Can BB sulk? What is he like when he’s sulking or being playful?
of course BB sulks! but because of his personality and his upbringing, he doesnt really know how to express that hes upset and wants attention. xD
so him sulking is just him being a lot quieter than usual and hoping that someone notices.
hes not visibly mad tho, like he wont slam doors or anything, but he just becomes noticeably less cooperative with conversation. i can imagine him answering with unnecessarily short responses or becoming PAINFULLY more formal.💀
BUT if hes sulking because MC said something that actually hurt his feelings, he might just withdraw because he doesnt know whether hes allowed to be upset. hed think:
"she said something that upset me. i should determine whether the reaction is justified."
and then spend his entire day analyzing the situation. eventually hed just be straightforward and tell her directly:
"i did not appreciate what you said."
BB isnt naturally playful, so its rarer to see him like that. his version of being playful is basically discovering something that gets a reaction out of MC and then doing it again. xD
i can imagine him stealing something from MC and waiting for her to notice while hes dying of laughter under his helmet (its not even funny dude😭) or mimicking something she says, or even giving her absurdly literal answers just to annoy her.
BB has this tendency to say something completely ridiculous with the exact same serious expression he uses for everything else. thats probably why hes lowkey funny asf. xD
ive never been able to take "climb him like a tree" as a sexual innuendo seriously because i picture climbing a tree in my mind and then i picture a tall man in my mind and when i put those two things together im not seeing anything sexual. im seeing like. circus tricks.
Does Lane secretly realize how desperate and awkward his attempts to brush everything off as a joke actually look, or does he genuinely believe he’s pulling it off smoothly? And how does BB perceive all of this from the outside — does he just view Lane as an insecure, pathetic kid, or is Lane actually an annoying obstacle to him?
Lane knows, but its situational. xD it really depends on how emotionally exposed he feels.
bc hes not genuinely convinced hes some effortlessly smooth ladies' man. he has moments where hes aware that he sounds awkward and ridiculous, especially when he makes a poor taste joke or flirts with MC and it clearly doesnt land.
but hes also naturally cocky. hes used to getting reactions from people and hes learned that if he says something with enough confidence, people will often play along. so most of the time his logic is basically:
i said it like a joke. therefore, it was a joke.
she laughed. therefore, it worked.
she didnt laugh. whatever, she has no sense of humor.
he doesnt necessarily interpret MCs discomfort correctly because his brain is filtering everything through the persona hes trying to maintain.
but when MC makes him genuinely feel like hes being an asshole, it hits. he becomes aware of how he came across, feels embarrassed and often turns that embarrassment into aggression bc he never wanna admit that he cares.
but if he didnt care about MC, hed move on.
if he cares, he keeps finding reasons to come back and thats exactly what he does.
so basically Lane cannot tolerate being visibly rejected but he also cannot tolerate withdrawing.
"im going to make you responsible for proving that i dont give a shit about you."
BB meanwhile sees Lane as an irritant more than anything else.
hes been around men who perform masculinity for other men his entire life, so Lane's act isnt particularly mysterious to him.
tho he doesnt think Lane is pathetic in a cruel way (not initially at least). its more like hes watching a guy repeatedly make the same mistake and thinking:
"Fostman doesnt know what hes doing."
BB can recognize that Lane's behavior comes from insecurity. he might even have a certain amount of sympathy for him, but sympathy doesnt make Lane any less irritating, especially when Lane starts interfering with MC.
BB wouldnt particularly call Lane out face to face tho, simply because hes not the type to do that. so their dynamic is more like:
"i know youre full of shit. you know im aware youre full of shit. we dont have to discuss it."

Does BB consider himself a good person? He strikes me as someone who doesn't really think in terms of "good" or "bad," but rather follows his own moral code—which doesn't necessarily make him any less dangerous. Am I reading him correctly? 👀

this man doesnt wake up every day thinking "im a good man" nor does he spiral into "im evil."
instead, his internal question is more like: "did i fulfill my duty?"
like a soldier, he still judges himself by conduct, not by identity, because he learned to separate who he is from what he has to do. a mission can be ugly while still being considered necessary right?😏
but yeah it can be dangerous because BB has a very rigid moral code, and that code isnt society's moral code.
if protecting someone requires violence? hell use violence.
if lying keeps someone alive? hell lie.
if breaking the law is the only way to accomplish what he believes is the right objective? the law isnt automatically sacred to him.
he DOESNT lack morality tho. its just that once hes convinced something is morally justified, he becomes extremely difficult to stop.
hed also be uncomfortable if someone says he is a good man because he genuinely doesnt believe "good" is a stable label a person earns forever.
for him its: people make decisions → those decisions have consequences → you live with them.
and he doesnt need to believe hes righteous either. he only needs to believe that he can justify his actions to himself according to the standards hes chosen.
thats why hed be capable of both remarkable compassion and frightening ruthlessness.

i was training a young person at work, and she referred to sexual assault as "SA" out loud, and i immediately was like, "no, it's sexual assault, call it what it is," bc idgaf if the algorithm overlords have taught y'all that you should fear direct language, how tf do any of you expect to ever address real issues with any amount of seriousness if you can't even say the words? imagine an advocate looking a sexual assault survivor in the eyes and asking "did he grape you?" it's absolutely fucking absurd, but these young interns and new hires are coming into an environment where we deal with survivors of all different kinds of abuse, and they're coming with the mindset that the words are as bad as the actions, and that makes them shitty at the job and look juvenile af
i HATE self-censorship for a lot of reasons, but being in crisis work makes it even more frustrating. who are you censoring for? like i am being so fr, WHO are you censoring for? have you even thought it through? people who have been raped know that they have been raped. if someone attempts suicide or is grieving someone who did, saying "sewer slide" isn't going to protect them from any of the feelings. a murder victim's family isn't going to feel better bc you said "unalived" instead of murdered. if anything, it's just extremely invalidating and othering. it's saying "what happened to you is so bad that i won't even say the word," which is NOT trauma-informed care. you are not protecting survivors/victims when you self-censor. the ONLY things you protect when you self-censor are the puritanical ideologies that are being encouraged by rich fascists who want your money and obedience
