Romantic Imagine: Them as "Friends" Scenes

He knew in his heart that he had to let you leave, it wouldn't have been right to make you stay. You were so excited about taking the job in Brazil to the point where Leo lied, well half lied, about his excitement for you. He was genuinely so excited for you because you deserved it. You worked so hard and put everything you had to make it this far, he couldn't get in the way of that. Who was he to tell you not to go? So, he lied about wanting you to go.
The goodbye hurt his soul, he couldn't do long distance for as long as you had to be there. It would hurt him in a way he couldn't recover from and he knew how much it would hurt you to be away. The both of you knew it wasn't a goodbye forever and that you'd be back, but for now, you had to go your own ways.
Leo sulked into the lair, his mask was wet from crying, his cheeks swelled. His eyes were red and his chest ached. Splinter was sitting in his arm chair watching as his eldest walked into the living room. No words were exchanged as Leo sat on the couch.
"Hey dude, you left your phone." Mikey's voice rang out from behind the couch, the phone being handed over Leo's shoulder. "Some weird number called, left a voicemail."
"Thanks." Leo muttered, mindlessly taking the phone from Mikey before opening the voicemail box on his phone.
"Leo?" Your voice rang out.
"Is that-" Mikey started but Leo cut him off.
"SHUSH!" Leo yelled, shooing at him with his hand.
"It's me, I just got on the plane. Listen, I'm so sorry that I had to leave you all...snotty and crying."
"I just..I know you made me promise not to think about it but, I can't help but to think about it."
"What's going on?" Donnie asked, walking in the room.
"Love mail." Mikey whispered.
"Leo, they only been gone an hour! Whatta playa!" Raph exclaimed, coming up behind Donnie.
"WILL YOU GUYS PLEASE SHUT UP!?"
Leo took the phone off speaker and put it up to his ear, walking over to the other side of the room.
"There's so many things I should've said to you, I love you just isn't enough. And, I just keep thinking about last night before I left how you asked me to marry you..I secretly hoped you would've ask me today...I would've said yes. I still would say yes..."
Leo's eyes were welled up with tears. He did ask you to marry him last night. He told you it didn't matter how long it took, where you were at in the world, that if you said yes, he'd make it happen. You didn't know what to say to him, you only replied that you loved him. It wasn't that you didn't want to say yes but you were scared to say yes.
The job you took in Brazil was going to take a long time and you didn't know if you could wait that long. You felt that it wasn't fair to Leo to marry him and then leave, or be engaged and make him wait to marry you. You felt that if you married him, you shouldn't be apart.
"Dude...that's so sad!" Mikey cried out, laying his head on Leo's shoulder.
"Will you stop being a nitwit?" Raph whisper yelled, flicking Mikey's head.
"Oh, what am I doing? I gotta get off the plane. Ma'am! Miss! Excuse me! I gotta get off this plane!" Your voice rang out through the phone.
"Oh shell..." Leo muttered, his throat suddenly becoming dry.
"LET Y/N OFF THE PLANE!" Mikey and Donnie yelled.
"Sit down, please." "You don't understand! I gotta get off-" The voicemail stopped.
Leo began furiously tapping on the phone screen. "No! No no!" He began to panic, his chest was tightening, his breathing became heavier. "This can't..No!"
"Oh man..Sorry, Leo." Raph mumbled, rubbing his brother's shoulder.
"Did-Did Y/N get off the plane!?" Leo grabbed Donnie's shoulders. "You have to try and find-"
Leo let go of Donnie and spun around. You stood there with your carry on, your hair a mess and your eyes red from crying. You knew you looked a mess but Leo thought you looked beautiful.
"I..Y/N.." Leo breathed out, running to you and scooping you up in a hug.
You hugged him like you were never going to see him again. You briefly pulled away from his shoulder and kissed him hard on the lips.
"Ask me.." You whispered against his lips. "Ask me again.."
Leo grinned at you, tears in his eyes. "Will you marry me?"
"Yes..Yes!" You exclaimed.
Never in your life had you been so excited to get off an airplane.
You were the apple of his eye, you had him wrapped around your finger, and he loved to be your man. Oh you're cold? He's got a blanket and hot packs ready to go. You're hungry? He'll cook you anything you ask or order it if he has to. Raph doesn't care who's around, you ask for it, you get it.
Casey relentlessly teased him for being so whipped for you. Raph didn't appear phased by it as he gave it right back to him whenever he saw Casey being whipped for April. You, however, were particularly upset by a specific comment Casey made during a double date you had with him and April.
The four of you were hanging out at Casey and April's playing cards. You made a comment about feeling thristy and when you went to get up, Raph shooed you back down and told you he was going to get it for you. He even brought you back a snack with your drink. That's when Casey made the comment of you being high maintenance.
