Hey. So I've been waiting to share this since last summer, so now that I can finally do so...
I wrote a story for Obverse's second Paradise Towers anthology: "ICE HOT"!
Along with my own short story, it also includes new stories by Stephen Wyatt (Paradise Towers, The Greatest Show in the Galaxy) and several other expanded universe alumni (Faction Paradox, Bernice Summerfield, Leftbridge-Stewart and more) as well as other new authors, all edited by Kara Dennison (The City of the Saved, Forgotten Lives).
Pre-orders are open now!
Paradise Towers really is ice hot! Or at least that's what everyone told themselves at first. But then the youngsters became Kangs, the olde
Reblogging again, as the full list of authors has now been published (which I wasn't sure if I could share yet the first time round):
Stephen Wyatt, the original creator of the Doctor Who story, contributes an introduction and a specially-written story.
Also featuring new stories by Grace Haddon, Tim Gambrell, Dylan Crawfoot, Finn Clark, Mags L Halliday, James Middleditch, Matt Jordan, David Richards, J.E. Hogsed and Paul Driscoll.
I've been waiting to post this for ages, so here it is (even if it's technically no longer Pride Month as intended, shut up, I'm not waiting another year)!
An unexhaustive list of moments across every incarnation in which the Doctor is very straight, very cis, very allo, and very gender-conforming. /s
Or in other words:
[ID: The astronaut "always has been" meme - One astronaut looks at caps of the Fourteenth Doctor talking about finding Newton hot and Fifteen kissing Rogue, saying "Wait...the Doctor's queer now?". A second astronaut behind points a pistol at the first, replying "Always has been."]
In all seriousness, I tried my best to capture as much as I could. It was a more a matter of running up against the limits of what I can squeeze into a Tumblr post than anything else. Even as it is, a lot of the clips are more compressed than I'd like, and Tumblr's downscaled GIF versions are messing up some of my transparent borders.
A lot of stuff is more subtextual and gradual (particularly in stuff like the EDAs), but I tried my best to represent these with particular moments where possible, without clogging the entire thing up with subtle writing and acting choices. There's also a lot more I could have added in regard to cross-gender regenerations, of course, but I avoided too many of these since they don't necessarily imply genderqueerness on an individual incarnation / actor basis. It would also mean giffing every second Thirteen, Fugitive etc. are on-screen.
Obviously, some of these are much more stretches than others (jokes, friendly kisses etc.), before anyone feels like they need to dispute them, but fall nicely into the pattern with everything else, so were included too.
Finally, if you've got something obvious I missed, feel free to add below!
A very long GIF ID and list of sources under the read more:
[ID: A series of gifs showing moments in which the Doctor potentially comes off as queer, trans, asexual, or gender non-conforming, or at least is part of a subtext that can be read as such, distributed in an extended rainbow pattern roughly based on the Progress pride flag. In order, row by row:

Karl hoped so. But he didn’t say anything

'Don't you like it? I'm just helping out Mr Hornby with a slight gender imbalance. I got the wig from the TARDIS, but I think it works rather well with the outfit, don't you?' He brushed a stray hair from his face and grinned disarmingly. 'I had to improvise with the bustle though, using coat hangers.' He patted his wire-frame chest and looked comically startled as it dropped to his stomach.
Polly laughed and assured him that he made a most convincing woman, as he struggled to adjust himself.
48. BF - The Wormery:
DOCTOR: Love. Huh. Wrote a treatise on the chromosomal origins of love once when | was a small boy. Proved categorically which gene began it, which enzymes carried it, which electrochemical receptors translated it. Took all the fun out of it. Got a rubbish grade too. I knew Puccini once,' sighed Eight,
`He had the softest lips.' That's great,
But stay away from me, you sissy,'

98, 99. New Who - World Enough and Time - Twelve tells Bill of Missy, "She was my man crush!" "Wh- I'm sorry?" "Yeah... I think she was a man back then. I'm fairly sure I was too, it was a long time ago though."

Fitz swallowed hard. He was the one who was raving mad. He was in the midst of the most ridiculous danger, horse-riding down a mountainside, probably about to die and, in the final few minutes of his life, what was passing through his mind? Not the greatest, most fulfilling moments in this life - but a consideration of his chances of getting laid by Iris . . . and even of getting laid by the Doctor. What was it about Time Lords?

