⏾ you feel it everyday, the eyes on your back, following you until you fall asleep
⏾ another bottle of perfume is missing, another tube of chapstick you swore you just bought
⏾ your favorite hoodie now smells like beer and cigarettes...and a weird musk you can't quite place
⏾ it's the fourth date that ghosted you, the fourth time they disappeared without a trace
⏾ dean holds you close as you weep in his arms, whispering reassurances that he would protect you from whatever kept haunting your life
⏾ he swears he'll stop, but when you look so pretty when you're fast asleep, how could he ever stop himself? it wasn't his fault you forgot to lock your window
"You'll be fine, sweetheart. You're alright." He whispers, pressing his lips to your temple. "Just a little more and you'll be all mine."
⟡ Sam Winchester hates you. Like, really hates you, ever since you were kids. He hates your pretty face, your teasing eyes, and your sweet lips that Dean got to taste a long time ago. he hates you so much that he can't stop thinking about you.
Dean was on crack. Sam was fully convinced that Dean had to have been snorting, or sniffing, fucking eating crack with how little he'd planned for this hunt. You'd found where your ghost died, yay. Now fucking what?
"We really have to wrap this up, Dean. You know I have to be back by-"
"Yeah, by Monday, I know." Dean scoffed, turning around to face his brother. The bridge creaked and groaned underneath your combined weight, fog rolling in and sending shivers up your spine.
"You're really serious about this, huh?"
Sam looked at his brother properly, chest constricting with every condescending word spilling from Dean's lips. He ran away for a reason, Dean knew that well enough. He just didn't care.
"What's it for anyways?" You asked, back turned to him as you looked past the railing into the dark waters below.
"It's an interview."
Dean scoffed.
"What, a job interview? Skip it."
You glanced back, noticing a certain look Sam got when he was getting angry and Dean was pushing him farther.
"No, Dean. A law school interview. Literally everything I want on a fucking platter."
"Good for you, Sammy-"
"God, you're really buying into that, huh?" Dean interrupted with boisterous laughter, ignoring the two pairs of eyes now glaring at him. Too far. He was hell bent on taking this too far and Sam wasn't going to keep taking it.
"Buying into what? Having a normal life? Not being fucking terrified?"
"Yeah! You may have abandoned us but you can't deny the truth!"
Sam seemed almost appalled.
"What truth? That I'm one of you?"
"Samuel." Your voice snapped them both out of it, warning the two of them. Don't take it too far. Don't do shit you'll regret.
The ugly, vile, feeling started curdling; spilling out into harsh words Sam could never take back but god did it feel good to say it. Whatever they did, whatever John insisted on, even if they found what killed their mother, Mary was gone. She was dead and burned to ashes and nothing anyone could do would change that.
He wanted Dean to snap.
"Don't talk about her like that, you hear me?" Dean hissed, his hands like a vice on Sam's collar. The younger Winchester only scoffed, shoving Dean's hands away.
Another hand hit him hard upside the head.
"You happy now? Got the fight you wanted?" You growled, turning to Dean with a pointing finger. "You fix your act. Both of you grow the fuck up! Or do I need to remind you that we're on a case for your missing father?"
“Hey uh-”
“What?!”
The familiar growl of the Impala rang through the night. You glanced at Dean. Dean glanced at the keys in his hand.
Shit.
⟡
"Dean's an asshole you know that." You muttered, knee bouncing up and down as Sam looked through his father's notes.
So, to recap. Baby came alive, you and Dean jumped into freezing cold waters, tracked yourselves through mud, and now stand in the middle of John's dingy motel room. All the walls were full of notes and newspaper clippings a hundred strong. It was tame enough for a week's worth of research, but it wasn't enough. And people say being a hunter was hard.
A sigh left your lips.
"You can't let him get to you, Sam. This is hard enough on him."
"I know, okay!"
You huffed, looking up at the younger boy. He was always like this, quick to shut people down. Quicker when "people" was you. Your eyes drifted downward, teeth tearing through the skin of your lip. It was cold, and you could still smell the faint stench of mud even after a shower.
"He needs you."
"Right. 'Cause you were always the expert on that, weren't you?" Sam's gaze met yours, harsh and full of disdain.
"Samuel." You began, expression hardening. "Don't say that shit to me. You don't get to say that, not after everything."
"You mean after siding with Dean? Letting him think I abandoned him all these years? Gee, thanks plenty!"
"You think I had a choice?!"
Sam flinched, stepping backward as if the tears forming in your eyes were weapons.
"You think I had anything for me outside of Dean? You left and we watched you leave because you could! I have nothing!" You cried out, shoving Sam backwards. "My parents are dead! And the first thing your father ever did was make me raise you, and your jackass brother!"
......
He watched your figure collapse back on the bed, feet dragging on the floor like it carried the weight of the world. For once, he couldn't say anything.
"I...."
"Just leave it, Sam."
Moments passed in a vacuum, years slipping away before Dean stepped out in fresh clothes.