"Babe! What're you doin with that ladder?" Raph called to you as he walked into your apartment from your fire escape.
"Fixing my ceiling fan." You replied, setting up the ladder.
"Na huh, back up. I'll fix it." Raph told you, grabbing your waist and gently pulling you back.
"-No buts. Sit yer pretty self down, ol'Raph's got it."
You huffed and sat down on the couch. You crossed your arms and watched him fix the fan, an annoyed look on your face.
"I can fix it, you know." You grumbled, your eyes narrowed in annoyance.
"Yeah but I like fixin' stuff for ya, and ya look cute watchin' me." He replied, sending a wink your way. "All done!"
Raph climbed off the ladder and plopped down next to you, throwing an arm around you. "What's wrong, babe?"
"Nah, c'mon, tell me." He said, gently poking your shoulder.
You huffed and turned to face him. "It's..Casey."
"Why? What'd'he do?" Raph tensed up. "I'll kick'em in the head."
"No-I-" you sighed, "-do you think I'm high maintenance?"
Raph slowly blinked at you. "Well.."
"But your face says it all! Oh you are so in for it!" You got up and walked to the kitchen.
Raph rolled his eyes and followed you to the kitchen. "C'mon babe, I don't think that."
It was true, he really didn't think that about you. Even if it was true that you were high maintenance, he wouldn't care. It brought him a lot of pride to just do small things for you like bring you a drink or a blanket, or even hold a door open for you. He loved doing boyfriend things cause it shows he was your man and your man alone.
You didn't like to ask Raph for help because you were independent and preferred it that way. It was an adjustment for you to just have someone there to do things for you without you having to ask or beg for them to do. Raph just did them, no hesitation or argument. Even if he was mad at you, if you asked for a drink he'd bring you a drink.
"Admit it Raph, you think that I'm too much for you to handle and that's why Casey said that." You told him, angrily grabbing a cup that was in the sink and aggressively washing it.
"Y/N, Casey's a bonehead, you know that. Besides, even if it were true, who cares?"
"Babe, you seen the way Casey is with April, there ain't no way he thinks that. Cause if he does then he needs to look in the mirror."
"He probably thinks I use you and and-"
-Babe. Listen," he gently grabbed the cup from your hand and set it in the sink, "ya need to slow down. Look, you're not easy goin' but you're passionate and that's good. And when ya get upset about the little things, I think I'm pretty good about makin you feel better about that, and that's good, too." Raph gently put his hands on your shoulders. "So, they can say that you're high maintenance but it's okay cause I like..maintaining you."
Raph's hands gently massaged your shoulders. He felt you relax.
"Do you promise?" You asked.
Raph gave you a pointed look. "I don't kill spiders for just anybody, no matter how small." He kissed your forehead.
It was true, he didn't kill spiders for just anyone.
Lately things had been really good between you and Donnie. You had been together awhile and had a great routine and rhythm between you. You trusted him with your life and he trusted you with his. You were both deeply in love with each other to the point where it made your heart hurt.
Donnie knew that he didn't want to spend his life with anyone else. No one understood him quite like you did. His quirks, when he's getting upset, all that you knew like the back of your hand. You listened to him rant and carry on about his experiments and inventions, even if you had no clue what he was saying. He loved you more than anyone in the world.
It was late at night, everyone was in bed, except for Donnie. He was having a hard time falling asleep. April jokingly told him to marry you and he was second guessing on whether or not she was being fully serious. He knew that wasn't possible, to marry you.
"Don? It's late." Your voice rang out.
He looked up from his microscope and gently smiled at you. "Sorry, I got caught up in analyzing the new mutegan strain."
You playfully rolled your eyes and walked into his lab. You were in your pajamas, you looked tired, but you were still beautiful to him. "Mind if I join?"
Donnie wordlessly patted his lap. "I'm almost done."
You walked over and sat on his lap, putting your arm around him. "What's going on with you?
"You feel very tense in your shoulders and you have that weird look in your eye."
"Pfft, my eyes never get weird looks."
You raised an eyebrow. "Mm, but they do."
He rolled his eyes. "I promise, I'm fine."
"But your eyes say different, Donnie. C'mon, spill, what is it?"
He sighed. "There's no hiding from you, is there?"
"No, no there is not." You gently played with his bandana tails.
"It's not anything bad, I promise. I just...have been thinking a lot about things lately."
"Just...you know, stuff."
"You're avoiding my question." You pointed out.
Donnie sighed. He knew you wouldn't judge him for thinking a lot about what April said, he just didn't want to upset you. You and him never talked about marriage or anything on that matter. He figured if it's what you wanted that you'd bring it up. Now he was second guessing his theory and wishing that he would've popped the question sooner.