The Master
This entry contains information on one of Gallifrey's most dangerous enemies, the renegade Time Lord known as The Master. The Master has, in some fashion yet unknown, erased his Biodata entry from the APC Net. As a result, the only information about him that we now possess has been drawn from the memories of the Doctor. It is, therefore, highly subjective, and Time Lords consulting this section should be aware that The Doctor's perceptions do not always correspond with Reality.

He really had to get his peripheral movements under control.
‘But to her, though?’

134. New Who - Boom Town: Jack and Nine flirt with eachother watching Mickey and Rose. Jack starts, "Aw, sweet, look at these two. How come I never get any of that?" Nine, fixing up the TARDIS replies, "Buy me a drink first." "Such hard work..." "But worth it."
Recently I've been a bit inactive here, so I've been thinking about possible projects I can work on, and in light of the recent missing episodes discovery started thinking about the idea of doing some more creative video editing of some sort, like my old Doctor Who Regenerated and expanded universe gifs, which I've not touched in years at this point despite being possibly the main thing that brought me to Tumblr in the first place, focusing more on theorising, analysis, writing etc.
Unfortunately, I've suddenly realised it's hard to put any passion into this with AI video generation being a thing...
I always found the fun came from the effort put in to it, and gradually learning how to use tools to accelerate and improve the process. In some ways, generative AI is the culmination of this, but as someone ethically opposed to it in at least its current state, that's obviously not an option (and to be honest I don't think I'd get much enjoyment out of iterating prompts, trying to get rid of artifacts and hallucinations).
Meanwhile, the alternative is instead putting out what are, let's be honest, pretty amateur edits which will look far more stilted and limited to anyone viewing than all the mislabelled concept trailers and things out there today, created with a fraction of the effort. Obviously my edits have always been pretty basic looking compared to anything created by, you-know, actual CGI artists, but part of the fun was seeing how close I could get to that quality using my own skills. Counterprogramming AI doesn't really come with the same challenge and reward.
I don't know. Don't take this all too seriously: it's not like I'm a professional artist or anything having my livelihood effected. I guess I just wanted to vent my feelings on this, and explain why I've not done any edits like these in so long.
Any new/hiatus readers might have noticed some issues with the classongoing.com and classongoing.co.uk domains for this blog, which might have broken some of the links in our posts. This was due to a combination of the registration expiring (made more complicated by my recent move overseas) and Tumblr introducing an extra fee for linking domains to blogs. 🙄
However, glad to say classongoing.com should now link back to the appropriate pages. classongoing.co.uk is a bit more complicated to set up, but should be back in service shortly.
Ok! www. subdomains should be fixed now, which should fix all the links! Just had to add it to the DNS settings (probably should have been obvious to anyone with more experience with webhosting).
Feel free to message me or the classongoing account if you come across any broken links or similar issues.

Writing that last post, I noticed something very interesting about a detail on a 2023 Big Finish audio cover that, when I thought about it, turned into a much bigger mystery that I weirdly encountered back in 2022.
I have enough on my plate at the moment, but low-key kinda want to start a full journalistic investigation to understand how it happened. I was originally going to mention it in a reblog, but it honestly will likely deserve its own post.
Or maybe I should just go all in and turn it into the most niche, pedantic, special interested video essay anyone's ever seen. 🤔
Curious about your DWU maps (Gallifrey and Skaro) as was looking for some better alternatives than the oft circulated Gallifrey Map where one of the continents is just Pangaea.
Hey! So I've made a few iterations on Gallifrey so far. I actually posted my first rough draft all the way back in 2018 😳. Here's the most recent one though, which I shared recently - a map of the greater region surrounding the Capitol.
The full post of this is here, which includes a comparison with previous versions and a link to a full size image file, which people are welcome to print and use for their own purposes! It also includes a small world map in the bottom, which is itself an updated version of previous world maps I've made, though the last version I shared was just a sketch, and I've yet to do another fully updated one.
I've only done one take on a Skaro world map thus far, but you can find it here.
I assume in your ask you're referring to the Time-Lord-Rassilon Gallifrey maps?
