Anzac Day - April 25th

In Kerry Greenwood’s excellent Phryne Fisher Mysteries series, Phryne’s personal history includes time spent as an ambulance driver during the Great War (WWI). 

In the equally delightful Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries produced by Every Cloud Productions , the specter of the Great War is a recurring character itself. Through flashbacks, we learn that Phryne was a frontline nurse rather than an ambulance driver as in the books. Both are incredibly dangerous positions, and both were done by women during WWI. 

Although there was no Australian women’s ambulance corps, women from all over the world made up the ranks of the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corp. There were plenty of Australian women on the frontlines, primarily as nurses, blood transfusionist, and medical masseuses.

April 25 is designated as ANZAC (Australia-New Zealand Army Corps) Day. It’s the anniversary of the Anzacs landing at Gallipoli in 1915 and is national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand. 

The day broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders “who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations” and “the contribution and suffering of all those who have served”

We chose this piece because here in the Northern Hemisphere it is the Winter Solstice - the longest night of the year. 30 Days of Phryne

Is Phryne your artistic muse? 

Calling all artists who work in the medium of Phryne Fisher! This year we are planning a “30 Days of Phryne” social media event featuring your fan art. We plan to start our thirty days of posting on TV Phryne’s birthday, December 21, but since this will also include book Phryne’s special day, January 12, let your creative mind go! 

Your art can be any media you like - sketching, painting, digital 2-dimensional art, a photo collage, papercraft, fabric arts, or something we’ve not seen before.

We want to celebrate all things Phryne and, of course, YOU!

If you want to help us fill the calendar, we ask that you email us two image sizes of your art - a square 1080 pixels x 1080 pixels and a landscape 1024 pixels x 512 pixels - by December 1. Please also include your personal social media handles so that we can tag you in our posts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Tumblr. We can’t wait to see the many faces of Phryne Fisher!

We have two ticket options available, 

1) In-person where you’ll join us July 15-17, 2021 at the glorious Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia, USA.

2) Virtual where you’ll join us from wherever you are in the world online.

IF you feel you can travel, the In-person option offers an experience rich in camaraderie while still being mindful of everyone’s safety. Miss Fisher Con 2021 In-person will have some content exclusive to the In-person attendees. 

But if you can’t make it to the In-person event, and still want to participate, the Miss Fisher Con 2021 Virtual may be for you! We have some excellent sessions lined up for you this year, (we’re always amazed at how much we learn every year!) that will be available to Virtual Con members.

 In addition to our excellent sessions we have also confirmed two celebrity interviews!

Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears Director of Photography Roger Lanser (seen below with a few familiar faces) will be sharing some rare behind-the scenes stories and images and for In-person attendees doing a Q&A. Roger is an absolute delight with a long career in the film industry. He has been a DoP on many, many projects - you’ve probably seen his work apart from Miss Fisher.

We also are pleased to announce we will be interviewing Ms Fisher MOD herself, Geraldine Hakewill !!  Ms Hakewill reprises her role as Peregrine Fisher starting June 7 on Acorn TV! We’re excited to be able to watch the 8 episode 2nd series and then talk about it with the fans at Con! 

You can watch all of your favourite Miss Fisher Episodes and Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears to enjoy Roger’s amazing camera and lighting work, and all of Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries on Acorn TV!

Miss Fisher Con 2021

Registration is now open to all!

We are thrilled to be able to provide both an in-person experience and now a virtual option. If you are signed up for our newsletter, please check your inboxes.

There are some in-person registrations still available, but not many! We plan to use the vast spaces of the gorgeous Jefferson Hotel ballroom to spread out and keep our safe social distance. We have been coming up with clever ways to be together and yet still mindful of health and safety.

And now we will be providing a virtual option!  Registration will be limited and It will not be the full in-person experience, but it will be filled with a selection of the planned sessions, participation in a virtual masquerade, virtual get-togethers, Crypt of Tears re-watch, an auction and other fun activities.
