I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who has trouble remembering developmental milestones. I put these together, but can’t take credit for any of the photography. Hope someone finds them helpful!
YES I NEED THIS. :D
Time to use this for writingggg
Woah i was potty trained at 10 months
My conversations with children
Okay as a fifth year education major in a wheelchair who is constantly around very curious kids and very paranoid parents, this is single-handedly the greatest video I have ever seen!
A gentle reminder that accepting disabled people doesn’t mean ignoring their disabilities.
“That happens sometimes.”
that’s what I’m always saying: kids, especially young kids, don’t need every detail explained to them. generally speaking, they will accept what a trusted adult tells them. so if you tell them “yeah, sometimes, people lose their legs”, they will just accept that. I mean, they accept a woman with wings breaking into their room while they sleep to buy their teeth from them, but somehow, parents think “yeah, people that are different from you exist” is too much of a concept for them to grasp
kids don’t need every detail but some kids might need more detail so they don’t think the leg will just fall off
Me: *Removes my cat from my lap to do something else.*
My cat: Father is...evil? Father is unyielding? Father is incapable of love? I am running away. I am packing my little rucksack and going out to explore the world as a lone vagabond. I can no longer thrive in this household.
The spiritual successor to Miette
Might I also add
May i add the piece from artist Verbal Vomit
Glad to see we’re all in agreement that cats talk like disparaged victorian children
You attract what you are and you create what you think about. Act like the person you want to become. Think like the person you want to become. Nothing changes in your life unless you make the decision and commitment to change it. Hold an image in your mind of how you wish to see yourself living. Visualize it everyday and you will unconsciously start to do things that will move you towards that goal.
that last line is absolutely phenomenal is this why yall are so keen on therapy??
An interesting perspective to consider
“if no art makes you feel anything, make your own art and feel something” is too raw of a line to have come from a jenna marbles video of her painting a rainbow/polka dot seahorse saying “it’s seahorse time” on a denim jacket
Relatable
Yes. Reading excessively as a child for a lot of us was a form of escapism. But part of the reason so many of us struggle to read now is because we based our entire taste in reading on what helped us escape, but as we get older and our needs changed, a lot of us never adapted our reading tastes. So we keep trying to read YA fiction and it just doesn’t hit the way it used to and we assume it’s because we can’t read like we used to, but the reality is that we need a new genre of liturature to suit our new life experiences and mature taste.
I feel very seen right now.
ppl w nonbinary genders are not all just “between” male and female. gender isn’t a male/female zero-sum game pls stop
this took me a while to unlearn, until someone basically said “look, colors are a spectrum. if you assign pink to women and blue to men, that doesn’t make every other color a variation of purple”
^potentially helpful way to conceptualize this
Thinkin about how as kids parents told us to clean our rooms without having ever shown us how to themselves, taught us any organizational skills, spatial management, or any other knowledge necessary to know how to efficiently tackle a mess without getting overwhelmed and then got exasperated when we as ten year olds didn’t just……figure it out
This is not a dunk on my parents for the record. I had wonderful parents growing up and still have an amazing mom. I think this is just one of those smaller and common things of parenthood that I think addressing would be monumental in reducing a very common household stressor. If parents led their children in cleanups and helped them reason out plans to manage their time and stuff, especially neurodivergent kids, the entire household would be a lot more calm, streamlined, and overall happy I think!!!
I’ve got one 7 year old perfectionist (possible ADHD) and one sweet 5 year old hurricane (DEFINITE ADHD) and me (also brain full of cats, despises prolonged supervisory things). Here’s some things I’ve learned specific to that that are also generally good for teaching kids to clean. (Or yourself.)
1. If you want a kid to clean, first you have to teach them to even see mess. They don’t! But it does stress them out.
“Okay, let’s look for something out of its place. If it’s on the floor, it’s out of place. If it’s on your bed and it’s not a blanket, it’s out of place.”
2. Go by category, it’s easier to find stuff to put away if your search engine has a specific target, and it’s more satisfying and efficient to put away a big chunk of mess at once.
“Got something? Ok, are there other things like it? Let’s find all the BOOKS. I will HELP YOU.”
3. Important!! Don’t walk away from a kid with focus issues expecting them to instantly learn a task and finish it! You are setting them up to fail! The first several times you need to be there for the whole process and demonstrate by helping. That motivates them. They feel less panic that you’ll bail and they’ll be stuck alone not knowing what to do next. Narrate what you’re doing, too. Help and supervise less as they seem to need you less.
“I’ll get the books on the floor, can you help me get the ones under your bed? I can’t fit!”
4. In my experience most kids, but especially kids with ADHD would walk to the fucking moon to help you, they just need a clear plan, keep the criticism light, short, and to the point, and ffs PRAISE THEM when they do things right, cause we’ve all (I hope) seen the statistics on how much more negative interaction they get compared to other kids (and rejection sensitive dysphoria is a motherfucker). But more than praise you need to show them how what they did was good for THEM. Do nooooooooot take this opportunity for an ‘I told you so’ or a ‘finally’ or you will suck out all their accomplishment.
“Hey, great job, you found that horse you were missing because you cleaned! And your room looks so nice! It’s really comfortable to play in now, and you did that.”
5. Emphasize it does not have to be perfect or complete to be worth doing. I don’t want to will my kids my paralysis of inaction because I can’t start part of something unless I can do all of it.
“We don’t have time to do the whole room, but let’s pick up the legos before bed so you don’t hurt your feet. And then it’ll already be done tomorrow!”