I've never thought of the Time-Lord-Rassilon continents of Absolute Beauty, Serene Isolation, and Endless Philosophy looking like Pangaea, but I do see what you mean. In fairness, my Wild Endeavour could look a little like Afro-Eurasia if you squint, even if it's mostly taken from actual visual references of Gallifrey. (The main thing doing this is the Sea of Life, which seperates the northern continent from Southern Gallifrey in a way that looks a little like the Mediterranean, even if the actual shapes are very different and it opens to the ocean to the East rather than West.)
They were a great inspiration for me, bui I was keen to try and make a version that is a) less fanon based, b) updated to take into account as much evidence as accurately as possible, and c) more realistically scaled when it comes to the information we do have. When it comes to my maps (and actually all my speculation, especially with regards to Gallifrey, its language, culture etc.) I like to take in as much evidence as possible, even stuff that would otherwise be dismissed. For example, the landmasses seen, while partially based on actual information in prose/descriptions, are heavily derived from the actual visuals used for Gallifrey and Skaro (from places like The Dalek Chronicles, TV Movie, or even Good Omens's Gallifrey cameo or the EVE Online crossover)! Obviously these are often contradictory, so the big challenge comes in trying to combine as much possible and reason through any contradictions. I'd also try and think scientifically to fill in the blanks, thinking about how the potential plate tectonics of the planets might work.
For example: with Gallifrey's world map appearance, I mostly pull from Day of the Doctor and EVE Online, which use an actual realistic habitable terrestrial design for Gallifrey, rather than the more generic one we see in Invasion of Time and The End of Time, which lacks any clear landmasses.
Compare the coastline in the top right of the left DOTD image with the non-Wild Endeavour continents in my map! Meanwhile the right image gives the sea we see west of Trigovia. These have been lined up close together partially for compatability, but also partially by considering the lighting we see in these scenes.
(Fun fact: I actually reached out to Milk VFX to see if there was anyway I could see any other behind-the-scene materials beyond the effects breakdown they did for DOTD, to try and get some more planet details that aren't visible in the episode's shots. They actually did go out of their way to reply, which was really nice of them, but unfortunately they weren't able to do so, since a) the files associated with their work on DW, while not deleted, are archived away on their servers, and b) they wouldn't be allowed to as those resources are still copyright to the BBC. Obviously this wasn't a suprise and was very much what I expected to hear, if I even got any response at all, but I figured it was worth a shot. 🤷♂️)
In my head, I excuse it by imagining we're actually seeing the transduction barrier in the first two images, since that plays a big role in both stories (having to be taken down to allow the Vardans and Sontarans in in TIOT, and presumably protecting Gallifrey from the rigours of the Time Vortex during its de/rematerialisation in TEOT). This also makes sense if we think about how huge Gallifrey is compared to Earth in the latter, despite sources like the EDAs and The Infinity Doctors suggesting Gallifrey is roughly Earth-size - clearly the transduction barrier has been expanded as a protective and defensive measure.
Anyway, going back to evidence, I actually apply this mixed TV/Expanded Universe/Visual Reference method everywhere else too. Many of the details of the Capitol and Dryland areas are derived directly from the filming locations and CGI used in episodes like Hell Bent, combined with descriptions from places like Lungbarrow. I even use sources like the Guide to Gallifrey DWM illustrations, which gives us the big flat region south of the Capitol (also implied by the Citadel being visible in from Lungbarrow and the Barn), which I've given a placeholder name of "The Steppe of Rulers", inspired by the source image below:
While I generally avoided going full fanon with continent names and such (though I was tempted to give a shoutout to the TLR map using the same continent names, I opted against it to avoid passing on misconceptions and to avoid any appearance of plagiarism), I did include a few placeholder names like the above, mostly used for descriptive purposes to indicate the significance of a particular region. "Presusis" is the biggest example of this, since unlike e.g. "Fettaris", which is at least derived from the canon Fettarian Pass, or "Saga", which is based on a name used for the Capitol in Iris Wildthyme, which I thought worked quite well if you think of it as the name of the region containing the Capitol, Presusis is purely made up based on the Rassilon-like character of Presus from the Gallifreyan legend Blind Fury, which is also where Slothe and the surrounding area comes from. I needed a name for the region containing said town, so I chose to name it after Presus to note his significance, like with the Steppe of Rulers. I also figured it made sense, given locations like Prydonia being named after Prydonius and/or Lord Prydon.
