Matt grins and bears the pain of the handshake. It’s not unusual for superpowered people to have strong handshakes and at least Illyana didn’t break any bones.
“I think I’ve met him a few times, yeah.” He casually stretches his hand after she lets go while nodding at Illyana. “It’s probably for the best we haven’t met, usually when I meet one of the X-Men it means something has gone wrong.” Wrong enough to end up in court too, which to his knowledge didn’t happen that often.
When she says that she just arrived, Matt can’t help but feel kind of bad, remembering the disorienting feeling of waking up somewhere strange very well. Perhaps Illyana has slightly more experience with situations like this than he has, but she could also very easily be just as confused. Or maybe they have classes about this exact scenario at their school, which wouldn’t surprise him too much.
“I got here not that long ago, a few weeks I think”, he shrugs. “I’ve asked around a bit and there’s a few people who have also been brought here. Some from our universe, but not all of them. Nobody really seems to know anything and so far there doesn’t seem to be any kind of… nefarious plan in action.”
“Yes that is... unfortunately how most people meet us. Or how we meet each other. That’s true for most super-heroes, really.” Illyana didn’t really have any friends outside of the community. It didn’t help that her main interests were horror, black magic, demonology, and so on. When you tried to tell your date about your favorite summoning spell, they tended to bolt.
“Strange. I keep attempting to make sense of it, but the more I do, the more random it seems. Grabbing us at different times, giving some of us more time than others to adjust. Some people who probably shouldn’t even exist.” Illyana briefly felt some kind of sympathy for Matt. Dumping a lawyer here seemed especially strange. Unless they were wanting for good legal defense here. “I suppose I’m lucky that I’m used to the whole dimension hopping thing, but I don’t envy everyone else.”
Illyana inches inside a bit, if only to get out of the cold. She’s very seriously regretting rushing outside without finding a jacket. “Could be worse. At least the denizens here aren’t of the malevolent, flesh-hungering variety. That is extremely not fun to wake up to.”
