âFirst snow. First kill of the hunt.â
Thank you for 100k Downloads of my games! Itâs crazy that the last time I made one of these, I was at 20k downloadsâŚIâm extremely grateful to be able to make games that so many have played and enjoyed. I may not be able to respond to everyoneâs comments on my itchio page and across my socials, but I do try to read all of them and Iâm eternally grateful for any support.
I know Iâve been MIA for a while nowâŚitâs been a bit of a chaotic time. But- I finally have some stability and will be working on Chilling Devotion and other art projects in earnest! Iâll be having lots of content and updates over on my patreon for those who are interested. And Iâm still planning on making the base game/ect as free as possible. I just wanted a moreâŚcontrolled place to post spicier stuff haha.
Again, thanks and Iâll be back with more as soon as possible~

What if we yelled âAt ease!â really loud while BB was sleeping? đ
LMFAO xD
BB would wake up violently, not to obey the command but because hed suddenly be on full alert. depending on how deeply he was asleep he might instinctively reach for where a weapon would be or immediately orient himself toward the source of the voice.đ
then once he realizes its you, hed probably be a little irritated bc you just triggered a massive adrenaline dump and he wont be able to fall asleep. xD
BBD â "the door" theory (spoilers for BBD shift#3)
[an analysis of the characters (mostly Lane's) stances and vision, and the chance of possible death of some characters of the game]
â yes, i'm aware that i sound insane (and probably stupid), but in my head, it just makes a lot of sense idk... also, i studied literature and typography for a while, so this might just be me reading too much into things
The movie Lane references in the bathroom scene, after you pic "let him wrap his arm around you":
a guy and a girl inside a bathroom, then, at some point, he stands up, goes to lock the door, and then stabs her to death;
Lane specifically says "with a knife" and that reminded me of the only other knife we've seen in game â the one inside MC's kitchen drawer; which btw, is the only object in there which text is shown in red
The reason as why the guy did it
Lane follows to describe how the guy acted/thought;
Making it clear that he thinks it is insane to choose to kill the person you love instead of just letting that person go
â â â â â â â â â â â
Lane would never lock the door
After making it clear how he absolutely rebuked what the guy did, Lane goes on to say - multiple times - how he would never lock the door, he would never trap the MC, he would never force her to stay;
And saying that, if she wishes to go, she can, she's free to;
Not only would he never lock the door, he would've smashed it open if he was aware of the situation (which brings the next topic)
What he would actually do
Lane said he would've smashed the door
but what would he do about the guy? the answer: he would've killed him
when asked "why?", he said "that's just how i am" - he sees something wrong, he moves;
and when MC asks "what if you got hurt?", he simply answers "you wouldn't."
meaning that even if he got hurt in the process, it would be fine if that meant MC was safe and okay
(now's when the theory of the possibility of his death comes in)
Because Lane makes it very clear he would act even if it could end up with him in prison
To which MC says that he better not die while trying to protect her, because she doesn't his death on her conscience;
(this one is important because it might be related to the red biker, which i'm going to briefly explain why after finishing the next and last topic of the door theory)
His door was unlocked & "open"
on laneâs route #2, when mc goes to his apartment, he's not there to open the door for her - in fact, he's not seen or heard until the MC takes upon herself to go inside of his apartment to look for him;
because his door was and is unlocked, not only allowing mc to leave but also to come in
there's mentions of death/possibility of being death again
but, lastly, Lane says - again - that he left the door open for her
the correlation of the red biker and the line "I just don't want your death in my conscience" said by the MC
during the number calling, MC is 'offered' a tarot reading, where Jezabelle mentions that "MC's biggest problem isn't the living" and how "there's a shadow following the MC"
then next she pulls the devil's card - which we can associate to red biker
suggesting that he might already be dead and is just manifesting himself as "force" in MC's life
since it's followed by 3 other cards: the hanged man (werner); the fool (lane); the queen of swords (amelia);
mostly because, when Jezabelle starts naming the other 3 cards, MC asks "Who are these people?" instead of "What do those cards mean?" or something
â lmao it took me a while to realize the cards could be associated with the characters, and i think i only did it bc amelia's card fits her so well
Lane as a victim of mother-son incest, from the lens of a victim.