(I will also add that, in the most recent Gallifrey map, there is also one piece of pure fanon. Since it was done as part of a zine, I offered to use the other writers/artists fan locations to help fill in the map as a shoutout and to fit in nicely with the other stories. I only got a response from one person, who asked if I could add their fan House of "Brightash", which I added on the shoreline of the Lune Forest. Everything else is directly, or at least derived, from actual DW stories though.)
While there was less evidence for the Skaro map, it was easier in some ways, thanks to the pre-existence of Terry Nation's Dalography maps and Strata of Skaro, which are directly integrated into my design.
The rest was similarly derive from a mix of on-screen and comic designs (the "Canyons of Terror" continent comes directly from the TV movie CGI, which - fun fact - was difficult to work with thanks to being lazily mirrored to make Skaro's surface.
Both the Skaro and Gallifrey maps are things I'd love to put more work into expanding in the future. Ideally I'd like to find some nice software that lets me easily make a Google Map style zoomable map, that I could use to easily sketch in details at different levels, like fans have done for things like Skyrim. That way I'd be able to integrate my world and Capitol maps together and potentially add details to other regions of the planet (maybe even collaboratively mapping the whole planet! This could even include some of the fanon locations from places like the TLR map, though ideally there'd also be a way to filter those out or make it clear what's "canon", in so much as that world applies to DW, and what's not). 🙂 Unfortunately, while I've found a few ways of making those kinds of maps, none have really had all the features or user-friendliness to make it feasible.
I'd also like to make some other maps eventually, both geographical and astronomical. For example, based on the look we get at it in World Enough and Time (shout out to David Gian-Cursio for unwrapping the rotating model we get into a partial world map here), I'd love to do a full Mondas map where all the locations are like alternative history versions of those on Earth (e.g. Albion for Britain? - though a different name might be better given all our versions of King Arthur's legend in DW, plus it's a bit "Fable") and playing around with the continental differences.
Funnily enough, it kind of resembles the Earth map we see in Steven Universe, with a similarly crunched Africa, hole in Siberia, and stretched out South America.
I'd also love to do some other planets. Some possible ideas include:
Ancient Earth (obviously kinda easy, but would be fun to try and map out all the Silurian and Sea Devil settlements - big challenge would be setting on an era for a world map, given how many times the Silurians have been assigned to).
Ancient Mars (similarly easy, but would be cool to map out Ice Warrior settlements and maybe meld in some of the other DW-adjacent Mars lore, like with Iris Wildthyme, War of the Worlds, and Captain Scarlet - I also love scientific speculation on Mars's wet past, so it could be based around that).
Karn (a bit difficult, but we have a number of orbital images now, plus you could tie in all the Seven Keys to Doomsday stuff too, and maybe add some Pythia references in location names).
Rhodia (we actually have a fair amount of information for Rhodia, between the sight from space and the off-handed mentions we get about the Rhodians and Quill)
Planets we got regional maps for in DWM: Marinus, Dulcis, and Spiridon.
Planets with little-to-no geographical information, but would be fun to develop: Sontar, Trenzalore, The Library, Midnight, Venus, New Earth, San Helios, Peladon,
The other thing I'd really like to do would be some system or galactic maps. Given how many planets we know are in the Milky Way, or at least the Local Group, it should be more than more possible to make a Star Wars or Mass Effect style map of it. I'd also like to map out Gamma Kasterborous, Skaro's system, Raxacoricofallapatorious and Clom's, the Akhet system etc. thinking about the actual physics and nailing down some proper distances, masses, ellipticities and so on, as I did with my Gamma Kasterborous Astrophysics paper I posted the first sections of.
Even local maps, like of the Capitol, Paradise Towers or Coal Hill Academy/Shoreditch would be neat to work on. TBH, once I eventually get some time to think about Class: Ongoing again (no promises as I'm likely to remain busy for the next month or so moving overseas and starting my new research job, but I still really want to finish Episode 5 and relaunch it - recently I've had a bit of an urge to do so using some sort of ARG like the one we got to participate in a couple years ago, which could include a Coal Hill Academy website and building map?), the latter might be the next map I work on?
Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is if someone reading this is connected to the BBC, Penguin, Obverse, Panini or whoever, please commission me to research and design a proper detailed Doctor Who Atlas, unlike the somewhat disappointing illustrated one we got in 2021. 🥺
I realise this is an incredibly niche, semi-personal post, but whatever...
So, I've just been double-checking on Wikipedia something about that second-cousin I mentioned in the tags reblogging that last post (Bernard Rose, the director)...
...and TIL I learned he's actually a frequent collaborator on productions with Matthew Jacobs, of all people?
Knowing this now doesn't really change anything... but how on Earth did I not find this out sooner?
Oh ok never mind, apparently they've only been "best friends" since film school?
You worked with legendary director Bernard Rose on Boxing Day, What can you tell us about his upcoming adaption of Frankenstein which you also appear in?
That could fill a whole book, but in short: we’ve worked together since film school and I wrote his first two features (Smart Money and Paperhouse). He consults with me on most of what he writes these days and we’re best friends. […] It was a joy to film and it’s always thrilling working on one of Bernard’s movies.

Anybody else got like,, rlly random connections to famous ppl?? Like my older brothers were friends w Jennifer Lawrence when they were like 12 and I just found out I’m friends w the cousin of the girl who voiced honey lemon in big hero six like, idk what I’m supposed to do with either of these tid bits I feel like I was supposed to live my life in ignorance of them
Between seeing an old version being reblogged and seeing other zine art/stories being shared, I realised I hadn't yet posted my piece from the @galliversary Pride and Politics zine: a thoroughly researched large scale map of the Capitol region and the surrounding sectors on Gallifrey, including Prydonia and Mancipia!
As it stands, this is the final version of such a map, but it is possible I may revisit it in the future? In particular, I'd like to redo the area around Lungbarrow and Mount Cadon to better match a new analysis of the views in Hell Bent, which I've mentioned in a past post. This version, by comparison, was based on a previous analysis and was weighted far more in the direction of Day of the Doctor's version of the region.
The other thing that would get me to do more is if we get some interesting new evidence / information that adds or changes something on the map, but we'll have to wait and see (after all, we're unlikely to get much from the TV show anytime soon, given the current status quo).
Now, the full file is sadly too big to actually upload to Tumblr, as you'll be able to tell if you try actually zooming in on most of the text, so I've had to compress it quite a bit. However, I've uploaded a larger version, in all its high definition glory to the WordPress I use for Class: Ongoing books and such, for anyone who would like to download the full version to look at or make a print:
#sort of incorrect as lungbarrow and heartshaven are on the other side of gallifrey (south) whilst prydos and riff city are in the north #still really pretty tho!!! (via @rassilonsleftbollock)
Counter-argument: all four of those locations are canonically based around Mount Cadon and near the equator.
Lungbarrow:
We know from Hell Bent that the Barn, presumably based on Lungbarrow's estate, is in view of the Capitol, so can't be that far away, despite ostensibly being in the South hemisphere (per State of Decay et al.) while the Capitol is in the North (per The Infinity Doctors). Hence, it is very likely that both exist very close to the equator, just on the North/South side of it. This is supported by Lungbarrow itself too, which tells us that the House, while being in "the Southern Ranges", overlooks the river Cadonflood, which presumably flows from Cadon. This implicitly would put Cadon in the Southern Ranges too:
'The House of Lungbarrow used to stand on the slopes of Mount Lung in the Southern Ranges about two days from Rassilon's Rampart, which was built to keep out the marauding Shobogans in the third century after Rassilon's death. The House overlooked the river Cadonflood which flows…'
It also tells us that the House is "two days from Rassilon's Rampart". While the method of travel isn't 100% clear, I would assume it has to be walking on foot, as even on Earth one could easily travel to even distant destinations much faster by plane. This is reflected in the choice of scale for the distance between Lung and the Capitol in the map, allowing for Time Lord physical capabilities / reduced sleep requirements. I assume Rassilon's Rampart is the wall around the Citadel, since that matches the description. We also know from The Infinity Doctors that the Citadel, as implied by its name, was built as a defensive structure, which matches this. A distance of 60 miles or so seems to make sense in this regard, which is relatively reasonable based on the view of the Capitol we get in Hell Bent, given how big it is (fun fact: while it's obviously CGI and not necessarily consistent, I actually used camera FOV numbers with an approximation of the Citadel's height to try and estimate the distance of the Capitol in this shot, which helped me get to that number).