Other small but important things: make sure everyone is fed and not cranky when you start, including you. Do what YOU need to be in the right patient headspace for this. Put on music. Get coffee. Take breaks! Take dance breaks, tickle breaks, whatever. Make em short, set a timer, keep it consistent. Stop completely if they’re getting overwhelmed or stressed and be prepared to finish another day. They may complain and flop around a lot the first few times. Stay tooth grindingly positive and keep at it, it WILL get better. If you mess up, start again. It’s ok. It’s never too late.
I’m an adult with ADHD who finds cleaning their room a STRUGGLE, so I APPRECIATE THE HELL OUT OF THIS
Why are we never taught?
Why are we expected to just know?
And, for God’s own sake, why were we never exposed to the idea that being good at something often happens After being bad at something and doing it imperfectly anyway?
Seriously.
Friendly reminder that LGBTQ+, Queer, and LGBT+ are the preferred terms for the community (x).
Friendly reminder that Queer is approved by 72.9% of the people, and the groups who don’t prefer it’s use as an umbrella term are straight people, exclusionists, transmeds, truscums, sex-negative people, and sex work critical people (x).
Friendly reminder that aros and aces are excluded only 9.2% / 8.1% of the time respectively while being included 78.9% / 81.2% of the time (x)
Friendly reminder that exclusionists are in the minority and aro/ace people are included in the LGBTQ+ community by the people within the community.
Also, i checked out the survey the second claim sources a while back: this is not OP choosing the words truscum, exclusionist, etc. These are labels that the survey gave people the option to self-identify as. It’s self-proclaimed exclusionists who dont like the word queer, not random accusations
yeah that’s super important.
This one gets reblogged on main. The reclassification of ‘queer’ as an inexcusable slur is a recent development which stems in part from exclusionist rhetoric. We reclaimed it decades ago. Learn our history. You are not immune to TERF propaganda, but you can absolutely choose to educate yourself to spite it.
Be kind. 💜
I’m just uploading this for all the atheists who think it’s a travesty that Jesus is sometimes portrayed as white instead of His native middle eastern, so I’ve compiled some pictures for y’all to go after next, since this crusade of ethnic realisim is so dear to you:
Gotta say I honestly think it’s really beautiful how Christ’s depictions change across cultures to match the people.
As both an art nerd and religion nerd I have something to say about ethnic depictions of Jesus.
First off, all religious art is symbolic. If you understand what symbols are being used and why then you can instantly identify what kind of God you’re looking at. Christianity is no different, but it does have an interesting twist.
Namely, Jesus is always depicted in a way that the viewer is meant to relate to. Some of the earliest depictions are from when Christianity was still considered a sect of Judaism. In those images we see Christ as a clean shaven, young shepherd figure, reminiscent of King David. Visually calling on a cultural hero like that was no mistake.
Then, as Christianity spreads outward we see the modern image of Christ form. Greeks and Romans often depicted their gods (at least the male ones) with impossibly fit bodies and thick “philosopher style” beards. Images of Christ begin to lean towards this style as he beefs up some and grows a beard.
Here is where it gets interesting to me: they only go halfway into the Greek god style. Jesus is fit, but not in an “I live at the gym and only eat pure protein” way, more of an “everyday Joe” sort of way. He has a beard, but not the long, wild, Zeus beard. Just the modest, “guy from down the street” beard.
This halfway God imagery was deliberate and calculated. The message those early Christian artists (and, by extension, modern ones) were trying to say was this: This is God, and he’s like you.
That’s the whole point of Christianity, isn’t it? That God’s a little like you and you’re a little like God.
So any artists depicting Christ is going to try and find some way to make him visually related to the intended audience. You’re gonna have white Jesus, black Jesus, Mexican Jesus, Chinese Jesus, freaking biker Jesus. And that’s the point.
Demanding an “historically accurate” picture of Jesus is like going to a luxury car dealership and asking which one can haul the most hay. That’s not the point of the thing. Historically accurate Jesus is a crap shoot anyways. Nobody is ever going to get exactly what he looked like, and even if they could, what would we do with it? What? I’m gonna carry around a picture of some middle eastern guy so if I see that guy walking down the street, I know he’s Jesus? Ridiculous.
But a picture that communicates that God is no foriegner to you? That’s something we can work with.

I’m just gonna say it…
Professors should not be allowed to ban laptops in class. Professors should not be allowed to ban recorders in class. Professors should not be able to ban students from taking pictures of the whiteboard at the end of lectures. Professors should not be allowed to ban ANYTHING that will make the class more accessible for ALL students. I don’t care what the excuse is.
“They might not even be taking notes on their laptop, they’re probably playing games!” So that’s on the student and they’ll have to live with those grades. They’re paying thousands of dollars to be there, if they want to fuck off and waste their money that’s on them.
“I’m uncomfortable with my lectures being recorded!” What EXACTLY are you saying in your lectures that makes you worried about being recorded, hmm?
“I just don’t like the idea of being on camera/recorded at work. How would YOU feel being recorded at work?” Buddy, I work in retail. I’m always being watched. Suck it the fuck up.
And before anyone says “but you can just bypass this by getting permission from accessibility services!” 1. Not all students with disabilities have up-to-date diagnosis to qualify, 2. Not all students with disabilities have had it confirmed by a professional yet and won’t be able to access those services, 3. Not all students who need these accommodations even have a disability! Some people just learn differently and lecture-style learning actually doesn’t work for a lot of people! and 4. This often puts a student on the spot to all their classmates and can make them feel very uncomfortable.
Students should not have to jump through hoops to get an education that they’re paying for. That’s not accessibility.
