Rowan had a troubled start to life. it did not help that since she was 10 years old she had been followed by an entity who insisted it wanted to have a family. (tw: needles, eye stuff)

When she first became a proxy at age 14 it was nice. she enjoyed helping her friend, until after a few years, the sickness scrambled her head so badly she didn't know which way was up. So *It* tried to fix the issue, an experiment. giving some of vile darkness that it was made of into her. Orbital lobotomy, a needle through the bone in the eye socket to deliver the black ichor to her head. directly to the problem. Trying to fix the daughter he created. Instead it made her realize she was being controlled, a puppet. The slender man did not take kindly to her rebellious phase, deciding to place her in a time out. Letting the mortal police catch her and throw her away in a cell until he deemed her ready to return and after 7 years, she did. Returning to a house full of people. A delusional found family.

Welcome to Hart's Pass, a small town located in Tennessee at the boot of the Appalachian Mountains.

Many would say Hart's Pass is the perfect place to disappear, being surrounded by dense woods and holding a population of merely 1,782. It's one of those towns where everybody knows one another, and yet nobody seems to give a fuck.

Where old, beat up pickup trucks roam the streets, dying lights hang over diner tables, swings creak idly in autumn breezes, Hart's Pass is nothing special to most. But if you ask the inhabitants within the town, they'd say there's plenty to talk about in the old town.

The Woods, they'd say. Avoid the woods. For it resides there. That Faceless Thing, they call it. The thing that takes the form of a tall, faceless man, luring victims into the woods surrounding Hart's Pass. Often, they're never seen again. In the rare case they are? They've certainly got a story to tell.