(Interesting to note, this implies a couple of days may have passed during the opening events of Hell Bent, unless Twelve was able to receive a lift from someone, maybe whoever he was in contact with to get those reinforcements? cough-cough-Brax-cough)
Meanwhile, in Day of the Doctor's version of this location, you can actually see the slope of a very large mountain in the background, behind the nearest mountains. I personally take this as being the slope of Mount Cadon behind Mount Lung.
(However, i will note that, as I mentioned in the original post, I actually think this shot may be better interpreted as facing south, based on things like the DOTD novelisation and the Barn's orientation in Hell Bent. That didn't go into the current version of the map, but may be used in the future, so feel free to discard the above paragraph as evidence if you want. If this is the case, these mountains would instead actually be a view of the Southern mountains across the Drylands)
The Scarlet Empress also supports the view of Lungbarrow, while being in the "Southern Mountains" not really being deep into the Southern Hemisphere beyond the bounds of the civilised Capitol region, where the Gin-Seng Cats and Iris originate from:
The Doctor half listened as [Iris] described a life in the southern hemisphere of Gallifrey, which he knew very little about. And yet it seemed familiar, this wintry, fabulous vista she painted, in an oblique sort of way. All the while his eyes raked over the walls and ceiling of that raftered parliament, searching out a means of escape.
This is also supported by descriptions of the likes of the House of Ixion, which represents the southernmost point of Time Lord civilisation before the actual southern part of the mountain range:
There’s nothing beyond this outpost but the southern mountains, and nothing
in the mountains but hermits and feral cats.
I specifically imagine the range extending deep to the south (these would be those mountains Ten describes in Gridlock, for example), but technically reaching north enough to include Lung and Cadon. I also reckon we got a glimpse of this range of mountains as part of the mindscape in Power of the Doctor, if we theorise that the landscape is meant to represent the Drylands, a bit like how Lungbarrow itself appears as the Illogical House representing the Doctor's past:
If you include The Three Paths (which I didn't in this map, as has been discussed in the post where I showed off the earliest version of it), then Mount Lung and Cadon are literally one and the same! While I don't go with that idea here since Annihilation and other stories contradict it, headcanoning a slightly different connection between the mountains, it does add another way that Lungbarrow can be near Mount Cadon. It also states that the Capitol is within view of Lung/Cadon, to the North:
At the Academy, they’d called this place Cadon; in the family home, Lung; in the legends of unhappened days it was called something else again. Far below, to the north, he could see the Capitol lights. He was home.
Heartshaven:
Speaking of evidence contradictory to The Three Paths, Gallifrey: Annihilation (on a different Gallifrey, but given Prydon's conclusions in regard to Romana are correct, we can assume the Prime Gallifrey reflects this) makes it clear that Lungbarrow isn't on Cadon per se. However, it does explicitly state that Heartshaven is:
PRYDON: I'm detecting a hint of Mount Cadon, unless I'm mistaken, so that rules out the houses of Goodlight, Warpsmith, and Lungbarrow. Hm... so we're looking at either Firebrand or Heartshaven.
Prydon narrowing in on it, however, suggests to me that the other Houses he mentions aren't far from Cadon, just not on it, hence why I depicted all those Houses as being nearby, which also matches all the implications that Lungbarrow isn't far from Cadon, like the Cadonflood line above.
Prydos and Riff City:
We don't have much in the way of sources for Prydos and Riff City, so we'll probably have to rely mostly on descriptions of the Prydonian Academy, since both sources I'm aware of referencing them indicate the Academy is located there. The Garden of Evil quite clearly sets the Prydonian Academy as being in, or at least near, to Prydos and Riff City.
Meanwhile, though it's deliberately written quite ambiguously, Gallifrey: A Rough Guide states the Prydonian Academy is in Prydos, and/or may be found on the slopes of Mount Cadon. It implies this is separate from its location in Prydos, but I see no reason to consider these locations mutually exclusive:
On Cadon's slopes, you might find the Prydonian Academy; if you missed it in Prydos City, that is.
