My practice is an odd combination of various inspirations and a huge rule in my worldview is secrecy and subtlety, meaning that I don't generally post photographs of my rituals or overly detailed descriptions of my craft, but I do enjoy discussing magical theory and opinion. I actually do think we should discourage women from becoming housewives. Do not become financially dependent on a man. That's how a lot of women ended up dead over the years. A man gets violent suddenly and you have to choose between homelessness or potentially dying at his hand because you have an enormous gap in your resume and no degrees or certifications or anything that will help you pursue a career that will allow you to be financially independent. He owns your bank account. His name is probably the one on the car. Try and leave and he can report it stolen. Where will you go then?

And if you do become a housewife, take steps to protect yourself. Make sure you’re legally married, for starters; stay-at-home girlfriends have very little legal recourse to claim their partner’s assets in a breakup. Make sure your name is on the house deed/rental agreement, and have your car in your name, even if your spouse is paying for it. Have your spouse transfer money every month into an account solely in your name, so you can buy yourself things without needing permission, but also so you can save up to leave if needed.

If your spouse fights you on any of this, then don’t quit your job. The tradwife to poverty pipeline is real, and so is financial abuse.

also, many women/people experience controlling behaviour and domestic violence from their partner for the first time during pregnancy. don’t risk thinking “he’s just stressed, it’ll get better when the baby comes” because it won’t. neither you and your child will ever be safe with that man. get out as early and safely as you can

when you posted about "having slave records open in one tab because you're working on family tree stuff with your mom, and then having to explain to white people in another tab why BIPOC doesn't apply to white people" I felt that deep in my soul but also like a punch in the gut. that says it all about how dumb the entire "debate" here on tumblr is from the white folk that suddenly wanna be called bipoc. and seeing people give them a pass for their blatant racism while they go about it all is highkey terrifying actually.

I have to agree that it is genuinely concerning and frightening to see. I don't think that the users trying to push these ideas of redefining BIPOC understand or even at all care about the actual harm it does to individuals and to the community at large. There is, indeed, a lot of very blatant racism going on, and far too many are okay with overlooking that for access to... cliques? Poorly penned "essays" with biased "sources" and inadequate citations? Adjacency to... racists pushing revisionist takes and talking over BIPOC every chance they get? It's extremely alarming and, yet, not a bit surprising. Unfortunately.

As Matt Lieb of Bad Hasbara fame explained very eloquently, calling anti-zionism antisemitism tacitly assigns genocide and apartheid as a Jewish value, which is antisemitic.

Witches Love Jars

I’m really sick of this meme and I’ll explain why very simply.

The photograph of a craft store with $1 bottles lining the shelves followed by a silly joke about ‘witches love jars’ kills me.

This is purely aesthetic.

Those jars and bottles are $1 for a REASON. They’re $1 because people are being exploited and underpaid for their labor. They’re $1 because the materials used to make them are cheaply obtained in bulk and usually from places with poor or no laws protecting the environment.

You don’t NEED these jars. You want them.

Pasta comes in glass jars.

Jellies, soaps, drinks, pickles… They come in glass jars. Reuse the jars. Sure they may not look as ‘aesthtic’ but you can personalize them yourself.

If you’re a low spoon or disabled witch soak them in olive oil and soap overnight and they’ll scrub clean. It’s less effort than going to a busy store and buying them.

There is NO REASON for witches to engage in harmful consumerism.

This is a simple, easy, free, and earth friendly way to practice. There is no reason to partake in something so horrible for mankind and the environment.

lmao this is an incredibly old post, but as the person who created the “witches love jars” meme, can I just say that this is correct?

I made the OG post talking about recycled and repurposed jars. My jars were pasta sauce jars and olive jars and even hot sauce bottles.

At the time (or maybe slightly prior), the sort of icon of a witch and her jars was the youtube witch tiptoechick, who reused patron bottles to store her herbs.

Witches love jars was never meant to be about buying up a bunch of cheap glass clutter. It was literally about loving jars so much that you keep all of the ones you get because you’re going to find a purpose for it.