SPOILERS FOR SHIFT 3, and trigger warning for mentions of incestous abuse.
Lalys most qna question practically confirmed it for me, but I wanted to repost what I said in a post concerning Laneâs mothers behavior.
his mom is not only emotionally abusive, but their dynamic is also best catogorized as emotionally incestual. I know incest is a taboo
incest is described as a blur between and or the lack of boundries between the victim and the perpetrator. it is not always sexual, but emotional too. more commonly does it appear, when a perpetrator is already abusive towards their victim.
I say that Laneâs mom showcases this type of abuse because she has constantly overstepped his boundries, and had attempted to rip his autonomy from him. That being his piercings , who he is friends with and partners with , and his general way of presenting himself. signs of emotional incest include :
⢠child feeling as if they have to care for their abusers emotional needs, sometimes being at the expense of another family members relationship
⢠child seems emotionally mature for their age due to parentification
⢠abuser becomes jealous when the child has a romantic partner or close friend
⢠child struggles with emotional neglect despite how close the bond seems, affecting their performance in school and mental health.
for his mom she showcases boundary diffusion , jealousy & attempt of control , and emotional eneshment.
she expected him to agree with everything she asked for, and when he rebelled against it she was struck with guilt and panic at the idea of him becoming independent ( also giving him the â silent treatment â. )
I believe this relationship most formed after Laneâs father died , and she began projecting her emotional needs onto him.
her unhealthy dynamic with him could have been a factor in leading to him : abusing substances , having low self esteem , depression , and trouble in future relationships.
in addition , his mothers lack of emotional support unconciously may have led to him to seek out an older partner to find the care he lacked as a child. ( for example , bianca . but that is just a guess . )
do keep in mind this is an interpretation. I did want to actually acknowledge this in my very first post regarding his analysis but the topic of incest is sensitive for me and I would hate to be interpreting things wrongly. I apologize greatly if I have done so anyway.
Lane's mom definitely has traits that overlap with emotional incest/enmeshment in the sense that she has very poor emotional boundaries with Lane and struggles to accept him forming close relationships outside of her.
!!!!!!!!BUT i DONT intend it as a sexual dynamic!!!!!!!!!
How are you so good at writing male characters convincingly? In most VN's I've played, the male characters mostly feels like concepts rather than people. And as a woman, this is kinda where I'm stuck too while writing men.
While playing your game, I was very surprised at how good the male characters were written. I was wondering if you could give some tips about how you wrote them so real? Pretty please đđđ
thank you so so much omgđĽşđĽşđđ my writing has improved a lot since Shift 1 and 2 so im still learning but im very touched you think the characters are convincing!đđ
tbh im not the best at giving writing advice because i mostly write by instinct as i go but there is one thing ive noticed in the VN community! xD (and im targeting ABSOLUTELY NO ONE because i used to do this too when i first started the VN, just sharing some thoughtsđđĽ)
i think one of the biggest traps is writing male characters with the player in mind instead of with themselves in mind.
a lot of romance games naturally want the player to fall in love with the love interests (which is fair) so its tempting to sand off their rough edges. but then you start thinking things like "if he says this, players might hate him" or "if he does that hell become less attractive"
and little by little, the character starts making decisions based on what will keep the audience happy rather than what they would actually do.
i try REALLY hard not to do that. xD
when Shift 2 came out, i received a few negative reviews saying my characters were "unlikable" almost as if that was something i should fix. but i never set out to make them universally likable.đ bc real people are contradictory. they have biases, say stupid things, hurt others without meaning to etc...
but i think thats WHAT makes players become attached to them. because they feel like they have a life outside the player.
so my main advices would be:
- dont write a man whos trying to impress the player. write a man whos just trying to live his life. if he feels like a complete person first, players can decide for themselves whether they love him, hate him or both.
- a bit stupid but: write their logic. once you know what they believe about themselves and the world, you can almost predict how theyll react in any situation.