In regard to Cadon, this line cites Timewyrm: Revelation, which indeed states:
They say that no two snowflakes are the same. But nobody ever stops to check. Above the Academy blew great billows of them, whipping around the corners of the dark building as if to emphasize the structure's harsh lines. Mount Cadon, Gallifrey's highest peak, extended to the fringes of the planet's atmosphere, and the Prydonian Academy stood far up its slopes.
Lucifer Rising also places the Prydonian Academy on Mount Cadon, and explicitly describes it as being in, or at least bordering, Southern Gallifrey. Given the ambiguity of where "Southern Gallifrey" actually starts, we could interpret this as either being in the North or South hemisphere, though it seems quite likely to be around the equator regardless. Technically it slightly contradicts Timewyrm: Revelation, placing the Academy closer to the base, but I think we can just take this as a sign of how big Cadon is, that "far up its slopes" can still be near its base:
Acedoctorbernice turned on her heel and left, only looking back when the dirty linoleum became softer and rose up beneath her feet, but all he could see was the tiny blue flowers which carpeted the slopes of Mount Cadon, their long stamens waving gently in the breeze as they searched the air for un-wary lizards, flicking back in momentary alarm as Doctorberniceace climbed past them, returning to their search within moments as their small vegetable memories forgot that anything had disturbed them. Down at the base of the mountain, where its slope blended gradually with the arid plains of southern Gallifrey, the Prydonian Academy erupted in ebony splendour
Finally it's worth mentioning that the sector of Prydonia, as used in this map, comes from Gallifrey: Arbitration, where it is said to be in the South (or at least south of the Capitol and Mancipia?). It thus makes sense to me that the similar named Prydos would be there too, likely as a sort of 'capital' to the region, which would also contain many of the major Prydonian houses, including Heartshaven and Lungbarrow.
***
In all seriousness though, thanks for the compliment and critique ^_^.
Yeah, not everything fits 100% perfectly - see the "Three Paths" discussion we all had on the first iteration of this map - but I've done my best to take a "best fit" approach to all of the information available, including with regards to the North/South Gallifrey stuff. It was nice to provide a bit of an example of my reasoning here.
I am actually curious where Prydos / Riff City being in the North as you say comes from, as I don't think I've come across that? Is it from taking the Time Academy and Prydonian Academy to be the same location? I personally treat them as distinct, albeit connected on an organisational level, with the Prydonian Academy controlling a Prydonian College within the Time Academy. I will point out, however, that even if there isn't a seperate Prydonian Academy, the above sources would still place it not that far from Lungbarrow given the Capitol's proximity.
While researching this I did actually notice one possible issue, which is the placement of the ruling House Prydon on Mount Cadon. I assumed this would be the case, given Prydos and the Prydonian Academy's location, but Lungbarrow describes the "Prydon Chapterhouse" as being in the Capitol. I guess this isn't necessarily a contradiction, as the Chapterhouse may just be the general headquarters of the Scarlet Chapter, rather than the ruling House itself, but it is a small strike against my interpretation. I do think I stand by it though, since my placement also works well with Annihilation, with Prydon's vampire base seemingly being on Cadon (him not mentioning House Prydon in the above quote either due to his own familiarity with it, or it not existing due to the point of divergence in the timeline).
I mean I was basing my stuff off the only official map (I don't consider nuwhos depictions of gallifrey correct in any shape or form-sorry but it seems like they only watched half of s23 and called it a day on their research)
Here is that map!
So both these land masses are next to each other. Serene isolation joins up in the north east with wild endeavour in the north west. (You see the little tail at the top, that directly borders the bit at the top of wild endeavour- the same tail continued).
We know that the pydronian academy is near both Prydos and Riff City. On this map the Prydonian is the most far north academy on Gallifrey. Cadon however is on a whole other continent. (Okay it doesn't show it on here but on the other map which shows these two on a globe it labels that part as a subcontinent/its own continent??? You can see the border line faintly but for some reason they just didn't label it here as well...)
Low town is also, not near the capital, but as the slums are often near enough to big cities we cna hazard a guess that Mancipia or Acardia are nearby. Same with the Mid town and Patrexia, which are (assumably) near the Patrex academy.