Your relationship with Donnie was special and very important to you. He cared for you unlike anyone else and loved you whole-heartedly for you. He's never tried to change you or anything about you. He always saw you and he was your safe space. He was the most important thing in the world to you.
"April and I were looking through old photo albums the other day..and well, we came across her wedding album." He explained, nervously tapping the table. "It was beautiful, you would've loved it. Then we got to talking about Casey's proposal to her and...."
Donnie sighed. "April asked, and she was joking but, she asked when I was going to..propose..to you."
You hummed and gently rubbed his shoulders. "Is marriage something you want?"
"Well, I guess I never thought about it. I mean, I just know you and I are going to be a forever thing so...do we really need a piece of paper?" You thought aloud.
"I don't believe so, but, I'm a turtle and you're a human, so...we can have any future you want."
You smiled at him and gently kissed his beak. "I think that I just want you."
He smiled back at you. "I think I can live with that."
"Good cause you're stuck with me...starting now." You stated, a sly grin on your face.
Marriage or no marriage, you were all he wanted for all his life.
The movies didn't do how he felt for you justice. He was infactuated with you the moment that he first laid eyes on you. He found you etheral, like you were made of pure gold. He loved everyone and had a deep love for his family, but his love for you went deeper than that. You were his number one person in the entire world.
Mikey never thought a human could love him and then you came along. Sure April and Casey had love for him, Angel too, maybe even Karai, but not in the same way. You could make him laugh, cheer him up, make him cry, and make him feel seen unlike anyone else. You treated him as an equal and always made sure to make him feel special.
The mission had gone totally wrong and he felt like it was all his fault. No one made him feel that way but he just felt like it was. He had messed up, again, and now they lost yet another chance at defeating the Kraang.
"Mikester? You okay?" Your voice rang out in his bedroom doorway. "Raph says you didn't even come out for pizza."
"Not hungry, angel." Mikey muttered, burying his face in his pillow.
"My Mikey isn't hungry? Oh boy. What happened?" You asked, walking in and sitting on his bed.
"I messed up again! It was right there and then it wasn't."
"The weird crystal thingy Donnie's been on about for weeks! It was there one minute and gone the next."
"Did they get to it before you?"
"I don't know.." He rolled over and moved so he could comfortably lay his head on your lap.
You cooed. "You did all you could, Mikey."
"But it's always me, I always screw everything up. Just ask, they'll tell you."
"Did they say you screwed it up?"
"Well...no." He looked at you and pouted. "But they always tell me I'm too out there and it messes things up."
"You mean on other missions?"
"And not on missions! Face it angel, I'm just a screwed up weirdo!" He dramatically exclaimed, burying his face in your thighs.
You knew sometimes his brothers could be rather harsh on him, Raph especially. He was the younger brother and therefore the brunt of a lot of name calling and teasing. You knew and Mikey knew they meant nothing by it, he even gave it back to them. At time like right now, it was all Mikey could seem to think about.
When Mikey was down, all he could think about was how everyone would say he's weird, or too airheaded, or annoying. He couldn't help but think if he was more like Leo, Raph even, that things would be going smoother. He even wished sometimes he wasn't on the team at all when he screwed something up.
"A weirdo you say? Hm, I always knew that there was something that had me drawn to you."
Mikey slowly rose up from your thighs. "Huh?"
You chuckled. "Mikey, you are seriously the weirdest guy I know! Why do you think we get along so well?"
"Angel, this is the worst pep talk ever." He told you, fully sitting up on the bed.
You sighed. "Mikey, I mean that you being weird or not like everyone else is what has me so drawn to you."
"Even if I eat doritos in bed while watching Forrest Gump and I'm crying and getting cheese in my eyes?"
"Yes, even when you have dorito dust in your eyes."
"What about when I burp the alphabet?"
"Even when you burp the alphabet."
"Wooaahh now that's commitment dude!"
You laughed. "All of your weird things you do doesn't make me love you any less."
Mikey's face suddenly grew serious. "I just..sometimes I'm afraid you'll get tired of me and leave cause all I do is goof off."
"But you're not always goofing off. I've seen you in a fight, protecting me by the way. There's more to you than just your goofiness. You're so kind, you're so generous, and you're so wonderfully weird. Every day with you is an adventure and I can't believe how lucky I am."
Mikey smiled at you. "I love you, angel, like a whole lot." He leaned forward and captured your lips with his, he looked serious as he pulled away. "I mean it."
"I know, every day it's implied." You told him, a smile on your face.
"Is there any pizza left?" He asked, a pleading look in his eyes.
"You seriously think I'd come in here to pull you outta bed if there wasn't?"
"You right, you right. It's pizza time!" He jumped up and scooped you up, running out of his room.
"Ah, Mikey! Put me down!"
It was true. Mikey showed you every single day just how much he loved you.
