach the top of the ship. The only thing here that I changed from the show was giving it a ladder (I have not seen any way to get up there than just freaking jumping).
Skipping the middle, (don't ask me why I did that), we have the garage. I made the Tortuga have a single garage door on the ship's right side (left if you are facing it). This door opens just like in the show, where one of the shell panels lifts up, exposing the door. From there, when you walk in, you have the entirety of the garage open to you. On the tail side, there is a doorway that leads to a ramp. More on this later.
Adjacent to the door are two small rooms, one on either side. I was thinking one of these could be the laundry room while the other was just a simple storage closet. To the head side of the garage is another door, but this one leads straight to the underside of the cockpit. There is an episode (or did I make this up/dream this) where I swear there was an access panel in the cockpit. That panel had a ladder down to what I'm gonna be making a small hallway/maintenance duct to the garage. This is basically the neck of the ship.
The opposite side of the garage, there are a few rooms and/or just more garage space. Racks for the manta riders/diving gear/climbing gear, etc.
Now onto the middle level, the main rooms of the Tortuga. That ramp from the garage leads up to the tail door into the main control center. This room is the one we always see with Jimmy's teleporter, Aviva's workstation, that large computer, etc. That door between the fridge and the main computer leads to a hallway in the outer ring of the shell. This outer ring holds many more rooms for the crew. From here you can go left, which will lead to the bedrooms, or right, which leads to the cockpit and more rooms. (I can't decide where these rooms specifically are and in what order, but say it goes clockwise starting at the cockpit, kitchen, infirmary, storage, maintenance/utility, bathroom, bedrooms 1-5.) (Damn, that's a long walk to the bathroom.) Fear not! That ramp I mentioned on the tail side also has a door that connects to this hallway system! Awesome!
Just for more clarity, because you can't tell in the ship and I honestly think I designed this backwards to how the show actually has it now that I'm thinking about it. The tail side of the main room is where Koki's communication station is. The head side is Jimmy's teleporter. Again, to go clockwise starting at the head side it would be: Jimmy's desk, teleporter, Aviva's workstation, tree, Koki's workstation, tail door, main computer, head door, the fridge. (This fridge is actually the reason I started all this, and it is literally my reference point when I watch episodes. I am not joking.)
I think that about covers everything. If you are confused, (I might still be), feel free to ask questions! This is my reimagined Tortuga, and in my fics when I reference literally anything on the ship, this is the map I will have in my brain. cough cough Call and Response

Not me sitting in the car trying to write Call and Response chapter 8 and as I'm trying to explain a room in the Tortuga I go, "Wait a minute. Let me draw this out". So I go and buy a new sketch pad (I forgot mine at home and I'm on vacation) so I can draw the room so I know exactly where everything is.
So I guess chapter 8 will come with a detailed image of the Tortuga's infirmary. How fun!!!
So I'm still working on Call and Response, but I have a lot of ideas after that. I'm curious to know the fandom's reactions to them.
I'm going to write about at least these ideas at some point. And probably not in the order that this poll will go. Two ideas were inspired by @gloomy-girlypop and @littlecrittereli, respectively. (Let me know if that's okay :) )

I thought I would add to this and let y'all know that if you have questions about what these options entail, please ask. I am so down to talk about these stupid ideas that I have. Some of these ideas are almost completely fleshed out, and I have an outline or a general plot overview for them, so I could totally answer questions.
I am going to finish Call and Response before I work on any of these, of course, because then I probably wouldn't finish it. But Idk what I should start on first?! The Toodles idea I had is the most recent. All cause of @gloomy-girlypop's amazing AU Wild Kratts: ALIVE.

But in the show, Toodles only appears once and after that...? Where did he go? If Zach can make his zachbots copy people, why not do it more often? My thinking is each Zachbot gets one person, and after the Chris one failed, Zach just kinda... threw it out.
And bro has no care in the world for nature and protecting it, so he drops the bot out of the plane and Toodles is now just in the African Savanna fending for himself. And he takes on the role of 'Chris' because he's a biologist. He's a conservationist. He knows about these animals. So why not just... be Chris? (The info is based on what the machine looks like. It would be easier to survive in a frame that looks human with the facts from the humans.)
But that's the basis of that idea. The poll is a fun little interest thing I thought of doing. Super interesting that a lot of people like the classic CPS malfunction and stick with it. It's a classic for a reason!

Does everybody remember the movie Brother Bear?? I'm listening to its soundtrack as I'm working and now I can't get out of my head Martin and Chris as the two brothers.
This is how I know that my Wild Kratts phase is in no way about to end because I'm doing something so mundane while listening to music that those two idiots keep popping up in my head.

Someone needs to stop me. I keep having ideas, and if this keeps happening, I will get nothing done. NOTHING! Within the last hour I've already somewhat planned a whole 'nother 2 fics + a mini-series. And I have to finish Call and Response, a 3rd fic that's WIP (it has a doc and literally 2 pages of written stuff already), and that other planned mini-series.
AND THE TWO FICS FROM TWO DIFFERENT FANDOMS THAT ARE JUST SITTING THERE COLLECTING DUST THAT I HAVENT TOUCHED IN 1 AND 2 YEARS RESPECTIVELY! GAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm kinda obsessing over this small little idea of realistic conservationists. So much so that I did a little research session (60+ mins). I am in no way a field biologist, or know what they do specifically, but I have spent a good amount of time in classes about environmental protections which includes animal conservation. It was mostly laws and what we as normal people can do, but that's something. (Please correct me if I have anything wrong.)
CW for: Discussion of wildlife diseases, injuries, humane euthanasia, invasive species management/eradication, and wildlife mortality.
Heads up, this is a long one.
To start, researchers out in the field normally take a 'hands-off' approach. Animals that are sick, injured, or deemed unrescuable are left alone as nature intends. Rescue and rehabilitation only happen when certain criteria are met.
1. Endangered/Threatened
This is self-explanatory. Endangered or threatened species have low count gene pools, so every individual is important for the survival of the entire species. Certain animals that are not immediately under this category but are still considered high-priority are apex predators.
2. Location and Habitat
Species in national parks or reserves are hands-off. Natural disease, injury from predators/predation, or starvation/dehydration are natural and are important ecological processes that keep populations healthy.
If an animal is injured and a danger to humans, rescue and rehabilitation are now considered and normally taken. But if the animal can not be healed 100% or becomes habituated to humans (used to human presence), release back into the wild is not viable and the animal is normally humanely euthanized (unless it is an endangered/threatened species or can be used for education).
3. Injury/Illness
If an animal is inside an outbreak zone, think Chronic Wasting Disease in Cervidae, then moving the animal risks spread. If the injury is directly caused by human interference(oil spills, plastic, illegal poaching, vehicle collisions), then biologists will step in.
Now, field biologists and researchers do take animal lives. It is inevitable. But these situations are strictly controlled and monitored. One example of this that I have researched previously is the invasive Burmese python in the Florida Everglades. These snakes compete with the natural mammals of this environment, out-compete them and destroy their habitats, their homes, and their lives.
If you see a python and capture it, you are legally allowed (and required) to humanely euthanize it. The transport of these animals is illegal. No license is needed to hunt these animals, and it is allowed year-round in specific commission-managed lands. You are allowed to keep the skin and or sell it. You can also eat them if you want, but the FWC has an advisory notice to not consume them because of the high level of mercury found in the meat.
There is actually an event coming up in July. From July 10th-19th, people can register for the Florida Python Challenge. The TLDR of this challenge is that individuals (or teams), professional or novice, go out and basically hunt Burmese pythons. The team with the most captured and humanely euthanized snakes wins a prize. But this challenge isn't just 'kill as many snakes as you can'.
This event is mainly about education and raising awareness about invasive species and protecting the Everglades.
Everyone has to take a test that ensures that they can identify the invasive snakes and the native snakes while also learning/understanding the humane ways to kill them. It is 2 steps. Knock unconscious, and then sever the spinal cord/destroy the brain. This last step is called pithing. (A link is provided if curious.)
Another invasive species the U.S. is fighting against is the feral swine. 12 states have eradicated their populations within their borders, but they are loose all over the country. These hogs spread disease to livestock and humans while also destroying environments and native species. (Links to the USDA website are provided below.)

After that long and condensed deep-dive, let's get back to what this post was originally gonna talk about.
A series perchance of small snippets into what goes on outside the lenses of the camera. Past the 22 minute window of creature adventures. What conservation doesn't normally talk about.
Through all this, I've come up with minor scenes and even a name for this darker take.
The Out of Frame AU.
Assisting wildlife veterinarians. Disease monitoring and control. Invasive species removal. Human-wildlife conflict. Poaching investigations. Tagging, tranquilizing, and relocation of dangerous animals.
Martin spending hours looking over tissue samples of a diseased animal, filing paperwork and logging data. Chris waiting with an injured fox, hoping the vet says rehabilitation and not the alternative. Aviva editing her suits to reduce animal stress during captures and relocations. Koki talking with state and federal representatives, confirming that their permits and comprehension of regulations are up-to-date.
If there's a situation where something biologically hurting one animal could spread to the others, which brother would do what? Which brother would look at that animal as an individual and try to save it. Which brother would see that individual, look to the population and go, "It needs to go to save the rest."
I had another story idea where I take Wild Kratts and just make it more realistic. Take conservation, and show its true colors. The good and the bad.
There was this post I saw and it's been in my head since.
This is my thinking but Martin would be the one who sees the population over the individual. He would do it. But not because Chris isn't able to, but because Chris would and Martin wouldn't want it to affect him.
Martin graduated 4 years before Chris. Martin has been a researcher for 4 years longer. Martin has seen all there is to do. Martin has been trained with no shield. But not Chris. He doesn't have to do it. Martin can be that shield for him. If only for a little longer.

To weirdly add to @mynameisfanfic's incorrect quote saga, and to just add more WK stuff into the aether, I present to you this:
Aviva, Koki, and Jimmy in the Tortuga. The brothers are out doing... whatever they normally do.
Koki: I don't understand how he does it. One moment, he's falling out of a tree and crashing into a very protective mama grizzly, and the next he's cuddling and playing with her cubs! How does he do that!?
Jimmy: I don't know, but it's really creepy. He's like a human cheat code, but with nature.
Aviva: *slams her hands against the table*
Koki: Aviva, are you okay?
Aviva: "Oh my god, he's water, the universal solvent! Holy fuck."
Jimmy: Huh?
Aviva: Water! He just flows right into any situation and bonds with everyone! Breaking down their walls in an instant! And if you're not watching him, he leaves a mess!
*Chris walking back into the ship covered in mud*
Chris: Hey guys... I think I'm gonna need a little help.
Koki: What's wrong?
Chris: Mama Griz won't let Martin leave. He can't get further than 15 feet from her before she's scuffing him and carrying him away. I- uh, may have made her think I was kidnapping him...? She's not... very happy with me right now.
Aviva: *pointing aggressively at Chris* SEE! I TOLD YOU!
I just watched the armadillo episode and what was this? I feel like I just watched a weird Wild Kratts fever dream. Like, I can't be the only one who immediately got unusual vibes from this episode, yeah?
But before I begin, Martin Kratt (and Chris, I have no doubt) is an artist, and I love that. And he's a good one, too! And this is real! I watched the wild dog Be The Creature episode and was SHOCKED to see Martin drawing the painted dogs. (I took screenshots because I wanted to take a closer look.)
I guess it never occurred to me that they would be good artists. Like, it makes sense. Studying animals in the field, and that includes anatomy. But DAMN!
But back to this episode. They were so obsessed with shapes the entire time, it's a kid's show, but it got really weird. I feel like we devolved in education level in this episode with the repeated "A square has 4 equal sides!!!!"
But Shapes is so freaking cute. So I forgive them.
I'm getting side-tracked again. BUT! Does Chris look younger in this first photo compared to the second one, or am I still crazy???? (Maybe cause his facial expression shrinks his head shape and makes it rounder. That's probably it cause it happens a lot and all I can think about is @littlecrittereli 's Guardianship AU.)

They freaking stole the boy's armadillo friend to make the power suits. And this happens to be a running theme because the girls (a bit OOC) are just so enamored with how cute it is that they just... idk. The format is different and I'm not used to it and it's just... a bit uncanny.
Why does Zach care about freaking shapes!? Just to be better than the Wild Kratts!? Zach did not have to be in this episode.
But if he wasn't we'd never would have gotten these amazing scenes. Zach bragging that his head is a perfect triangle and the crew was like, "OH MY GOD HIS HEAD IS A PERFECT TRIANGLE!!!" Martin going, "I've never noticed that before!" killed me. Followed with the, "Who cares if his head is a triangle?"
Which leads to a bowling competition!? Guys, this feels like one of my dreams. And my dreams are weird. Very weird. I literally had one a few days ago about my mom having a boyfriend (she's been happily married to my dad for 25 years), and with some turn of events I, as a vampire!?, was going to either kill her boyfriend or make them split up somehow? HUH!?
Yea. Weirdness. But Chris concerned about being a bowling ball hurting. And Martin just, "Yes, let's freaking do it." They are so cute. Martin is so stoked to be a bowling ball. Okay bro. Live your dreams!
Why do the pins have neon sign displays of the crew? He took the time to program neon signs of their faces to be projected over the pins so he could hit them. And they cheered against him! His own program. His Zachbots! You can't convince me that the Zachbots don't have some form of free will. (Toodles is proof.)
So they beat Zach, save the armadillos and Zach's only point is... they cannot take away is that his head is a perfect triangle. Okay, sure. We learned that armadillos have hard shells, and are good diggers. They normally have one baby called a pup, and the Three-banded armadillo is endangered. Did I miss anything? I feel like this isn't a lot. Maybe I missed something cause of the weirdness this episode was.
Overall, cute episode. I really enjoyed it a lot. Very all over the place, but enjoyable all the same. My dreams are like this so totally normal for me xD. The animation in this one was great though! As i get farther into the series, the animation gets better and smoother and you can really tell. The subtle movements and facial expressions. Characterization through body language. Defiantly feels more alive!
