Question of the ages: Why am I awake?
I just finished watching the “Darmok” episode of TNG. I remembered the plot immediately, but this time I found myself crying unexpectedly in the closing scenes. When I looked to see what others were saying, I found a lot of memes and making fun of or light of this episode. But I found the episode so moving. A supplement to the Kirk episode with Gorn. Here, Dathon risks and loses his life for the chance at connection. Riker unwittingly ensures the man’s death because he was trying to save Picard. And Picard here in the closing image, honors the Dathon’s life, sacrifice, and their shared connection.
Communication is such a difficult thing across just the next human--and even the ones you know very well. Our varied experiences and ways of expressing ourselves make it so that we are not always received in the same way we intended when we spoke. It takes a lot of listening, empathy, curiosity, and motivation to keep going. I feel like Darmok on the ocean quite often. And Darmok and Jalad on the ocean is such a beautiful image. Sometimes the beast at Tanagra is very immense--enough to cause serious injury. And sometimes the beast at Tanagra is also my failure to risk or listen or share.... I don’t know. I’m off track, but wanted to share how much I loved and was affected by this episode.
I watched this episode last night. And this ending had me. We work and work toward progress, but freedom is never protected. We must stay vigilant...in the 24th century and much more so now.
From "The Drumhead" (29 April 1991) by Jeri Taylor; [text pasted from Wikiquotes]
Picard: We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, is all ancient history. Then, before you can blink an eye, suddenly, it threatens to start all over again.
Worf: I believed her. I... helped her. I did not see her for what she was.
Picard: Mr. Worf, villains who twirl their moustaches are easy to spot. Those who clothe themselves in good deeds are well-camouflaged.
Worf: I think... after yesterday people will not be so ready to trust her.
Picard: Maybe. But she, or someone like her, will always be with us. Waiting for the right climate in which to flourish, spreading fear in the name of righteousness. [...] Vigilance, Mr. Worf. That is the price we must continually pay.
So this symbol is in the photos sent by China from its space craft and rover that landed on the far side of the moon. So we can obviously conclude China goes on to be a leader in developing Starfleet.
This episode right here had me gutted the first time I saw it it and considered the homophobia represented in this scene. And today again as I contemplate the transphobia. It's "The Host" from TNG where Beverly Crusher falls deeply in love with a Trill symbiont in a male humanoid host. Despite difficulty, she loves him when he must abruptly enter a temporary human male host, but when the symbiont enters a more permanent female host, Beverly's affect completely changes. The way she looks at her transforms to emotional absence. It's so very sad. And her pathetic excuse when rejecting her former and now female lover:
"Perhaps it is a human failing, but we are not accustomed to these kinds of changes. I can't keep up. How long will you have this host? What would the next one be? I can't live with that kind of uncertainty. Perhaps someday our ability to love won't be so limited."
Indeed it is a human failing, but it's not the fault of our species but only the fault of some of our imaginations. This post is today's reminder that we queer and trans and gender variant folks are real. We are lovable, are lovely, and the future is full of us and hordes that love and value us.

Some things will go wrong- asi es la vida. You’ll need a contingency plan to deal with the cycles of stress, turmoil, depression that you create for yourself and for the obstacles that are part of your process.

Asexual Services and Resources
Greetings everyone! I just finished a list of community services, guides and resources directed specifically to ace spectrum people (asexuals, demisexuals, gray-asexuals, etc.).
There’s also a Google Docs version available.
Thanks to everyone who helped me out, and to everyone who is working on the projects here listed <3
If you’re looking for resources in Spanish, hit me up here on Tumblr or in the Twitter @asexualenbreve.

Eugene gets me
This is why I’m so angry and resentful right now. I know this to be true, but this year I’m stuck with a writing deadline but making little progress because of how I feel about it. But too late because the deadline keeps getting closer. I will never do this again.
we took a field trip to the art museum today and this guy looks just like me when somebody barges into my room while im drawing

Yo ADHD folks are you looking for an app to help you remember to get stuff done?
Because if so I’d like to recommend Habitica!
You make a little avatar of yourself!
Totally customizable!
And!!! If you’re wheelchair bound, guess what! Wheelchairs for your avatar are free! Check it out!
You have the categories of Habits, Dailies, and a To-Do list
And every time you check something off, you get health and XP!
Huzzah! I leveled up!
Use your XP to buy items and rewards!
I'ma give my little avatar a new helmet!
You also can get little pets!
I hatched a dragon!
Go on quests!
Need a break? Check in at the Tavern for as long as you need!
It’s a habit tracker and to-do list… As a video game!
And here’s the best part - ITS FREE!
I have gotten so much better at getting things done because when I do I get to check in and get a reward right then! It really works for my ADHD brain so, so much better than just a regular ol checklist and I just really recommend checking it out!
For my fellow ADHD Famders, since I know there are so many of us!
I’ve been looking for apps that will help me remember to do stuff, maybe this will work for me! Thanks!
“Kissing Doesn’t Kill“ (Black and white postcard) from 1980’s ACT UP campaign for HIV/AIDS awareness.
This is the banner that was put up on buses to create awareness! a lot of companies cropped out the bottom so I thought it would be cool to share the full version

Our Amazing Solar System
The American artist Mike Stilkey was summoned by a bookstore in Seoul to design large-scale mosaics created with books.

I just like the use of the word “summoned”. Like dude wasn’t just hired, nah, they had to perform a whole ritual to get him there to do art.
Kevin from the marketing division got sacrificed.
Which looking at that artwork, worth it tbh.
