D2 is dead! (or so they say)

I won't lie, maybe it's the fact i've been branching out further from my earlier interests, maybe its the fact I really didn't care for the last two expansions, but I really don't feel much sorrow over today's news.

It's not as if the game will simply cease to be, it's still there and still playable. And as for the story well... there's over ten years of it to pour back over, to examine and toy with.

I suppose the question I'm trying to pose is, do we really need more? Why mourn the prospect for new things to consume (especially when the quality of that new material is far from guaranteed) instead of taking the finishing of a work as an opportunity to reflect?

A book doesn't stop being interesting just because you finished reading it. Why can't the same be true of a game?

Listen this only means there won't be any more new lore so we can finally finish all our fics and lore essays without fear of things being retconned. Let's look at the bright side

I'm sad about Destiny the same way someone is sad about their old dog with cancer dying. I was hoping we'd get more time and more of a resolution but I'm not surprised.

Like as much as they probably should've left off at Final Shape, I'm glad that we have a direction (and an interesting one at that) for fanworks in the future. The fandom and Destiny itself doesn't have to die just because the game is no longer getting content updates.