Iâm begging some fun facts about the characters in a relationship Laly
BB (Werner):
- would lowkey start obeying MC with pretty much anything she asks. if she tells him to wear something, he will. if she asks him to do something, he will.
- but if MC gets sick, hed act like a drill sergeant. (if shes pregnant tho i feel like hed be a mix of both, but mostly give in to all her demands.)
- after a few weeks hed end up sleeping on MC, burying his head in her neck.
- would probably make 999999 jokes per day. (only 2 are actually funny.)
- at one point, hed start worrying if he doesnt get his morning or goodnight kiss.
Lane:
- adores domestic moments more than actual dates. grocery shopping together or buying and assembling new furniture gets him weirdly excited every time.
- loves having his hair played with.
- would lowkey hate the idea of MC meeting his mom.
- would 100% melt every time MC reaches for his hand while theyre walking somewhere.
Amelia:
- would steal all of MCs clothes.
- has a dry sense of humor a bit similar to BBs. shed criticize MCs hair before fixing it herself.
- likes sitting in the same room doing different things. she doesnt need constant conversation to feel close.
- is the type to steal all the blankets while sleeping.
Ludwig:
- would probably get excited if a girl even remembers his name.
- his love language is sharing.
- in general, he gets incredibly shy whenever a girl compliments him.
- yes Lane mocks him for that.
- his body count is 1.
Serkan:
- has never truly been in love.
- but when he does fall in love, he falls hard. so much so that everyone around him would probably notice.
- is physically affectionate without even thinking about it.
- his smile is impossible to wipe off his face when he sees the girl he loves.

đđđđđ *the sound of crashed plates*
his dad taught him how to play Tekken, they used to play it together, but now it's only him and the material proof of that memory..................omg imma cryđđđđđđsht
im not familiar with Tekken, does it have save files or sth? like, "match with Player B (2002/02)"? god if it does it will be even sadder..........
In love branch, he is soooo mean that it could have make mc cry (mc has the patience of a saint fr like how she even stomach all that??? in my mind it feels like that 'sad creature gets thrown tomatoes' picture)
(notes: maybe that "invisible but important detail" is related to his dad??? but whereeee)
hi! you talked about Ludwig and now I canât help but wonder about him! I hope I can ask these questions without them being considered spoilers (sorry if thatâs the case, Iâm just so intrigued by him đĽš)
1. Does Ludwig share similar character traits with Lane (like his goofy ahh sense of humour/flirty character?) And does he share the same points of view as Lane concerning sexism, women?
2. Will MC have the opportunity to interact with Ludwig ?
HI POOKI AAA THANK YOU FOR THESE QUESTIONS!! đđ
1. Does Ludwig share similar character traits with Lane?
they absolutely share the same kind of humor and it gets even worse when theyre together. xD they talk without a filter, say the worst jokes imaginable and basically spend most of the time trash talking each other.
tho Ludwig kinda lacks Lane's bitterness in everyday discussions but he can absolutely encourage Lane's nonsense for entertainment. id say Ludwig isnt really a flirty guy since hes a bit more introverted.
Does he share the same points of view as Lane concerning sexism, women?
he doesnt really share Lane's worldview. of course he laughs at sexist jokes and casually says stupid shit sometimes but unlike Lane he doesnt have that same performative masculinity issue or bitterness toward women.
with Ludwig its more "this is funny because its chaotic" while with Lane its more "this reinforces my identity as a man."
2. Will MC have the opportunity to interact with Ludwig?
omggg LUDWIG MENTIONED đŁď¸đŁď¸đŁď¸ I already love him even though we havenât seen him yet XD
Even if Ludwig isnât a love interest, will he flirt with MC? Or will MC be able to flirt with him?
(no cause, like⌠Lane AND Ludwig??? AT THE SAME DAMN TIME????? đđđ)
INTERESTING QUESTIONS POOKI~
Ludwig knows Lane likes MC a lot because he talks about her all the time, so hed never flirt with MC out of respect for his best friend. xD
and since MC doesnt know Ludwig yet, she wouldnt really flirt with him either but there is an option to side with Ludwig in the little scene i wrote. đ
but dw Ludwig will show up again later in the story so depending on the route you will be able to have more interaction with him!đ
Lane AND Ludwig are SO gross tho. xD Ludwig is the type of guy who owns half naked anime girl figurines with huge boobs and has posters like that all over his room.