⟡ Sam Winchester hates you. Like, really hates you, ever since you were kids. He hates your pretty face, your teasing eyes, and your sweet lips that Dean got to taste a long time ago.
he hates you so much that he can't stop thinking about you.
warnings: a little tension, lore accurate s1 Sam, he's a jerk basically, reader is a big tease and a lot like Dean
Barely 24 hours into the trip and Sam was about halfway on the road to insane. The outdated cassette tapes, bumpy roads, and Dean's constant blabbering would be enough to drive anyone crazy. Not to mention, you were always spurring him on; always Dean's little fan, his "groupie" as John graciously grumbled a number of years ago.
Sam was beginning to dread that he was turning into his own father. And god knows he was about to punch his brother if he heard one more mention of-
"How could you not like AC/DC, what are you, clinically insane?"
"Says the man who despises Blood on the Dance Floor!"
"It's not his best album, so what? Shoot me-"
"Can you guys just stop!" Sam hissed, slamming his book shut.
The car screeched to a halt, the rhythm of your argument with Dean freezing along with it. Dean couldn't help but stare at his own brother. Sam didn't look back, instead gesturing to a faint figure on the horizon. God, he could feel your eyes on him, the questioning gaze, the judgement. It sat as heavy on his shoulders as Dean's brazen ogling.
"That's a gas station, probably...we should stop."
"Geez, grumpyhead."
Sam wanted to slam his head against the dashboard.
⟡
"Here, get something inside ya'."
Sam perked up at your voice, brows immediately furrowing when a granola bar entered his line of sight. His eyes met yours for a moment, taking in the way it mirrored his own. The teasing grin on your lips branded into his vision before he could stop himself from feeling that same twist of displeasure in his chest.
"M'not hungry."
Your smile grew bigger. If you didn't know any better you would've let it go, threw the bar in the backseat to eat yourself. Except you knew Sam, a bit too well in his opinion.
"You aren't fooling me, Samuel. You really wanna waste a good dollar?" The cartoon raisin on the packaging taunted the Winchester, waving in his face like a red flag to an already agitated bull.
He reached out to grab the bar. You held it right out of reach.
"But seriously, I have to know; what the hell is your deal with me?"
Sam clenched his jaw, sighing as he looked around for Dean so they could finally hit the road. But alas, no one was there to rescue him today.
"I don't have a deal."
"Bullshit." You scoffed, stepping back when Sam rose to his full height. "You've hated me ever since junior year, Sammy. C'mon, tell me."
He wished he could tell you. Wished he could spill the secret brewing in the back of his mind for years on end. You were the deal, he wanted to say. You and your enmeshment with his older brother, the way you looked at him, the way you talked to him, the way Sam could only get you to look at him if it meant annoying you or getting under your skin.
"Can you stop with that?" He grumbled instead. "Sammy is a- a fat 12-year-old. It's Sam."
He reached for the snack again. You pulled away, again.
"Just-"
He pushed forward, grabbing your arm, feeling it slip away. It kept adding oil to the flames he was trying to smother. Your giggling didn't help, every chime that reached his ears made him want to shut you up even more. Was this a fucking game to you?
"Come on, jerkface just tell me-"
THUD
Sam stared down at you, you stared up at him. His large hands held your wrists like handcuffs, your back pressing uncomfortably against the handle of the backseat door.
He took everything in, your parted lips, the shocked eyes, the brows furrowed in something caught between confusion and amusement.
"Yo! Breakfast is here!"
Sam snatched the granola bar from your hands and slammed the front door shut behind him.
⟡ Sam Winchester hates you. Like, really hates you, ever since you were kids. He hates your pretty face, your teasing eyes, and your sweet lips that Dean got to taste a long time ago.
he hates you so much that he can't stop thinking about you.
He never thought much about it, about you. How could he, really? You were the shadow haunting the end of his dreams, the only other constant in his childhood. Dean was your tail and you were his; emotionally bound to both him and Sam the moment your parents left you to John.
He tried not to think about it; the way he saw you and his brother "learning to kiss" in the backseat of John's car. He tried to ignore the twisting, nauseous feeling consuming his mind every time he saw you afterwards.
Sam Winchester convinced himself that he hated you.
⟡
"Dad's on a hunting trip...and he hasn't come back in a few days."
Dean's words were enough to knock Sam off trajectory. Off Stanford, off law, off everything he ran away for.
"Now, listen, I know you aren't best buds but we need her help. So uh, play nice, yeah?" Dean grunted, hauling his baby brother's bags to his beloved car. He might have not been the best student, but Dean wasn't stupid. The lingering glances, the quip responses, being smart with you...he knew better than to let two dogs bark and snap at each other while John was gone.
"I don't know what you're talking about, Dean. She's the one that's always on my ass-"
"Still hating on me, Sammy?"
Your voice made the younger Winchester freeze, his eyes trailing over you. You and your pretty smirk and that fucking nickname he grew to despise with how much it replayed in his mind.
"Don't start." Sam huffed, pushing himself to ignore you and that sickly perfume. "I thought you'd be off Dean's tail by now."
Your gaze turned sharp and that familiar pang of satisfaction hit Sam in the gut. That. He liked that, wanted that even; don't ever look away.
But you did.
"Dean your brother grew up to be a dick." He could hear you grumble from the backseat. Dean only smirked.
