On a late night screw around this past weekend; we drove past some guys causing a ruckus on the old sign manufacturing companies wall.
Right out in the open, scaffolding up, lights against the wall, music playing. Having been a wannabe bomber for a few years, I had to investigate.
Turns out it was Volcom artist Matt French; doing a piece for the soon to open Asland Bewing Company. I awkwardly asked if he minded/would allow me to photograph him at work; expecting a quick “fuck off”, I instead got a “Yeah dude, go for it.” Slowly I got closer and closer to him while he was working, more and more comfortable getting inside his work space.
He occasionally muttered a few words, describing the process and what was going on in his mind, along with the occasional request to pass him a can his way. I happily did so.
In the end, Matt French is a boss.