Has Laly ever confirmed that BB got his scar during his army years?
I donât think she has, but please correct me if Iâm wrong. If it has never been confirmed, I think there may be a stronger possibility that the scar happened much earlier.
Take all of this with a grain of salt because I could be completely wrong. Wall of text.
There are many details in BBâs way of speaking that make me think of this, but I canât include everything because that would spoil his whole route. Also, Tumblrâs stoopid image limit wonât let me add that many screenshots, so yâall have to play it and find those details yourselves eh.
One reason Iâm not fully convinced by my theory is that when MC asked BB what stayed with him the most, he said âmy face.â
Iâm not sure if he meant his face was what stayed with him most from the army, or from his whole life. So I still canât tell when he got his scar.
Laly said:
âI have no idea. xD People usually love characters with scars, but I donât qualify BBâs scars as âgood-lookingâ scars. Part of his face is heavily damaged, heâs missing a piece of his ear (đ)⌠bro looks like he got eaten alive by dogs fr. But like his boss said, that whole physical appearance thing shouldnât matter right? đâ
That description makes the injury sound severe and animal like. His face was heavily damaged, and he lost part of an ear. Laly also said that he squints a lot and canât wink. Lowk, maybe he just doesnât know how to wink, but it could also be connected to the facial injury.
This is why I think the bear story might be more important than it first seems.
BB mentioned training with his dad when he was 7, and he also mentioned running away when he saw a bear. Even though MC pointed out that they live in a city, BB still reacted strongly to the idea. That could just be fear, but it could also suggest that the bear incident was traumatic. If he was attacked by a bear as a child, it would explain both his scars and why bears still affect him.
It could also explain why his dad saw him as a âfailure.â
BB said that his family has different priorities from his. He also said that people care less about his first name and more about his last name because it carries weight. That makes me think his fatherâs side may come from a traditional military family, a highly religious family, or both. His family name may have status in Norway, while BB himself was expected to carry that reputation.
If he was injured during âtrainingâ with his dad, his dad may have viewed the incident as weakness instead of protecting him. BBâs scar could have become a visible reminder of what his family considered failure. That could be why he was pressured so much to live up to expectations afterwards.
Maybe his dad, brothers or both had important positions in the Norwegian military. If BBâs dad already saw him as a failure, he may not have wanted him in the Norwegian army. BB joining could have felt like proof that his dad failed to mould a âproperâ soldier. BB did mention that he was much skinnier back then too.
Could that be why he said Norway army did not want him?
âHey! Can you even lift a womanâs purse?â
The US Army may have been easier for him because nobody there knew his family name, his past or what happened to him. He could start over, even if he said it wasnât easy.
That could also be why he doesnât use his name much anymore. Maybe he doesnât feel connected to it because it brings back memories of his family, expectations and trauma. Moving somewhere else may have made him feel like the weight of that name was finally lifted.
Maybe thatâs also why he doesnât correct people about his nationality or tell people his stories. Heâs afraid that if he shares too much, people will recognize the details, connect the dots and figure out who he really is or where he comes from. Being mistaken as fully German might feel safer because it creates distance between him and the reputation attached to his Norwegian family name.
But he still prefers MC to call him W because his mom named him that. Maybe W is the part of his name that still feels like his own. Maybe his mom used to say it gently or affectionately, which is why he doesnât completely hate it.
I donât know what his relationship with his mom was like before. Based on what Laly said, it seems neutral now, but maybe they were once close and something caused them to grow apart. Or maybe she is no longer in the picture.
So maybe W is still a part of him, while M belongs to his dad, his brothers and the family legacy. Itâs an overpowering name that feels unbalanced in his life and takes away his own identity. In Norway, he may have lived under the shadow of his dad and brothers instead of being allowed to be himself.
That could also explain why he said it wasnât the first time people had mistaken his identity. Maybe he has a twin, or at least a brother who looks enough like him that people confuse them from behind. It could even be that people mistook him for his dad, but that seems less likely.
It could also explain BBâs discipline, uptight personality, and formal way of speaking. He was only in the army for four years and has been out for two years, but those habits still seem deeply ingrained in him. Maybe thatâs because the military did not create those traits. It only reinforced habits that had already been drilled into him much earlier by his family, especially his dad.
If he grew up in a strict military or religious household, he may have been taught to speak carefully, control his emotions, follow rules and always be prepared. The army may have felt familiar to him because he had already been living under that kind of pressure long before he enlisted.
Also, BB has âThe Sun Always Shines on TVâ in his playlist. Could that song reflect his familyâs public image? Maybe they look respectable, successful and glorious in the news or in public, while everything behind the scenes is rotten.
And could âThe Unforgivenâ be about his family, especially his dad? Maybe BB canât forgive him for what he did, the pressure he put on him, or the life he forced him to live.
And the day that bear hurt him my fell on Sunday (Bloody Sunday)
And BB being O-negative makes this even more painful. If he was badly injured in a bear attack and lost a lot of blood, finding compatible blood quickly could have been difficult because O-negative is relatively rare. He may have come terrifyingly close to dying.
Imagine waking up after something like that, injured, scared and barely alive, only for his dad to look at him with disappointment instead of concern. Maybe his dad focused on what BB did wrong, lectured him, or treated the attack as proof that he was weak rather than recognizing that he was a child who had been seriously hurt.
That would be disgusting, ngl. It could explain why BB carries so much shame around failure and why he seems to believe he has to be useful, disciplined and strong all the time. If the person who was supposed to protect him responded to pain with disappointment, BB may have learned that being hurt was never enough to deserve care.
This might also explain why BB seems to live like he always needs to find a purpose. He may feel most useful when someone relies on him, like SLM. He said he can tolerate it, but when MC told him that he doesnât always have to be that person and can rely on others too, he said that of course he does rely on others. Just not in the way MC meant.
Maybe BB only knows how to rely on people through duty, responsibility or being useful to them. If someone needs him, he has a role. He has something to do. Without that, he may not know who he is or what he is supposed to be doing.
Prime example: How does BB feel about being used as walking Blood Bag in his army days?
The thing is BB DOESN'T think he's being used. In his mind, he's simply helping people who need him. But that doesn't mean he'll blindly follow anyone! That's actually why I wrote the whole Paw Pizza scene, it clearly shows that BB chooses very carefully who he respects. if he believes someone isn't worthy of leading him or doesn't genuinely care about others, he won't give them that part of himself. His loyalty is unconditional once it's earned but earning it is the hard part. and once someone earns that loyalty, he'll often give far more of himself than he ever asks in return. - Laly said, I quote
That could be why he enlisted in the US Army and wanted to continue. The military gave him structure, rules and a clear purpose. But maybe his sergeant eventually saw that BB had no real direction outside of being a soldier. Not because he was weak or incapable, but because he seemed lost and had no anchor in his own life.
Maybe his sergeant thought âThis boy has no idea what he wants to do with his life.â Keeping someone like that in the military could be dangerous, especially if they are only staying because they have nowhere else to go. So maybe he let BB leave because he hoped BB would find a purpose that belonged to him, not one forced on him by his family or the army.
That could also be why his sergeant helped him get a job at Paw Pizza. Maybe BB did not have much experience outside of military training, discipline and survival. A normal job could have been a way for him to slowly build a life outside of the army and figure out who he is when nobody is telling him what his purpose should be.
Another thing that might connect to this is BBâs philosophy about âchoosing the right leader to follow.â
If his dad was a commander, and his leadership caused BB harm, ignored his needs or contradicted everything a good leader should be, then it makes sense that BB would have such a strong opinion about leadership. Maybe he grew up under someone who expected obedience but offered no care, protection or guidance in return.
That could be why BB eventually left and decided he needed to find the right leader for himself. He may not hate structure or following orders. In fact, he seems to need structure. What he rejects is blindly following someone just because they have authority. He knows firsthand that someone can have power, status and a respected name while still being a terrible person to follow.
