as a quest 2 owner considering getting a (refurb) quest 3 for the better lenses, what don't you like about that headset? I know the Frame is coming but the price diff is likely gonna be so large they can't really be compared, right?

almost everything about the software experience of a Quest headset is, to me, infuriating. specifically and especially as someone who runs primarily PCVR titles, the Horizon OS experience is intrusive and annoying. i hate the pop up notifications that refuse to go away unless i actively tab out of the thing i am playing to dismiss them. i hate the front and center advertisements/recommendations for apps and games i will literally never touch in my life. i dislike the analog sticks, especially given i had to replace one of my controllers due to stick drift. i hate the microphone.

Meta as a company is also just something i personally intend to kick to the curb as soon as possible and would recommend almost anyone do the same for both privacy concerns as well as just general distaste for their role in influencing the current direction of the VR landscape towards corporate heaven walled gardens riddled with ethical concerns and studio shutdowns and what have you. they're not the only soulless husk out there, but they're a pretty big driving force of basically all the things I currently hate about the tech industry. the only reason i stomached getting my quest in the first place was the convenience factor for my personal setup and even then i basically regret it big time as opposed to saving up for something like an index.

i would also, tbh, not write off the price difference as being so massive that it would not be worth waiting at least to be sure. we literally have no clue what the Frame will cost currently and last I heard (though i could be wrong) Meta is pulling back on their strategy of selling hardware at a loss. with prices for even old hardware going up these days there's just no telling what the comparison will look like. and personally i just can't imagine what kind of price difference there would have to be in order for me to choose sticking with a company like meta as opposed to paying whatever the frame costs and knowing that for the forseeable future i have a headset that is not only standalone and portable if necessary but also is treated as a computer with little to no restriction on what i am allowed to do with it moving forward. it has the exact same or at least a comparable pancake lens setup as the quest 3, it has a full standard set of gamepad buttons on the controllers INCLUDING TMR sticks that are often advertised as drift-free because the chance of stick drift is so small, it has a better microphone, and it's not only standalone capable but ON TOP OF THAT it has a dedicated solution for wireless PCVR streaming that will almost certainly stomp on every current solution that doesn't involve, like, getting a dedicated router just for your headset. and even then it might still win due to foveated streaming closing the bitrate gap.

but these are just my thoughts, you gotta do what you gotta do and i will admit the pricing thing is definitely a valid concern. i would just urge you to wait until that concern is validated and go from there while really considering the actual product you are getting in either case and whether it matches your personal needs and values. after that, up to you and i hope u have a good time regardless :)

Sonic 06's "Sonic Man" NPC raises some questions. Most importantly, is he engaging in some form of racial caricature by pretending to be an anthro hedgehog in a world where anthro animals coexist among humans. Does the furry fandom exist in the Sonic universe? Are they engaging in cultural appropriation? I know Archie used to use the term "furry" as a racial slur against the animals but that's Archie and not canon. Are there human supremacists in Sonic's world? Is human-mobian marriage taboo? dc x sonic metal legion is kinda terrifying because at the end of the first crossover tails, cyborg, and flash used chaos energy + the speed force to reset time back to before darkseid showed up, undoing all the damage. but in metal legion it's established that everyone can remember the events of the first one in spite of the time reset so that means if anyone died during darkseid's invasion (which is pretty likely) they just come back to life with all the memories of their death and being dead and that's really fucked up I think