Now in between Mount Cadon and Mount Lung there is the River Cadonflood and in a lovely and absolutely mental BBV audio Tom Baker mentions living in the capital city Shadonai when it flooded, specifically watching the slums wash away from the mountainside. Whilst this is a throwaway line done in one of his mania-esque moments its helpful for me. The fact it was a capital city (drumroll pleaseeee~) provides me with the greatest joy to announce that Gallifrey is most likely NOT A MONOLITHIC CULTUREEEEE!!!! (YIPPPEEEE) And also implies that they have seperate countries, bringing us back to the different label for the sub(?) continent. The name 'Cadon' is used for the whole area and many other "country" names (as well as regional) are used on the bigger one (which for some reason I don't have save on my phone but google map of gallifrey and it will come up after a bit of scrolling dw). Anyway I'm yapping and getting carried away (they have religion, holidays, dishes and alllll squeeeee).
Also as for chapterhouses being nowhere near the actual area, the patrexes have a whole planet they escape to remember? I doubt very many of them return to gallifrey often, and the fact that every time we see a chapter house it's almost abandoned kinda implies that no one lives there, maybe the house where the largest sub-covern family unit ends up is relabelled as a chapterhouse? Nothing is rigid on gallifrey, not really. And also, its all made up so we can kinda do what we want (grabs my leela and romana figurines to make them kiss)
Ah ok. I am familiar with that map, but I don't think it's official, is it? I'm pretty sure it's fan-made, just like mine. (Unless it's since been published somewhere?) I believe it was done by time-lord-rassilon on Deviantart (though it's since been hidden or deleted, maybe they're planning on updating it?), I think with some collaboration with Marnal Gate from the ROO website?
In fact, part of a reason I originally wanted to make a map of Gallifrey was in response to it! Since it doesn't really fit a lot of sources (like those above, even excluding New Who), plus it's out-of-date at this point. I also wanted to be more accurate with the scales involved, since everything on that map is so spread out, when realistically a lot of locations ought to be much closer together. Low Town is a good example, since like you said it's actually meant to be much closer to the Citadel dome, per The Eight Doctors:
Low Town has grown up around and between the mighty pillars which support the base of the Capitol at its outer edges. Over the years, Shobogans and other Outsiders have settled there, one foot in the Capitol but with the Outlands reassuringly close in case the pressures of city life
Granted, you could assume this is a little further from the centre of the Capitol if you imagine the dome as being wider than in New Who, like in DWM or The Infinity Doctors, but a quarter of the continent away on the other side of a mountain range doesn't really make sense.
I do still like the map though, and it was a bit of an inspiration to me in making this originally. I just don't think it's very accurate to the actual lore, and was more trying to map as much of the surface as possible, distributing quite a lot of locations fairly randomly, or at least spreading them out over a wide area roughly based on descriptions.
I also believe some of the locations, like the other continents, are complete fanon, since I've never come across any sources for them. I do know some of the ROO pages includes some fanon from fans' role-playing games and things, so maybe they're from one of those? Fun fact: when I was map-making, part of me actually considered using some of these names for the continents I mapped combining CGI of Gallifrey in space + book descriptions, as a bit of a homage, but I decided not to as it might have come off as plagiarism, plus it might have misleadingly reinforced the idea that these locations are 'canon', even though they don't seem to be.
I do agree with you though, that I don't think Gallifrey is entirely monolithic! I mean, I think it is effectively overall, but I do believe it is subdivided into its own regions which may have their own capitals. That's kinda what I was thinking with regards to the academic cities, plus I imagine Olyesti, Arcadia etc. are the same. In fact, Time Lord Fairy Tales actually supports this, if you assume that some of its settings are on ancient Gallifrey, since it includes kingdoms like Barnakadon and Orcustan (which I included in my world map!). I doubt those exist as kingdoms per se nowadays, but they could very well be mostly self-governing regions with their own capitals.
Ooh, I didn't know about Shadonai, other than I think maybe reading it mentioned somewhere some time ago. That could certainly be one of those other cities. What audio is it from?

Just adding, because I find it a little cool to see the progress of how this map has expanded and changed over time, here's versions 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 all next to each other:
