Remember, the crowd that's saying "using dark magic is fucked up no matter when or how you use it" somehow thinks they're being nuanced and are rejecting the binary of right and wrong.

So, Callum using dark magic to save Rayla? That's the "right thing" for him and his life, but plenty of others may have very different opinions.

Who are these people who think otherwise and that he should just let Rayla die? Are they in the room right now?

Thinking about Callum being confronted by a Dark Version of himself that he then refuses (but who is still undeniably a part of him), and how then Viren confronts an Uncorrupted Version of himself who he then accepts as still part of him. And that happens through the mirror for Viren, but for Callum it happens through the cube. And in order to connect to the ocean Arcanum Callum had to accept that dark part of himself, the part that would do dark magic, that would do "anything for his family, however dangerous, however vile". He essentially un-made his s2 choice to deny Dark Callum.

Turns out this isn't a "however dangerous, however vile" situaton, it's a "doing the right thing" situation.

Lol some folks have a really hard time admitting that Rayla did something terrible except in the context of "they both did something wrong" or "Callum is worse."

Let's be real for a moment here: Rayla is the reason Callum is closed off with her. He has no issues communicating or reaching out to anyone else, but with Rayla the last time he was vulnerable with her she abandoned him. So, he was understandably unwilling to open up to her as a means to protect himself, something she could have easily resolved by either apologizing or making some bare-minimum overtures indicating that she knew she messed up. But since Rayla was never going to do that, they were stuck at an impasse until Callum did the emotional labor for them both. Hence, s4 Rayllum in a nutshell.
