The interesting thing about tumblr for me is that the comparably less addictive algorithm means I have to go out of my way to look for things instead of it just coming my way, I find this to be a new experience lol

The social implications of potatoes got me thinking, do you know offhand of any good sources about like the society and class structure of Tawantinsuyu? The only things I've ever encountered about it are hilariously bullshit (no joke once read an article that described it as a 'Stalin-style collectivist dictatorship') and IDK offhand where to start with finding non-bullshit history stuff. It's OK if you only know stuff in Spanish, I know Spanish well enough to read it.
Oh, do I.
The Incas; New Perspectives by Gordon McEwan is a good place to start, if you want a textbook (not so long either) about the Incas themselves, this is it. The Incas by Terence N. DAltroy is similar but goes into a LOT of depth about society, culture, and even philosophy on the Incas, though the author does speculate a lot because of the lack of written sources.
However, these are academic works and they're a little dry and in-depth. If you want something more light-weight, I recommend the youtube channel Ancient Americas, the best English youtube channel about pre-columbian cultures by far. He has a whole video on potatoes.
I'm trying to find similar channels in Spanish but unfortunately they often go into Noble Savage kind of tangents or are so obscure that the Youtube algorithm straight up does not show them. I believe I found a couple of good ones, I'll post them when I check them out.
In Spanish, most I've learned about the Inca was in Spanish encyclopedias, but Tahuantinsuyo: El Mundo de los Incas by Teresa Vergara is a great in-depth book that is also quite easy to read with lots of illustrations.
Also, if you're interested in Inca and Andean mythology, check out the Handbook of Inca Mythology, which uses both historical sources and interviews with modern people, and has a handy dictionary-like presentation to mythological concepts and beings.
Chasca and Chuychu Redesigns! (Extra Notes Below!)
Augh, this took me like around 2 weeks, several hours of my sleep and a lot of my little remaining sanity- Also disclaimer I did draw over the outline of Chasca's official in-game weapon because respectfully wtf is that (I always draw weapons by myself as a massive weapon fan, but I was feeling fairly burnt out and that is perhaps the most extremely complex bow design I have ever seen in my whole life-)
ANYWAYS, onto some of the thoughts that went into the redesigns! For Chasca, I changed her vision to Pyro due to Ch'aska (the Inca goddess that Chasca is most likely inspired by) being associated with the morning star (along with being goddess of dawn, the twilight and dusk, as well as the goddess of beauty, virgin women and the flowers). Ch'aska's association with flowers also influenced the decision to add flowers in Chasca's design. I was thinking that Chasca's charged shot on her bow would be like a very bright burning star with ribbons of stardust + fire flowing behind her. The starry motif can be seen in her pants and in the inside of her hat. I had given Chuychu a hydro vision as Chuychu is a rainbow in Inca mythology and a rainbow is created by light that is refracted, reflected and dispersed by water droplets. I also had a fun idea of rainbows being created in the battlefield when Chasca and Chuychu work together.
Overall, I added a lot more gold within their redesigns due to the significance of gold within the Inca civilisation and used textiles from traditional clothes of the Quechua people. I had incorporated aspects from their original canon designs as well. Overall, I hope y'all do enjoy these redesigns! If there is any improvements I can make to these designs, please do tell me! However, if you cannot provide constructive criticism and only have a negative view on these redesigns, please do not interact with this post and move on!!
What do you think of..... Potatoes?
my mom once told me that potatoes were proof of the existence of a loving god
I do. Formally thanking Inti for his hand in Inca agriculture and potatoes
Axomamma is considered to be the Goddess of potatoes in Incan mythology. She is a neutral god whose whole responsibility is considered to be to help the Incan people with the cultivation of potatoes that had slowly begun to replace maize as the primary source of nutrition.
My bad. Thank you Axomamma

Urcuchillay, the llama lord. In the highlands of South America, among the beasts of the steppe a deity was revered. Urcuchillay, the Incan god of the wild. He appears as a rainbow wooled llama and was said to watch over all animals. Those who worshipped him prayed to him for the protection and proliferation of their herds, the prevention of storms and even sometimes to bring about rain. Urcuchillay was believed to embody the constellation Lyra, with the Incas believing it to be the divine flame of Urcuchillay. Urcuchillay’s origins have not been preserved, but it’s practically certain he was considered a descendant of Viracocha. Some have posited that he could’ve been a direct son of Viracocha, as Viracocha was believed to have been the one who created the stars in the sky, possibly meaning that he created Uruchillay as the constellation Lyra. But these assumptions are merely conjecture and are likewise inconclusive.
Urcuchillay was the foremost god worshipped by the Incan shepherds. His form as a llama attests the Incas reverence for the creature, as the Llama served many integral functions for Incan society. Their use of Llamas as not only work animals, but also their main source of clothing and even sometimes food, lead to the Llamas and alpacas to be held in high regard. Due to his popularity among herders, Urcuchillay was also bestowed with a weather god aspect, likely originating as a prayer to keep their animals safe from harmful weather, their worshippers possibly tried to extend the gods influence. Among the Incas, constellations often coincided with different gods and represented certain trades the god held control over. The constellations were also considered manifestations of the gods themselves, interconnected with the gods very being, this is directly seen in Urcuchillay’s connection with the Lyra constellation, as the Incan name of the constellation is Urcuchillay with the two being considered one and the same.
found this on a Wikipedia article about Quetzalcoatl (the Aztec deity).
Quetzalcoatl is not Viracocha. QUETZALCOATL. IS NOT. VIRACOCHA. THEY ARE NOT. THE. SAME. GOD. NOR DO THEY HAVE ALL THE SAME ATTRIBUTES. WHY ARE WE SPREADING MISINFORMATION????????
that’s like saying Ometeotl is the same as the Abrahamic God the Father because both of them created everything. WHAT THE FUCK!!!??????
anyways. i don’t study religion, i don’t do any of this for a living, i don’t follow the Aztec religion, I’m a Catholic — but wikipedia has made a Catholic REEEALLY mad over Quetzalcoatl misconceptions. STOP!!!! TELLING!!!!! LIES!!!!!!

We can do this
it will literally get ripped apart
It literally will not, trust me
the thing that will have to be planned for is both tectonic movement and the expansion and contraction of the bridge sections. That is why this bridge will need to have a bunch of ramps and gaps between sections that every vehicle going across will get to do sick jumps off of.
This will also prevent traffic from slowing down. "minimum speed to make next jump: 120 km/h" signs will encourage everyone to go fast, even if the engineers are being a little conservative for safety reasons.
it will work because we are pure of heart
