its raining cats and dogs in perú. really glad we decided against hiking— above treeline would not be fun today! instead i drank a whole pot of coffee and curled up with a book in the coffee shop. went to the market in the pouring rain and got some yummy groceries for dinner. quinoa cooked in orange juice and stir fried broccoli, peppers, beef, mango and garlic fried in seasame oil with passion fruit hot sauce and soy sauce on top! so fucking good. the picture isnt that pretty cause I had all ready started digging in. also scored a kilo of strawberries for 2 soles (~0.60 cents).
really feel good lazy day. the book I am reading is called mauprat by George sand. its so good. i can't recommend it enough. now to motivate myself to do 15 minutes of Nike training club.
olivia-gets-fit:
Scrolling through my dash I saw a post that read: “show him what he could have had.” Just as I was about to reblog, I realised what a load of consumerist bullshit I’ve allowed myself to adhere to. Do I, or did I ever really think that I possess more value as a fitter version of myself? …
fitspo like this is perpetuating the FALSE notion that you are only as good as your physical appearance. not to mention, why would fitness be about making your ex regret breaking up with you? whatever his or her reasons were, you are broken up. dont dwell, work out for yourself. not for your fucking ex’s opinion. Jesus. and if said person dumped your ass for body reasons they are a piece of shit.
putting off loving yourself until you reach some arbitrary level of fitness is counter intuitive.
leahbec:
Fitspiration is any message that encourages one to persevere, push, or even suffer through exercise for the sake of achieving change in one’s physical appearance. It masquerades as a healthy response to images of size-zero models that promote unhealthy weight and potentially lead to eating disorders. However, they’re doing the exact same thing – only from a different angle.
To me, fitspo is no better than thinspo. Here’s why:
Fitspiration asks me to focus on my appearance. Under the guise of improving what my body can do, it places a hell of a lot of emphasis on how my body looks.
It’s just as triggering. During my phases of disordered eating, fitspo blogs worked just as well to “inspire” me in my eighth, twelfth, sixteenth hour of not eating.
It’s just not accurate. My sister, who weighs a lot more than I do and carries a lot more fat on her body, can run faster and longer than I can.
Look, not all fit bodies are the same. And not everyone’s motivation for working out and being fit is the same. Personally, I work out to feel strong and to lessen my depression. That’s why the Feminist Fitness tumblr is so disappointing. I crave feminist fitness blogs that understand that for some of us, fitness is about the way our bodies feel, not how they look.
this.
I’ve been looking for them and I can’t find much online. fitness seems to still be so tied up with “an end result”. end result being your perfect body. but I’ve realised recently that this is not something that’s ever going to make me happy. i need to feel happy with myself now and stop striving for this fabled perfect form.
i really wish there was more support and role models for feminist fitness on the internet! because fitness can be feminist, and doesn’t have to be about being hot. it can be about achieving goals, relieving stress, feeling proud of your accomplishments and so much more.
i want to bring yoga into my life! does anyone have any tips for a beginner?
doyogawithme.com is a great free resource! also, if you have a local yoga studio near by get yourself enrolled in a hatha or yin class. these are the most beginner friendly. a hot class is fairly easy pose-wise but very intense because of the heat! anyway, hatha gets into the technical aspects of yoga but at a slow pace. they are very good compliment a few hard gym days and to learn how to do poses correctly. yin is even slower and really good for deep meditation. it is less about technique and more about chilling out. you hold the poses for 4-5 minutes each so I'm not joking when I say slow going.
hope this helps!
How to keep fit while travelling?
So I am in Peru right now chilling in a coffee shop. Its raining so we put off hiking today because its dangerous to be above treeline in thunderstorms. We get free breakfast in the morning (which is three buns and a crepe) and its not very healthy. Without denying my free hostel breakfast, what are some tips for eating healthy while travelling and also maintaining a good fitness regimen. do you think something like 30 minutes of body weight exercises a few times a week is enough? Or an hour of two or walking?
not pro ED
I just want to reiterate that this blog used to be pro ED. it is absolutely not that any more. i have left the old posts up to remind myself how miserable I was (and i can't be bothered to delete). so I apologise if they are triggering or make me look like a jackass. i was a jackass (still am sometimes). but I am making a really solid effort to change my life and feel at peace with myself. If you are following my blog, I sincerely hope you are trying too.
this is me. i don’t look like a yoga instructor. or a Victoria’s secret model. I look like myself. and I can honestly say I am OK with that. i also look cross eyed and smug as fuck. haha
I hiked to a fucking glacier yesterday. 14 700 feet.
not looking for tips on starving but please help my I am brutally overeating and I can’t help but dedicate my money and time to meals and snacks and desserts and thinking about what I could eat.
my weight is getting dangerously high and I am starting to harbor feelings of intense shame and self-hatred
please help
hey girl,
so an approach that might help is, continue to eat what you want. don't stress about it, stressing will make it worse. but a good start is just slowing down. and i mean that in a lot of different ways. chew slower, wait until tomorrow to hit that craving... slowing down will space out your caloric intake during the week and give yourself a lower daily. chewing slowly will help you feel full faster and more satisfied with your meal. trying to eat smaller portions of shit food helps too (but if you don't trust yourself not to binge out don't buy/order more than a small portion).
good luck. healthy eating is good too. but one step at a time. don't be too hard on yourself. i have a big problem with overeating too. but remember, there will always be more awesome food to eat. you don't have to eat it all in one day. :)

comments: flaws with today's eating... 1) would have been way more full if i had eaten more fruits and veggies 2)the spicy shrimp roll easily could have been switched with a maki roll. veggie maki is ideal. any way, not going to beat myself up too bad because i made the better choice by avoiding tempura-based rolls. 3) two timbits instead of just one 4) getting a latte. stupid. calorie laden + fucking expensive. no brainer. made a good choice by keeping it unsweetened, however
final assessment? all in all, not a bad day. was tempted by many things (dodged a bullet by not getting poutine or a full doughnut), yet managed to make some good choices under stressful conditions-- those being my emotional break down over the paper i was writing, work + class. joy to the world. thinking a little bit less about offing myself.