It could also connect to the way he talked about the hat. Even when it was dirty, he said it only needed to be wiped off and it would still be good to use.
Maybe that is how he sees himself.
In his family, he may have been treated as a failure, but not fully discarded. They may have kept him around as someone useful enough to have nearby, but not important enough to truly value. Like a side character, an outsider or something patched together that can still serve a purpose when needed.
Maybe BB thinks that even if he is damaged, scarred, or âdirtyâ in other peopleâs eyes, he can still be useful. He can still work. He can still follow orders. He can still have a purpose.
That is sad because it suggests he may measure his worth through usefulness rather than believing he deserves care simply because he is a person.
Why I think BB may have been close to his mom before
I think BB may have had a closer relationship with his mom when he was younger because she might have understood the pressure he was under.
If his dad really was controlling, authoritarian and obsessed with the family legacy, then his mom may have been living under that same pressure as his wife. She may have known exactly how strict he could be and how much he would try to impose his beliefs and expectations on BB.
Maybe she saw what was coming but felt powerless to stop it.
That could be why she named him W and had him watch war documentaries from an early age. It may not have been because she wanted to push him toward the military. Maybe she was trying to prepare him for the kind of life his dad was going to force on him. If she could not protect him directly, teaching him about war, discipline and survival might have been the only protection she knew how to give.
Maybe W was also her way of giving him something that belonged to her, something softer and more personal than the identity his dad wanted to force onto him.
If she had little influence in the family, she may have been expected to support the family image rather than challenge her husband openly. In a household built around status, authority and legacy, she may not have had much room to speak up about important decisions or defend her children.
That could explain why BB may still have complicated feelings about her. He might remember her as someone who cared about him, but also as someone who could not stop what happened to him.
I also mentioned earlier that BBâs family could be heavily religious. If thatâs true, then why does BB seem to have no preference when it comes to religion now?
Maybe he doesnât want anything that reminds him of his past life. If religion was tied to his familyâs expectations to uphold their legacy, then distancing himself from it could be another way of distancing himself from them.
That might be why he deflected when MC asked whether it bothered him that he had no burial arrangements. Maybe it does bother him, but he doesnât want to talk about it. Or maybe he genuinely feels detached from the idea of a religious burial because he left that part of his life behind.
I asked a friend from a Catholic family about it, and they said that someone in BBâs position might feel like they donât deserve a proper burial in their religion anymore. Not necessarily because the religion itself says that, but because the person may carry shame, guilt or the belief that they have lost their honor.
Maybe BB feels like he walked away from the life his family wanted for him, so he no longer has a place in that world. Or maybe he believes that he failed his family, his faith or the identity they forced on him. That could be why he seems so indifferent about burial arrangements, even if the subject may hurt more than he lets on.
Obviously, this is only a theory, but the bear story, the scar, his reaction to bears, the weight of his last name and his distance from Norway all feel connected to me.
Oh, and Idk if Laly used the real calendar for the gameâs setting, but I checked the 2007 - 2008 and 2009 calendars, and the game dates seem to be one day earlier than real life.
For example, October 12 2009, falls on a Monday in real life but on a Sunday in the game (RJ work shift). BBâs employee ID says January 14 2008. In real life, that date was a Sunday, but in the game timeline, it would be a Monday, which makes more sense as a work start date.
We know BB worked at Paw Pizza in 2007, but we donât know exactly when he left. My assumption is that he met RB on the same night he got jumped by 10 guys while delivering (HERE is my 1st theory). If he quit the next day, or within a week, then he may have been unemployed for around 2 weeks or more before starting at the garage.
If he started at the garage on January 14 2008, that would place him leaving Paw Pizza sometime in late December 2007.
BB said he got jumped at 1am on a Friday. The last Friday of 2007 in real life was December 28, but if the game calendar is one day behind, then the last Friday in the game would be December 27.
And BBâs lucky number is 27. RBâs suit also has 27 on it.
Maybe Iâm looking way too deeply into this, and I could be completely wrong, so please donât take it too seriously.Â
